00:00So come on along with me on the Dinosaur Train! All aboard!
00:05This program was made possible by contributions to your PBS station from viewers like you. Thank you!
00:11Dinosaur Train!
00:14Once upon a time, there was a mom. Her name was Mrs. Pteranodon.
00:18Sitting on her nest, she heard a scratching and said,
00:20Oh boy, my eggs are hatching!
00:22One by one, her kids clop free.
00:24Baby Pteranodons, one, two, three!
00:26I'll name you Tiny, Shiny, and Don!
00:28But Tiny said, Wait, there's one more mom!
00:30The last little baby was a different size.
00:32With teeth and a tail and big green eyes.
00:34It didn't look anything like the rest.
00:36What am I doing in a Pteranodon nest?
00:38But dear old Mrs. Pteranodon said,
00:40Oh, this is your family and I'm your mom!
00:42You may be different, but we're all creatures!
00:44All dinosaurs have different features!
00:46Come on, buddy, we'll take a vacation!
00:48I'll get us a ticket at Pteranodon Station.
00:50We'll travel the world in sunshine and rain
00:52and meet all the species on Earth!
00:54Dinosaur Train!
00:56Dinosaur Train!
00:58We're gonna ride
01:00the Dinosaur Train!
01:10Okay, round and round they go.
01:12Keep your eye on the shell.
01:16Now, which one has the bug under it?
01:18That one!
01:20Hmm.
01:22Lucky guess!
01:24Round and round and round we go.
01:26Where the bug is, nobody knows.
01:28Which one now?
01:30That one!
01:32Wow, buddy, you're really good at this game.
01:34I guess I have a good memory.
01:36Can I please have a turn, buddy?
01:38Sure, Dawn. Go ahead.
01:40Okay, Dawn.
01:42Round and round and round we go.
01:44There. Now which one has the bug?
01:46Hmm. None of them.
01:48What?
01:50Where is the bug then?
01:52I ate it.
01:54I'm tired of memory games.
01:56I think I'll go fishing with Dad.
01:58Fishing? Hey, I'm coming too!
02:02Well, it's just us left, buddy.
02:04Let's go hang out with Mom.
02:06A is for Hippotasaurus.
02:08B is for Brachiosaurus.
02:10C is for Colithosaurus.
02:12Buddy, what are you doing?
02:14Oh, I'm just seeing my dinosaur ABCs.
02:16Why?
02:18I really want to improve my memory.
02:20I want to work on the dinosaur train as a conductor.
02:22And he knows the name of every single dinosaur.
02:24I know. What a great job.
02:26He gets to ride the train all the time.
02:28That's because he's a Troodon.
02:30They're the smartest dinosaur.
02:32Yeah, he's always saying that.
02:34Well, Troodons are smart
02:36because they can remember the most stuff.
02:38Oh, that's why you're memorizing
02:40your dinosaur ABCs.
02:42Maybe I should start memorizing too.
02:44Mom, how do you think the Troodons
02:46can remember so much stuff so well?
02:48Well, why don't we ask them?
02:50You mean go for a ride on the dinosaur train?
02:52Sure.
02:54You can get all your answers from the conductor.
02:56Yay! The dinosaur train!
02:58Woohoo!
03:00I know, kids.
03:02Let's get tickets to Troodontown.
03:04We've never been there before.
03:06Oh, excellent choice.
03:08That's where the dinosaur train roundhouse is.
03:10The roundhouse?
03:12The place where you turn the dinosaur train around?
03:14Right, buddy.
03:16That's where you make the trip home.
03:18That's why we call it the roundhouse.
03:20Plus, it's round.
03:26Yay!
03:28Here comes the dinosaur train!
03:36All aboard!
03:38Tickets! Tickets, please.
03:40Good morning, Mr. Conductor.
03:42Hello, Buddy and Tiny and Mrs. P.
03:44Where are you off to today?
03:46Troodontown!
03:48My favorite stop. Good for you.
03:50Finding out more about Troodons, are you?
03:52Yep. We want to find out
03:54how you can remember so many things.
03:56Good question.
03:58We Troodons have large brains,
04:00and that means we can remember
04:02a lot of things.
04:04Like what?
04:06We Troodons have large brains,
04:08and that means we have excellent memories.
04:10And a good memory is especially important
04:12for my job as a conductor.
04:14Why, I have to remember how to fix
04:16the dinosaur train if it breaks down.
04:18I have to remember the train schedule
04:20and all the stops.
04:22And that means I have to remember
04:24all the species, every kind of dinosaur.
