McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse Gold label Collection Cassandra Cain Batgirl Figure
Transcript
00:00 She may not speak but her fighting style speaks for itself. Here's a look at the
00:04 brand-new McFarlane toys DC multiverse the gold label collection Batgirl
00:08 Cassandra Cain.
00:11 Cassandra Cain debuted during the No Man's Land saga. She stalked earthquake
00:34 shattered Gotham City like a solitary silent ghost enforcing Batman's laws the
00:37 fourth Batgirl. Upon officially joining the Batman family her training was
00:41 in reading writing and social interaction not combat. When she learned
00:44 the world's greatest killer Lady Shiva was her mother.
00:47 Cassandra briefly led the League of Assassins before being legally adopted
00:51 by Bruce Wayne. Cassandra Cain has had herself quite the life born from the
00:55 greatest assassin adopted by the greatest detective and just before we
00:59 get a closer look the new Batgirl Cassandra Cain let me send a big thank
01:02 you if I can to the folks over at McFarlane toys that kindly provide the
01:05 sample that we can have a look at. Cassandra Cain's Batgirl stands at about
01:09 six and three-quarters of an inch in height or the figures 17 centimeters
01:13 tall. What's interesting about Cassandra Cain's Batgirl is that she's actually
01:18 using the top half the body from the Batgirl that we got from the three
01:21 Joker's line and yet though she's actually using the lower half of the
01:24 body from the Batgirl that comes from the build of Batmobile line. Remember
01:27 that line that we got from the earlier days of the DC multiverse? Funny though
01:31 that the figures are also using somewhat similar lower legs but she's also using
01:35 as well the back heel spurs on this Batgirl. She's also using as well the
01:38 same accessories. It's not all hand-me-downs though. The figure does at
01:42 least come in clear with a trading card that's unique to her. Featured on the
01:45 front of the card of course is Cassandra Cain's swing through the rooftops of
01:48 Gotham City and equally unique to her is the paragraph read on the back
01:51 describing the character. Now you could read this for yourself. I'm not gonna
01:55 stop you if you really want to. It also happens to be the same thing I read at
01:59 the beginning of the review so I sort of beat you to it. No no no need to thank me.
02:02 It's the least I could do. Let's move on to the side. The figure is well territory we've
02:07 covered countless times the DC printed logo stand with one neighboring peg off
02:12 to the side. You only get one of them. You only get one that can plug into either
02:15 one of Cain's boots. Move that also off to the side. Back to as well things that
02:19 we've covered off before. Maybe not recently but we did get ourselves a
02:23 Batarang like this. I'm just gonna bring in the Batarang that came included with
02:26 the one that from the Batgirl with the build of Batmobile. The colors though
02:30 aren't quite the same gold. I mean obviously looking at the two they're
02:33 identical to one another. I mean you kind of know which one goes with which figure
02:37 as this one matches closer to the coloring of her utility belt. They are
02:40 identical. They are still quite thick. Quite thick. It does fit into either one of
02:45 her hands. Not that there's a specific dedicated hand although if you look at
02:50 this side she does actually kind of have a finger sticking out that suits I think
02:53 a little bit better holding the grapple line. The grapple line unfortunately has
02:57 already misfired. It's propelled out the rope and this actually again is the same
03:01 one that we did get from the Batgirl. That exact same Batgirl. Both that one
03:05 came included with the grapple line and also came included with the same
03:07 Batarang. It gets just carried over again with the Cassandra Cain release. The
03:12 colors though are a little bit better. You can see like the rope for example is
03:15 a little bit shinier. The silvers are also a little bit nicer handled. Other
03:19 than that though speaking of the handles again you can take this because again
03:22 she has the benefit of gripping hands on both sides. See how this one hand by the
03:25 way does have a finger that's sticking out that's kind of just telling you
03:28 well maybe you should put the grapple gun on this side. I mean again I don't
03:32 want to push you in the direction of saying that you have to do it on that
03:34 side but you know again just following suit with just the finger and of course
03:38 you can then take yourself the Batarang and as big as it may be does fit
03:42 somewhat okay into her hands. I do wish kind of in a way that they could make
03:46 these Batarangs just a little bit smaller. I mean especially for female
03:50 figures I just think that weapons like this to be weld, wield, welded, wielded. I
03:55 just think that they're a little bit too big but you can see there that's what
03:58 she looks like with both the grapple line and the Batarang in her hands. Go
04:03 ahead and remove these right now. We're gonna probably come back to those I'm
04:05 sure when we get to the end of this review. Let's put those off to the side.
