00:00He seems to have an easy way of articulating the rules of Halloween.
00:05Here's your Spooky Spot on the Spirit Halloween Trick-or-Treat Articulated Statue of Sam.
00:11To the untrained eye, Sam looks like any other trick-or-treater looking for candy.
00:37But what lurks under the burlap sack and orange footie pajamas is anything but sweet.
00:42Sam may have his rules, but I have mine.
00:45Just before, of course, we get a closer look at the Spirit Halloween Trick-or-Treat Articulated Sam,
00:49let's press the tape measure and let's see how tall this figure stands.
00:52Now, if you want to, you don't have to necessarily have him perched on top of this display stand.
00:56The figure actually just attaches by two pegs.
00:58What I maybe will do is I'll measure what the figure looks like with the stand,
01:01then we'll just take him off and I'll measure him again.
01:04With the stand in mind, though, first, you're looking at the figure standing about 13 inches in height,
01:08or Sam's going to be about 33 centimeters tall.
01:12Then, just with simply taking the figure off the display stand,
01:15he just attaches by these very large posts.
01:18We'll put the stand right over there. We'll put Sam over here.
01:21And then just to measure Sam again, right to the very top, he's going to be about 11 1⁄2 inches in height,
01:26or this time around about 29 1⁄2 centimeters tall.
01:31And we'll also move the display stand out of the way. We'll come back to that.
01:34The closest thing I have to a Sam of maybe somewhat this size is the one, of course, we got from Trick-or-Treat Studios.
01:39So let's bring him in right now.
01:41Trick-or-Treat, admittedly, maybe doesn't have the color completely matching for, of course, his hood.
01:45But if you want to have that character displayed with six-scale figures,
01:48that's the closest one you're really going to want to go with.
01:50If you start to consider the idea of maybe displaying the one from Spirit Halloween,
01:53as you can see already for yourself, the figure is way too tall.
01:56By the way, Sam does go for $74.99 in stores, but I did have a 20% off coupon,
02:00so I saved a little bit of money there.
02:02I think most of the money that they set aside for this figure goes more into the display stand,
02:06and not to the figure itself.
02:08The display stand does have audio clips, but it does kind of ask the question,
02:11did it really need to have them?
02:13There are batteries already installed in the bottom,
02:15so you don't have to worry about those when you first get Sam for yourself.
02:18There's an on and off switch.
02:19And then there's the little connecting peg there that if you had the little try button still,
02:22you could still keep that plugged in the bottom.
02:24I just chose to leave that off instead.
02:26It's a good-sized base, but it also gives him a lot more height.
02:29It does activate by having the front of this placard pressed,
02:32and that cycles through the audio.
02:34Sam, of course, does plug onto the top here.
02:36The base itself, I don't know, would necessarily look like anything from Trick or Treat.
02:40You could maybe use the argument, maybe it looks like a sidewalk.
02:43I don't know.
02:44I think they probably could have changed this instead for grass or something else instead.
02:47I can't help but also think the way that they made the placard as something that you would press
02:52makes me think that maybe they could use this for a future figure down the road,
02:55and then they would just simply change the font that they want to use out.
02:58So it wouldn't be Trick or Treat.
02:59Maybe they could put, I don't know, Leatherface, Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
03:02Maybe they could even put Universal Monsters, Frankenstein.
03:04I don't know.
03:05But I feel like this display stand probably could be used for something else.
03:08We're going to switch it, though, to on.
03:10And to then press the audio, all you're going to have to do is press this again.
03:18It is quite loud.
03:20The speaker actually comes from the back here.
03:28The thing I do like about this is that you don't have to wait for the audio to completely finish.
03:32If you're tired of that sound or you have kids coming over all the time
03:35and they want to start pressing these things,
03:37you don't have to wait three or four minutes for the audio to finally finish.
03:40You can interrupt at any time by pressing the placard again.
03:51I'm not saying anything right now,
03:53just so that you could fully hear the complete audio from start to finish.
