00:00 Tots tackles the OG boogeyman and he's never looked better.
00:04 Here's a look at the brand-new Trick-or-Treat Studios screen greats
00:06 Halloween's Michael Myers.
00:10 Trick-or-Treat Studios is proud to present the officially licensed Halloween
00:28 1978 Michael Myers action figure as part of their screen greats series one
00:31 collection. Screen greats features iconic characters from some of our favorite
00:34 cinematic masterpieces. Each highly detailed figure is in an 8-inch scale
00:39 and be perfect for display in any collection. Michael Myers includes an
00:42 interchangeable right arm with knife gripping right hand position, knife and
00:46 pumpkin accessory, packed on a backer card with plastic blister. What exactly
00:51 are behind those blackest eyes? We'll try to find that out in this review but first
00:55 I'd like to thank the folks over at Trick-or-Treat Studios that did provide
00:58 the sample of the brand new screen greats Halloween 1978 Michael Myers if
01:02 we could have a look at this review. The figure as well as all the other screen
01:05 greats are available over on their site right now for $34.99. As it is right now
01:10 Michael Myers is currently in stock. The figure isn't quite though 8 inches. If I
01:14 can get this as close as I can you're looking at the figure being just a few
01:17 hairs shorter than 8 inches. He's actually more or less about 7 and 3/4 of
01:21 an inch in height. The figure is going to be about 20 centimeters tall.
01:25 Now those that are looking for posability with these new screen greats
01:29 are going to be a bit disappointed. These are actually more throwbacks to the
01:32 original figures that we would have got from the days of like the movie maniacs
01:34 or the cult classic days of the early 2000s while coming from a different
01:38 company altogether. From a comparison standpoint I did want to bring in,
01:41 speaking of cult classics Michael Myers, I think the one I'm just bringing in
01:44 right now happens to be a knockoff, but you get the same idea that the body is
01:47 going to be very similar in a staction way. They're about the same size to one
01:51 another. If you did want to for example compare it with more of an ultimate
01:54 release then here's also what he looks like with a Halloween 2 Michael Myers
01:58 also from NECA toys. Comparing the two obviously this one is about the same
02:01 size as one another. Obviously he is going to be a lot taller though than the
02:05 ultimate Michael Myers from Halloween 2. The boogeyman does get himself a couple
02:10 of accessories. The first the figure comes in clue with a jack-o'-lantern. The
02:13 jack-o'-lantern is that of the original 1978 design so it does have that little
02:17 cut that leads then up to the little triangular shape that it has for its
02:20 nose. The interior looks to be a more lighter coloring of yellow while the
02:24 outer husk or skin of the pumpkin has been nicely colored in a darker orange
02:27 color. There's a few little imperfections that one would expect to go along with
02:31 the pumpkin. There is no light up features or anything along those lines
02:33 but all in all though a nice-looking jack-o'-lantern. I wonder if we are gonna
02:37 be getting other future Michael Myers from the scream grades line. I certainly
02:40 hope so. The figure also as well comes in clue with his butcher knife. The butcher
02:44 knife looks to be cast here in silver plastic while they have taken the time
02:48 to paint the handle and then march darker brown. There are a few little sections of
02:51 course that have the little riveted points. The two halves of course of the
02:54 wooded handle sandwiched on either side of the blade and nicely painted on both
02:58 sides from trick-or-treat studios. It fits into his hand although it doesn't
03:01 really fit necessarily into this hand. The fact that the figure does have
03:04 relaxed hands you can kind of just wedge it in there but it doesn't really stay
03:08 properly in place. Instead rather Michael Myers comes in clue with an alternate
03:12 arm. It comes with one that's already pre-bent. So if you wanted to have him for
03:16 example holding the knife this is the hand and the arm really to go along with
03:19 it is the best option for that. Now it's a good case obviously just popping off
03:23 the arm that he has on this side already and just replace it with the
03:26 entire arm. I think there may also be a way to swap the hands out although I've
03:31 heard some issues where the peg actually ended up breaking. So may it been
03:34 possible I don't know if I would run really run the risk of trying to remove
03:37 the hand if you want to swap it out with more just a flat flat or relaxed arm
03:41 instead. So what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna commit to having the arm and the
03:44 hand together as one piece. I'm only just gonna replace the entire arm. The arm
03:48 actually was a lot easier to remove it didn't involve in fact any heating of it
03:51 with either a hair dryer or hot water. Just pop and completely divorce the
03:55 forearm from the rest of his body and then take of course the bent arm and
03:58 snap it in place. It fits again fairly easy very little force was really
04:03 required to pop that out and replace it out. Again it does have now the new hand.
