00:00 hello welcome back so obviously we're having a few technical problems tonight
00:06 what we'll do is we'll just keep resetting it till we get to the end of
00:08 the haircut. I know it's annoying and sadly it's the way that broadband is and
00:13 broadband operates like I say maybe another service provider will do it a
00:18 little bit better than what we've got here but at least we've got this and you
00:21 can see me which is the most important thing. So in your absence we've basically
00:25 laid the back we work from the apex to the occipital bone and just put a nice
00:30 rounded layer in there which will now give us a bit more lift. The most
00:34 important part I wanted to share with you is this back part so what we're
00:37 going to do now is we're going to work on a layer that works from a square
00:42 layer through the top which goes to parietal ridge from the parietal ridge
00:46 then will be a rounded layer and then we'll flip the hand round which will
00:50 then give us even more of a layer so the idea is we're going for a real extreme
00:54 layer and what that will give us is a heart shape at the bottom of the haircut
00:59 because again we don't want it to look like an A-line dress we want it to look
01:04 so basically it's got a little bit more layering in it. So we'll lift this up now
01:09 let's make sure you're in the right position that's good so looking at where
01:14 I'm going I've just got to make sure my arm goes up and then all we're doing
01:18 that is taking off to the second knuckle which is where the parietal ridge is on
01:22 the top that's my guide now from the parietal ridge we're working ourselves
01:27 round slightly bringing it out looking at the arms just have a quick look at my
01:31 arm it's position you can see my arms dead straight and that just keeps it
01:35 again it's the mechanics of the haircut which is really important second knuckle
01:38 just to make sure everything's clean now this is the important part in order to
01:44 get that angle through the side you've got to move to the side of the haircut
01:47 take a step then bring the layers of the hair out ie pulling them out towards you
01:55 this part here is the actual length of the haircut so you only be going any
02:01 shorter than that part there this is the part I've cut previously so we're now
02:04 going to take this part off which then keeps it so it's nice and clean and then
02:09 it creates that shape to the second knuckle again this is the last part what
02:14 that creates now is a layer that will bend round so you get a really nice bend
02:20 most of you that then have turned around and said I'd like to create that
02:24 Victoria Beckham style heart-shaped layer onto the face that's how you do it
02:30 so lifting it up again now if you want to create a stronger point on the front
02:35 of the haircut all you do then is angle the layers back that you're working on
02:39 as we get to the parietal ridge it's then a question of now just bringing it
02:42 out again and turning it the reason we say to go to the second knuckle is
02:47 because it allows you to turn your fingers a little bit more so as we get
02:50 there we now step again like kicking dad in the leg and now we bring the layers
02:57 out again towards me looking for that guide and taking that little piece off
03:01 again this is quite advanced stuff if I was actually going to do this in a
03:07 conventional way just film me for a second I'd have to go like this I'd have
03:11 to bend all over the customer and literally go like that which is quite
03:15 uncomfortable to be able to do but by turning the hand round I can then pull
03:21 it out towards me and maintain my body position really really straight so every
03:26 section just in case the broadband does go down again we're going to take this
03:30 all towards the front of the head so the idea is we're just literally creating a
03:35 nice shape on it so this again is a square layer all the way up to the top
03:39 now we go into the rounded layer again at the parietal ridge which is again
03:44 very important and then what this as I say what it does is as it comes towards
03:49 the front you really see that shape creating and again this is the important
03:53 part here it's just sort of coming around to the side you saw me do a
03:57 little bit of this with the razor on week one with the scissors you can
04:01 create a little bit more because you can get that angle really really tightly
04:05 around which now starts you can see the turn so now we're going towards the
04:09 front again it's better to take smaller sections because I think the smaller the
04:15 section the cleaner the section and of course as they used to say on the nine
04:18 section perms when I was at Leicester Southfields College back in 1987 the
04:25 more you put in the more you get out as with anything practice makes perfect I
04:31 say this it's really really important because people have to be able to sort
04:35 of do that which then creates a shape again when you go back on this video
04:39 you'll be able to rewatch this again that's the idea of me doing these again
04:43 so you can try these things at home I know Nikita over in Norfolk has been
04:50 really really keen on working with the razor very kindly contacted me and said
04:55 it's great you know you're doing these videos because I can sort of sit down
04:59 watch it and you know it's a great education tool again it's really really
05:04 cool to be able to share this with people again I've had these ideas for so
05:07 long that's what I do when I sit around I just get these ideas and I think what
05:11 I want to really sort of share them with people so it's great to showcase this
05:15 tonight and for the next four weeks as well for the customers it's great the
05:20 clients because they get to see what we do as professionals I'm not talking
