01:01Early one morning, the tugs were sound asleep at the Great Ocean Tug and Salvage Company dock, when the town clock began to toll.
01:10Time to wake up tugboats, it was chiming.
01:12We slept too long, shouted Theodore.
01:15We're late for the morning work meeting, exclaimed Emily.
01:18Late? rumbled Boduck. How could this happen?
01:20Quickly, the tugs gathered round the dispatcher's dock.
01:23Hank was so sleepy and startled, he bumped right into George.
01:27Oops!
01:28Hey! What's going on? said George.
01:30We're late for work, said Theodore.
01:32I'm never late for work, groaned George.
01:34Oh, this is terrible!
01:40Big Harbor Fools! shouted the dispatcher.
01:42He was wearing silly pop-out glasses.
01:45You mean? said Boduck.
01:47We didn't sleep too long?
01:49I told the town clock to wake you up early, said the dispatcher, laughing merrily.
01:53It's Big Harbor Fools Day! shouted Theodore excitedly.
01:56We almost forgot! smiled Emily.
01:58It's our favorite day of the year! hooted Hank.
02:01It's the dumbest day of the year! grumbled George as he popped up some smoke from his smokestack,
02:06the way he did when he was upset.
02:08Then, he turned back to his dock and didn't say another word.
02:12What's the matter with George? whispered Hank.
02:15I don't know, answered Theodore. I really don't know.
02:22A little later, the tugs set off to their jobs for the day.
02:26Theodore, Hank and George went to bring Shelburne, the sea barge, into the harbor.
02:31Shelburne had a big load of tanks, all filled with bubble bath.
02:39Theodore let out a small, sharp whistle, then hurried around behind Shelburne.
02:44Shelburne tried to see who was whistling at him, but he couldn't see anyone.
02:48Then, Hank whistled from the other side and hurried behind Shelburne.
02:51Once again, Shelburne tried to see who was whistling.
02:55That's funny, he said.
02:58There's no one there.
03:01Well, Hank started laughing, and Theodore laughed too.
03:05Big harbor fools! they both shouted, and tooted their horn.
03:08Theodore and Hank went to bring Shelburne, the sea barge, into the harbor.
03:13Theodore let out a small, sharp whistle, then hurried around behind Shelburne.
03:17They both shouted, and tooted their horn.
03:19And everyone had a good laugh.
03:22Let's get to work, frowned George.
03:24We're wasting time.
03:26Sorry, George, said Theodore.
03:28It was just a joke.
03:30For Big Harbor Fools Day, added Hank.
03:32Can we get to work now, repeated George.
03:35He scowled and buttoned onto Shelburne, blowing up some more smoke.
03:40Theodore, did we do something wrong, said Hank.
03:44George just doesn't like today, said Theodore.
03:46But I don't know why.
03:52In another part of the harbor, Fodok was inspecting docks, to see if they were safe.
03:56He started with Donald Dock.
03:58Everything ship-shape, Donald, said Fodok.
04:00I mean, dock-shape.
04:02Uh-huh, said Donald.
04:04You see, uh-huh, is all Donald ever says.
04:08Emily snuck up on Fodok.
04:13Then, hurried away, with a smile as white as a whale.
04:18Fodok didn't see the big sign Emily had put on his back.
04:21It said, honk at me, loud.
04:24Fodok hurried off to inspect the next dock.
04:28Phillip and Billmore, the ferry trains, honked loudly at him.
04:34Rebecca, the research vessel, blew her horn.
04:37What's going on, wondered Fodok.
04:40Why is everybody honking at me?
04:42And even Northumberland honked.
04:45Emily could hardly wait to see what would happen next.
04:51Fodok floated along inspecting docks.
04:54And everywhere he went, everyone honked.
04:59And tooted.
05:04And dinged at him.
05:08I wonder, Fodok said to himself, are my bumpers on backwards?
05:14George, Theodore and Hank were just bringing Shelburne to his dock.
05:17Prepare to turn, called George.
05:19Prepare to turn, called Theodore.
05:21Preparing to... called Hank.
05:25Tooting his whistle at Fodok and laughing.
05:27Toot, said George.
05:29Who said toot? I said turn.
05:31Hank, Hank!
05:33But Fodok has a funny sign on him, grinned Hank.
05:37Big harbour, fools! Emily shouted at Fodok.
05:41Fodok began to spin around trying to see the sign on his back,
05:44which made everyone honk and toot and ding even louder.
05:49Will everyone please be quiet?
05:51Roared George in his biggest voice.
05:53I am trying to work.
05:56Well, the big harbour went as silent as a seashell.
06:00Everyone went back to their jobs.
06:04I have to find out why George doesn't like jokes, Theodore said to himself.
06:10After Shelburne had been docked, George set off for his next job,
06:13moving a small cargo ship.
06:15Theodore slowly floated up alongside George and cleared his throat.
06:20I guess you really don't like big harbour fools day, do you George?
06:24George just puffed up some smoke.
06:27We have some really good jokes this year, Theodore went on.
