In 1604, after Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s invasion of Korea and China ended, the Korean side sent Shoun Daishi (Sa Myung Dang) to Japan to uncover Japanese postwar intentions. He stayed at this temple until he met Tokugawa Ieyasu at Fushimi castle in the spring of the following year. Many Japanese Buddhist monks and scholars visited him and deepened their friendship by communicating with him through writing and exchanging Chinese poems. After determining that Ieyasu had no belligerent intentions in the third month of the following year, diplomatic relations between the two countries were resumed two years later.
