00:00 - Next.
00:00 (speaking in foreign language)
00:06 - Hello everyone.
00:13 We're still not quite sure.
00:15 By the way, this is Mike Harg speaking here
00:17 direct from Zurich, Switzerland.
00:19 It's two o'clock in the afternoon.
00:21 So just before 8 a.m. in New York
00:24 and just before 5 a.m. for all the early riser
00:28 on the West Coast, Los Angeles.
00:30 We're doing a Facebook Live,
00:34 so we're never really sure if it's on.
00:35 If it's not on, it sometimes reconnects.
00:37 So I apologize already if it does disconnect.
00:41 We're always trying to do our best.
00:43 Here very quickly, I'm not too sure
00:45 if you can see the title on what I'm about to do,
00:48 but what I'm presenting you today
00:50 is a fresh new outlook on a summer bob.
00:56 So like cutting a bob, having fun,
00:59 and I'm doing this all with the Karkshire KT, KM,
01:03 and KB Slide Slim.
01:06 Freehand graduation, a lot of freehand work,
01:10 so with no further ado, I'm just gonna get going.
01:13 Okay?
01:14 And so we're trying to also use the camera
01:16 as good as we can.
01:17 So let's get going here.
01:19 All right, first off, I'm gonna start here the haircut
01:23 with the KT Slide Royale.
01:26 So what I'm doing here, let's have a look here
01:29 at our model, at the great hair.
01:31 As you can see here, his haircut was,
01:35 the last haircut was here at mid-March.
01:38 So it grew out fantastically nice.
01:40 It was, I'm kind of approaching it the same way
01:43 as I've done it a few months back,
01:46 and it's with the freehand graduation.
01:48 So what will happen here, as you can see,
01:50 it kind of also, a little similar to like what a razor,
01:53 like a razor haircut will grow out.
01:55 So you have like bits and pieces,
01:56 but like really light at the ends.
01:58 And through the freehand graduation,
02:00 below the occipital bone,
02:02 you'll almost get a little bit shorter than the top layer.
02:05 So again, it's also, that actually adds that funness to it,
02:09 plus it also will guarantee actually
02:11 that the haircut grows out great, nice.
02:13 Okay, using my Rekhar comb, 15-25,
02:17 my favorite from the left to the right, the same distance,
02:20 the one with the big hook for better parts,
02:23 and the KT Slide Royale, I'm cutting it on the dry hair.
02:26 The hair has just been washed, naturally dried,
02:29 like she always does.
02:31 And I'm gonna start off by cutting the actual length,
02:36 which is kind of like clean up here, the perimeter.
02:38 And I'm actually gonna go sideways now.
02:41 If I'm actually here at the salon,
02:42 I stand behind the person I cut below my hand.
02:45 But at this point here,
02:46 I'm just combing the hair straight down.
02:48 And so just that you see it a little bit better,
02:51 and I'm going over the same section a few times.
02:54 And as you can see here,
02:55 I'm using my Korg Shear KT Slide Royale,
02:58 which again is a texturizing shear
03:02 with the sliding technology.
03:04 But by using the shear as well,
03:07 by just going over the same section a few times,
03:10 you can actually create a straight line.
03:13 And as I said, all on dry hair, of course.
03:17 All right, so we're just kind of cleaning up here.
03:20 I'm gonna stand here behind her now.
03:22 It's just a little bit easier.
03:24 But he kind of got the message,
03:26 just combing everything straight down,
03:28 and cut below my,
03:30 cut below the hair,
03:35 but I press the hair against the skin
03:37 with the back of my hands,
03:39 and cut below it straight through.
03:42 Opening and closing the shear a couple of times,
03:44 and you can actually therefore create a straight line.
03:47 All the hair from the side,
03:48 I'm just for now bringing backwards.
03:51 So we're ensuring that we're not gonna cut it
03:53 too short in the front.
03:55 And you know, you can even have a little bit
03:57 of like an A-line drop, just a slight one,
04:00 which is kind of like adds a little bit of possess to it.
04:03 And the same thing, of course, as well,
04:06 here over on the other side.
04:08 I'm just gonna comb back the hair too.
04:11 All this hair here, as you can see,
04:14 this is all natural hair.
04:16 So the hair color really grows in beautifully.
04:18 We have at the very front of the hair
04:21 some really lighter streaks,
04:23 which I'm gonna show you later.
04:24 And so there is no color on that hair.
04:27 That's just all natural hair.
