00:00In the United States, Republican Party candidate Donald Trump wins presidential election.
00:13In Palestine, at least 100 chronically ill patients, including children, are waiting
00:19for evacuation out of Gaza.
00:25And Hurricane Rafael swirled past the Cayman Islands while it is expected to rapidly intensify
00:29before making landfall on Wednesday in western Cuba, it's forecast to hit as Category 2 hurricane.
00:42Hello welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Televisa Studios in Havana,
00:46Cuba.
00:47We begin with the news.
00:48In the United States, Republican Party candidate Donald Trump becomes the new president of
01:03the North American country.
01:05Donald Trump has won the U.S. presidential election, defeating in the electoral votes
01:09count his Democratic contender Kamala Harris, crossing the 270 mark after securing Wisconsin.
01:15Trump's victory over Vice President Kamala Harris makes him the first former president
01:19to return to power in non-consecutive terms, since Grover Cleveland regained the White
01:23House in the 1892 elections, he was the first convicted criminal to win the highest elected
01:29office in the United States.
01:32Republicans also took control of the Senate, flipping seats in Ohio and West Virginia.
01:37This election is considered one of the most significant in recent U.S. history, with results
01:41that could shape both the future of the nation and global geopolitics over the next four
01:45years.
01:46And frankly, this was, I believe, the greatest political movement of all time.
01:58There's never been anything like this in this country, and maybe beyond, and now it's going
02:04to reach a new level of importance, because we're going to help our country heal, help
02:12our country heal.
02:13We have a country that needs help, and it needs help very badly.
02:19We're going to fix our borders.
02:21We're going to fix everything about our country.
02:25We made history for a reason tonight, and the reason is going to be just that.
02:30We overcame obstacles that nobody thought possible, and it is now clear that we've achieved
02:37the most incredible political thing.
02:40Look what happened.
02:41Is this crazy?
02:46Meanwhile, Republicans won control of the U.S. Senate on Tuesday with victories in West
02:53Virginia and Ohio, guaranteeing that the party will control at least one chamber of Congress
02:57next year.
02:58In a sense, neither party appeared to have a clear advantage in the battle for the House
03:02of Representatives, which Republicans now control by a narrow margin.
03:06But Tuesday's results guaranteed that Republicans could help Trump appoint conservative judges
03:11and other government staff.
03:19Let's now continue going deeper into the analysis post-election day.
03:22For that, we are joined by James Earley, member of the Board of Trustees of the Institute
03:26for Policy Studies, Washington, D.C.
03:29Welcome, James, too, from the South.
03:32Good morning.
03:33Pleased to be here with you this difficult morning.
03:36James, how can we understand Donald Trump's victory, meaning that the fact that not only
03:40he won in the electoral votes, but for the first time also in popular votes?
03:47I think the most significant thing is that two-thirds of the American people in their
03:52multicultural gender ethnic expressions support the policies and the attitude of Donald Trump
04:03towards democracy.
04:05So it is on the social base of voters that I think we should pay close attention.
04:11Donald Trump is an unpredictable racist, fascist, misogynist, accused of rape, expelled two
04:20times in the electoral and the federal system for charges against him.
04:27But the American people, two-thirds of the voters, have spoken.
04:30That is where the real challenge is.
04:32Do you anticipate Trump's victory will reshape U.S. foreign policies, particularly in relation
04:38to China and Russia?
04:42That is an interesting question.
04:44It would appear that with regard to Russia, that he may be more aligned in trying to bring
04:52to some kind of end the Russian invasion of Ukraine, in which Ukraine will make the compromise
05:00that they probably should have made earlier, that they are not going to be able to continue
05:05this war.
05:07With regard to China, I think it remains to be seen.
05:12Trump as a personality likes strong leaders, and the Chinese leader is a very strong leader
05:20of his country.
05:21So we will have to wait to see how that gets negotiated.
05:24I think the more pressing question in our continent is what will be the Trump administration's
05:30orientation towards Cuba.
05:33The Biden-Harris administration intensified the Trump economic warfare against Cuba.
