00:00In Venezuela, President Nicolás Maduro meets with independent opposition leaders at Miraflores
00:14Palace.
00:19In China, authorities suspended consultations with the United States on arms control and
00:23non-proliferation.
00:24And in Kenya, at least three people were killed during a new wave of protests demanding the
00:33resignation of President William Trudeau.
00:42Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra Garcia.
00:45From Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba, we begin with the news.
00:59The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, held a meeting with leaders of the independent
01:03opposition seeking to ratify a consensual path for the preservation of peace in view
01:08of the upcoming presidential elections.
01:10During the reception at the Miraflores Palace, the head of state highlighted the approach
01:15with this opposition sector, which ratified its willingness to preserve peace to work
01:20for the development of the country despite of its adverse stances.
01:24In the meeting, Nicolás Maduro highlighted his pronouncements in favour of peace, coexistence
01:29and the search for a consensual path.
01:31The President of Parliament, Jorge Rodríguez, also underlined the hope that this type of
01:36meetings will be repeated and sent the message that beyond the differences, they can converge
01:41in common proposals for the defense of peace.
01:48The Vice President of PSUF, Ediosdado Cabello, assured that the electoral victory will be
01:53achieved with work and mobilization.
01:56The statement was made by Cabello on Tuesday during a massive rally held in Lara State
02:01within the framework of the electoral campaign.
02:03There, the revolution's followers gathered in support of the president candidate of the
02:08Great Patriotic Ball, Nicolás Maduro.
02:10Likewise, leaders of different social movements joined the demonstrations and ratified their
02:15joint work towards achieving the electoral triumph on July 28.
02:22The whole international community puts the spotlight on our country.
02:30Brothers and sisters, let's prepare for victory, let's defend our victory, let's get ready
02:34to take care of our nation's peace, let's not fall for their provocations, let's not
02:39fall, let's not give them any reasons so when they make mistakes we will act.
02:43And we know how to act because we have learned it, we cannot allow them, we cannot allow
02:47our children to be manipulated, we cannot allow them to generate violence at the expense
02:51of the people's blood, as the opposition doesn't deserve a single drop of blood of the people,
02:56not a single one anymore.
02:58July 28, it's an appointment with history, an appointment that will mark the before and
03:03after of what is to come because after July 28 I am sure that the irreversibility of the
03:07revolutionary people and this Chavista revolution begins.
03:14Venezuelan presidential candidate José Brito highlighted the country's potential and called
03:18for a lasting change.
03:19The opposition candidate affirmed that if elected, he will advance in the construction
03:23of a positive change for the country.
03:25During the course of his electoral campaign, Brito has stressed his intention to give the
03:30country's depolarization an opportunity.
03:33Among his government proposals, he also highlighted the enactment of a law for universal non-contributory
03:39pensions.
03:40The presidential candidate for the Centre Party, Enrique Marquez, stated to the National
03:48Electoral Council his support for the presence of at least 749 international observers that
03:55will accompany the electoral process, warrantying greater transparency and security.
04:00The candidate acknowledged the electoral schedule announced by the electoral authorities
04:05and expressed his support.
04:13On Tuesday, 261 Venezuelan citizens arrived from Mexico City to Venezuela as part of the
04:19Great Mission Return to Homeland.
04:21They were received by Foreign Minister Iván Gil at the airport.
04:25Our correspondent Juno Zuner brings us more details.
04:29The plane of Conviasa, Venezuela's flag carrier, landed at 10.30 a.m. at Simón Bolívar International
04:35Airport.
04:36Its passengers, 261 Venezuelan citizens.
04:40Michelle Martínez returned after eight years abroad, where her son was born.
04:48I made the decision to return to Venezuela mainly for personal reasons.
04:54I wanted to see my father.
04:57For eight years, I haven't seen him, my grandmother, my family.
05:02I wanted them to meet my son, so I decided that there is nothing that money can buy as
05:06nice as family happiness.