04:30 Okay, so just kind of here,
04:31 still creating the straight line.
04:34 And as you can see now,
04:35 by just like even keep leaving the hair this way,
04:38 I mean, that would completely work, you know?
04:40 Eliminate, you know, the hair is still light enough
04:42 from the previous haircut from March.
04:44 So now we're actually gonna emphasize this.
04:46 So I'm just gonna take the little hair here
04:49 off the neck, you can see this is here.
04:52 That's the problem.
04:53 Okay, so.
04:54 So, fantastic.
04:57 Excellent.
04:58 Turn her a little bit this way again.
05:01 Can you see it well?
05:03 Okay, great, she's enjoying here.
05:04 So here I'm gonna use my Corkshear KT Slide Royale.
05:09 Hold on, excellent.
05:12 Just gonna get this few hair here off,
05:15 right here on the neck.
05:16 Rest a few hair.
05:18 So, perfect, and now we can start here
05:21 by eliminating all that weight.
05:26 And as you can see here,
05:28 my model here is standing.
05:33 And that's also how I approach hair in the salon.
05:36 I always have the people stand up.
05:38 So I have everything on my eye level.
05:40 Really works out well,
05:41 especially if you have a one length bob.
05:43 Okay, so let's start here by going in.
05:47 I'm going pretty straight in here to the hair.
05:50 And as you can see here,
05:51 I'm just eliminating this bulk here
05:54 and add that certain possess.
05:56 Okay, throughout the hair ends here.
05:59 So, there you go.
06:01 And as you can see now here,
06:02 as I work to the front,
06:04 I'm just combing the hair straight back
06:07 and I'm cutting straight into it
06:09 and eliminating that weight.
06:13 Okay, and add all that movement
06:16 and eliminating, especially make it light ends
06:20 so the ends can move really nicely.
06:23 Okay, here I'm combing up behind the ear.
06:26 As well, just cutting straight in,
06:32 just like this.
06:34 There we go.
06:39 That's how you can make it skinnier, the hair.
06:43 Okay, and I'm going to show you the difference right now
06:46 by even combing the hair back
06:48 and you be the judge.
06:50 Okay, and again, I've only worked on this now here
06:54 for two, three minutes.
06:56 But here, so, I'm even combing the hair back.
07:06 So, let's look at this.
07:09 Can you see the difference here?
07:11 The one on the right, how nice and flat it is?
07:16 And it nicely lays in, as you can see here.
07:20 And then here, this is the side,
07:21 the left, we still have to create.
07:23 Okay, but there you see the beautiful difference,
07:26 how it just simply eliminated the weight.
07:28 And why can we do this with a texturizing shear?
07:31 Well, this is the claim to fame.
07:34 This is our texturizing shear
07:36 and our finishing on the blade here
07:39 has a very different finishing on the actual cutting blade.
07:43 So, that's why it lets me slide.
07:45 And this is one of a kind.
07:47 Shears like this, being manufactured,
07:50 just really makes cutting dry hair much easier,
07:53 also more fun.
07:54 It actually gives you more security
07:56 by manipulating the hair, eliminating the weight.
08:00 So, let's do this as well on the other side.
08:02 And here I'm right-handed.
08:05 I put the, excuse me, I put the left hand below the right
08:09 and I'm just like eliminating therefore here the weight.
08:13 And what's really important is if you cut dry hair,
08:18 freehand like that, because you're basically now
08:21 creating a freehand graduation,
08:23 is you have to move that hair around.
08:26 Don't get carried away and keep cutting.
08:29 You've gotta move that hair around
08:32 so you can eliminate that bulk.
08:37 And you also wanna ensure that you keep the balance
08:39 because you wanna make sure you're keeping,
08:41 you eliminate the same amount on the left
08:43 as also on the right.
08:45 And that's why it's utmost important
08:47 to keep on moving that hair,
08:50 to stick your fingers in it, run your finger through
08:53 and move it around so it folds nicely
08:55 so we can really sculpt it super nice.
08:59 Okay.
09:00 Same thing here on the side now.
09:07 Just go in, eliminate that bulk, make it less hair.
09:13 All the way from the side.
09:19 There we go.
09:20 (scissors snipping)
09:23 Thanks for everybody tuning in directly.
09:39 Hello.
09:41 Awesome.
09:47 By the way, you can buy all these shears
09:52 that you see here in action on my website,
09:55 mikekark.com.
09:58 And we also have more stuff on YouTube.
10:02 You can sign up for free, subscribe for free.
