00:00I woke up today with news of Facebook and Ray-Ban collaborating on new smart glasses.
00:04These shades have cameras, speakers, so naturally...
00:10Hey Facebook, take a photo.
00:21Good day, you beautiful people. Welcome to Issa Does Tech, where we do tech in your life, in style.
00:26And what a stylish video we have for today. We are checking out the new Ray-Ban Stories.
00:30These are Facebook's first smart glasses and color me intrigued.
00:34Let's turn back the clock a little bit and unbox these babies.
00:38I wasn't kidding when I said that we rushed to the Ray-Ban store
00:41when I found out that these glasses were dropping today.
00:44And as you can see, I was pretty excited so I couldn't wait to get to the studio to unbox.
00:50At the location we went to, there were three different styles.
00:53You had Wayfarers, you had Round Ones, and you also had Meteors.
00:57There were also different colors and you could opt for transition lenses
01:02or even put in your prescription though that would take a little bit more time
01:06so I opted for the basic shades.
01:08Each pair comes with a leather case that doubles as a charging dock,
01:12paperwork, you have another fabric case, and also you have the USB-C charging cord.
01:18These are Facebook's smart glasses but again, these are also Ray-Ban
01:23so it follows that they look very, very good.
01:26I was honestly taking a while picking between Meteor and Wayfarers
01:30but ultimately I went for this more classic look.
01:33And despite all that time deciding, I was still the very first Ray-Ban Story sale this Ray-Ban store had.
01:40I told you we rushed.
01:41This pair sits perfectly on my face and I don't think anyone would know these were smart glasses
01:46until I tell them they are.
01:48I'd say that definitely the sides are thicker but they're not so heavy.
01:53Also, I've been wearing the Huawei Gentle Monster smart glasses
01:56so this isn't really new to me.
01:58Joshua, on the other hand, got the same Wayfarer style in a different color
02:02and with transition lenses because he wants to be wearing them even indoors
02:07and yeah, it looks good on him.
02:10Nice.
02:12So like I said, these have cameras built in.
02:15Two sides of these glasses are the cameras and they're very discreet.
02:21You can shoot photos or videos with these and you can just press
02:24and while you're shooting, it'll actually light up that little dot at the corner there
02:29to indicate that you are shooting.
02:31There's also an indicator light at the inner side
02:34that will light up when you're shooting so you know you're actually rolling.
02:38Or you can just go,
02:39Hey Facebook, take a video.
02:41Yeah, this is video shot via these glasses.
02:47So when you do that Hey Facebook prompt,
02:49it does a little sound that signals that you can give a command.
02:53I will say that it's pretty useful for hands-free use
02:55but at the same time, it gets a little bit of getting used to.
02:59I've been saying, Hey Google, shoot a video when it should be Hey Facebook
03:03and not to mention how awkward and weird it can get when, for example,
03:06I'm walking by myself and I randomly bust out
03:09a Hey Facebook, shoot a video, you know?
03:13Hey Facebook, take a photo.
03:18Hey Facebook, take a photo.
03:24Hey Facebook, take a photo.
03:30Hey Facebook, take a photo.
03:33Hey Facebook, take a photo.
03:38Better have taken that photo.
03:45So this is me walking and talking.
03:47Can it see my hands?
03:49What is the point of view?
03:51How far can you see?
03:53If I'm like down here, as far as my hands can reach.
03:59He's just embarrassed of me because I keep on saying,
04:01Hey Facebook, when I'm not talking to anyone.
04:08Hey Facebook, take a photo.
04:17Hey Facebook, take a photo.
04:20I got to remember that the glasses are basically where the cameras are at.
04:24So if I want non-shaky video, I need a non-shaky head.
04:30And though, as I've just learned, walking and talking and keeping your head still
04:35takes a little bit of getting used to.
04:37Stabilization is already very good on these glasses
04:39and walking around and shooting gives you very good stability.
04:44Stabilization is already very good on these glasses
04:46and walking around and shooting gives you very usable footage.
04:51By default, these shades give you square 30 second clips
04:56though you could just stop recording at any time earlier than 30 seconds.
05:00After copying these shades, we walked around a whole lot
05:03and took a lot of photos and videos
05:05and I have to say I'm pretty impressed with the results thus far.
05:09These glasses connect to your phone via the Facebook view app
05:13which we'll talk about in a hot second
05:15but it's also just very convenient that it automatically downloads footage to your phone
05:22and you can share the footage on any other app that you wish.
05:26So I'm shooting with the smart glasses right now, don't believe me?
05:32Hi.
05:32And yeah, another notable thing, as you just heard that audio from the glasses,
05:37it's pretty good.
