McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse DC Vs Vampires Nightwing Figure
Transcript
00:00 Grayson gets grouchy when he hasn't eaten. Here's your look at the brand-new
00:04 McFarlane toys DC multiverse DC vs. Vampires gold label collection Nightwing.
00:10 Vampires are hunting on the streets of Gotham City as the coming undead plague
00:34 make their first move. Batman's investigation in the disappearance of
00:38 Andrew Bennett takes him into the sewer beneath the Hall of Justice where he
00:41 makes a stunning discovery just before the former boy wonder goes out for a
00:46 bite to eat. Let's grab the tape measure and see how tall the brand-new DC vs.
00:50 Vampires gold label collection Nightwing stands. I would also like to thank the
00:54 folks over at McFarlane toys that did provide yes the sample we could also
00:57 have a look at. Nightwing is about 7 inches in height or the figure is gonna
01:01 be about 18 centimeters tall. If the figure does look familiar to you it's
01:05 because they actually pulled the body from the original DC multiverse
01:08 Nightwing to accomplish this look. They have taken the lighter colors and
01:11 darkened them in blue and they've also retooled a brand-new head sculpt. Some
01:14 other DC vs. Vampires figures we've also had a look at. Here's what he looks like
01:19 with the common prince of crime Joker and here's also what he looks like with
01:21 the man of steel Superman. Nightwing comes with Nightwing things except for
01:26 one accessory we're gonna talk more about in a moment. First the figure comes
01:30 included with a trading card. A little disappointed that the fact that they
01:32 didn't actually use a source material image this time around of actually
01:35 giving us a vampire version of Nightwing. Instead it's just a traditional
01:39 character. On the back though it does give us a read up but at least the read
01:42 up is more in line with the actual story not just Nightwing alone. The trading
01:46 card is gonna go nicely in with the rest of my trading cards in my trading card
01:49 sheet. The figure as well comes included with a display stand. The display stand
01:53 again has the DC logo branded down below and off to the side there's also the
01:58 cornering peg that can plug into either one of Nightwing's boots. Still what's
02:02 familiar is the fact the figure comes included with his two Eskimo sticks.
02:04 These can either be wielded in his hand or can also be housed on the back of the
02:09 figure as he does also have hanging hooks. You just clip these in place. The
02:13 figure while his back is not necessarily turned, let's turn him back around, he also
02:16 comes included with a gripping hand. Because he has one hand already for
02:20 holding an Eskimo stick the other hand literally on the other hand doesn't
02:24 actually give you the means so you just want to pop that out and replace it with
02:27 this one so you can actually store the Eskimo sticks on either side. You can
02:30 take the figure as he is right now and like I said you can store one Eskimo
02:34 stick in one of his hands but with the other hand as wide as it is you can't
02:38 actually store it so you will want to just pop that one off from the forearm
02:41 and replace it with this one instead. Not going to do that though because the one
02:45 other accessory the figure comes included with is too cool to put back in
02:48 a bag. One quick thing I did want to show you guys is on the back there's the
02:51 storage hooks you just take the Eskimo sticks both of them at least and you
02:55 just clip them inside. Now these are pretty soft and plastic so you don't have to
02:58 worry as much that they're gonna break. You just take the Eskimo sticks you want
03:00 to have them facing the handle side up.
03:03 Just flip these around, those just plug in place and there's at least a place to
03:07 store them if you don't want to display them in his hands. As mentioned though he
03:10 does have one larger hand that actually accommodates then a human heart. I don't
03:14 know whose heart this actually does belong to but a really nice little
03:17 accessory to say the least. It's pretty hard and plastic I was kind of expecting
03:21 this to be squishy. It's painted very nicely in a dark crimson red. This can
03:25 easily be stored in his hands you just clip this in between his fingers and his
03:28 thumb and this would always be the time I don't want to jinx myself that I would
03:33 drop something onto the floor. Not gonna do it this time around. Not gonna do it
03:36 this time around. There you go you actually can store it in his hands.