10:07 We're trying to upload like every other month a new clip.
10:15 And as well to do some Facebook Live broadcast.
10:19 It's always all on dry hair,
10:21 unless it's somebody else from my team presenting something.
10:27 So here, as you can see here,
10:30 it's already shaping up nicely.
10:32 And the great thing about it is,
10:35 when you do this freehand graduation,
10:37 is that you get the hair below the occipital bone
10:44 a dab shorter, almost,
10:46 and then have the top layer kind of hanging over.
10:49 And that adds again, much more of like a thumb factor
10:54 on that actual bob.
11:00 You know, call it a modern bob, or something like that.
11:05 And you know, not to worry about,
11:13 you can't hurt anyone because we have a flat tip.
11:16 So you can really well here, freehand the entire perimeter.
11:21 And that's just a really great way to eliminate weight.
11:27 I also think you can do much less damage on the hair
11:34 by using a texturizing shear and eliminate the weight
11:39 versus overusing a thinner blender or a razor, okay?
11:44 Also, I work in seven salons across the US.
11:50 I have never had anybody sit down in my chair
11:55 saying they don't want a haircut
11:58 by eliminating weight with a texturizing shear.
12:02 But I've had people say,
12:04 I actually don't want to have my hair cut with a razor.
12:07 So I think you can do much more damage on that.
12:12 So this is really something super safe,
12:15 having the texturizing shear with the sliding technology.
12:20 And I would highly motivate every hairstylist out there
12:25 just to try it out.
12:28 I am not, I'm not a person that says
12:32 this is the only way there is,
12:35 but I think it's a nice repertoire to have.
12:38 And by cutting dry hair,
12:40 you see the hair, how it's worn naturally.
12:45 No surprises, no shrinking.
12:48 I never cut hair too short.
12:49 How great is that?
12:50 Okay, and for all the ones that are just about
12:54 to start in cutting dry hair,
12:56 you're more than welcome, you know,
12:59 to cut the outline wet, moist, you know,
13:02 dry it off and then personalize it,
13:04 give it, you know, the finishing touches
13:07 when the hair is dry.
13:10 You know, eliminate bulk and whatnot.
13:12 Okay, so.
13:15 It's like sculpting, you know, really cool.
13:22 It's also another way for beginners,
13:24 for all the beginners, you know,
13:25 it's utmost important to work,
13:28 to learn the fundamentals,
13:30 the basic on cutting hair, on wet hair.
13:33 Don't do it on dry hair.
13:35 But certainly, the dry hair cutting
13:37 and the freehand cutting is for people
13:39 who have been doing it for quite some time,
13:42 who also want to challenge themselves a bit.
13:44 Add a little bit of a new,
13:46 like a new wind.
13:49 Add a new dimension
13:53 into your everyday work.
13:56 We're actually broadcasting this live
14:00 from the salon that I work here,
14:02 here in Zurich, Switzerland,
14:04 for the past, goodness,
14:07 15, 17 years I've been here.
14:10 And,
14:12 matter of fact, heading back
14:15 to the US next Friday,
14:18 again for about six weeks.
14:20 So.
14:24 There you go.
14:27 If you also want to follow me on Instagram, you can.
14:30 It's @mike_korg.
14:33 I post everything on my
14:36 exciting hairdresser life on the road,
14:39 working with all these super great, talented people,
14:42 doing trade shows in salon education,
14:45 all sorts of stuff.
14:46 And,
14:48 in all the different salons that I work at.
14:50 Excellent.
14:52 (machines whirring)
14:55 Can you see it well, Zora?
15:03 - Mm-hmm.
15:04 - Excellent.
15:06 Shaping up nicely.
15:10 You can see here now,
15:12 this is the great thing.
15:13 So you have almost a little bit of an underneath,
15:15 a bit shorter,
15:16 and then the longer pieces hanging out,
15:18 kind of almost disconnected.
15:20 And I think that's what adds,
15:22 that what adds the fun factor
15:27 to that
15:28 one length ball.
15:31 So, this is step one.
15:33 We're gonna sit down now.
15:35 And we're gonna move on here.
15:38 So,
15:39 have a seat.
15:42 Right behind you.
15:43 Excellent.
15:46 So,
15:47 now I'm gonna take my
15:49 (coughs)
15:51 KM Slide Royale.
15:54 That is the perfect medium.
15:57 So for all the ones who do not have a sliding shear,
16:00 which I highly recommend you to get one,
16:02 because trust me and I promise you,
16:05 it'll make cutting hair so much easier.
