00:00you want to talk about betrayal this guy would stab you in the back literally and
00:04figuratively here's your look at the NECA LJN Dungeons & Dragons 50th
00:09anniversary Zarak evil half-orc assassin
00:14the fantasy comes alive with Dungeons & Dragons poseable action figures
00:31authentically reproduced so you can recreate the battle between good and
00:35evil I wonder if this renegade is rocking the battle magic action probably
00:40not let's go though take the tape measure either way and figure out just
00:43how tall Zarak stands well I'm doing this as well like to thank the folks
00:46over at NECA toys that did provide this sample we could have a look at not
00:50owning though the original ultimate Zarak so I won't be able to bring him in
00:53for comparisons I can though most definitely bring in the other 50th
00:55anniversary advanced Dungeons & Dragons that we've already had a look at here
00:59the figure like I said is gonna be standing in this case about six inches
01:02in height if you count really the top of his hood and translating though to a
01:05figure that's about 15 centimeters tall of somewhat similar size here's what the
01:10figure looks like with the 50th anniversary Elkhorn bringing in then the
01:13other two figures we've also had a look at which I think completes the quartet
01:16here's also the strong heart and also the earlier looked at War Duke this
01:21half-orc is missing over a half of his accessories that would have been with
01:24the ultimate release he only comes included with his two pairs of daggers
01:28the daggers and the original release from LGN and Matchbox I think he would
01:32have had maybe one of these and they would have all been cast in yellow
01:34plastic they've kept the guard and the hilt in that same yellow plastic but
01:39have chosen instead to give it a little bit more modern silver spin the blades
01:43themselves can't be held in his hands because he actually does have more
01:45closed gripped hands so it's actually quite easy though to take the daggers
01:49and just fit them in there there's one obviously we're just gonna rinse and
01:54repeat the steps here's the other one over here and again you can have him
01:57wielding both let's just say you're the kind of collector that doesn't like to
02:01give sharp objects to tiny orcs like this I would agree with you as well you
02:05can what you can also do too is just remove those blades and take the daggers
02:09and locate it on the side there's two sheets and just sheath them there
02:13instead you don't have to make the noise though while you're putting them in
02:17apparently choose I would like to once the blades are though are in place he
02:22has no real other accessories to come included with the character now the
02:25ultimate release of him had the a little elixir it came in clue with a broad
02:29blade gold sword a hook with string and then come a come with a like a series of
02:35interchangeable hands I want to say he had like five extra interchangeable
02:38hands not including the ones he has right now so like I said though this is
02:42kind of based more on the original LGA and matchbox figure from the 80s the
02:45like I said the accessory count is is minimal it's you know if that was a lot
02:49for the ultimate release you're getting about that much now with the 50 fans in
02:53anniversary inspired characters what I'm gonna do though is I'm gonna remove the
02:57daggers not just because I like the idea of you know kind of unarming this
03:01character for at least right now but it's also gonna make things a little
03:03bit easier when it comes to kind of getting in there and kind of moving
03:05things around one thing to note too with the ultimate is that he also had two
03:10interchangeable head sculpts he had this one which I think was also the alternate
03:15head that was sitting inside the pack then he also had an alternate head
03:18sculpt which was just as ugly as this one right here he doesn't get any bit
03:21better not any prettier just by changing out the heads the hood I think is
03:25exactly the same too I mean in fact I think if I had the figure let's just say
03:28for using your imagination I had the character right here I mean that's just
03:32a hand I know it's just my hand but if I had the figure right here and I had
03:36this guy here I think if you look to this one and look to this one here they
03:39would be identical sculpts they would just have gone more the primary colors
03:43here with the LG and 50 and anniversary release of him the tall top color piece
03:47I think would have also remained the same the sheets would have stayed the
03:50same although they would have been done in black with the gold accents and then
03:53basically everything here in red would have been swapped out for brown instead
03:56other than that though like the head sculpt is really good on this guy he
04:00evokes for me some ideas of like the Green Goblin maybe it has a lot to do
04:05with the fact obviously he's got himself a green face I mean look at the look at
04:08the mug on this guy that's a face for radio but also to with the way that
04:12they've hooked the hood piece here does very much like look to me like a green
04:16Green Goblin kind of character this top piece by the way is separate so I would
04:21imagine if you were to detach the head this could probably come off completely
04:24he's got the right gloves gloves actually covered well here it matches
04:28the straps that he has on the fronts of his body of course he has the pack here
04:31on the side I think also with the ultimate release this would have been
04:34trimmed in red right along the bottom here where they instead went here with
04:37more just a traditional brown I think like with the original matchbox release
04:41of the character obviously like articulation would been right out the
04:45door five points of articulation really if you were lucky but like the colors
04:48are pretty close think though that the matchbox would have not had the pack on
04:52the side so that would been one thing I don't think that the original figure had
04:55maybe it did but overall like it's a nice-looking figure head to toe top to
04:59bottom as small as he may be look show you guys what he looks like also on the
