00:00 The first time I met him, his soul was broken.
00:03 He looked so sad.
00:04 [HORSE NEIGHING]
00:06 We're Jackie and Brad, and this is Milo's story for GeoMeets.
00:09 He was in training at the track to become a race dog,
00:12 and that's when his injury happened.
00:14 They said his leg got accidentally caught in the door.
00:17 The racetrack surrendered him to the vet's office.
00:20 We got a phone call from the vet's office,
00:22 and they asked if we were interested in fostering
00:24 a greyhound that had just been brought in.
00:26 What you doing, buddy?
00:28 We got him at 18 months.
00:29 Are you ready?
00:31 OK, let's go.
00:32 Typically, when greyhounds go for adoption,
00:34 their racing career is ended when
00:36 they're three or four years old.
00:39 So he was still a puppy.
00:40 He absolutely loves running on the beach.
00:46 Go see Mommy.
00:55 The leg is fine.
00:56 He's adapted well.
00:58 [HORSE NEIGHING]
01:01 When he's on the beach running and playing,
01:04 he's on all four.
01:06 But as soon as we get on a harder surface like the road,
01:09 or if any time he gets nervous, he picks his leg up.
01:12 He was definitely scared of men.
01:13 Once we brought him home, it was months
01:15 before he warmed up to Brad.
01:18 Come on.
01:19 At the beginning, I was very adamant
01:21 that we were just going to foster,
01:22 because we had plans to move on the sailboat.
01:25 But apparently, everyone around us
01:27 knew there was no way we were only going to foster.
01:30 What's up, buddy?
01:32 What's up?
01:33 After probably about six or seven months,
01:35 the rescue group reached out.
01:36 And I'm like, oh, we're keeping him.
01:40 We live full time on the boat.
01:41 We left Miami a year and a half ago.
01:44 We sold our house and cars, everything.
01:46 Ready to go?
01:46 Are you ready?
01:47 He loves going to the water.
01:49 It's fun to watch.
01:50 We let him have a little bit more freedom.
01:52 We let him off the leash a lot.
01:53 We know he's going to come back.
01:55 If we walk him on the road, obviously,
01:57 we would have a leash.
01:59 When he's digging, I'll say, dig, dig, dig.
02:01 And he just keeps going faster and faster and faster.
02:04 He knows it's a game.
02:07 When he comes back, he gets a little bath.
02:09 He gets rinsed with fresh water.
02:10 And then he just crashes right back to sleep.
02:15 He's goofy, but he's apprehensive.
02:17 Ooh.
02:17 The squeaky toys are unpredictable.
02:22 Same with kids.
02:23 They are unpredictable.
02:24 He doesn't know what to do, so he keeps his distance.
02:27 He doesn't like a big crowd, so he'll
02:28 be a little bit subdued and passive
02:30 in that kind of situation, even though it is hard living
02:33 on a boat with a dog.
02:34 A lot of hoops to jump through when we
02:36 go through different countries.
02:37 I couldn't imagine doing it without him now.
02:41 Cheese?
02:41 On a rough day, he's not liking that.
02:46 We're not liking that.
02:47 But the rest of the time, he's living a good life.
02:49 When I look into his eyes, I can see how happy he is.
02:52 He got sand all over you.
02:53 I wonder why.
02:54 It's good that we can give him a better life
02:56 than he could have had.