05:25 about just everybody at Scott Belly hairdresser I'm talking about hairdressers
05:28 in general because we can celebrate the true art that hairdressing is and what
05:33 we are all that includes everybody watching that we are real crafts people
05:38 and we're able to create a beautiful job that we do because again people forget
05:44 to realize that hairdressing is a very stressful job but it's also a very
05:49 creative job let's just put my dad on the top of the stairs come around
05:53 over here again what we can do now is on this side we've got a little bit less
05:59 air so we're going straight to the parietal ridge which is just here that's
06:02 a parietal ridge we'll just do the squared section to the second knuckle
06:06 and then again just come around cleanly to the side bringing this one out you
06:11 have to think really purely about how you're standing now I've got to just step
06:14 to the side which then allows me to get this section and then just bring it out
06:19 if you can just see that that in there you can just see we've got the section
06:24 we've cut and then we come into the layer we've got just there I'll cut this
06:28 and I'll put dad around the other side so you can see at home okay so that's it
06:35 now we can see what's going on of course a lot of people would see what's
06:39 happening so again we're going for a square layer on the top now to the
06:46 parietal ridge which again creates a rounded layer and then it's that step to
06:53 the side which then allows us to be able to pull the section which now you can
06:57 see quite clearly that's the length and that's the piece that's got to come off
07:00 there okay now if you were to create this so you put a little bit more length
07:05 into the front all you do is just pull that layer back which would then
07:09 basically make it so it would be more pointed towards the front which again
07:14 you've got to think as a crafts person because I can't say craftsman because
07:18 there's ladies as well we don't want to be sexist you've got to think as a
07:22 crafts person how you want to have this haircut and how it wants to sit so again
07:28 it's really important so now just on the last section again look at the mechanics
07:31 of my arm that's all sitting you can really sort of see I've got the section
07:35 real disciplined some of you may cut hair or see people that cut like that
07:39 it's important to keep the tension tight at all times because I think again it's
07:45 very important just to keep those sections strong well we're now coming
07:48 towards the end of the dry part so the wet part of the haircut which we're
07:53 then going to be going into the blow-drying in just a moment for those of
07:57 you I should imagine that are probably having your dinners now I'm going to
08:01 cross check and go the opposite way just to make sure that everything's all level
08:04 before we start the blow-dry so just put some more muck volumizing spray in
08:11 tonight fat muck which again just keeps everything nice and damp because again
08:16 it's really important to make sure that you keep it clean the only way you can
08:19 keep it clean is by keeping it slightly damp because then it just keeps it a
08:24 nice straight line okay so cross-checking again to the same way that we were doing
08:29 it which again we're looking to bring it up at a uniform layer because that's the
08:34 way we cut the top then on the next part is the parietal ridge you'll find then
08:43 on the parietal ridge you've got to pull it out at that angle to make sure it's
08:46 level and then of course again just slightly out to that angle that I've cut
08:52 it at earlier which then makes sure everything's right and level it's a good
08:56 job everything is level with everybody watching tonight because I mean you know
09:00 you really do put yourself up when you do this it's like going back to
09:04 hairdressing college for me actually tonight it's great but I like the
09:07 challenge and I like getting my teeth into it and sharing it with you so next
09:12 it's that layer which is going up in the air don't really want it looking like a
09:15 tachograph because of course if it's a tachograph it'll be a bumpy line which won't
09:20 really look that good and then of course just coming through the side angle just
09:25 to make sure that's right as well so that now has got the balance working for
09:29 me which I'm really happy with you know Helen will be happy so now I'm just
09:33 going to go into the fringe part with the razor okay so let's just come around
09:40 this way okay so I'm going to do now the fringe it's just angle that in just
09:46 slightly and then layer it through the idea is that we're looking to go about
09:51 an inch back on the top to the corner of the eye the idea with that then is it
09:55 keeps it more of a natural fringe so we're just thinking about the angle
10:00 we're going to cut this slightly up at an angle so you've got a bit of
10:05 elevation on there using the cutting comb on there all you're doing is just
10:10 taking the edge off you can glide it through if you want to the idea with the
10:16 gliding is it just gets a bit more of a smoother angle but you can hear that
10:19 cutting now and that just creates if you just come around here Dan you can just see
10:24 that shape in there now it's got that nice bend in one go which works really
10:28 really well okay so here we go we're going to go into the layer now again this
10:32 is another part that people don't ever see with fringes I think this is very
10:37 important so I'm going to use curved scissors for this part you can use a normal
10:43 scissor if you want to the idea is with this it's going to just layer slightly
10:48 so just pull it up at an angle that's the part I've just cut this is the part
10:53 here that's on the layer we just want to remove that again to a safe place.