04:08 Getting a closer look now at Cassandra Cain's Batgirl. Again sort of a
04:11 modge-podge of Frankenstein monster version of two characters that have now
04:16 come together. I mean both of them were still clearly Batgirls. I mean if you
04:19 were looking at the two while the head sculpts are clearly different between
04:22 the two. Same top torso being used so of course it has the same emblem they've
04:26 just nicely outlined it here differently done in gold where the original one
04:30 would have been all done in yellow. The utility belt though down below is
04:33 very different between the two so we have to then vacate this Batgirl and we
04:38 have to then bring back in the Batgirl from the build of Batmobile and you
04:41 can see that while the top of the torso isn't quite the same the lower half of
04:45 the body especially utility belt is in fact identical. Something that's also as
04:50 well if you look at the back of the boots the back of the boots also have
04:53 those little spurs on the backs of their feet. The Batgirl from the Three
04:56 Jokers while having similar tops of her boots didn't actually have the spurs on
05:01 the backs of her feet so there were a little bit of tooling done and again
05:04 they were just literally used the lower half of the body from this original
05:07 Batgirl complete with the spurs down below there as well. Couldn't help but of
05:11 course point out the very obvious points of this Batgirl is not only the fact
05:14 that she does have the stitched up face you don't see a mouth this time around
05:18 nor do you see eyes. It's a really interesting idea behind this Batgirl.
05:21 Unfortunately she didn't have the longevity of say Barbara Gordon but
05:25 Cassandra Cain's Batgirl was really interesting at the time that she did
05:28 appear in the comics. At one point there was also a Mattel multiverse I think
05:33 was a DC superheroes Batgirl. It's one of my favorites. I don't still
05:36 unfortunately have that figure. Really wish that I still did. The other thing
05:40 that's also very different about this figure not only is the face but also as
05:43 well that now this one is sporting a real fabric cape. It's a departure
05:47 obviously from earlier Batgirls and really most of the figures tend to have
05:50 plastic capes. So if you do kind of like the consistency I'm kind of a bit of a
05:55 collector myself that prefers the kind of consistent of having all the
05:58 characters kind of look the same. If they're all kind of starting with
06:01 plastic capes I kind of like to continue the trend of having plastic capes but I
06:05 gotta say like the fabric looks really good and I think it's been nicely done.
06:08 It's a wireframe so unfortunately like on the back it's pretty clean and it
06:12 does give you a pretty wide stance a pretty wide separation wide fanning
06:19 that's what the word I was looking for wide fanning. Unfortunately though while
06:23 it looks very clean on the back on the inside you can very much clearly see
06:27 this the part that they've stitched in the wireframe. The wireframe sticks
06:31 pretty far out as well so it doesn't look the cleanest when you see the
06:34 inside of the cape. I mean if only be a way that they could have actually flipped
06:38 it around but then you'd only only really see the seaming of the line or
06:42 the seaming where they put the the wireframe. You'd only see it on the back
06:45 instead. I mean overlooking just that one problem the cape actually flows
06:49 really nicely and because the wireframe seems to be a really thick frame too it
06:53 means that you can really get some good bends in these depending on exactly how
06:56 you want to have the figure displayed. Material is good I mean if you were to
06:59 look at the material on the back it's kind of more of a smoother finish on the
07:02 inside on the front it actually has a little bit more of a texturing I don't
07:05 know if the camera is actually able to pick that up or not but yeah the body is
07:08 gonna be exactly the same the colors are really nice I mean for what little
07:11 colors we obviously get there's a bit of a departure when you see like the colors
07:15 at the top of the torso are much more of a shinier black than the lower half of
07:19 Cassandra's body where kind of goes more the route of more of a like a matte
07:23 black plastic. The gold looks really good unfortunately though like if you were to
07:27 say look at the utility belt and then you go back to the source material
07:30 utility belt isn't quite matching 100% not that really either one of the
07:34 back girls would have I mean if they had to pull the molds from either of those
