00:00In the United States, President Donald Trump signed a series of executive orders on his
00:14first day in office following his inauguration.
00:20In Russia, President Vladimir Putin said Russia became the main supplier of natural gas to
00:25China.
00:27In Palestine, the Health Ministry reported seven Palestinians killed and 35 others injured
00:34during the ongoing Israeli aggression in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin.
00:43Hello and welcome from the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from the Lesos studios in Havana,
00:47Cuba.
00:48We begin with the news.
00:49In the United States, President Donald Trump signed a series of executive orders on his
00:53first day in office following his inauguration.
00:57The first nine executive orders were signed in front of a crowd of 20,000 people during
01:01the presidential inauguration parade in Washington.
01:04The first order re-signs 78 executive actions and presidential memoranda issued by the Biden
01:09administration over the past four years.
01:11The President declared a national emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border while ordering a
01:15review of the Refugee Admissions Program to better align it with U.S. principles and interests.
01:21The current president, meanwhile, called the previous administration the worst in
01:26history for allowing criminals and criminal groups into the country.
01:30We're going to sign some orders right now and that's really what I want to do.
01:41So we're going to sign executive orders.
01:44First I'll revoke nearly 80 destructive and radical executive actions of the previous
01:51administration, one of the worst administrations in history.
01:54Maybe the worst.
01:55Not the one of them.
01:56The worst.
01:57Anybody that would allow millions of people to pour through our borders from jails, prisons,
02:04mental institutions, insane asylums, gang members to be taken off the streets of Venezuela
02:10and deposited in our country, and many, not just Venezuelans.
02:14You know, crime in Venezuela is down 74 percent because they took their criminals and gave
02:20them to us through an open border policy of the previous administration.
02:33In this context, the newly sworn-in U.S. president revoked the executive order of January 14th
02:38in which former President Joe Biden removed Cuba from the state's sponsoring terrorism
02:43list.
02:44In addition, Trump ordered the repeal of the executive order that guaranteed an educational
02:47environment free of gender discrimination, as well as ordered the abrogation of laws
02:52that promoted racial equity and support for underserved communities through the federal
02:58government.
03:04Donald Trump also talked about some of the measures it will take to make his nation rich
03:08again.
03:09We will be a rich nation again, and it is that liquid gold under our feet that will
03:17help to do it.
03:19With my actions today, we will end the Green New Deal and we will revoke the electric vehicle
03:24mandate, saving our auto industry and keeping my sacred pledge to our great American autoworkers.
03:34Instead of taxing our citizens to enrich other countries, we will tariff and tax foreign
03:40countries to enrich our citizens.
03:48For this purpose, we are establishing the External Revenue Service to collect all tariffs,
03:58duties, and revenues.
04:01There will be massive amounts of money pouring into our treasury, coming from foreign sources.
04:08In a press briefing held Tuesday, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China
04:12condemned the decision of the new U.S. administration of Donald Trump to include Cuba in the state's
04:17sponsoring terrorism list.
04:25As President Diaz-Canel pointed out, the new United States government has resumed the deceptive
04:30practice of listing Cuba as a state sponsor of terrorism.
04:34The aim is to continue intensifying its brutal economic war against Cuba in order to achieve
04:39its goal of dominating the country.
04:42The repeated use of the known state-sponsoring terrorism list wantonly imposes unilateral
04:46sanctions on Cuba, runs counter to facts, and it has no basis.
04:52It fully reveals the hegemonic, high-handed and bullying face of the United States.
04:58The spokesman also announced that they will seek to collaborate with the new U.S. administration
05:04to resolve trade issues, as President Trump threatened to impose severe tariffs on China.
05:11The innate character of China-U.S. economic and trade cooperation is mutual benefits and
05:15common wins.
05:16Maintaining the stable development of China-U.S. economic and trade relations is in the fundamental
05:20interests of the two countries and the two peoples, and is also conducive to global economic
05:24development.
