00:00In Venezuela, President Nicolás Maduro announced the creation of a special economic fund for
00:11the financing of agriculture.
00:16In Chile, supermarket employees continue on strike to demand higher wages and better working
00:20conditions.
00:23Palestine-Israeli occupation troops launched an in-strike on al-Mawassi humanitarian camp,
00:28leaving 71 people killed and 289 others wounded.
00:38Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Televisa Studios in Havana,
00:42Cuba.
00:43We begin with the news.
00:44President of Venezuela Nicolás Maduro announced the creation of a special economic fund for
00:49the financing of agriculture.
00:52During the national meeting with farmers and small producers selling Nacarihua, a Portuguese
00:57estate, the Venezuelan head of state pointed out that the Ministry of Communes and Social
01:01Movements will be in charge of guaranteeing that the financing reaches all the land workers.
01:06President Maduro also made a recognition to workers of the land for their efforts to defeat
01:10the economic war, the shortage and the attack of imperialism and the surnames.
01:15In this sense, he committed himself to guarantee that the national production goes directly
01:21to the markets without intermediaries or mediators.
01:45Venezuelan opposition leader Carlos Prosperi declared himself independent and announced
01:50his support for the presidential candidacy of Nicolás Maduro for the elections of July 28th.
01:55During his speech, Prosperi had pointed out that President Nicolás Maduro is the only
01:59one who can guarantee the peace of the country in view of the destabilization attempts of
02:04the far-right and the U.S. government.
02:06He also denounced a campaign of hate and death threats against opponents who support the
02:10candidacy of Nicolás Maduro.
02:12Prosperi requested to initiate an investigation against those who participate in acts of parliamentary
02:17corruption, the theft of ZIPCO and other assets of the nation.
02:47We had to continue moving forward, yes or yes, we had to move forward.
02:53The outrages began against many of us political leaders who were leading a different voice
02:57to what we were observing that was not being done well.
03:03We even saw with concern how all those irregularities were observed where people who put their names
03:08to preserve and protect the cards of their political organizations were later riddled
03:13through bots and social networks.
03:15In this context, Prosperi denounced the theft of the nation's assets held abroad.
03:23I also want to denounce, as I have already done before, and I ratify it because of what
03:30has been happening with the resources of Venezuela, which were illegally retained abroad.
03:36I am referring to the dividends of the CITGO company, the alleged humanitarian aid and
03:44the bankruptcy of the Monomeros company.
03:49The so-called humanitarian aid that the government of the United States has given to these pseudo
03:54leaders of the opposition has been derived for the benefit and enrichment of a small group.
04:00In Venezuela, the National Bolivarian Armed Forces met with a United Nations delegation
04:04of international election experts currently in Venezuela to observe the process of next
04:08July 28th presidential elections.
04:10Here is a special announcement by UNOS with details.
04:14The United Nations delegation invited to monitor the electoral process in Venezuela visited
04:19the country's Ministry of Defense today.
04:21The Minister of Defense received and explained to the experts the role of the armed forces
04:26The Minister of Defense received and explained to the experts the role of the armed forces
04:31to provide security to the electors, take care of the electoral material and protect
04:36the electoral centers.
04:37This operation, called Republic Plan, is already underway.
04:43This is an eminently civil act.
04:46It is a civic act.
04:49It is not a military one.
04:52I want to make that very clear at this table.
04:56We do not meddle in the internal processes of the National Electoral Council.
05:01We respect it a lot.
05:03The UN Secretary General has sent a delegation upon invitation of the electoral authorities
05:08in Venezuela.
05:12With a profound sentiment of responsibility of the United Nations and the Secretary General
05:17decided to respond positively to the invitation of the National Electoral Council to deploy
05:22a group of experts, which is a mechanism of accompanying the elections technically.
05:27The delegation has already met with Venezuela's foreign minister and authorities from the
05:31National Electoral Council.
05:33It will only provide a confidential report for the Secretary General at the end of the visit.
05:40These days we have begun the official meetings of coordination with all authorities and we
05:45will continue with contacts with all political parties, all candidates and all active forces
05:50in the country that take part in this process.