07:37 back girls not that the original one would have been any good either because
07:40 the original back girl just bringing her back in right now would have had tiny
07:43 little capsules tiny little capsules you need this meet somewhere in the middle
07:48 the pockets work okay but then they should have maybe used a more again like
07:52 just a rectangular sort of belt buckle on the front instead of the larger bat
07:56 symbol that she has carried over from that other back girl other than that
07:59 though I mean the colors are really nicely done the paint is pretty good
08:02 there's a few little areas where the gold bleeds on to the back of her behind
08:06 of that though I mean there's not really a lot of opportunities here where there's
08:09 paint problems and the paint around the insignia for example is again well
08:14 painted but it really is just the symbol it's just a utility belt is the only
08:18 parts really on the figure that are actually painted unless they went back
08:21 and painted the torso I don't think that's the case though for the figures
08:24 articulation though I'm gonna go back to once again her head sculpt I feel the
08:28 chance to give you guys the chance enough to show you guys what the head
08:31 sculpt looks like I really like the little outlining of the ears they've
08:34 done on the side the stitching on the front of the face kind of reminds me of
08:36 the Batman Returns a cat woman I don't know if maybe they got some influence
08:40 from that really nice looking head sculpt I mean yes they probably could
08:43 have added a little bit of paint I mean again just to bring back in the card
08:47 here for example I mean Cassandra Cain's costume was all black anyways maybe they
08:51 probably could have added just a little bit of blue but I know that's so close
08:54 and then all of a sudden you start to ruin the figure and then you think man
08:57 they probably should have pulled back a little bit on the paint probably just
09:00 leaving it the black was probably the better idea because the natural light
09:03 would just shine on area those on those areas of the sculpting anyways I don't
09:07 think necessarily they had to go really in there and start to paint anything on
09:10 it again going to the figures articulation the head sculpt is going to
09:13 be on a ball joint so it does rotate all the way around it looks up pretty good
09:16 actually and it looks down a lot better in fact and actually you can also move
09:20 it back and forth as well arms like the other Batgirls easily come out beyond
09:24 the point of 90 degrees she also has a little socket joint there on the inside
09:28 it's actually more just there to conceal the joint the arms do move in and out
09:31 just a little bit she has a swivel at the bicep bring those arms down that's a
09:35 swivel in the bicep the figure does also have a double hinge on the elbow and
09:38 hands rotate all the way around upper torso is gonna be on a ball joint the
09:42 lower torso is also on a ball joint legs split out on a ratchet joint you can
09:47 take the legs and move forward yeah you can move them back as well and sure why
09:50 not you can swivel at the top of the thigh as well double hinge on the knee
09:54 nice tight joints by the way and everything that's on Cassandra I was
09:57 worried that maybe like with the molds being used the times that they have
10:00 already that maybe like joints would be a little bit more on the looser side but
10:04 like no biceps are good elbows are good thighs seem okay and these are all again
10:09 also nice super tight again she also has the articulation down below here for the
10:13 ankles in rock and back and forth and finally Cassandra Kane if you would
10:17 believe it believe it obviously we're kind of getting toe articulation with
10:21 most of these figures she does also have the little toe bend there as well nice
10:25 looking figure you know again I'm not sure really where I sit when it comes to
10:28 cloth capes the cloth cape does make the figure look nicer but again if you want
10:33 one if you're a collector like myself that really kind of likes the
10:36 consistency of having plastic capes for all the figures again bring in the other
10:39 Batgirls here you know again like to have plastic plastic and then also in
10:43 the middle you've got yourself a departure with the fabric cape it looks
10:46 a little different it looks a little different but it does make for a nice
10:49 looking figure even though again like she's using the top half here she's
10:52 using the lower half here and then she's also using as well the accessories for