04:07 The hand is better than for holding the knife. Just be careful when you are
04:10 putting it in his hand because the grip is very close. You can see how how close
04:14 the fingers are to the palm for example. So when you're putting in place you just
04:18 want make sure you don't put pressure against the blade in case it snaps off
04:20 the handle and that's what Michael Myers then looks like with the knife in his
04:23 hand. I will probably want to try to heat this to see if I can twist this around a
04:27 little bit just there seems to be resistance and obviously resistance
04:31 usually tells me not to twist any further and for the risk that that could
04:34 snap just break right off. It doesn't seem like it's gonna be snapping off. It
04:38 does look like there's a little bit of possibility. I'm gonna see if I can heat
04:40 that up just a little bit if I can twist it out just a little bit better than
04:43 what it is right now but that's what Michael Myers looks like then with the
04:45 bent arm. I will prefer to have him displayed like this myself as opposed to
04:49 having him with the relaxed arms. There is also a release of this one I think it
04:53 was the h45 anniversary that had him more in the green coveralls. This is
04:57 actually approaching the figure kind of more in a charcoal gray like he had in
05:01 the movie. A debatable topic of course. Many people debate of course the colors
05:05 of which Michael Myers would have been wearing the coveralls in the film. Many
05:07 people would say spruce green. Spruce green was the accurate color but
05:10 depending on when you see and how you see the original 1978 film. Some would
05:14 say it's blue. Some would say it's black. Some would even say it's dark gray. They
05:17 went the approach of actually doing this in a darker gray but I would love to get
05:19 my hands at some point on the h45 anniversary release that has the colors
05:23 more of in a green color. That being said let's get a closer look at the Michael
05:27 Myers head sculpt. For me at least I would say this is the best Michael
05:31 Myers head that we've gotten of a smaller scale. Now trick-or-treat has
05:34 also done very well the 1978 Michael Myers and all the follow-up films in a
05:38 six scale size as well and I think they've been knocking out of the park
05:42 for those figure head sculpts also. But I mean just to look at this from all the
05:45 sides there's nothing where I would look at this and think that doesn't look at
05:48 all like Michael Myers. One thing it does do though as you can see they've colored
05:52 in the eyes completely so there's no really no way to actually see the eyes
05:54 inside the sockets of the mask and I I prefer it that way myself. I mean the one
05:59 thing with having eyes visible like this you have to have them far enough back so
06:02 you get that reset area that very dark shadowed sections we can really make out
06:07 very barely make out his eyes inside the mask. I again prefer the fact that they
06:11 actually did instead paint the inside of his eye cavities so they're completely
06:15 black the blackest eyes the devil's eyes. Head sculpt though is really good on
06:20 this one they've even actually brushed a little bit of skin reveal down below
06:23 here because originally this would have been a Don Post, a William Shatner or
06:27 Captain Kirk mask and of course they would have just painted over top and
06:30 then white so some of the areas underneath the mask for example start to
06:33 reveal a little bit of that flesh tone and they've nicely done that again here
06:36 in the figure mask. Again like this is one of the best Michael Myers masks that
06:40 we've ever gotten I think in a figure form. The hair is really nicely done here
06:44 also as well you can see the sections where for example the sideburns would
06:48 have been completely torn away. The back of the hair does have a little bit the
06:51 curl on the sides that he would have for the film. I would have probably even just
06:54 curled them up just a little bit more because a lot of people usually coin
06:57 this as he sort of has like kind of devil horns on the sides of his hair but
07:00 all in all though a really good one of the best if not the best head sculpts
07:04 that we've gotten and again comes to us from Trick-or-Treat Studios. Between what
07:07 they've done with the sixth scale release of the 78 Myers and now what
07:10 they're doing with the Scream grades they know exactly how to sculpt the
07:12 proper Michael Myers. As I already did say though the rest of the body is gonna
07:16 be sectioned at least really like this part down. He has the open collar which
07:20 of course does have the pop color up this is not quite a soft plastic but
07:24 it's got a little bit of give to it. Colored very nicely again in a more
07:27 darker kind of very dark gray as opposed to going the route of the green. Again
07:32 he's got the skin tone here the skin tone that's a hard thing to say.