06:31I'm the biggest tug, right? Said George at last.
06:35Right, replied Theodore.
06:37And I'm the strongest too, right? Added George.
06:41Right, agreed Theodore.
06:44So I have a very important, serious job.
06:48I don't want to be a big harbour fool. It's silly.
06:53Well, it's fun to be silly, said Theodore, and then he added.
06:56You'd still be George even if you were a little bit of a harbour fool too.
07:04Well, George seemed to think about what Theodore was saying,
07:07but then he frowned and said,
07:09Of course I would. Now it's just silly.
07:18All that day, the other tugs played big harbour fools jokes on each other
07:21and laughed and enjoyed themselves.
07:24They do look like they're having fun, George thought as he watched the tugs.
07:29For a moment he wished that he was laughing along with everyone too,
07:32but then he said, Ah, they're just being silly.
07:36George finished docking the cargo ship and headed home.
07:40I'll sleep until this whole dumb day is over, he rumbled.
07:46Back at his dock, George covered himself with a blanket of his own smoke
07:50and went to sleep.
07:54George isn't having any fun today, said Theodore.
07:57I wish I knew what to do.
07:59I think the only thing that would make George happy
08:01is if big harbour fools day was over, said Hank.
08:04A slow smile spread over Theodore's face.
08:07Hank, he said, you just gave me a great idea.
08:12I did, said Hank. I mean, I did.
08:15Oh, Theodore, what is my great idea?
08:18I know how to make George smile, said Theodore. Here's what we'll do.
08:22The other tugs turned to Theodore and he began to explain his plan.
08:28After Theodore had explained his plan to the other tugs,
08:31he hurried over to the dispatcher's dock.
08:34Excuse me, Mr. Dispatcher, he whispered.
08:38I've been noticing that George has been very serious all Big Harbour Fools Day.
08:43Yes, Theodore, replied the dispatcher.
08:46I've noticed that too.
08:49Well, I've an idea, said Theodore, and then he moved closer to the dispatcher.
08:57Meanwhile, Hank and Emily were over with Shelburne the sea barge.
09:00Shelburne was just finishing unloading his big tanks of bubble bath.
09:04The tugs whispered their plan to Shelburne.
09:07Sure, said Shelburne slowly.
09:10Whatever you say.
09:14As quiet as can be, Hank and Emily moved Shelburne over to where George was sleeping.
09:22Shelburne lifted a big bubble bath tank with his crane
09:26and slowly began to empty it right down George's smokestack.
09:32This will be the best Big Harbour Fools joke ever, giggled Emily.
09:37The sun was almost beginning to go down when George woke up.
09:41He looked this way, and that way, and then the other way too.
09:45But he didn't see any big bunny tails, or giant spiders, or hear anyone honking or laughing.
09:51Maybe, thought George, Big Harbour Fools Day is finally over.
09:57Right away, George began to feel better, slowly.
10:01Very slowly, he turned toward the other tugs.
10:04Well, when George saw the other tugs, he felt even better.
10:07It looked like everyone else was already asleep.
10:10No more jokes, he thought.
10:12Phew, great.
10:14Hello there, George, said the dispatcher, turning to him.
10:17How was your day?
10:19Very silly, snorted George.
10:21And I bet tomorrow will be even sillier.
10:24Tomorrow is Big Harbour Fools Day.
10:27And I bet tomorrow will be even sillier.
10:30Tomorrow, said George.
10:32Yes, the dispatcher went on.
10:34Everyone had such a good time today, that I decided that tomorrow, we'll have another Big Harbour Fools Day.
10:41Another Big Harbour Fools Day, sputtered George.
10:43Oh no, no!
10:45George started to blow up some more smoke.
10:47And that's when the most surprising thing happened.
10:50Instead of blowing up smoke, George began to blow bubbles.
10:57What's going on?
10:59Gulped George.
11:00He couldn't believe what he was seeing.
11:02The other tugs turned to George.
11:04They were all wearing silly faces.
11:07Big Harbour Fools! they shouted.
11:10And then George noticed the empty tank of bubble bath beside the dispatcher.
11:14I'm blowing soap bubbles, said George.
11:20Does this mean tomorrow isn't Big Harbour Fools Day again?
11:26George was so happy about it not being Big Harbour Fools Day again, that he just had to grin.
11:32You sure look funny with all those bubbles coming out of your smokestack, said Theodore.
11:36I guess I'm the biggest Big Harbour fool of them all, said George.
11:40And you know, he had to admit that being a little bit silly felt a little bit good.
11:46Especially being silly with all your friends.
11:51I guess it's pretty hard to be too serious or important with big bubbles coming out of your smokestack.
11:56Well, I hope that's the end of the Big Harbour Fools Day jokes for this year.
12:03Thanks for visiting us here in the Big Harbour. We'll see you all again next time.
12:06Ah, here's my hat.
12:12Oh no.
12:14This must be my friend.
12:17Oh no.
12:19This must be my friend Rodney.
