This is the laboratory
that Beagle Freedom Project closed down.
The majority of the testing
that they did was
for flea and tick medication.

00:00 She was born at the laboratory. She had never ever been free.
00:04 And she was very, very pregnant. She was really, really scared.
00:07 I'm Shannon from Beagle Freedom Project, and this is Rose's story for GOP.
00:11 We rescue animals from animal testing.
00:14 Since we started in December of 2010, we've rescued over 3,000 animals.
00:18 Rose was rescued from an animal testing laboratory where she was born.
00:23 This is the laboratory that Beagle Freedom Project closed down.
00:26 The majority of the testing that they did was for flea and tick medication.
00:29 Hi baby.
00:30 Rose, we noticed right away, was pregnant.
00:32 And I could tell she had been used over and over.
00:35 We're going to go home and go sleepy, okay?
00:37 I'm guessing she's about eight years old.
00:39 What are we going to do with you?
00:41 When are you going to have your babies?
00:44 When are we going to have our babies? I want to see who they are.
00:48 There was something about Rose that spoke to me, where my heart just melted.
00:54 And I knew that we needed to be together.
00:56 I want to see those nose.
00:58 She had never had a toy or a treat or a cuddle or a bed.
01:02 Oh my gosh.
01:03 Yeah.
01:04 Oh my gosh, baby.
01:06 Give me a rose.
01:08 She crawls because she's scared, but she wants the love.
01:11 It's okay.
01:12 I like to call them newborns in adult bodies because they never had anything.
01:16 They don't know anything.
01:17 You're not alone through this.
01:21 You're not alone.
01:25 I have toys all around my house for my dogs and baskets of toys.
01:29 And I didn't think that she would even want one.
01:31 You're going to be okay.
01:32 And then one day I see her go into the toy basket, and she grabbed out this little squeaky toy.
01:38 And she threw it in the air and she started squeaking it.
01:40 And she started running around the house nonstop with this squeaky toy.
01:44 And it was like the moment of joy on her face was like the best thing I've ever seen in my life.
01:49 I love you.
01:50 She's taken all the toys out of this one basket and set up in the guest room for her puppies.
01:55 Rose gave birth to seven healthy puppies, four boys and three girls.
02:07 And they're all doing very well.
02:09 Rose is so attentive to her puppies.
02:17 I've actually never seen a dog this attentive.
02:20 I can definitely tell that she is being protective because she probably never had this luxury of being able to be in a safe space with her babies.
02:30 We know that she had at least one litter because there's a record of that litter from the laboratory.
02:40 They're so big.
02:43 Because all you've been doing is feeding them and you've been doing such a good job.
02:47 She is always licking them, cleaning them constantly, and she's constantly feeding them.
02:52 They're just a little over a week old and they're big and fat and healthy.
03:01 Thank goodness. She's doing a good job.
03:03 There you go.