05:25China is willing to strengthen dialogue and communication with the United States, properly
05:29manage differences and expand mutually beneficial cooperation in accordance with the principles
05:34of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation.
05:38It is hoped that the United States will work with China to jointly promote the stable,
05:41healthy and sustainable development of China-U.S. economic and trade relations.
05:46Indigenous U.S. leader Leonel Peltier, who has been in prison for more than 40 years,
05:52received a commutation of his sentence on January 20 in one of Joe Biden's last official
05:57acts before leaving the White House.
05:59The extraordinary move finally heard the outcry of thousands of people inside and outside
06:03the United States, international religious leaders, human rights organizations and celebrities
06:07who called for his release.
06:09Peltier, 80-year-old, was denied parole in July and was not eligible for parole again
06:14until 2026.
06:16Peltier was convicted of participating in the 1975 murder of two FBI agents on the Pine
06:21Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota and was serving life in prison, but always maintained
06:27his innocence.
06:28According to the defense, the evidence was falsified against him.

07:07Russia became the main supplier of natural gas to China as part of energy cooperation
07:11agreements.
07:13Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed this during a video meeting with his Chinese
07:16counterpart Xi Jinping on Tuesday, the same time the Russian head of state added that
07:21Moscow is also the leading oil exporter to China.
07:24For his part, the Chinese President emphasized that relations between the two nations are
07:27based on friendship and mutual trust, which allows them to carry out successful projects
07:32in industry, transportation, agriculture and other sectors.
07:42We build our ties on the basis of friendship, mutual trust and support for equality and
07:47mutual benefit.
07:49These ties are self-sufficient, they do not depend on domestic political factors nor the
07:54current global situation.
07:58It can be said with certainty that foreign policy communication, joint work between Russia
08:04and China objectively plays an important and stabilizing role in international affairs.
08:10China-Russia relations, with eternal kindness and friendship at their core, as well as comprehensive
08:14strategic interaction, mutually beneficial cooperation and wins for both sides are
08:19gaining new vitality.

09:23to al-Amal and al-Shifa hospitals.
09:26Local media report that Israeli warplanes take part in the aggression on the city and
09:31camp.
09:32As of January 20th, the Zionist army continues to install iron gates at the entrances of
09:37several towns and villages in the West Bank, restricting the transit of residents as well
09:42as imposing collective punishments against the population.
09:49And also in Palestine, authorities report the arrival of hundreds of shipments of humanitarian
09:53aid for those affected by the crisis in the Gaza Strip.
09:56In the context of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Palestinian Resistance
10:00Movement, approximately 915 trucks were allowed to cross the border from Egypt to the southern
10:06city of Rafah.
10:08After the truce, some families returned to their homes, finding a level of destruction
10:12that they described as a dystopia.
10:15According to various organizations, around 90% of the Gaza population was displaced,
10:21suffering from malnutrition after 15 months of Israeli bombardment.
10:30And concurrently with the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, Israeli forces and extremist settlers
10:34terrorized the Palestinian population in the occupied West Bank.
10:37On Monday evening, groups of heavily armed Israeli settlers launched a set of arson
10:42attacks on vehicles, commercial facilities, and houses, injuring several Palestinians.
10:48The aggravation occurred in villages located east of Qalqilya city, while the occupation
10:53forces protected the offenders.
10:55At the same time, the Israeli army arrested many Palestinians in the West Bank, as well
11:00as it blocked access to numerous localities.
11:09An impeached South Korean President Jun Suk-kyo attends his political trial on Tuesday, which
11:15takes place at the Constitutional Court.
11:17The court was scheduled to hold the third hearing of Jun's impeachment at 2 p.m. local
11:21time to examine evidence presented by the National Assembly related to the short-lived
11:26imposition of martial law on December 3rd.
11:28It should be noted that President Jun, who is suspended from his duties, did not attend
11:33the two previous hearings held earlier this month.
11:36The court has 180 days to uphold or dismiss Jun's removal from office.
11:41If the decision is ratified, Jun will be removed from office during an early presidential election
11:45within 60 days.
