00:00 I know now that my wife has become a host to a Kandarian demon. I fear that
00:04 the only way to stop these possessed by the spirits of the book is through the
00:07 act of bodily dismemberment. Here's a look at the Trick-or-Treat Studios
00:11 Evil Dead 2 Dead by Dawn the Necronomicon Ex Mortis replica prop.
00:28 Legend has it it was written by the Dark Ones. Necronomicon Ex Mortis roughly
00:34 translated to the Book of the Dead. The book served as a passageway into the
00:37 evil world beyond. It was written long ago when seas ran red with blood. It was
00:42 this blood that was used to ink the book. In the year 1300 AD the book disappeared
00:47 until it was later discovered by Professor Raymond Nobby in the ruins of
00:51 Castle Kandor. These artifacts are only an insight as to what evil could be
00:56 lurking just outside of our world. Though I'm sure very ill-advised before we start
01:01 flipping through the pages of this possessed book I'd like to first thank
01:04 the folks over at Trick-or-Treat Studios that did kindly provide the sample of
01:08 the Evil Dead 2 Book of the Dead Necronomicon prop that we could have a
01:11 look at. It is as of right now still available over on their site for $119.99
01:16 or you can also go the route of four interest-free installments of $29.99.
01:21 That being said let's go ahead and grab the tape measure just in case again you
01:24 guys want to see how big the book is. From the bottom to the top you're
01:27 looking at the Necronomicon at being exactly 10 inches in height or
01:32 that's gonna work out to be about 26 centimeters in length. As for its width
01:37 though from the end of its spine to the front of its opening just flip it around
01:40 first two inches you're looking at it being about eight and a half inches in
01:44 width or it's gonna be about 21 and a half centimeters wide. While maybe not
01:50 being bound in flesh the book though is bound in natural latex so if you have a
01:54 natural allergy to latex this may not be a prop collectible you may want to have
01:58 to your collection but it is though based on the design of the Necronomicon
02:02 from Evil Dead 2 Dead by Dawn. A somewhat rebooted sequel to the original
02:07 Evil Dead film in which obviously the Book of the Dead does make some
02:11 drastic changes to the way it's sculpted. The book obviously in this case is
02:15 actually based on the face that it has in the in the second follow-up film.
02:19 Although the coloring I would say though going back and looking at the source
02:23 material I think the Necronomicon in Evil Dead 2 is kind of more of a darker
02:27 chestnut brown than maybe the lighter brown that we get here. An opportunity
02:31 though I will say from Trick-or-Treat's part by making the book bound in a
02:34 lighter brown is it also gives in way a chance for some of the features like the
02:38 face for example to stand a little bit more simply just because again they're
02:42 using a darker coloring. You can see like for the face for example and where I
02:45 guess a serviceable nasal cavity as well as a mouth would be that these are all
02:49 been well handled in a darker coloring of paint. Again if they had gone say the
02:54 road of a darker chestnut brown like it would be in the movie and I think also
02:57 in the movie it's a little bit more of a duller finish than the more shinier. This
03:02 actually comes across more like it actually has been wrapped in flesh. As
03:05 interesting as that is. It's certainly a little more shinier here maybe not as
03:10 shiny as it is on the spine and then of course on the back it doesn't have maybe
03:15 some of the pizzazz that the front of the face of the book would have but it
03:18 does still have some really cool texturing all that they've added into
03:22 the book itself. Now the book is actually quite well bound. It does have if you
03:26 open up the book for example want to make sure we've got it flipped around
03:28 the right way here. We open up the book again I think it's okay because I don't
03:33 I don't speak Kandarian so I think we might be okay but inside the book as you
03:37 can see what they've done is they've attached sort of a a craft like a
03:41 parchment paper on the inside book and it's also on the other side there also
03:44 as well and then flip flipping through the pages all written in blood you can
03:50 see like each of the individual pages do actually have detailing like just
03:53 exactly like it would be from the movie. Flipping through the pages, actually the
03:57 pages are a little harder to flip through just because again the way they've
04:00 frayed them it's not a completely flat page for example nor really should it be.