05:39What will be the Trump administration's relationship towards the Venezuelan government with Nicolas
05:46Maduro is an outstanding question, and, of course, Nicaragua.
05:51What will be the Trump administration's relationship with Lula da Silva's administration in Brazil?
05:57These are outstanding questions because immigration is one of the key issues that the American
06:06public on both sides of the aisle, Democrats and Republicans, have been concerned about.
06:11And these economic warfares by the Harris administration, by the Biden-Harris administration,
06:17also by the previous Trump administration against Venezuela, has pushed out several
06:22million people, has pushed out two million citizens in Cuba in the last few years.
06:28These are economic war pushouts, and so they put a lot of strain on the immigration policy.
06:33So we will have to see whether or not they will make some kind of compromise with both
06:41the Cuban government as well as with the Venezuelan government to try and stem the tide, breaking
06:49this blockade so that Cuba can stabilize its economy, and stopping the economic warfare
06:55against Venezuela so that so many Venezuelans are not pushed out economically, are intricately
07:00tied up with the issue of immigration.
07:03Well, I was going to ask about Venezuela and Cuba, but since you already touched that topic,
07:07let's change the question and ask about its traditional allies, especially in Europe and
07:12Asia, given Trump's America First approach.
07:14He has spoken a lot about defunding NATO in a way, and calling other people to put more.
07:20How do you expect that to go on?
07:23I think it will be a tense and somewhat unstable relationship with NATO, as Trump demonstrated
07:29before.
07:31Objectively, Trump has stood against NATO, and I think that will have great influence
07:40on bringing to the table a just peace with regard to Russia and Ukraine.
07:48I suspect that the Europeans are very, very nervous today about Donald Trump because they
07:53saw what he did in his first term.
07:56So I think that is going to be a more unstable relationship.
08:02The situation in the Middle East has also been a key issue during this whole electoral
08:07campaign, especially in terms of the Israeli aggressions against the people of Palestine
08:12and Lebanon.
08:13How do you see Trump's return to power shaping that conflict over there?
08:18Well, in some ways, that has already been shaped by the Biden-Harris administration's
08:24alignment with Netanyahu, who has already expanded his genocidal war against Palestinians
08:32to go in to actually try and control the government of Lebanon, and seems poised to attack Iran.
08:43And so this conflict is already set in motion, and I don't think it's going to be easy for
08:49Donald Trump's administration to simply walk back on that.
08:54We will have to see how this Donald Trump administration handles the U.S. military,
09:02with African Americans, Austin and Brown, being the two leading men in the U.S. military.
09:09Will he keep them in their positions?
09:12These are some of the pressing questions that we must be concerned about, both here in the
09:18United States and with the international community.
09:21A question, James, in your view, what long-term implications can a new Trump's administration
09:27have both for the United States and for the world?
09:32Well, this is much bigger than Donald Trump.
09:35Although Donald Trump is a very powerful kind of personality, it is the MAGA movement which
09:44has taken over local, state, and federal platforms of governance, which is the most
09:51significant thing.
09:53They now have an organized approach, including to the judiciary.
09:58We can expect that Donald Trump will appoint more right-wing, misogynist, racist, anti-immigrant
10:05justices to the Supreme Court, and that MAGA governments across the United States will
10:12be strengthened.
10:13So it is the institutions of governance that they are taking over.
10:17They have a very strategic plan with Steve Bannon, who is the international liaison,
10:25with people like Orban, people like Bolsonaro in Brazil.
10:30So this is a very dangerous moment that is going to last more than four years because
10:35they are taking over the platform of governance.
10:40It's not just a personality in Donald Trump that is moving forward.
10:45Thank you, James, for your time here with us in From the South.
10:50It's our pleasure to have you.
10:52Let's now take a first short break, but remember you can join us on TikTok at Televisual English
10:56where you'll find news in different formats, news updates, and much more.
11:02Stay with us.
11:10Welcome back.
11:32Let's continue on topic on the aftermath of the U.S. elections.
11:35We go now live with our special envoy Jorge Restoso for the latest updates on everything
11:39that is happening following Trump's victory in yesterday's election.