05:54Once the election date was known, the National Electoral Council has started to provide invitations
05:59to international watchers and organizations with expertise in election matters so they
06:04could come to Venezuela.
06:06According to the Venezuelan foreign minister, 635 watchers have already confirmed their
06:11arrival in Venezuela to witness the elections.
06:13There are organizations, foundations like the Carter Center, the Center of Latin American
06:18Experts for Elections, the African Union, more than 65 electoral organizations or election
06:23bodies of the world.
06:26Some of them at the level of director will come to Venezuela.
06:29Governments have been invited.
06:31Furthermore, the political parties have also invited attendants and watchers.
06:36In the meantime, all over the country the ten candidates have been invited.
06:41In the meantime, all over the country the ten candidates' campaign for the presidency
06:45and programmatic debate is continuing with different proposals and activities until July 25.
06:52Yunus Soner, Telesur, Caracas, Venezuela.
06:56And the current candidate of the Venezuelan far-right has blood on his hands, so say Salvadoran
07:01citizens who witnessed the dark role played by Edmundo González when he served as the
07:06right-hand man of Leopoldo Castillo, who in the 1980s was the Venezuelan ambassador in
07:11San Salvador.
07:12A correspondent, Roberto GĂłmez, obtained testimonies from people who witnessed this
07:15questionable chapter of the now presidential candidate of the opposition.
07:19Let's see.
07:23At the end of the 70s and beginning of the 80s, in the middle of the civil war, Leopoldo
07:28Castillo was appointed ambassador of Venezuela, a person who from the diplomatic headquarters
07:32would have financed the death squads that assassinated thousands of Salvadorans, among
07:37them priests and forenoons of the Marignol order.
07:44Former guerrilla commander Nidia DĂaz recalls that the conspiracy plan to torture, capture,
07:49disappear and kill opponents was planned from the Venezuelan embassy and directed by Leopoldo Castillo.
07:54He was later named priest killer.
07:57That is how he is known for being an agent of death and persecuting Christians in the
08:02country.
08:03I do not doubt that he may have known or be linked in some way to the murder of San Romero,
08:09because later we learned that he was also involved in the murder of the Marignol nuns
08:14that happened in November 1982, and they also murdered a priest.
08:18Nidia DĂaz recalls that while she was a prisoner of war, two people from the Venezuelan embassy
08:23came to interrogate her.
08:25One of them was Castillo, whose closest collaborator was the now candidate of the Venezuelan ultra-right
08:30Edmundo González, veteran diplomat, who was also a member of the Venezuelan embassy.
08:35He was also a member of the Venezuelan embassy.
08:37He was also a member of the Venezuelan embassy.
08:39He was also a member of the Venezuelan embassy.
08:41He was also a member of the Venezuelan embassy.
08:43Castillo, whose closest collaborator was the now candidate of the Venezuelan ultra-right
08:46Edmundo González, veteran diplomat Rubén Zamora says that, at the time, the United
08:51States carried out interference operations in Latin American countries and that the Venezuelans
08:56were accomplices in several crimes, which shows that Venezuela tolerated and sheltered
09:01self-confessed terrorists.
09:06Just the fact that important people of the Venezuelan Christian democracy helped the
09:10armed forces of El Salvador, an armed force that was absolutely violating human rights,
09:15is already a crime.
09:22Declassified CIA documents revealed that people from the Venezuelan embassy were mentioned
09:27as co-responsible for the intelligence services, authors of covert operations of the death
09:32squads, which carried out a series of massacres during operations in Tauro, financed by the
09:37United States.
09:38According to former Congressional President Sigfrido Reyes, Edmundo González, the candidate
09:42of the Venezuelan ultra-right, was a witness and accomplice to these brutal acts.
09:54Edmundo González has this dark past and is directly responsible and co-author of war
10:00crimes and crimes against humanity committed against innocent and defenseless people who
10:06had stood up against the despotic regime. Edmundo González has blood on his hands and
10:12in El Salvador he is remembered as a deadly man.
10:24For this historian, the Venezuelan ultra-right wing was used by the United States for its
10:29political purposes, an interference that has been maintained for years.