16:06 If you can't make up your mind,
16:08 get the M.
16:09 That's a perfect medium.
16:11 It's a really great tool.
16:14 So, what we're gonna be doing now,
16:15 we're just gonna like,
16:17 make sure it's gonna sit in nicely,
16:20 right around the occipital bone area.
16:22 I get quite a big piece, as you can tell here.
16:25 You know, it's a nice big piece here.
16:29 Combing it straight out.
16:31 Holding it against my,
16:33 parallel to my finger,
16:35 and I cut it three times.
16:36 And I just eliminate that weight at the end.
16:38 And can you see how it just nicely falls in?
16:41 Gonna do the same thing on the other side.
16:43 And as you can see here,
16:43 I take quite big sections.
16:46 Pulling it straight back here.
16:48 One, two.
16:50 And last one already.
16:52 And look how much I over-direct them back.
16:55 And how cool is that here?
16:56 This is all natural, the color.
16:58 This is super light here in the front,
17:00 which is really,
17:02 makes it so cool looking.
17:04 You know?
17:05 So this haircut is also,
17:07 due to its great natural way,
17:10 the hair color grows out.
17:12 That really makes that haircut as well.
17:14 So sometimes it's a haircut that makes the color,
17:18 and sometimes it's a color that makes the haircut.
17:21 Okay, same thing on the other side.
17:23 Gonna take a nice section here out as well.
17:27 And now what is important is just comb it back.
17:30 And here, eliminate again by two pieces.
17:33 And last section already.
17:35 And by the way,
17:36 if your shear that you own right now
17:40 does not cut smoothly
17:44 through such a section,
17:46 then it's time to get a new pair of shears.
17:49 Okay?
17:50 So look at that.
17:53 Like a million bucks.
17:55 Shears absolutely great.
17:59 And then you just have a great freehand graduated bob.
18:02 Look at that.
18:03 Top layer long.
18:05 Absolutely fun.
18:06 You saw in the beginning of the haircut
18:09 how he grew out after only three months.
18:12 I mean, that's value for your haircut.
18:15 That's awesome.
18:16 That's by the way,
18:17 when someone's haircut,
18:18 the client's haircut grows out well,
18:21 that's 110% the return.
18:23 Because I'm sure we all know that slogan.
18:25 We've all had that.
18:26 The client sits down, comes back, says,
18:29 "Whatever you did last time,
18:31 "it was the best haircut ever."
18:33 So that's reason to come back.
18:35 We all know it's never gonna be the same haircut again,
18:37 but you can try to go very close to it.
18:40 But that's what I'm trying to say.
18:41 They will come back to even give him
18:43 a good, great haircut.
18:44 And I'm such a fan on eliminating weight at the hair end
18:49 because the hair grows at the root.
18:51 So it's lighter, the ends is longer.
18:52 It can hold its shape.
18:54 So, just quick layer.
18:59 Not nice.
19:00 Yeah, it's light enough.
19:01 Perfect.
19:02 Excellent.
19:03 Super.
19:05 Yeah.
19:09 (man speaking in background)
19:12 And I think also what is important is,
19:17 don't overwork it.
19:24 Don't overwork it.
19:29 So you are just gonna clear off there the,
19:33 finishing off there the edges.
19:40 That's it.
19:41 So, super.
19:46 So, there you go.
19:57 Stand up again.
20:00 Just gonna.
20:01 (hair dryer blowing)
20:05 Super.
20:13 Well.
20:14 Wanna get some color perfect?
20:18 - Yes.
20:19 - Sure.
20:20 Good enough for me.
20:24 There you go.
20:28 And you see now, you can see here
20:30 with the front of the color,
20:31 we're gonna look into the camera in a minute here.
20:34 But here, just in the back quickly.
20:37 See that?
20:39 Just awesome.
20:42 Slays here nicely, you know,
20:44 this is like shake and bake.
20:45 It's like wash and go, wash and wear.
20:48 Shake and bake.
20:48 Easy, effortless.
20:50 It's by good haircut enough,
20:52 weight taken out at the hair end,
20:54 and then there you can have a really fun, cool shape.
20:57 It's like slightly A-line-ish, you know,
20:59 this is up to you.
21:00 I think it just adds a lot with a nice jawline as well.
21:03 So, this is great, and that's it.
21:06 So, here, you see also the finishing product here
21:08 with the color, which is really great.
21:10 So, let's say goodbye from Switzerland.