04:05 The way it obviously is depicted in the movie is that all the pages are sort of
04:08 kind of really mangled looking as they are flipping through it but if we were
04:13 to say flip through the pages I just want to show you some of the work that
04:15 they put into these fairly accurate from what at least we see of the book being
04:19 flipped through in Evil Dead 2. Just again you can see it there on the one
04:23 side there and then flip it around to the other side that's that's a page we
04:26 might want to just quickly flip through. The paper quality I will say is quite
04:31 good it's sort of more like a thicker cardboard but it still has a little bit
04:35 give it's like a cardstock paper I would say and sort of the coloring that they
04:39 went with is more like that craft color like it would be in the movie. Again on
04:42 the other side again we're kind of delving now into the deeper ends of
04:46 possession here there's an eyeball and a severed head. The book itself I feel is
04:51 quite well made. The only thing I will say though about the book is we just
04:55 kind of flip through the remaining pages of it this is kind of where we get to
04:58 more the end of the world sort of circumstances but like each of the pages
05:02 as you can see has just as much detail as the page before it. Again there's a
05:06 series of stacked skulls and there on the back there the Necronomicon. The
05:12 one of three Necronomicon as established a little bit later in the
05:16 lore but again like the book is well made the only thing I will say though is
05:20 like the book is in some pretty pristine quality which is actually a good thing
05:24 too because obviously if you're getting this book you'd hate to think it'd be
05:26 frayed or anything along those lines but now I have seen some individuals who have
05:31 picked the book up for themselves that have sort of bent the book or sort of
05:35 warped the book a little bit so it wasn't it because as it is right now
05:39 simply just because again it's brand new has been taken just out of the
05:42 packaging about half an hour to an hour ago the book is sort of more in a
05:45 pristine nature kind of like what you would expect with a leather bound binder
05:49 it you know again like everything is sort of well put together very flat on
05:53 the sides or a little bit slightly rounded on the sides but it doesn't have
05:56 sort of more the warped kind of disheveled look that the book would have
05:59 in the movie and I have seen some people actually sort of warp the pages warp the
06:03 actual spine of the book so it has a little more of a roughness to it I don't
06:06 know if necessarily I would maybe go that route because I think the book
06:09 looks fine as it is the one thing also that does concern me although the
06:14 weather conditions will of course permit how much humidity for example you have
06:18 in your collection room will always be the thing that sways the direction of
06:21 like leather or faux leather material bound things like costumes if you have
06:25 like six scale figures or even for the fact that this is also latex latex will
06:30 break down so of course the longer that you have like a book like this in your
06:33 collection there may be a little bit of like flaking or chipping I would imagine
06:37 that would happen down the road but a lot of that really honestly has to do as
06:40 well with the conditions of where you keep your collectibles if you have a
06:44 generally dry room you don't have like a lot of humidity where like like latex
06:48 can naturally start to break down like with masks and stuff that's one thing
06:51 that mask collectors are always really worried about is like the longevity of
06:55 their masks they want to make sure that that latex doesn't doesn't break down I
06:58 think like quality wise the book does look good I mean short of maybe again
07:02 just kind of warping the pages or maybe just sort of buckling a bit of the spine
07:06 in the front and the back of the cover so it looks a little bit more the way it
07:08 was in the movie like it's a really neat looking book and I think it's well for
07:13 the price trick-or-treats do is they've done a really great job of recreating
07:17 then the book of the dead the Necronomicon prop from of course Evil
07:21 Dead 2 - Dead by Dawn as I was saying earlier though the Necronomicon
07:25 Ex Mortis or loosely translated of course to the book of the dead is
07:29 currently available over on trick-or-treat studios website as of
07:32 right now it's a hundred and nineteen ninety nine for again a pretty well
07:35 bound book that looks like it did in the Evil Dead 2 film they have also not only
07:40 stocked over there the Necronomicon Ex Mortis but they also have the
07:44 Candarian dagger so if that would be a prop you'd like to get an ad to your