11:46If not, Jun will be reinstated as president of the country.
11:58A 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck the Hsiayi district in southeastern Taiwan on Tuesday,
12:13leaving at least 26 people injured.
12:15According to the Emergency Medical Management System of the Ministry of Health and Welfare,
12:20all of the injured were transferred and received medical treatment.
12:22In the same vein, an Air Force helicopter was dispatched in the morning to the area
12:27to conduct an aerial survey and continue to assist the situation.
12:30As a result of the earthquake, train services, as well as water and electricity supplies
12:34in several places are suspended, and now several sections of Highway 20 and 29 in the district
12:40are also blocked by rockslides.
12:43And in Chile, almost 1,000 hectares have been affected by at least 34 forest fires nationwide.
12:53At least 966 hectares of forests have been consumed by the flames.
12:57According to official information, which confirms the continuity of the work to put out at least
13:01seven active outbreaks.

13:58The president of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, highlighted the strengthening of energy after
14:02assuring that the oil niche will produce 1.5 million barrels of crude oil per day in January.
14:07The Venezuelan president informed that the gas industry stabilized and recovered after
14:12terrorist attacks.
14:13In addition, the head of state advanced that this year the nation will grow enormously
14:17in the production of gas for domestic consumption and exports.
14:21Furthermore, the leader pointed out that he has a powerful team trained, polished,

14:30President Maduro indicated that Venezuela is heading towards 1.5 million barrels per day
14:35made by the people's own efforts to strengthen production and reach the great goal of self-sufficiency.
14:40The oil industry has already averaged 1,057,000 barrels per day in January, and we are on
14:59our way to 1,500,000 barrels per day with our own effort, our own money, and our own
15:05resources.
15:07In Venezuela as well, during the event in tribute to Piedad Córdoba, one of her sons,
15:13Camilo Castro Córdoba, offered a few words of tribute to the Colombian social fighter.
15:26Today we gather to pay tribute to a woman whose life was an example of integrity, bravery
15:32and generosity.
15:37Piedad Córdoba was not only a political leader, but also a tireless fighter for peace and
15:45social justice.
15:48A firm and clear voice in the midst of adversity, a woman who dedicated her existence to the
15:55cause of the most vulnerable.
16:00Her commitment to the liberation of the kidnapped in Colombia went beyond the imaginable.
16:07Piedad risked her own safety, her peace of mind and even her personal well-being to build
16:13bridges where only others saw walls.
16:16Her conviction that peace was possible, her unwavering faith in dialogue and reconciliation
16:21led her to make sacrifices that few would be willing to make.
16:27The President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, declared on Monday a state of commotion and
16:31economic emergency given the worsening situation of violence in the country.
16:35The unprecedented escalation of violence left 100 dead and almost 20,000 displaced
16:42in five days.
16:43This exceptional decision empowers the executive to take extraordinary measures such as releasing
16:48resources and restricting the mobility of inhabitants.
16:51Petro has not specified the scope of the declaration, which may last for a maximum period of 90
16:57days, extendable for up to two periods.
17:00Through his social media, the Colombian President said that peace is a revolutionary flag because
17:04it is the flag of life and that he expects the support of the judiciary.
17:14On Monday, January 20, the Panamanian justice system decided to postpone until November
17:19the trial in the Odebrecht case, in which former presidents Ricardo Martinelli and Juan
17:23Carlos Varela are accused.
17:26The date of the new hearing will be from November 11 to the 19th, with an alternate date from
17:31January 12 to February 13, 2026.
17:34An action that, according to analysts, constitutes a new delay in the biggest corruption case
17:38in Panama since the investigation dates back to 2017.
17:42Despite delays in the trial, the prosecutor's office announced that the investigation continues
17:47and that it is prepared to present any new evidence.
17:5026 people are currently prosecuted for the alleged commission of the crime against the
17:54economic order in the form of money laundering, including former presidents and several of
17:59their former ministers.