10:36The United States had its interests in preventing the advance of the revolutions in the Central
10:42American countries and Carlos Andrés Pérez wanted international prestige.
10:49That is how hunger and need came together in the Salvadoran conflict and that is how
10:53Venezuela entered.
10:56Since then and even now in El Salvador there is a group of Venezuelans working for the
11:01government of President Bukele linked to the right wing against chavism. So if you look
11:07at them they are a kind of cabinet in El Salvador, people close to the Venezuelan right wing.
11:18Despite the evidence and documents that have been declassified, both Castillo and González
11:22have denied such actions by an interfering government acting in complicity with US destabilization
11:28plans.

12:00Welcome back.
12:01In Chile, supermarket employees continue on strike to demand higher wages and better working
12:06conditions. The National Workers' Federation called the strike a union group of some 14,000
12:12members and is the sector's largest. At least 80 supermarkets remain closed and 53 are partially
12:17open throughout the country. Workers demand a 20% increase in wages with regular cost
12:22of living adjustments, bonuses, better working conditions, restrooms in all stores and more
12:27security.
12:28In Bolivia, President Luis Arce denounced the right-wing and fascism tried to cover
12:41up the attempted coup d'etat on June 26 with false speeches. The Bolivian president
12:46affirmed that only the right-wing and fascism tried to cover up the attempted coup d'etat
12:50calling it a self-coup and using disinformation and fake news in their favor. In this sense,
12:55President Arce affirmed that behind this attempted coup d'etat, there are economic interests
13:00that seek to take possession of the country's mineral resources, such as lithium. On the
13:05other hand, he thanked the support of the international community and affirmed that
13:10the people and the government will go out to defend the people's democracy whenever
13:14it is necessary.
13:15In Ecuador, two of the five people accused for the assassination of presidential candidate
13:26Fernando Villavicencio on August 9, 2003, have been delivered a 34-year and eight-month
13:31sentence. According to a press release issued by the Attorney General's Office, following
13:36an eight-day trial, perpetrator Carlos Edwin and co-perpetrator Laura Dayanara have been
13:41sentenced to 34 years and eight months in prison. The court also ruled on the case of
13:46three other accomplices, which were sentenced to 12 years in prison. Fernando Villavicencio
13:50was murdered by a group of seven Colombian hitmen 11 days prior to the first round of
13:54the extraordinary general elections. The seven hitmen are already dead. That's why only
13:59five people stood trial.
14:01In a related story, Fernando Villavicencio's sister, Alexandra Villavicencio, said that
14:11although justice has been served in the case of those five individuals, the people who
14:15masterminded the assassination of her brother and anyone involved in it should be prosecuted
14:20as well. Meanwhile, Fernando Villavicencio's daughters, Tamia and Amanda, said in a statement
14:25that the ruling in the case of those five defendants is the least Ecuadoran justice
14:29could do for a man like Fernando.
14:38In Puerto Rico, the Independence Party has filed an appeal before the Supreme Court,
14:42arguing the presidential column by Governor Pedro PĂ©rez Luisi is unconstitutional and
14:47fraudulent. Independence Party candidate Juan Dalmau said the proposed referendum is a desperate
14:52attempt by the leaders of the new progressive party. A press conference, Independence Party
14:57members denounced that the referendum is a strategy of the new progressive party to mobilize
15:00voters in November, aimed at rebuilding voters' trust and encourage turnout. The Independence
15:06Party also warned that such a referendum would go against the separation of powers, freedom
15:10of speech, equal protection of the law and the right to vote.
15:27In the United States, authorities of the Arizona State, San Carlos, Appalachian Indian Reservation
15:37have declared a state of emergency due to a raging fire. The fire, which started as
15:42a watch fire, has burned over a dozen houses, leaving 75 people homeless and another 400
15:48have been evacuated. The regional authorities presume the fire, which so far has burned
15:52through five square kilometers of land, was human caused. Appalachian reservation authorities
15:58have requested the assistance of the federal government for help in what they consider
16:02to be the largest disaster in the state for the past 30 years.
