00:00 Raph is completely or partially deaf, and we do believe he has visual impairments.
00:05 [Raph whining]
00:08 He was a stray, and we got him when he was about two.
00:11 He never came with a microchip, and we don't know how long he was out there.
00:14 When he first arrived, he was very shy and very scared.
00:17 Once I got in the field and sat down with him, he warmed up, and he was wagging his tail.
00:21 [Raph whining]
00:24 [Raph panting]
00:29 [Raph panting]
00:32 He is the funniest dog ever.
00:34 He loves to just be near his people.
00:36 He might talk back even though he can't hear.
00:38 He'll, like, see you, like, talking to him, and he's like, "Hello!"
00:41 And it's very cute.
00:42 He is super dog-friendly. He loves being with his friends.
00:45 He adores other dogs, and he just wants to run around and wrestle and play, and it's super cute.
00:50 And another thing that he loves is the kiddie pool.
00:53 He'll, like, go in the kiddie pool and, like, get zoomies in it,
00:55 and then run away and come back and, like, splash around, and it's super, super sweet.
00:58 [Raph panting]
01:03 You can see, like, when he really trusts you, he'll look at you.
01:05 He'll want to be next to you. He just wants to be with you.
01:08 [Raph whining]
01:11 When he's alone, he tends to be a little dramatic.
01:13 His bark is surprisingly normal.
01:15 It's his scream that's a little off.
01:17 [Raph whining]
01:19 When he first arrived, we had to figure out the best way to communicate with him,
01:22 and we weren't 100% sure.
01:24 Every deaf dog is different, so we had to figure out what worked best for him.
01:27 And after we figured out some visual cues that he was able to work with,
01:30 we had to figure out how to get him to play properly,
01:32 understand dog cues and their play styles.
01:35 [Raph whining]
01:38 His name just suits him for his personality.
01:40 He'd walk towards him, and he'd bounce it,
01:42 and then he, like, runs away really quick, and he comes back.
01:44 [Raph panting]
01:46 Hey.
01:47 He has, like, one blue eye and one brown eye,
01:49 and at a distance, it seems like he can't really see that well unless he's up close.
01:54 Even though he can't hear our words, we hope he feels the love that we have for him.
01:58 [Raph whining]
02:01 [Raph laughing]
02:03 He shows us every day that actions are greater than words,
02:05 and he brings us so much joy and amusement with his unique personality.
02:08 His difference does not diminish him.
02:10 In fact, it makes him stand out,
02:12 and he never ceases to amaze us with what he can do with bark.
02:14 [Raph whining]
02:16 He has been in the shelter for 10 years, and he hasn't had many applications,
02:19 and we believe this is due to his disability.
02:21 [Raph whining]
02:23 He has some toys in his kennel, and he has a little blanket on his bed,
02:26 and sometimes we'll just go in and sit with him so he has some company.
02:29 And he'll just grab a toy, and he'll go nest on his bed,
02:31 and he'll just chew on his toy while we're sitting in there with him.
02:34 [Raph whining]
02:36 [Raph whining]
02:38 [Raph whining]
02:40 [Raph whining]
02:43 When you come up to his kennel, even if you have treats or not,
02:45 he just sits and waits for you to go get him out.
02:48 [Raph whining]
02:50 [Raph whining]
02:52 [♪♪♪]
02:58 When I see him, I'm like, "Oh, my God, he's so cute."
03:00 And then you think about it, and he's been here two years.
03:02 All he knows is his kennel, and he's never been in a home with people.
03:06 He doesn't truly know what it means to be in a home with someone who loves him so much.
03:10 And it's just sad.
03:12 [♪♪♪]
03:16 [♪♪♪]