04:00And that's it.
04:01No matter how many times you press it,
04:03the audio will be completely the same each time.
04:05I have now heard this, I would say, at least a dozen times,
04:08and I'm already tired of it.
04:10Again, if it wasn't for the fact that you could press this again to interrupt that audio,
04:14I don't know what I would do.
04:16Again, if it wasn't for the fact that you could press this again to interrupt that audio,
04:20I would then have to sit through this every single time.
04:22I'd probably even just consider the idea of turning it off all the time,
04:25just so I wouldn't have to listen to it again.
04:27But again, that's the only way to activate the audio.
04:30Maybe what I'll do, in fact, is turn that off.
04:32So we're just going to press it again.
04:34So that's the base.
04:35And of course, Sam's going to attach to the base.
04:37If you look at the bottom of his feet, there's these large holes.
04:39Look at the size of these things on the bottoms of his footed pajamas.
04:43And that's just going to then plug onto the display base.
04:45If you leave him off, I mean, he stands fine on his own.
04:48He's a little wobbly, though, in his knees and his ankles.
04:51And we'll talk more about that.
04:53The figure does also come included with a lollipop.
04:56The lollipop is removable if you wanted to completely leave that off.
04:59The thing about it, though, is that with him having closed fists like this,
05:02it looks like he should really be holding something.
05:04So I'll always leave the lollipop there.
05:06For what it is, you can see it has the chipped away section that he does in the movie.
05:11It's more of a solid orange plastic.
05:14Ideally, I would have liked if they could have maybe used a see-through transparent orange plastic.
05:19And also as well, let me just put this down here for a second.
05:22What they've done is they've molded this all clearly in orange plastic.
05:28And then very cheapedly, it's not even a word, I don't know,
05:31but they've taken literally just black ribbon and they just rolled it up.
05:36I would have thought that painting this would have been so much easier.
05:40I mean, clearly they've painted part at least of the Jack-o'-lantern's face with the mouth and the eye.
05:45Why wouldn't they have done something similar here?
05:47With this only really being like a ribbon of adhesive,
05:50you can see it unravels anywhere that it's not finished.
05:54So at the bottom where they started this or at the top,
05:56you can see that it's already starting to peel off.
05:59Really cheap.
06:00Again, I really wish that they...
06:02For the price that this guy sells for,
06:04I would have liked to have thought that they could have actually gone and actually painted the stripes instead.
06:08Also too, if you're feeding this into his hand,
06:10that's going to start to unravel the adhesive strip very, very easy.
06:15The other thing that he has in his hand is his bag.
06:17Now, when you're looking at the bag, they've actually tied that around his hands.
06:20It's not to say that you can't have him holding it without the string,
06:24but I'd probably just rather leave the string in place.
06:26I mean, it just makes things easier for him holding the burlap sack.
06:29And then it just ensures that obviously the sack isn't going to fall out of his hands.
06:32The sack is quite cushiony.
06:34They put a lot of filler inside the bag.
06:36The bag looks good for what it is.
06:38Again, I probably would have had him more draped to the side of his body
06:42rather than him looking like he's showing everybody,
06:44look what I got, look what I got, look what I got.
06:46So I'm probably just going to have it down to the bottom of his legs instead.
06:50So while the figure is fairly articulated,
06:53the one thing that's a bit of a bummer is the fact that his head,
06:55as good as it may look,
06:56I think it actually looks better than Trick or Treat Studios' release of Sam.
06:59It doesn't have any articulation.
07:01If they had only found a way to maybe make this as a swivel cut right here,
07:05where at least you could rotate the head from the rest of the collar,
07:07but you can't.
07:08The head and the collar are all one piece.
07:10And even then, to try to rotate it,
07:12there's nothing that you can really do to it.
07:14The eyes are painted well.
07:16You got the stitch line there on the front.
07:18The crisscross on the front for the mouth and the seam up the middle looks good.
07:21I mean, everything really on this guy is colored well for the burlap sack face.