07:36 A little bit darker in color a little bit darker complexion. I will say though
07:40 one thing they've also really done not only just landing a perfect likeness to
07:43 his mask but they've also given a slightly more tapered off or very
07:47 thin-bodied frame of Nick Castle would have portrayed the role in the film. All
07:51 in all though again just a really nice-looking figure. If you are a fan of
07:54 like the original Movie Maniacs I grew up loving Movie Maniacs in the early
07:57 2000s. That was the thing I was collecting the most. This does really
08:01 resonate and is really in a way passing the torch off to another company and
08:04 they're really running it now. Trick-or-treat Studios that is with a
08:07 superior looking Michael Myers. If you can really overlook the fact it doesn't
08:11 have really any posability from like this section down boy boy it's a nice
08:15 looking sculpt. Now for the posability on this figure the top of the head is going
08:19 to be on a ball joint so you can rotate the head fully around. If you want that
08:22 signature slight tilt that Michael has when he's looking up at Bob
08:26 successfully can be pulled off by the fact it does have a ball joint. I mean
08:30 really you could even rotate the head all the way around not that you really
08:32 would really want to but you could twist it all the way around if you want. The
08:36 arms do hinge out. Now they come out at 90 degrees whether you decide you want
08:39 to use say this arm or you want to revert it back to having more just a
08:43 relaxed arm. Either way they hinge. I mean you can see how much of a range that
08:47 single hinge possesses. Now again he does have what I think to be swiveling in his
08:51 hands although there is a little bit of resistance like even as I'm turning it
08:54 right now it's almost telling me I probably shouldn't turn it any further.
08:57 By the way that they've attached it leads me to think that there's some
09:00 swiveling in the wrist but I don't want to twist it too much for the case that I
09:04 might be shredding the actual peg and popping it off. Now again the same thing
09:07 also applies for here for this arm as well. This hand does look like there's a
09:11 little bit of swivel but it doesn't seem like it swivels a whole lot. Then we get
09:15 down to the actual boots. Nothing I really spend a lot of time talking about
09:18 in this review. The boots have been nicely done to the original 1978 boots.