05:10So much excitement, because I'm coming back after six years.
05:14Many of them had left to find a better economic future, they faced a different reality.
05:22I left because, really, not because of the bad situation, because I had a job here, I
05:26had a house.
05:28Not because I was starving, not because of anything, I can't lie.
05:32I went believing what other people said.
05:34When you arrive, you see that it is not like that, whatever they told you, you know.
05:39They are the same people who treat you badly, they even throw you out on the street.
05:43The citizens were received at the airport by the Venezuelan Foreign Minister Iván Gil,
05:48who gave a short speech of welcome.
05:54Truly, this is a moment of deep joy.
05:56I repeat, I am sure there are many more compatriots outside that we are going to seek to bring
06:01back, that we are going to take care of them wherever they are.
06:04The flight from Mexico was organized by the Bolivarian government within the Gran Misión
06:08Vuelta a la Patria.
06:10Gil declared that 500,000 citizens had returned since its beginning and added.
06:16Venezuela opens again its arms to its sons and daughters.
06:26This is not only a matter of social attention, but we, Venezuela as a whole, we need each
06:32other, we all need each other.
06:34Here we need intellect, we need love, we are building a new country, after having suffered
06:39so much in these last years.
06:42We are building a new country, we are being reborn, we are recovering economically.
06:50The Gran Misión not only means the transfer of citizens to Venezuela, but also their reintegration
06:56into the legal system, society and the economy.
06:59But first, the government offered them public transportation to reach their homes and see
07:03their families and loved ones.

07:27Welcome back.
07:28In Argentina, the government of President Javier Milley has officially created the May
07:32Council to implement the Guidelines set out in the May Pact.
07:37The initiative is part of an agreement signed by 17 governors on July 9th during the Independence
07:43Day celebrations in the province of Tucumán.
07:45In this sense, presidential spokesman Manuel Adorni was in charge of confirming the formation
07:50of the council within the next 30 days, detailing that the instance will be integrated by a
07:56president, a consular, proposed by the executive, another proposed by the provinces, signatories
08:02of the pact and the city of Buenos Aires, and another proposed by the chambers of parliament
08:07and trade union organizations and entrepreneurs.
08:15The May Council will be responsible for drafting laws to implement the proposals promised by
08:20Milley in the May Pact, which includes principles to seek a new economic order such as the inviolability
08:27of private property, the reduction of public spending due to around 25% of GDP, a modern
08:34labor reform that promotes formal work, the opening up to international trade so that
08:39Argentina can become a protagonist in the global market, and a useful and modern basic
08:44primary and secondary education, with full literacy and no school dropouts.
08:55The International Monetary Fund forecasts for Argentina have worsened.
08:59It now expects economic activity to fall by 3.5% in 2024.
09:04The figure is much more pessimistic than the 2.8% drop initially forecast.
09:10Among the causes of this new debacle are the fall in consumption, both by the state and
09:15by private consumers, and a decrease in the purchasing power of salaried workers.
09:21The lack of demand caused private investment to also suffer a sharp drop.
09:25Argentina is currently the only country that will have a fall in its activity in 2024,
09:30while countries such as Brazil and Mexico will increase between 2.1% and 2.2%.
09:42In El Salvador, a report presented by several local and international human rights organizations
09:47highlighted that the state of emergency declared by President Nayib Bukele has seriously violated
09:53the human rights of children.
09:54In this sense, the report claims that 3,000 children and teenagers have been detained
09:59during the war against the gangs.
10:01In this way, it also emphasizes that minors have been doubly victimized on the one hand
10:07by the gangs who have abused them, and on the other by the security forces who have
10:12mistreated them.
10:13In this regard, the report states that 1,000 children and teenagers have been sentenced
10:18to prison terms of between 2 and 12 years.
10:21It should be noted that in many cases, the minors were forced to make false confessions.
10:31Also in El Salvador, on Tuesday evening, President Nayib Bukele presented the National Economic
10:36Plan to be developed in six phases.