07:24The footed pajamas also look good as well.
07:26He's got the little pocket there on the back.
07:28This is all done with Velcro too.
07:30I suppose, not that you really would have a figure of this size,
07:33but it's actually a good-looking pajama that they've given him.
07:36Little sewn-off patches to the sides.
07:38Of course, he's got his feet down below here as well.
07:40Everything really is articulate.
07:42We're going to talk more about the articulation.
07:44Of course, he does have the pegs on the bottoms of his feet.
07:46For what he is,
07:48I don't know if I would say he's worth the $74.
07:50I feel like really where they added the upcharge of this
07:54was the fact they include the bass.
07:56Even if they didn't even have the audio,
07:58you probably could have assumed that they could have dropped the price
08:00maybe like $10 to $15
08:02if it was just the bass and nothing more.
08:04By adding electronics,
08:06I feel they unnecessarily added extra cost
08:08that this figure probably could have easily sold
08:10for maybe $50 instead of the $70.
08:12Now, for Sam's articulation,
08:14he actually has a lot more than you'd expect him to have.
08:16For this being really an articulated figure
08:18sold at Spirit Halloween seems so unheard of,
08:20and yet the figure does have some surprising levels of posability.
08:24He doesn't have, unfortunately, much though in his head.
08:27Again, you can kind of move it up and down
08:29just only by a little bit,
08:31but he does have quite a bit of movement though in his arms.
08:33You can move them out, you can move them up.
08:35I would say normally you'd be able to rotate them all the way around,
08:37but obviously just because he's got this material here
08:39it's going to get pretty tight really fast around his shoulders.
08:42The figure doesn't have any swivel in his bicep,
08:44but he does have at least an elbow bend,
08:46so you can bend it.
08:48It only seems to have, from what I can feel, a single hinge.
08:50You can also see as well that they're using
08:52completely just a white plastic body here.
08:54You're probably never going to be able to see this
08:56obviously because he's got the longer sleeve,
08:58but it does look unfinished,
09:00so I would imagine that they're probably going to be using this body again.
09:02I can't just think that they're going to be using this solely for Sam,
09:04but it's just a single hinge in the elbow,
09:06no rotation there at all.
09:08It's got a bit of an ugly hinge joint there
09:10for also his wrist.
09:12Let's just roll this sleeve down here for a second.
09:14So the joint obviously allows the hand to move back and forth,
09:16but you can also rotate it back and forth this way as well.
09:18Now he has no waist articulation.
09:20If you've ever collected, say for example,
09:22the Living Dead dolls from Mezco,
09:24very similar styles of articulation there as well.
09:26Nothing in the waist,
09:28but the legs do split out.
09:30You can take the legs and move forward,
09:32you can move them back.
09:34He has surprisingly a ratcheted knees,
09:36and yet though they never gave him a ratcheted elbow.
09:38It's really strange that they decide only just to do it down here.
09:40And then he has articulation here for the ankle.
09:42It's the only thing I would really criticize though
09:44that's loose on the figure.
09:46It's very loose here back and forth,
09:48it doesn't rock back and forth at all,
09:50but when you do sometimes put him on the display stand,
09:52he started doing it actually just before I hit record,
09:54he kind of starts to lean a little bit,
09:56just leaning a little bit.
09:58I suppose I could probably try to open up this
10:00and see if I can tighten up the joints and the ankles,
10:02but if anything,
10:04I might just try to have a little bit more angled back.
10:06And of course then,
10:08if you want to attach him onto the display base,
10:10the only right way to put him on
10:12is to have with the font facing forward,
10:14and then you just attach him onto the display base.
10:16He looks good with the display,
10:18but I almost have to say that
10:20he could have easily just been released without it.
10:22Adding, of course, all the bells and whistles
10:24and the included audio
10:26just doesn't seem like it made much sense to me.
10:28Obviously, from a package standpoint,
10:30it's a lot better of a sell
10:32for people that are walking by in the stores.