10:56 the build the Batmobile Batgirl I still like the fact that we finally did get
11:00 ourselves a Cassandra Kane Batgirl going back to even in like reading the earlier
11:04 comics with Cassandra Kane I might even still have a couple of those comics my
11:07 collection and also as well like the original DC superheroes Mattel release
11:11 of Cassandra Kane Batgirl one of my favorites one of my favorites I had at
11:14 1.1 sealed I sold it I don't know why and I can't even say either for stupid
11:19 money either I just probably sold it for what it was asking for I probably should
11:23 have just held on to that Cassandra Kane if I did had I still had that figure I
11:26 would have then been able to bring her in and you guys could would have been
11:29 able to see the difference but I do like this one I mean you know again like the
11:32 colors of again are just very muted in black I mean very little in the way of
11:36 paint had to be really required she's a Frankenstein Modge Podge of having
11:40 essentially two Batgirls taking those two molds and kind of making one figure
11:44 out of it and then giving her a cloth cape the end result is actually a good
11:47 looking Cassandra Kane if you get the chance to grab one for yourself seizing
11:50 an opportunity when it presents itself and hey because we can never really do
11:53 this with the DC multiverse figure anyways I've got Cassandra Kane display
11:56 with the fanned out fabric cape looks really good it will unfortunately
11:59 disrupt some of your regular shelf space figures because most of the figures that
12:03 we've gotten from DC multiverse figures all the DC multiverse figures tend to
12:06 usually have plastic capes that now it comes along here Cassandra Kane you're
12:09 gonna be putting her on the shelf she is gonna look a little out of place and
12:13 maybe that's a good thing too I don't know if I would say necessarily they
12:16 need to switch completely over to the idea of fabric capes plastic capes
12:19 always mold really nicely on the back of the figures and again because we have so
12:22 many already of DC multiverse with plastic capes no sense to change up the
12:26 format up for format now but maybe what they could always do is maybe keep it on
12:30 a character to character basis what may work really well for Cassandra Kane may
12:34 not just work for just some random Superman if you're wanting to put fabric
12:38 capes on a Superman they can always do that with the DC superpowers line but
12:41 maybe yeah again keeping it only to certain characters and maybe also as
12:45 well relegate it only to the gold label collection where it becomes just
12:48 something different even more of a reason in fact I want to pick up a
12:52 figure if you didn't already have a reason before I had already a big reason
12:56 to want to pick up the Cassandra Kane being a big fan of the character growing
12:58 up now of course the characters using of course pillaging parts from two
13:02 different back girls the end result is a nice-looking back girl not much in the
13:06 way of pains because of course she's only really having it in the utility
13:08 belt and the outlining of the gold around her insignia but still it's a
13:12 nice-looking Cassandra and maybe you never know I mean maybe the fabric cape
13:15 helps to just kind of jazz up a character that maybe wouldn't have
13:18 worked as interesting or looked as interesting if she had only just been
13:22 kept with a plastic cape where you guys feel when it comes to plastic capes
13:25 versus fabric capes do you feel like Tom and his team should probably switch more
13:29 to the idea of using fabric capes moving forward or because again like we have
13:32 already so many plastic capes do you think they should just keep the plastic
13:36 capes and maybe every once in a while just kind of give a treat to the
13:39 collectors out there by giving us characters like Cassandra Kane sporting
13:42 a fabric cape for something different what do you guys think let me know in the
13:46 meantime though a big thank you to the folks over at McFarland toys that did
13:48 provide the sample of the gold label collection Cassandra Kane back girl that
13:52 we had the chance to have a look at this review if you guys did enjoy this video

14:13 gonna be doing more DC multiverse review that's a silly question I got a whole in
14:18 fact stack of them over off to the side here that we will be looking at in
14:21 upcoming reviews if you need your fix though in the meantime popping up at
14:25 the very end of this video will as well would be a playlist of other DC
14:28 multiverse reviews and Todd McFarlane's McFarlane toys reviews that have also
