00:00We're just light years ahead.
00:02Oh my God, it's going to take them a really long time to catch up to this.
00:16Hello Vogue, it's the Swamp Princess, Dolce.
00:20And today is a very exciting day because I'm going to be picking out the final looks for
00:24my Grammy red carpet.
00:26The whole Tom Brown team is here to conceptualize a bit of a story, which is exciting.
00:32I love telling fashion stories and that's what we plan on doing at the Grammy's.
00:36So let's get into it.
00:38In my studying of hip hop, I observed an era where fashion shifted and became a vital part
00:45of hip hop.
00:46And it was around the time where Jay-Z decided to put on a suit and take off jeans and make
00:51rap highly luxurious and like this boss executive thing.
00:55I fell in love with Tom Brown in my research for brands that I wanted to incorporate into
00:59this era.
01:01And I want to tell that story that being a student of hip hop and studying brought me
01:07to where I am, which is nominated for four Grammys, which is incredible.
01:11We're going to be giving them classes in session all night.
01:14I'm torn for carpet if I'm going to do this or if I'm going to do this.
01:20I think that this is sleek and simple and to the point and it tells the story and it's
01:25direct.
01:26But this, the drama of it all, you have to have a certain taste level and an eye to immediately
01:32understand it.
01:33It might take a couple people to catch up.
01:35So we haven't decided what we want to do yet.
01:37I think I want to try this one first.
01:40And look, look, look, look.
01:42Bam!
01:43What?
01:44Come on.
01:45Come on.
01:52The concept started from me wanting to also play a lot with the masculine and the feminine
01:59throughout the night.
02:01And at first I set a suit with exaggerated hips and a small waist.
02:06But then Tom Brown sent back the most beautiful sketch of a suit dress and that duality of
02:14masculine and feminine, I was like, that is definitely it.
02:18I think this is the carpet look.
02:19I think so too.
02:20We haven't even tried on the rest, but I just feel it.
02:23Everything in my life that I've been good at, I could visually see myself doing it first.
02:28And so I just had a flash of me on the carpet in this and it worked.
02:32And so that's how I know that things are meant to be when I can see them or actualize them.
02:36The vision for this is that she has this finger wave in the front and then her braids coming
02:41out of the back.
02:42There's a lot of people out there who don't know what a lace is.
02:44This is a lace.
02:45So you cut that and then it looks like your hair, but you know, this isn't a hair education.
02:50So this is going to be fab.
02:53This is absolutely it.
02:54And it fits your face already.
02:56It's poetic!
02:57I'm sorry.
02:58Is it always about constant elevation in terms of style?
03:02Redefine.
03:03That's all.
03:04Because the Colbert look really is the tiny desk look when you think about it.
03:08It's kind of all the same world.
03:11It's just, how can we interpret it in a new way?
03:13Like, pinstripe is not new.
03:17People wear ties every day.
03:21You know?
03:23The white collared shirt.
03:25But...
03:26I can't do this!
03:31Woo!
03:32Okay, no, seriously.
03:34I'm acting like a Leo right now.
03:35I need to chill out.
03:36I'm being like hella cocky.
03:38It's not funny.
03:40I think this is really nice.
03:46I'm thinking this is just a fun inside look.
03:50With a story, there has to be peaks and valleys, and this is one of our peaks.
03:58When Doichi said she wanted to do tailoring, but with exaggerated shapes, I looked through
04:04all of Tom's collections and then I showed Doichi a range of all these runway images
04:09and we selected her favorite pieces.
04:11Then I spoke with the team and we narrowed it down to what was available, what was possible,
04:15and they remade these for Doichi and her measurements.
04:18These are my favorite shoes of all time.
04:20Fall, winter, 22.
04:21These are incredible.
04:22And these were colored to begin with on the runway.
04:25Yeah.
04:26And then we decided to paint them gray and white to...
04:29Keep everything...
04:30Cohesive.
04:31Cohesive and monochromatic and just amazing.
04:34Let's put on the final touch.
04:37Oh my God.
04:42She's darling.
04:43I want to wear this inside, so I want to test if we can sit on a chair.
04:47Can someone bring a chair in here?
04:48Can we ask the Grammys if the chairs have arms?
04:52If it doesn't have arms, we'll be great.
04:59This is fine.
05:00No arms.
05:01No arms.
05:03What can I say?
05:10This is fashion.
05:12This is fabulous.
05:13This is the astronaut look.
05:14It actually comes with the astronaut helmet bag.
05:18We have these gloves as well.
05:20I think it's kind of cool to just let them hang.
05:24I think something about it makes it street in a way.
05:28Fab.
05:29Let's try the hair.
05:31Wow.
05:32Wow.
05:33Wow.
05:34Wow.
05:35Wow.
05:36Wow.
05:37Wow.
05:38It's like tribal a little bit, but I don't know, like tribal couture.
05:44It's just crazy, but it's out of space, but it's totally here.
05:49It's the past, present, and future.
05:52Yeah.
05:53Okay, let's get into the next look.
05:58This is my, if I were to win, winner's look.
06:06This entire outfit is because of this shoe, and I want to show you the shoe.
06:10It has a bell, and it rings when you walk, and so the gold of this matching the gold
06:17of my Grammy, come on.
06:21She's a fashion icon.
06:22This for me right now, this gives more student.
06:26Maybe graduated from a student, maybe a dean.
06:29Don't you da don, don't you da dean, don't you da swan.
06:32I just love this ensemble.
06:33To me, it ties up the whole night.
06:35The pinstripe, the business wear, and every shade of gray, and even my performance look
06:41has many shades of gray in it.
06:45This is the moment.
06:47This is the end of the story, the end of the night.
06:50I'm obsessed.
06:53I'm actually obsessed with this look.
06:54This is my favorite.
06:59I really stepped into myself for this project.
07:02I stepped into myself in a way that I cannot be apologetic about, for me, because I earned
07:13it.
07:15Everything about my life right now is embodying and owning what I have overcome, and not feeling
07:21guilty for celebrating that and showing up dramatically in celebration all the time,
07:29because I have a reason to celebrate.
07:32Vogue, this has been an incredible experience, but I got to get to the red carpet, so thank
07:47you guys for being here with me, and I'll see you at the Grammys.
07:52When I would rehearse my Grammy speeches when I was younger to everybody else, it was just
07:57cute, and it was funny, but for me, I really was there, and I think that whatever happens
08:03on that night, I've already experienced the win, and I've felt the feelings of the win
08:08whenever it happens.
08:13Is this wood?
08:15I don't know.
08:19We'll see.
08:21We'll see.