04:26When I was a little Troodon...
04:28How did that get in there?
04:30Anyway, when I was little,
04:32I wanted to grow up to be a conductor.
04:34We want to grow up to be conductors, too!
04:36Well, my mom made me say
04:38the dinosaur species over and over
04:40until I memorized them.
04:42That's how you do it.
04:44You practice again and again.
04:46I used to love to recite my dinosaur ABCs.
04:48So do I.
04:50A is for Apatosaurus.
04:52And B is for Brachiosaurus.
04:54C is for...
04:56Carithosaurus.
04:58Carithosaurus, right.
05:00Gee, memorizing all the dinosaur species
05:02sounds hard.
05:04Will you help me work on them, buddy?
05:06Sure I will!
05:08You know, I bet you two could learn
05:10your dinosaur species more easily
05:12if you learned the song.
05:14Whoa! There's a song?
05:16Sing it! Sing it! Please!
05:18Oh, gosh, Golly, I'm not prepared.
05:20I don't know if the passengers
05:22want to hear me sing.
05:24Oh, come on, sing it!
05:26Really?
05:28Please!
05:32C'est parti!
06:02C'est parti!
06:32C'est parti!
07:02It's time for a time tunnel!
07:04Time tunnel approaching!
07:12Next stop, Troodontown!
07:14Troodontown!
07:24Everybody off the train!
07:26Wow!
07:28Even Lord the Giganotosaurus is getting off.
07:30Why?
07:32So he can turn the train around.
07:34Oh, you mean in the roundhouse?
07:36Yep! Want to come and watch?
07:38Can we, Mom? Please?
07:40You bet! I wouldn't miss it!
07:42Yay! Thanks, Mom!
07:44Move to the back!
07:48Oh, boy!
07:50Careful now!
07:52Pretty impressive, huh?
07:54I love it!
07:56I agree!
07:58See? Those spaces hold the extra cars
08:00that we can add to the dinosaur train.
08:02Why?
08:04Well, you never know what we'll need to carry on the train.
08:06Like that one is our lumber car.
08:08It holds branches and green stuff
08:10for our really big herbivore customers.
08:12Like Apatosaurus?
08:14Yep! And that's our aqua tank car.
08:16We fill it with water to carry
08:18sea-dwelling reptiles like...
08:20Like Elasmosaurus!
08:22Right! Thanks, Mom!
08:24Mom?
08:26I thought you could remember every dinosaur species!
08:28Oh, gee, Mom!
08:30I only forgot for a second!
08:32I can remember! Go ahead! Try me!
08:36A! Apatosaurus!
08:38B! Brachiosaurus!
08:40Okay, I'll mix it up! P! Parasaurolophus!
08:42W! Winanosaurus!
08:44Q! Quantosaurus! X! Xenotarsosaurus!
08:46All right! Good job, Sonny!
08:48Hello! I'm the conductor's mother!
08:50This is Mrs. Pteranodon
08:52and her kids, Tiny and Buddy.
08:54Hi! Nice to meet you!
08:56Oh, yes! He's told me about you kids!
08:58You want to grow up to be conductors someday,
09:00don't you?
09:02Yeah!
09:04There's the whistle! It's time to ride the train back, kids!
09:06Mr. Conductor,
09:08are you going to stay here with your mom?
09:10No, I've invited her on the train
09:12to ride back to Pteranodon Terrace.
09:14We're going to have dinner together in the dining car.
09:16Why don't you all join us?
09:18Oh, that sounds lovely!
09:20Doesn't it, kids?
09:22Let's have dinner with the conductor!
09:24Yeah! Come on!
09:26Okay!
09:28Round and round they go!
09:30Keep your eye on the show!
09:32Now which one has the P under it?
09:36Whoa!
09:38That was a miss!
09:40That's ten times in a row!
09:42Just using my super Troodon memory!
09:44May I take your order?
09:46Oh, so many choices!
09:48Let's see. Tiny and I will have the fish.
09:50Hurray! I love fish!
09:52And Buddy will have the meat.
09:54How'd you like your meat, sir?
09:56Raw and lots of it!
09:58Very good, sir. Thank you.
10:00Uh, ma'am, we'll have the raw meat.
10:02A little side of carrion.
10:04The vegetable fritters, some bark bits and branches,
10:06and a big plate of leaves.
10:08And afterwards, the fruit plate, some insects,
10:10and some hot nuts!
10:12We're omnivores.
10:14You eat meat and vegetables?
10:16Yep, that's what omnivore means.
10:18Nope. We got the whole thing memorized.
