From Utah to Montana, a Pacific storm is bringing wintry weather across the western U.S. in the final days of October.
Transcript
00:00This is a Utah DOT with the snow plow cams. Love seeing these again.
00:05Although if you have to travel long distances, it can be tricky.
00:07Let's go to Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
00:09And here you can see we're at 36 degrees.
00:11Looks kind of a wet surface right now, a little bit of rain, cold rain.
00:15And there are some snowflakes at times in western parts of Wyoming.
00:19But the forecast is going to get increasingly active here to the east of this location
00:24as the snow moves farther east.
00:26So there are low elevations out near Jackson where we're not necessarily under a true winter storm
00:31or winter weather advisory.
00:32But you step away from the lowest elevations in the Jackson Hole area
00:36and you're going to get up into winter weather advisories,
00:38winter storm warnings in the deep blue across much of Wyoming.
00:41And then fire danger is the concern in the red zones here of eastern Utah,
00:46eastern parts of Colorado, I should say.
00:48In Utah, it's a mix of freeze warnings and also winter weather advisories.
00:52But the blue zones here where we're going to get cold behind this storm system
00:56and then accumulating snows falling in these winter weather advisory zones,
00:59winter storm warnings where the heavier snow is falling up into parts of southern Montana,
01:03western South Dakota into the Black Hills and also a chunk of Wyoming.
01:07So here we are with the radar, and again, the rain-snow line is nudged east of the Black Hills.
01:12So we're into the snow zone there.
01:14We have snow across parts of Wyoming into the Colorado Rockies, the Wasatch, the Uintas,
01:19the high ground in the interior west getting into it here for sure.
01:22As we jump into the current temperatures here, well, overall tomorrow,
01:26we're around 40 in Denver with a rain-snow mix.
01:29It's going to be cooler, but the current readings show that we're at 56 now in Denver.
01:33And we're still at 84 in El Paso, but we've really dropped about 15 to 20 degrees in Phoenix.
01:38The cooler air is marching in.
01:40We're down to 31 in Casper with that snow falling.
01:43And in Casper, we're anticipating between 6 and 10 inches of snow in progress now through tonight,
01:48winding down by midday tomorrow.
01:50Then we get a little break of the action here.
01:52There's going to be a brief zone of high pressure that scoots across the region here
01:57through the interior west after storm system number one exits to the east,
02:02and number two will be moving in here into Wednesday.
02:05So tomorrow, the break comes to an end in Seattle.
02:08Importantly, you're back into rain.
02:10Mountain snow will return, and this is the second in a series of Pacific storms
02:14crossing the western U.S. and marching into the northern Rockies by Thursday morning.
02:19This is Halloween morning.
02:21Snow in the high ground, rain on the valley floor southeast of Boise.
02:24We have rain and snow mixed there into parts of Washington and Oregon,
02:28high-elevation snow certainly, and the low elevations will be seeing the rain
02:31that lingers through much of Thursday.
02:33And soaking rain, the wettest weather in the nation,
02:36most persistent rain on Thursday on Halloween will likely be in western parts of Oregon.
02:41Heading farther south, here you can see we're going to be a little cool.
02:44Sacramento, only 66 degrees.
02:46That's about 8 degrees below normal for Halloween.
02:48Vegas, about 5 degrees below average, only 71.
02:51Tucson, 81.
02:52L.A., beautiful day for Halloween, 73 degrees.