16:12Meanwhile in Nepal, on Saturday, rescue teams continued the search for at least 60 people
16:16missing after an avalanche caused by heavy rain swept two buses into a river. Dozens
16:21of police officers are involved in the rescue efforts for the second day in a row using
16:25drones and underwater cameras. Only three passengers from the buses managed to escape
16:29the accident by jumping before the vehicles plunged into the river. The rest of the passengers
16:34remain missing. The accident took place early Friday morning on a road southwest of Kathmandu
16:39when a bus carrying 41 passengers and another carrying another 24 were swept by a large
16:44landslide into a river.

17:46Welcome back. In Palestine, Israeli occupation troops committed
17:55a new massacre in Gaza, attacking a humanitarian area. Dozens of wounded were brought to Nasr
18:00Hospital after the regime launched an airstrike on al-Mawassi humanitarian camp west of Anjunis.
18:06The Palestinian health ministry reported that 71 people were killed and 189 wounded in the
18:11attack. According to journalists on the ground, Israeli warplanes fired five missiles that
18:15struck near tents and a water distillation plant in al-Mawassi. The targeted site had
18:20been designated by Israeli forces as a safe humanitarian zone.
18:36Next Friday, July 19th, the International Court of Justice will rule on the Israeli
18:40settlements in the occupied West Bank. The ICJ will make public its advisory opinion
18:45on the legal consequences of Israel's policies and practices in the occupied Palestinian
18:49territories, including East Jerusalem, following a five-month investigation at the request
18:53of the United Nations General Assembly. Last February, 52 countries presented arguments
18:58to the tribunal to seek an end to the ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip, while the ICJ
19:03waits, issuing arrest warnings for senior Israeli officials.
19:10Palestinian rescue teams recovered the bodies of at least 60 people killed by Israel in
19:16the Gaza neighborhood of Tal al-Hawa after the partial withdrawal of occupation army
19:20troops. Eyewitnesses reported that Israeli soldiers executed civilians, including women,
19:25elderly children and entire families, inside their homes in the said Gaza neighborhood.
19:30So far, 60 bodies have been recovered, but the work continues as there are dozens of
19:34bodies on the rubble. During their two-week offensive, the Zionist troops also destroyed
19:39the patient-friendly hospital, from where more bodies were recovered.
19:43Despite the partial withdrawal from the area, occupation forces are still stationed in nearby
19:47areas with snipers deployed in several surrounding buildings.
19:56118 countries reaffirmed their support to the United Nations Agency for Palestine Refugees
20:01in the midst of a campaign of attacks on this crate in order to take in Israel. This was
20:06announced by the head of the agency, Philippe Lazzarini.
20:10118 member states have signed off this joint commitment, and among them, we have all the
20:18members of the Security Council. And this, I mean, today, it's an important day for the
20:27agency because you know that we are also undergoing fierce attacks, which are politically motivated,
20:37and hence the importance that member states restate their support and their trust to the
20:45agency to whom they are conferring such an important mandate.
20:51On the other hand, Lazzarini referred to the dramatic situation of Gazan children in the
20:56genocide perpetrated by the state of Israel.
20:59We have today in Gaza one in two persons under the age of 18. We have in Gaza more than
21:08600,000 girls and boys living in the rubble, deeply traumatized, and for whom our joint
21:16commitment should be to bring them back as soon as possible in an education environment
21:22if we do not want to sacrifice an entire generation and sow the seeds for more violence in the future.
21:35In other news, in Nigeria, 22 people are dead and another 132 have been injured following
21:39the collapse of a two-story school in the Just North district in Just North City.
21:44Most of the victims were students who were taking exams.
21:47All survivors are getting medical attention at nearby clinics.
21:50154 people were rescued from the scene inside an academy school in Plateau State,
21:55but there are still desperate parents searching for their children amidst the rubble.
22:00Government has ordered all hospitals in the Just North district to give priority to the
22:03collapsed victims, regardless of documentation or means to pay.
22:07Well, I mean, I've seen the storey buildings collapsed, and I think for now there are low
22:15chances of us finding any more survivors, but we are here to see and we are hoping for the best.