10:20But how did you know everything on the menu?
10:22Well, I used to be a conductor, too!
10:24Wow! Really?
10:26Oh, and little Sonny here used to ride the dinosaur train
10:28with me when he was your size.
10:30And just like you,
10:32he worked on his memory,
10:34learning the names of the dinosaur species.
10:36And now we have a song we can sing
10:38when we want to practice.
10:40I'm gonna do it, Buddy!
10:42I'm gonna memorize all the dinosaur names!
10:44I'm so proud of you kids!
10:46Well, you should be!
10:48Come on, Tiny!
10:50A! Apatosaurus!
10:52B! Brachiosaurus!
10:54C! Perithosaurus!
10:56D! Deinonychus!
10:58E! Innosaurus!
11:00F! Thalassosaurus!
11:02G! Gallimimus!
11:04H! Patrasaurus!
11:06I! Iguanodon!
11:08J! Jaxasaurus!
11:10K! Kentrosaurus!
11:12Hi there! I'm Dr. Scott, the paleontologist.
11:14And this is the feathered dinosaur
11:16known as Troodon.
11:18Troodon.
11:20Troodon.
11:22Did you know that scientists think
11:24that Troodons were some of the smartest dinosaurs?
11:26Point of fact!
11:28Troodons did not drive trains.
11:30Thank you.
11:34Why do you think Troodons were so smart?
11:36Well, because they had some of the largest brains
11:38of any dinosaur.
11:40Being smart, Troodons could probably
11:42stay away from predators that wanted to eat them.
11:44And what do you think Troodons like to eat?
11:46They like plants.
11:48They like meat.
11:50You're both right. Paleontologists think that Troodon
11:52may have eaten plants and meat.
11:54An animal that eats both meat and plants
11:56is called an omnivore.
11:58Omnivore.
12:00Can you think of any omnivores that are alive today?
12:02Bear.
12:04Pig.
12:06Great answers. Bears, pigs, crows,
12:08we humans are omnivores.
12:10Me too.
12:12Yes, we humans, at least most of us,
12:14are omnivores too.
12:16We eat meat, like fish and chicken and beef,
12:18and plants, like rice, fruits,
12:20and vegetables.
12:22So we have a few things in common
12:24with those little Troodons.
12:26We're both smart, and we're both omnivores.
12:28Keep watching for more dinosaur discoveries.
12:38T-Rex!
12:40I'm a Tyrannosaurus
12:42I'm the biggest carnivore
12:44In the Cretaceous forest
12:46Gonna rob and stomp around
12:48The biggest dinosaur in town
12:50A-roarin' round the forest
12:52Tyrannosaurus Rex!
12:54Roar!
13:08See you on the dinosaur train!
13:10All aboard!
13:16One
13:18Two
13:20Three
13:22Four
13:24Five
13:26Ready or not, here I come!
13:28Buddy will never find us here.
13:30Found ya!
13:32You found me again?
13:34How? I thought the bush would hide me.
13:36It was easy to see you.
13:38You're a way different color from the bush.
13:40Wow Buddy, you have great eyesight!
13:42Thanks! Ready to hide again?
13:44Nah, you'll just find me again
13:46in a second like you always do.
13:48Hmm...
13:50How about pretend fishing?
13:52I'm no good at pretend fishing.
13:54How about I smell with my big nose?
13:56Hmm... No thanks.
13:58I guess we just can't figure out
14:00something we both want to do today.
14:02I know! We could all fly over to the big pond!
14:04Uh Dawn, I can't fly.
14:06Only you and Tiny and Shiny can do that.
14:08Oh...
14:10Well, you can learn to fly Buddy!
14:12I'm positive you can!
14:14Yeah! And I'll teach you!
14:20Ow!
14:30Ow!
14:34Well, I knew it. I can't fly.
14:36Come on! You're so close Buddy!
14:38Dawn, I really don't think I'll ever be able to fly.
14:40Buddy's right.
14:42Who ever thought he could fly?
14:44What a wacky idea!
14:46So now what can we play together?
14:48Hide and seek?
14:50No.
14:52Where's my beak?
14:54Nah.
14:56Shiny says...
14:58No.
15:00Kids, guess what?
15:02I have a date to visit with a friend of mine.
15:04She's a patinosaurus.
15:06A what-a-saurus?
15:08Mom said patinosaurus.
15:10Actually, we pteranodons are related to the patinosaurus.
15:12Even though they live way back in the Triassic time period.
15:16It's like we're distant cousins.
15:18Ooh, the Triassic time period?