03:38 I'm gonna do that when it comes to displaying this guy on the shelf. Just
03:41 put that off to the side because I know I'm gonna drop it. Closer inspections on
03:44 his face reveal quite a horrifying Nightwing. Just to basically see where we
03:49 left off. Just bring him the original Nightwing so you guys can see the
03:52 difference between the two. We did also get ourselves a Nightwing that was part
03:55 of the Teen Titans wave. That was the Beast Boy Build-A-Figure wave. We've
03:58 already covered those in the other earlier reviews if you guys want to
04:01 check those out. This is the original Nightwing. It has still the storage on
04:05 the back for the Eskimo sticks. Nothing that changed between the two
04:08 figures. Color-wise even though the bodies are exactly the same, the newer
04:11 Nightwing does have a more darker approach to the black and the blue is
04:14 much darker as well. The crest that he has on the front of his chest not to
04:17 mention as well down below here the striping on his boots are all much
04:20 notably darker than the lighter blue that we would get on the original
04:23 release. Still the exact same bodies other than just a brand new head sculpt.
04:27 Really like the look of this one and in fact actually honestly all the DC
04:31 vampire figures have been really good. Superman was a bit of a stumbler because
04:34 I think he looked a little like Jerry Lewis but all the rest of the head
04:37 sculpts have been really good on these ones. This one being probably one of my
04:40 favorites up there with I think Joker. I love the way they've done the bloodshot
04:43 eyes, big fangs on the tops and bottom of his teeth and he's got some really nice
04:47 very very generous amounts of blood all draped around the tops and bottoms of
04:51 his lips. It's a really horrifying yet very cool looking head sculpt for
04:55 Nightwing. The blood also has found its way onto his shirt. Oh you're never gonna
04:59 be able to get all that blood off. Alfred's gonna have to work overtime
05:02 unless Alfred's already been dinner. I don't know maybe he has. A little bit of
05:06 blood has also found its way like I said on his shirt. I love the way they've
05:10 actually done this a little bit more shinier so the blood looks wet. The rest
05:14 of his body remains pretty clean when it comes to overall just like the blood
05:17 saturation. There doesn't seem to be any blood splattering anywhere else on the
05:20 rest of his suit. I would have liked if they could have just taken even at the
05:23 very least just a paintbrush and flicked some sections of his suit just a little
05:28 bit of blood because I just feel like it can't just settle there. Even if it's
05:31 dripping from his mouth. I mean I've bled. I mean obviously I wasn't going around
05:36 sucking people's necks but even when I've cut myself it never seems to just
05:39 be on one place. Usually I have little droplets all over his suit. I just wish
05:44 that there was a little bit more than just what they've allowed right here. The
05:47 rest of the coloring of his suit again like it's just all the big basic black
05:50 plastic. The blue that we do get at least here is nicely painted on the sides of
05:54 the shoulders on the back that store the Eskimo sticks and again he also has it
05:57 here. I really didn't talk too much about it. He also has here on his
06:00 knuckles there as well. Nicely painted overall. I mean it's really kind of hard
06:05 to ruin paint when there's only a few little areas on the figure that actually
06:08 do have it but again with the paint that we actually do again the figure is
06:11 pretty good. Nice sculpting on the bombs of his boots. Exactly the same as the
06:14 original one. Still has the peg holes in the undersides of his feet. It's a really
06:17 nice lean body of Nightwing and works really well for the character whether
06:21 he's a vampire or not. Now for the figure's articulation it's gonna be
06:24 exactly the same as the original Nightwing. The head's gonna rotate all
06:26 the way around. Normally I would be this is the time where you kill a person if
06:31 you were to rotate his head all the way around but you don't have to worry as
06:33 much because they're gonna be a vampire. As a side note I just want to stop
06:36 myself to say that I really like the way they've sculpted the hair. Sort of flows
06:40 off to the side. Really well combed. I really don't know would a vampire still
06:44 take the time to comb his hair. Just seems like it's pretty clean of a
06:47 hairstyle for someone's going around sucking people's necks. Anyways head
06:52 looks up about that high it can look down that low. You can also move it back
06:56 and forth as well. Arms easily come up beyond the point of 90 degrees. You can
07:00 actually do almost jumping jacks with this character. You can take the arms and
07:03 rotate them all the way around. All the way around. So a swivel there also on the
07:07 bicep. The figure does also have a double hinge on the elbow just although
07:10 sometimes doing that you may knock an excrement stick out of the back of his
07:13 body. Hands rotate also all the way around as well. Now for his torso even
07:18 though this is really just using the original Nightwing body there's
07:21 something maybe about the plastic that they've used. It seems like it's maybe a
07:24 little bit thicker. I don't know this just seemed like it was a little bit
07:27 more softer on the top of his torso. It definitely seems a lot harder here in
07:30 this figure. So because of that it looks a little bit more consistent. It doesn't
07:35 have kind of that little flap that started to develop on the earlier
07:38 figures. Where like this part you know again because they were using the torso
07:41 articulation as it was. I don't know it just looks like the the bodies look a
07:45 little cleaner. Upper torso is going to be on a ball joint. The lower torso again
07:49 is on a ball joint and even though this trunk the lower trunks are softer
07:52 plastic it doesn't have the quote figure diaper that sometimes plagues some of
07:57 these figures. It's a pretty again nice consistent form for the rest of the
08:01 torso above it. Legs split out. They're a little on the tighter side but again I'd
08:05 rather tighter joints and looser joints. You take those legs and move forward. You
08:09 can move them back. There's a swivel at certainly at the top of the thigh. The
08:13 figure does also have a double hinge on the knee although it's really tight in
08:15 this figure but again that's not a bad thing at all.