09:22 These were green Vietnam era I think Ultima Jungle boots. Nicely colored here
09:26 with that little bit of green also in the top. That's one thing that companies
09:29 when they do Michael Myers don't tend to color that little bit of green and glad
09:33 to see they actually did that. You'll also be glad to see as well that the
09:36 figure does have pegs on the undersides of his feet. Although really Michael
09:38 Myers doesn't have any real tough time to stand but if you wanted to put
09:42 him on the display stand I think it would have been fun if they could have
09:44 included a display stand for example. A big circular black display stand
09:48 would have screen grades. It wouldn't necessarily even have to have for
09:51 example like the name of the movie. I don't think it necessarily need to have
09:54 a like the original 1978 font or logo for Halloween even if they just gave us
09:59 a black stand that had screen grades written across the front of it. I think
10:02 that would be one way to also make this line consistent if you wanted to have
10:06 them all on the shelf. But boy what a nice looking figure. Looking at what we
10:10 had already gotten with the announcements from Trick-or-Treat Studios
10:13 and the fact that they were gonna be tackling the screen grades I knew right
10:16 away that this was the line for 2024 for me. Now seeing Michael Myers of course we
10:20 will be looking at the rest of the screen grades courtesy of the folks over
10:22 at Trick-or-Treat Studios but had to start it of course with the original
10:25 1978 Michael Myers I don't think he's ever looked at this good. I mean yeah
10:29 granted he doesn't have some of the posability that other companies have
10:32 possessed with their ultimate releases of Michael Myers but overlooking that if
10:35 you are a fan of the original movie maniac line that of course only really
10:39 had really relegated shoulder swivels and swivels in the hands and in the head
10:43 boy this is a great follow-up. A baton a passing if you will from the original
10:47 movie maniacs to what we're now getting with Trick-or-Treat Studios. If you ask
10:50 me I think having a six scale or having an 8 at 8 inch scale I should say a
10:55 figure line I think it's in the right hands of giving it to Trick-or-Treat
10:58 Studios. They've been knocking again out of the park when it comes to the six
11:00 scale releases of Michael Myers they've done it equally as good almost even
11:04 better I think on the head sculpt on this one on a smaller 8 inch release of
11:07 Michael. Early in the days of 2000 if you are a horror fan you are likely
11:11 collecting movie maniacs. Some of the figures had questionable likenesses but
11:15 they had limited articulation also as well and you know to be said and fair
11:18 about that original line there was a charm that went along with the movie
11:21 maniacs and what we were getting back then at least from McFarlane toys were
11:24 some of the best horror figures around. Since then of course over the years and
11:28 over the decades companies have now picked up properties and releasing their
11:31 own line of horror figures but in a way though what we're getting here from the
11:34 screen greats and Trick-or-Treat Studios is a throwback to those original retro
11:38 toys and I'm loving every one of them I've seen so far. Michael Myers of course
11:42 does have still the limited articulation that the original movie maniacs Michael
11:46 Myers would have had only really relegated to the shoulders the hands and
11:48 of course the head but that's all I really need when it comes to a retro
11:51 line and I think that Trick-or-Treat understands that. They know exactly what
11:55 category and what collectors these are geared towards. They're gearing it not
11:58 necessarily to collectors want super articulation but the collectors like
12:02 myself that were collecting early days in 2000s and collect those movie manics
12:06 all those horror figures with very limited articulation. What I will say
12:09 though about the newer stuff with Trick-or-Treat is that the screen greats
12:12 while still having limited imposability more than makes up for it though with a
12:16 stellar looking head sculpt of Michael Myers. While he's limited yes on
12:20 posability the head sculpt is one of the best if not the best we've gotten from
12:24 Michael Myers even though it's on a figure that has a staction body. He
12:28 has articulation I think where it counts in the shoulders the hand I think is
12:31 still kind of questionable and of course he has a full ball joint motion in the
12:34 head sculpt. Of course he also comes in clear with a butcher knife. He comes with
12:37 an alternate arm so if you wanted to swap it out altogether swapping of
12:40 course the option of then giving up posability in his elbows just popping
12:44 out the arm I think made more sense and of course he also comes in clear with
12:47 that classic 1978 jack-o'-lantern. A big fan of the original movie maniacs I can
12:51 really see myself being a big fan of the screen greats from what we've seen so
12:54 far. What do you guys think of this line? Let me know down below in the comment
12:57 section. I'm calling it right now I think screen greats from at least a horror
13:01 collector is gonna be the big line for 2024. Big thank you once again to the
13:05 folks over at Trick-or-Treat Studios that did provide the sample of the brand new
13:08 scream greats Halloween 1978 Michael Myers. We can have a look in this review.
13:12 The figure once again is available over on their site for $34.99 and I think all