15:20That sounds interesting.
15:22Can we go with you, Mom?
15:24Because Buddy doesn't want to play what I want to play.
15:26And Tiny doesn't want to play what I want to play.
15:28But we both want to play!
15:30Can we come with you?
15:32Sure.
15:34Now, my patinosaurus friend has a son your age.
15:36But he's small and a little shy because of that.
15:38So you'd have to be nice to him.
15:40We will.
15:42Well, Don and I have a plan with Dad.
15:44We're going diving.
15:46Bye!
15:50Well, what are we waiting for?
15:52Let's go ride the dinosaur train!
15:54Let's go ride the dinosaur train!
15:56Let's go ride the dinosaur train!
15:58Let's go ride the dinosaur train!
16:04Tickets! Tickets, please!
16:06Well, hello, Mrs. Pteranodon and Buddy and Tiny.
16:08Hello, Mr. Conductor.
16:10We're going to the Triassic time period to meet...
16:12A patinosaurus family?
16:14Whoa! How'd you know?
16:16Well, Troodons are the smartest dinosaur, you know.
16:18And it also says so on your tickets.
16:24There he is! The patinosaurus!
16:26Hmm. He is a small guy.
16:28But look, he has wings.
16:30And sort of a beak like me.
16:32I wonder if his favorite food is fish.
16:34Or maybe it's meat.
16:36Well, you two can ask the patinosaurus all the questions you want very soon.
16:38Because...
16:40Time tunnel!
16:42Time tunnel approaching, folks!
16:44Time tunnel!
16:46Time tunnel!
16:52Next stop, patinosaurus place.
16:54In the Triassic time period.
16:56What a means you, Pteranodon family!
17:00So long!
17:02Have fun with the patinosaurus!
17:04Bye!
17:06Now, remember, kids.
17:08I want you to be extra nice to little P.
17:10We will, Mom.
17:14Salut Peggy ! Bonjour ! C'est si bien de te voir !

17:55Par ailleurs, Tiny, c'est un nom triastic-tastic !
17:58Triastic-tastic ?
18:00Ça signifie un nom vraiment génial !
18:03Merci, Petey !
18:05Wow, Buddy !
18:06Quels yeux magnifiques !
18:07Ils sont si verts !
18:08Très bien !
18:09Hey, Petey !
18:10J'ai remarqué que tu et moi avons des ailes,
18:12et je dois dire que tes ailes ressemblent vraiment bien !
18:14Elles ont un peu la même forme que les miennes !
18:16Oui ! Merci !
18:17Hey, laissez-moi vous montrer quelque chose !
18:24Je l'ai fait moi-même !
18:26C'est appelé le Hoop-de-loop-de-swoop !
18:28Ouais !
18:29Génial !
18:30Merci ! Vraiment, les gars !
18:31S'il vous plaît, appuyez !
18:33Laissez-moi essayer, Petey ! Laissez-moi essayer !
18:36Go, Tiny ! Go, Tiny !
18:38Do the Hoop-de-loop-de-tiny-swoop !
18:44Ta-da !
18:45Wouha !
18:46Très bien !
18:47Et toi, Buddy ?
18:48Peux-tu voler ?
18:49J'ai essayé, mais qu'est-ce que je peux faire ?
18:51Je suis un T-Rex.
18:52Je n'ai pas d'ailes.
18:53Seulement des petits bras courts.
18:55Oui, mais viens !
18:56Tu as une bouche pleine de gros doigts.
18:59Bien joué !
19:00Hey, regardons ces choppers !
19:03Très bien, Buddy !
19:04Oui, j'aime mes doigts.
19:05Je les utilise pour gratter des choses.
19:08Oh, mon Dieu !
19:09J'aime aussi gratter des choses !
19:11Avec mes doigts !
19:43Cool !
19:44Tu veux dire, des fesses ?
19:45Pourquoi ?
19:46Pourquoi ?
19:47Parce que ça goûte bien.
19:48Comme celui-ci, en haut là ?
19:51Oula Buddy,
19:52Tu es sûre que c'est un insecte ?
19:54Oui, un type de flongeur.
19:55Mon Dieu, comment as-tu vu ça ?
19:57J'ai une bonne vue.
19:58Buddy,
19:59Petit, tu es génial !
20:04Hum ! Delicioso !
20:07Petit, petit, tu veux voler ensemble ?
20:09Je veux dire, nous volons tous les deux, n'est-ce pas ?
20:12Mais attends ! Petit ne peut pas voler !
20:13Et lui ?