10:34I mean, if you were just sell this solely
10:36just with this alone and not the base with it,
10:38probably people maybe pass by it.
10:40I mean, people love,
10:42I mean, my daughter does it,
10:44I do it myself, everybody does it.
10:46Anything that says Try Me,
10:48you know you're going to go up
10:50and you're going to press the button.
10:52And sees the price at $74.99
10:54and thinks, you know, $74.99,
10:56that's a bit steep,
10:58whether I have a 20% off coupon or not.
11:00But the fact that they then include audio
11:02probably was the hook,
11:04the line that they needed to lure you in
11:06to buy this for yourself.
11:08I don't think ideally it needed it.
11:10I mean, it's one thing at least to have this on display
11:12that it does something.
11:14The thing about it, though,
11:16is that it's going to be doing
11:18that same something all the time.
11:20Now, I did hit Spirit Halloween's pretty early.
11:22As soon as the stores started to open,
11:24I was in there already with my daughter,
11:26checking around to the different animatronic creatures
11:28that they have lurking at the front door
11:30and, of course, starting to get some ideas
11:32as to what she really wanted to be for Halloween.
11:34Sam, at that time, wasn't on the shelves.
11:36Sure enough, though, when the stores
11:38were getting into full swing of the spooky season,
11:40Sam started to show up then.
11:42Now, going in there and seeing him the first time
11:44and realizing he was $74.99,
11:46I already thought one idea in my head,
11:48which is usually probably the same thing
11:50that collectors always do when they go to Spirit Halloween's.
11:52They get the lay of the land,
11:54they see what the prices are going to be selling for,
11:56and then they wait it out until they get a 20% off coupon.
11:58You can say that you're one of those people that don't,
12:00but we all know you are.
12:02Sure enough, I had a 20% off coupon pop up online,
12:04went back to the store,
12:06and they still had a Sam,
12:08and I used the 20% off.
12:10So I saved a little bit of cost there.
12:12Not to say that I wasn't still going to be enticed
12:14to get a Sam, though, at $74.99,
12:16he doesn't have the bells and whistles
12:18of an animatronic like Chucky,
12:20because that's one of the things we've also looked at
12:22in earlier spooky spots.
12:24But the fact that he does have an audio bass
12:26could maybe be an argument as to why this figure
12:28needed to be as high as he was.
12:30It does ask the question, though,
12:32without the audio bass,
12:34what could have an articulated Sam actually sold for?
12:36$40? $50?
12:38I think anything after $50 you're probably asking a lot.
12:40Although, really, to be fair,
12:42the footed pajamas alone,
12:44the quality is definitely there.
12:46I feel like they've done a good job on the fabric
12:48that they've used, and the painted mask
12:50for Sam looks really good.
12:52It actually, in fact, might look even better
12:54than some of the companies that also have produced a Sam.
12:56Speaking of other figures, though,
12:58he may not be one that scales well
13:00with other sixth scale figures.
13:02If you're looking to display this guy, especially with a bass,
13:04I mean, already he's going to be way too tall.
13:06But if you leave him off the bass,
13:08he's going to be about the same size as a Michael Myers.
13:10And you know that's not going to be right at all.
13:12He's standing on his own.
13:14Sam looks good, but is he good for $74.99?
13:16Let me know down below in the comments section
13:18if you guys have already had the chance
13:20to pick this one up,
13:22or if the $74.99 is maybe too steep,
13:24and maybe you'll wait until this guy gets marked down.
13:26If you guys did enjoy this video,
13:28in the meantime, hit it with a like.
13:30You guys want to stick around for more, so I hope so.
13:32Make sure you hit that subscribe.
13:34Make sure you turn on that bell.
13:36And a more important thing
13:38is that you're keeping your ghoulish peepers peeled.
13:40I may be wrapping up things right now for trick-or-treating,
13:42but there will be a lot more spooky-related videos
13:44coming your way during the month of Spot-tober.
13:46As always, thanks for watching.
13:48See you guys next time.