05:38The contact point for charging these glasses are over here
05:42and to start, there is a teeny button on the stem
05:45and this is where you turn the glasses on.
05:47Push to the side and hold to enter pairing mode for the first time.
05:52Indicator light lights up and the different colors on there mean different things.
05:56Setup is quite easy.
05:57The Facebook view app will walk you through everything
06:00and it'll even tell you the features of the smart glasses.
06:03So you can adjust volume, take calls.
06:06Take calls, notification, LV.
06:09So right now, I can actually see this on the side of my eye.
06:14It's not as distracting so that's cool.
06:20Done.
06:21Next.
06:24Don't share.
06:24Navigate to Huntington Gardens.
06:26Done.
06:28This app is where you'll find everything you've ever shot
06:31and if you take a photo with your glasses, you'll find them directly on here.
06:38Let's do that again.
06:41Hi.
06:44So as you can see, it immediately shows up here
06:48and from the app, you can send that clip anywhere.
06:52You can download it to your phone.
06:53You can edit it so you can trim your video.
06:57You can adjust all the different settings.
07:00You can enhance.
07:02And you can even crop so you can do landscape or portrait
07:05which is extra useful because like I told you,
07:07this thing shoots in squares.
07:09Another cool feature on here is creating montages
07:12so you can string together different clips
07:16and it'll give you an edit.
07:22On the other side here, you have favorites
07:23and up here, it tells you your battery levels,
07:26your general settings,
07:28your Facebook assistant settings,
07:30system alerts, privacy settings,
07:32and you have help and support.
07:33It's a pretty straightforward app
07:34and I personally like that they didn't make all the clips
07:38automatically forward to the Facebook app itself.
07:41Like I know it's still Facebook
07:42but at least it's a different app
07:44and from here, it's pretty easy to post it on other social media
07:48because let's be honest,
07:49we're all gonna be posting all of these things
07:51on other social media platforms.
07:53Now as I was running around this afternoon,
07:55I did get this warning.
07:56It was 100 degrees out
07:58and I was really putting this to the test
08:01because I was all excited over shooting photos and videos.
08:04I got the, your glasses are too hot to do anything prompt
08:08but I mean, let me tell you, they're not hot on my face.
08:12So we all good.
08:13Another funny thing that happened as I was shooting,
08:16I did run out of battery both on my phone
08:18and on the glasses.
08:20Don't ask, I didn't really charge.
08:22But what's cool is that even if I don't connect the glasses
08:26to the phone,
08:27it can still take photos and or videos.
08:30Oh, it works even if it's not connected to my actual phone.
08:36That's pretty cool.
08:38Which will transfer when you eventually connect your shades
08:41to your phone.
08:43There are built-in speakers on the stem of these glasses.
08:46This whole area also serves as your control.
08:48Tap once to play or pause the music.
08:51You can also swipe to adjust volume.
08:53Listen to this.
08:56So as you can hear, it's not exactly closed off to you.
09:05Okay, so Josh was listening to music right now
09:08and I am this near.
09:11I can sort of hear it.
09:12I think it's at like 65% volume.
09:14Yeah, and I can hear it.
09:15So it's definitely not one of those pairs
09:17where you sort of like listen
09:21and it's only you who can hear, yeah?
09:23And yeah, there are other gesture features.
09:25You can double tap to skip forward,
09:26triple tap to go back.
09:28And also, of course, this works for calls.
09:30So you can take calls with your glasses.
09:32You can tap to answer, tap to end,
09:35or tap and hold to reject a call.
09:38I gotta say as early as day one, I'm pretty impressed.
09:41Especially because when all is said and done
09:44and you run out of battery as you tend to do
09:46when you run around and try to shoot everything in sight.
09:50Say Facebook.
09:52Take a photo.
09:52So I have been out of battery, but the thing is,
09:56and I think this is the best thing about these glasses
09:59and in general, smart glasses that look good
10:02is that they work perfectly as just sunglasses.
10:06The only other tech power glasses that I felt similar about
10:09in terms of looks were the Huawei Gentle Monsters.
10:12This is a pair that I could just wear
10:14because of how light they were
10:15even on days when I didn't think I'd use the tech part.
10:18But even then, the Huawei Gentle Monsters
10:20only have speakers in them and no cameras.
10:23As someone who's always pushed for good looking
10:25and stylish gadgets and solely from a tech perspective,
10:28I am rooting for these glasses.
10:30Tech and style are very hard to balance.
10:33The Ray-Ban Stories have the most tech functionality
10:37and style of any glasses I've seen in the market thus far.
10:40And that was our look at the new Ray-Ban Stories.
10:43Let me know what you guys think.
