00:00 Hello everyone, Manny San Martin here with The Factory at IBS New York.
00:04 And since I'm a Nioxin artist, I'm going to demonstrate how to make a haircut look a lot
00:07 fuller by cutting a strong line and then doing a little bit of layering afterwards.
00:11 And it's going to give the hair a more fuller effect.
00:15 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:44 It's very important to maintain the line intact as you start to layer the interior.
00:49 So one of the areas that you have to really protect is the hair right above the ear, which
00:53 is the highest part of the hairline.
00:55 So in order to start your layers back here, a really good way to avoid cutting a hole
01:00 is to make sure that your layers are not shorter than the length of the hair right above the
01:05 ear.
01:06 So when I start my layers, I'm going to start to layer from above that level, and the hair's
01:11 going to be just a little bit longer than that.
01:12 So by the time I get to here, most of this hair will drop out.
01:16 [MUSIC PLAYING]
01:46 All right.
02:13 So by layering and allowing for that outline to drop out, I'm able to create a little bit
02:19 more movement and a little bit more of a fuller silhouette while maintaining the outline completely
02:24 intact.
02:25 I'm going to repeat this on the other side now.
02:29 So to begin the top, I'm going to take a horizontal section and cross-check the layering below,
02:36 which is going to give me a flat line, which now I'm going to use this line.
02:41 And this is going to become the guideline, which I'm going to add sections onto it and
02:47 pull them back, making the front longer.
02:50 [MUSIC PLAYING]
03:20 In a situation like this where all the sections are going back to the same stationary guideline,
03:25 sometimes it's very difficult to see your guide through all those sections of hair.
03:29 So something that I do is I'll take my section, and I'll elevate and over-direct back towards
03:35 the point of origin.
03:38 And if I can't see my guide clearly, sometimes what I'll do is I'll flip the hair over to
03:44 make sure I have a nice, clean, visible guideline.
03:45 [MUSIC PLAYING]
03:45 To cross-check your work, I took a series of vertical sections from back to front.
04:05 I'm going to now take one horizontal section, and it should tell me, in fact, whether or
04:10 not I'm getting longer towards the front, which is my goal.
04:14 [MUSIC PLAYING]
04:28 So this is getting longer towards the front due to the over-direction back.
04:34 So I repeated the process on the other side, same thing.
04:36 Brought everything back using the guideline from below.
04:40 And that's going to create a longer length towards the front, which should be symmetrical,
04:44 and also maintaining the outline length.
04:49 Next step now is to give her a really nice blow-dry using a lot of root lift with a Denman
04:54 brush or Denman type brush, and allowing for the roots to expand, and not necessarily relying
05:00 on a flat iron, which is going to make the hair appear flatter, which will defeat the
05:03 purpose of the haircut.
05:04 All right.
05:06 So as you can see, just giving the hair a little bit more movement in the interior,
05:11 maintaining a nice, solid perimeter, which is going to strengthen the hair and make it
05:14 look denser, which is what a lot of people need, and also just gives it a fuller silhouette.
05:20 So once again, creating a strong outline, using the length of the outline to determine
05:26 the length of the internal layers and everything falling into proportion, over-direction the
05:30 hair back to maintain a little bit more length towards the front and keep this outline intact.
05:35 Hope you guys enjoyed it.
05:36 It's been a pleasure.
05:37 Thank you so much.