11:51It was most definitely overwhelming victory of Donald Trump's last night in this presidential
11:59election.
12:00Why?
12:02Because he did perform extremely well, outperformed all the presidents in previous elections,
12:10an average of 3% in all the 50 states.
12:13And in the case of, for example, the state of Wisconsin, that was the state considered
12:19one of the states that could go from one side to the other, he was breaking what was the
12:25tradition of the Democrats to win that state.
12:29So most definitely he gained in almost all areas, women, black people, Hispanics, Hispanics.
12:38We're talking about a guy that has been talking about awful things about Hispanics and Hispanics
12:45are still, for example, in Wisconsin, Latinos were voting for him.
12:50The key issue here, it was very clever marketing in terms of the issues that he addressed.
12:58The key issues, economy, 45% of Americans say that they're living worse today than four
13:06years ago.
13:07And then immigration, it has been presented to the American people that the migrants are
13:16the enemies that have come here to poison the blood of America, to steal jobs, to fill
13:23hospitals, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
13:26So he did outperform his rival in terms of choosing in a better way what people wanted
13:35to hear.
13:36And what is not less important is that he has also will be having a very comfortable
13:43situation vis-a-vis of the assembly.
13:47We're talking about the Congress.
13:51Now the Senate is in the hands of the Republicans and most probably, or it has a high probability
14:00that the House of Representatives also will be in the hands of the Republican Party.
14:06In that case, it will have a very smooth sailing in terms of pushing his agenda.
14:13So therefore, today, we could say that the Republican Party and Donald Trump are celebrating
14:20big time what happened in the polls last night.
14:25We get back to you now.
14:28Thank you, Justozo, for the latest information.
14:30We'll stay in touch for upcoming news brief.
14:32Let's continue now with our news.
14:50Palestine, according to the World Health Organization, at least 100 chronically ill
14:58patients are waiting for evacuation out of Gaza among them children.
15:01In this regard, Dr. Rick Pippercorn, WHO representative for the Occupied Palestinian Territories,
15:07said that the evacuees are part of a list of priority candidates compiled by the Ministry
15:13of Health in Gaza.
15:14Pippercorn further added that since the closure of the Rafah border between Gaza and Egypt
15:20on May 2024, approximately 282 medical evacuations have taken place.
15:24In this case, the patients will travel in a large convoy to the Arab Emirates and Romania
15:29to receive necessary care.
15:36He has a war injury.
15:37He had a fractured spine, a broken foot, burns on his hands and back and stiff bones.
15:43The child suffers from autism and hyperactivity.
15:47He woke up the second day, unable to get up or move due to the war injury.
15:52He fell from the third floor and we found him on the ground, the rubble under and above
15:57him.
15:58His two brothers were martyred and three of my sons and their wives and five of my grandchildren.
16:04I woke up and did not find anyone in the house.
16:13My son's condition has deteriorated a lot.
16:16He currently has ulcers on his back that have reached the bone.
16:20He cannot move his legs at all.
16:22He needs intensive physical therapy and requires surgical operations.
16:27I have been waiting for five months for any day for him to come out for treatment and
16:33for his condition to improve.
16:34Thank God, they call us today, God willing, he will head to the United Arab Emirates.
16:42The Israeli aggression against Lebanon entered its 44th day, causing dozens of martyrs and
16:46wounded.
16:47The number of martyrs continues to increase since the beginning of the aggression on October
16:508, 2023.
16:52The Public Health Emergency Operations Center of the Ministry of Public Health issued a
16:56statement announcing that the non-definite balance of the Israeli enemy attack on Burj
17:00al-Hajjah has risen to 20 deaths and 14 wounded.
17:04In the context of the destructive war waged by Israeli forces against Lebanon, particularly
17:09in southern parts of the country, military operations have intensified to unprecedented
17:13levels.
17:14More than 37 localities have been completely razed, resulting in the total destruction
17:19of over 40,000 homes.
17:26In Lebanon, the Ministry of Culture condemned the criminal attacks of the Israeli regime
17:29on the nation and its archaeological monuments.