10:39On the opening of the Data Trust Technology Center located in the Ciudad Arce district
10:44in Libertad, the President informed that two phases of the plan are already underway.
10:50Bukele placed food in the first phase, while addressed technological development in the
10:55second one.
10:56The head of state said that in the Food Sustainability Plan, tariffs have been abrogated on the basic
11:03food basket.
11:04It is suspected that this decision will help to obtain better food at better prices.
11:09He further announced that many production and marketing chains will be privatized.
11:14We are going to build several wholesale markets that will be operated by private companies,
11:27so we are already finishing the first wholesale market, which is being built where the former
11:30Citroën's facilities used to be, and now this is one of the modules of many.
11:35This wholesale market is being built, and what we want to do is to build several wholesale
11:39markets across the country that will be privately managed, both the global administration and
11:43the internal traders of each of the wholesale markets, and once all these wholesale markets
11:47are built and open, the markets will be closed.
11:51On Tuesday, another 200 Kenyan police officers arrived in Haiti under a United Nations-backed
11:57mission to try to stop the violence of criminal groups in the Caribbean country.
12:01In this way, they were received by Haitian and Kenyan senior police commanders, who also
12:06assured that with this new contingent there are already 400 Kenyans in Port-au-Prince.
12:12It must be emphasized that the Kenyan contingent expects to accumulate around 1,000 police
12:17officers in Haiti.
12:19In this regard, local authorities reported that to date they have carried out strategic
12:24mapping of potential areas of co-operational interest and have conducted several joint
12:29patrols within Port-au-Prince.
12:35We count on your support.
12:38The Haitian National Police are already working with the first Kenyan contingent and we will
12:43continue to realize the fruit of our joint efforts that are geared towards enabling Haiti
12:49to regain its stability and become an economic powerhouse.
12:54The Chinese government suspended consultations with the United States on arms control and
13:00non-proliferation.
13:01Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Yan said the decision comes as Washington continues
13:05to supply arms to Taiwan, ignoring Beijing's firm objection to this.
13:10The official footer accused the U.S. of taking a series of actions that seriously damaged
13:15China's core interests and undermined the political trust between the two nations.
13:20China expressed its willingness to maintain communication with the United States on international
13:25arms control issues as long as it is based on mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and
13:30mutually beneficial cooperation.
13:36Now we go to Beijing with CGTN reporter Wu Xiongyu, who will tell us about the third
13:42plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, which opened
13:47in the country's capital on July 15th.
13:55On July 15th, the third plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist
14:00Party of China opened in Beijing, calling for deepening reform and opening up and promoting
14:06Chinese-style modernization.
14:08China's gross domestic product in the first half of this year is estimated to have grown
14:14by 5% year on year at constant prices, with output showing sustained growth and demand
14:21continuing to recover.
14:23Overall, the Chinese economy remains on an upward trend.
14:27In this sense, official statistics on the Chinese economy present several opportunities
14:33for the world.
14:34First, China continues to develop new quality productive forces and drive new industrialization.
14:42The stability and continuity of government policies have opened up ample space for business
14:48development.
14:49Second, the high-quality development of China's economy also provides new opportunities for
14:55internationals.
14:56During the first half of this year, exports of automobiles, integrated circuits, and other
15:02products have experienced considerable growth, optimizing the country's foreign trade structure.
15:09In short, China's high-quality economic development not only benefits it domestically, but also
15:15creates a favorable environment for global development, offering new opportunities for
15:21cooperation and growth.

18:33the meeting.

20:07We have to harvest 25 kilos of eggs per day here.
20:11I think they are fascinating animals.
20:13And I think it's amazing that they can live on any organic matter.
20:18But it's really the potential of what they can contribute with to our society, to the
20:27feed and food value chain.
20:31Being able to feed on these very difficult substrates and recirculating nutrients from
20:41these back into our food value chain.
20:43That's the potential that I find very fascinating.