05:02back as well he's got a couple of pockets there as well I'm not really
05:05sure like what you could store in those pockets where he'd be able to reach them
05:08he's got short little stumpy arms I mean how impossible would that be to reach
05:13around to the back if he's storing all of his coins and anything else that's
05:17valuable to him I would imagine that anybody could creep up onto the back of
05:20the assassin here and just take and steal away anything that's he's been
05:24storing on the back of his body not a good place I mean I'm not an assassin
05:28but I could tell you at least that that's probably not a good place to
05:31store anything valuable right there for the figures articulation though his head
05:36is actually funny though because like his head inside looks like it is a
05:40separate piece obviously to get in there and start to move things around be next
05:44to impossible so when you end up just moving the hood you're moving the face
05:46as well the heads gonna be on a ball joint so it does move up and down
05:49realistically if you had yourself the secondary head I would imagine you
05:53would probably have to pop the entire head off which we want to try to do just
05:58basically you'll pop the entire head off and then you would just take the hood
06:01off of this piece and then just swap it out with the alternate head sculpt pop
06:05the new one inside the hood pop it back down onto the neck bring actually up the
06:09neck a little bit more to gives him a little bit more freedom to move his head
06:12around so he can see from all sides even though like inside the hood I would
06:16imagine he's got a bit of a blinder can even see hey over here over here over
06:21here now I can't even see the upper torso though is gonna be on a bit of a
06:26ball joint not really much though because like his entire tunic is really
06:29all one piece it's soft plastic sure but I mean like what mobility actually has
06:34he does it more down below here you can't really move this separately does
06:38that make sense you can't move it here but you can move it down here the arms
06:41come out at I would say a comfortable T pose you can take the arms and move
06:44forward you can move them back certainly he has a swivel there at the top of the
06:48bicep and like with Elkhorn before he seems to also have two hinges for his
06:52joints at least in his elbows one here and if I get my finger out of the way
06:56one here as well so he does double bend there too he does have a little bit of a
07:01swivel there to the top of his glove not much though hands rotate all the way
07:04around a hinge back and forth legs split out you can take the legs move them back
07:09move forward move them back swivel the top of the thigh single hinge only on
07:13the knee but it's a little again tight on this figure ankle pivots move up and
07:17down ankle rockers move this way so he has pretty much the same levels of
07:21posability as the earlier looked at Elkhorn which if you're looking at your
07:25calendar and looking at the things of scheduled for this week at least you
07:29know I already looked at Elkhorn this week so we're kind of like doubling up
07:33the double Dungeons and Dragons trying to get that although doubling up
07:37Dungeons and Dragons throughout this week we looked at two LGN releases now
07:41of course completing the entire four I don't know if they have planned to
07:45release anymore maybe they have but of course we have looked at Strongheart
07:48Warduke now Zarak and Elkhorn unlike though Warduke and Elkhorn I never
07:54unfortunately had the chance to pick up the ultimate release of Strongheart or
07:57Zarak for that matter so this now gives me at least a chance to complete this
08:01version at least of Dungeons and Dragons I might still try to track down if I can
08:05get them for a fairly affordable price still try to get the good Paladin
08:09Strongheart and I might try to get myself the evil half-orc assassin Zarak
08:13they're nice enough figures that I don't mind double dipping especially
08:16considering there's such a contrast of colors not to mention different
08:20accessories that were packed between the two different variations of him
08:22probably could have paid a bit for me to research a little more into the daggers
08:26that Zarak wields then I would have known that they're tipped in poison well
08:30how much though of the daggers was I touching in this review oh my fingers
08:33are stirring this well where am I I'm just kidding or am I Zarak though wasn't
08:39a figure I had in the original Ultimates collection in fact the only two out of
08:43the four that I did end up picking up was Warduke and Elkhorn both are really
08:46fine-looking figures the thing I really like though about this line at least of
08:49the four that we've looked at is that they're simpler in paints but they still
08:53retain all the same sculpting and the same levels of articulation yeah when it
08:57comes to of course the accessories Zarak gets a little less of that he only gets
09:00those two poison darts oh my fingers are really swelling up I can't be good yeah
09:06well only having really the two daggers the ultimate release certainly could say
09:09he had a whole lot more I might still try to track one down just because again
09:13I really like the sculpting of this face he definitely though has a face for
09:16radio that is one ugly mug if you don't like this mug the ultimate would have
09:19had two of them but I like though again the simpler approach that is when it
09:22does certainly have more of a nostalgic vibe to it I really do like the look of
09:26these figures enough again for me to probably try to track down both
09:30Strongheart and Zarak so I at least can say I've collected all the 50th
09:33anniversary up to now at least the 50th anniversary LJN Dungeons and Dragons
09:37figures and ultimately also the ultimates that NECA had done before
09:41speaking of NECA though I'd like to thank the folks NECA that was right it
09:46was NECA I'd like to thank the folks over at just kidding with you guys I'd
09:51like to thank the folks over at NECA that did provide the sample of the LJN
09:54Dungeons and Dragons 50th anniversary Zarak that we had the chance to have a