17:32The organization stresses that the Saudi occupation seeks to destroy history, civilization and
17:36brotherhood, stressing that for Tel Aviv it is unbearable not to have history in Palestine,
17:42so it tries to erase its history and sink the region and those who support it.
17:47The entity also highlighted the country's position in demanding a ceasefire and the
17:51implementation of the International Resolution 1701 of the United Nations without amendments
17:56that demands the cessation of hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel.
18:05Meanwhile in Syria, the armed forces reported violent Israeli bombardments against the municipality
18:10of al-Qusayr in the province of Homs, near the border with Lebanon, leaving one dead
18:15and five wounded.
18:16According to local media, the air raids targeted several buildings, likewise, the systematic
18:20attack by the Tel Aviv regime caused heavy fires and severe damage to infrastructure
18:24in the industrial zone.
18:25It is important to point out that last October 31st, the same city was the target of a similar
18:30aggression that left at least 10 people dead.
18:32It is worth noting that Israel has intensified its hostile military actions against targets
18:37in Syrian territory, some of them against suburbs of the capital, Damascus.

19:37Hurricane Rafael swirled past the Cayman Islands, expected to rapidly intensify before landfall,
19:41as Qatar returned hurricane on Wednesday in western Cuba.
19:45The storm was about 310 km south-southeast of Havana, had maximum sustained winds of
19:49150 km per hour, and was moving northwest at 22 km per hour.
19:54According to the National Weather Service of the US, located in Miami, forecasters warn
19:59that Rafael will slam into Cuba on Wednesday after dumping rain on Jamaica and the Cayman
20:04Islands on Tuesday.
20:05The center warned of floods, storm surges and mudslides in Cuba.
20:09The Provincial Defense Council of Havana also ordered the suspension of public transport
20:13services as the hurricane will have a direct impact on the western part of the island,
20:17especially its capital.
20:23The United Nations reported that more than 2 billion inhabitants of the planet's major
20:27cities could face an additional temperature increase of at least 0.5 degrees Celsius by
20:322040.
20:33UN-HABITAT estimated that cities need an investment of between 4.5 and 5.4 trillion U.S. dollars
20:41per year to build and maintain climate-resilient systems.
20:44However, current financing is estimated at 831 billion dollars.
20:49In this regard, the agencies recognize that this shortfall leaves cities, and especially
20:53their most vulnerable populations, exposed to increasing risks.
20:56In addition, the director of the NDT, Ana Claudia Rosbach, urged an accelerated transformation
21:01of neighborhoods and attention to the needs of the most vulnerable areas of cities.
21:11Spain has announced a 10.6 billion euro aid package to help those affected by flash floods
21:16that killed at least 217 people and destroyed businesses and homes last week.
21:21To Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, the package includes 838 million euros in cash handouts
21:26to small businesses and freelance workers affected by the disaster.
21:30The package also includes 5 billion euros of state-guaranteed loans, while the national
21:34government will finance 100 percent of the cleanup costs by local councils and half the
21:38reported infrastructure.
21:39In addition, the Prime Minister said that Spain had also requested aid from the European
21:45Union's Solidarity Fund.
21:47There are 10.6 billion euros in this first response of the first phase of this immediate
21:56reconstruction and recovery plan for the Valencian community.
22:05It is a good first step, an agile and ambitious step with concrete, realistic measures that
22:10are coming into force now and that are going to help people and businesses in the coming
22:14days and weeks.
22:27In Brazil, the Chinese Film Festival kicks off in Rio de Janeiro as part of the reinforcement
22:32of integration between the Brazilian and Chinese peoples.
22:35The festival will run until November 8th and will showcase the contemporary diversity of
22:39Chinese cinema while reflecting and celebrating the cultural ties between Brazil and the Asian
22:44nation.
22:45During the event, three films will be screened at special times at the Odeon Cinema and the
22:49Quinoplex Sao Luís Cinema.
22:51The festival program, that includes nine future films, is organized by the Brazil-China Social
22:56Cultural Institute, IBRACHINA, and it is the result of a partnership between the governments
23:00of both nations.