08:17 Ankle pivot back and forth. Ankle rocker this way and again you've got yourself
08:22 your toe articulation. It's a gold label collection figure so of course usually
08:25 the territory that the covers figures that already have existing molds. So
08:29 again a good opportunity to again to dust off if I just get this guy to stand.
08:33 Good opportunity to then dust off the original Nightwing which again this was
08:38 the first Nightwing. We also got ourselves a secondary release Nightwing
08:40 that was part of the Teen Titans Build-A-Figure Beast Boy wave but again
08:43 nice use of a remold. The head sculpt is again completely different. The
08:47 accessories are a little bit different. Obviously big difference when it comes
08:49 to the fact that he also comes in clear with a human heart. Not sure whose human
08:52 heart this belongs to. Yeah nice-looking Nightwing. Not gonna be displayed though
08:56 on the rest of the shelf with the rest of the Teen Titans unless maybe he's
08:58 feasting on the Teen Titans. No rather instead I'm gonna have this guy
09:01 displayed on the shelf with the rest of my DC versus vampires figures which I
09:04 think up to this point we have four? Four? Because we have Batman. I didn't bring
09:09 out actually Batman in for this review. We have Joker, we have Superman and now
09:12 we have Nightwing. I think we only have four. We might even have more than that
09:15 but nice-looking set of DC multiverse DC versus vampires figures. Nightwing is
09:20 gonna be a nice addition to my existing collection. Dusting off molds and finding
09:25 ways to re-release those figures. Every figure company in the market is guilty
09:28 of doing it. McFarland for a while has kind of done that for the gold label
09:32 collection figures. So like if for example you have a retail release of
09:35 Red Hood, the gold label version of that would basically be the Red Hood body
09:38 just with an unmasked head sculpt. Not always not always successful. Though to
09:42 the credit of the team now the stuff that we're getting now with the gold
09:45 label collection is a little bit more now creative. It's usually a lot of times
09:49 taking existing molds and finding maybe more classic colors. So like for example
09:52 you may have had a Hawkman. They have released a Hawkman in Super Powers
09:56 colors. Still want to get my hands on that one. I mean if you look at Nightwing
09:59 for example, this Nightwing was released years ago and yet with the chance now
10:04 being putting under the DC versus vampires banner giving him now a human
10:08 heart, giving him now a retooled ghoulish head and darkening the colors of the
10:11 plastic. Not only you get the chance for that mold to shine again but you get a
10:15 really interesting figure that's gonna go on the shelf.
10:17 Granted the DC versus vampires is gonna be a line that's not gonna appeal to all
10:20 collectors but if you're a big horror fan like myself this may be right up your
10:24 alley. Big thank you once again to the folks over at McFarland toys that did
10:27 provide the sample of the gold label collection DC versus vampires Nightwing
10:31 that we can have a look at in this review. What do you guys think of the
10:33 figure? Let me know down below in the comment section and if you have been
10:36 collecting the DC versus vampires what other character would you like to see
10:40 McFarland's team tackled next? If you guys in the meantime did enjoy this video
