00:00I am joined by Robert Griffin III, James White, Field, Yates, Mena Kimes.
00:16All right, so first play we're going to look at, second and two, one of the Patriots' first
00:20offensive plays.
00:26Super slow today on this end, but it's Mike Calica, Taylor Kyles, back with another episode
00:31of Patriots Daily here on the C Atlantis Media Network, powered by PrizePix and GameTime.
00:37As always, we'll hear more from them later, but we got a mailbag for you today, folks.
00:41It's Wednesday.
00:42It's the turnover day going from the Texans to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
00:46So we asked for some of your questions on Twitter.
00:49If you have any more, start dropping them in the chat right now.
00:52We're going to get to as many as possible over the next half hour, 35 minutes, while
00:56we have you here on this lovely Wednesday.
00:59But first, we're going to hit on a couple quick Patriots topics that came down today.
01:03Me and Taylor just got back from Foxborough a little while ago, spoke with Gerard Mayo.
01:08I almost just said Mac Jones, Taylor, but it's not Mac Jones.
01:11It is Drake May.
01:12It's contagious.
01:13Yeah, it seriously is.
01:16But it's Drake May's second start coming up this weekend in London.
01:19Jalen Polk spoke today to Mark Daniels exclusively from MassLive.
01:23Some comments from him that we want to react to.
01:26And also an ESPN way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way too early mock draft coming
01:35from Jordan Reed on ESPN Plus, who does a great job with his draft coverage.
01:39He's one of their sort of core guys now over there at ESPN.
01:42And I want to react to that one first, Taylor, because what they do, especially when they're
01:47this early in the season, is they basically just flip the standings and go from one to
01:5232 that way.
01:53And right now, Patriots, according to standings, FPI, whatever ESPN uses, they would have the
01:58number two overall pick in the 2025 draft.
02:02And with that pick, Jordan Reed had them selecting none other than Colorado's Travis Hunter,
02:08wide receiver, cornerback, connoisseur, if you will, arguably, at least arguably to Alex
02:14Barth, who's obsessed with Ashton Jante from Boise State, arguably the best player in college
02:19football.
02:20I am one who says that Travis is the best player in college football.
02:22I think he's the Heisman front runner, plays both sides of the ball every single snap for
02:27Deion Sanders, Colorado Buffaloes.
02:29And Jordan Reed had the Patriots taking him at number two.
02:32Now, some banter back and forth today between some of our beat buddies, you, myself, Barth,
02:38Ryan, Evan, that that little group of contingents and a lot of people saying it's crazy.
02:44So and you're you're on that side, I think.
02:46So I want to hand it over to you first.
02:49Why should the Patriots not draft Travis Hunter with the second overall pick if that is the
02:55position that they're in?
02:57So when Bill Belichick actually broke it down, he looked at a lot of the receiving class
03:02I think last week or two weeks ago, and he mentioned what I've been saying, like we've
03:05been talking about Travis Hunter and all these guys, and I said, I really think that he's
03:08a cornerback because when you look at him, he kind of looks like Typhon Thornton, except
03:12not as tall like he's a thin guy.
03:15And I really worry about obviously like crazy stamina to be able to play back on defense
03:20and offense.
03:21Obviously, that's not going to happen in the NFL, though.
03:24Nobody's doing that.
03:25There's way too much punishment on your body.
03:26I don't care what position you're in.
03:27No one's playing wide receiver.
03:30Let him do it.
03:31No, it sucks.
03:32But like, we're not talking Deion Sanders here, like, you know, obviously, he's coached
03:36everything.
03:37But like, dudes aren't built like that anymore.
03:39Very, very different kind of game.
03:41So my big thing with Travis Hunter is I just think he's too small to hold up as a wide
03:44receiver as a guy who may have to go up and catch balls and fall down.
03:48Like think about Devontae Parker past couple of years, really throughout his career.
03:51Then Typhon Thornton.
03:52Those guys, when they go up for passes and they fall down with Parker, it was his game
03:56and just all that contact eventually just weighs on you.
03:59And then we've seen what's like one Thornton where against the Packers in a joint practice
04:02last year, he goes up for a pass, falls on his shoulder and gets hurt.
04:05Right.
04:06Now, obviously, that can happen on both sides of the ball.
04:08But as a wide receiver, you can't really make a ton of business decisions like you can choose.
04:12I'm going to go down or I'm going to go out of bounds, kind of like Tyler Lockett.
04:15But as a cornerback, you're not expected to make tackles quite as often.
04:19So you're not really taking on as much contact.
04:21That's why I really think he's a better fit at cornerback.
04:24And also just corner is such a difficult position.
04:26If you can play corner at a high level, I think you should probably stick there.
04:29I think Christian Gonzalez is in a similar spot where I know Coach Flight mentioned that
04:33he was playing receiver and they saw him play corner and they were like, whoa, whoa, whoa.
04:36No, no, no.
04:37You're going to stick with the defense back.
04:39So as talented as he is, obviously, I do not think he can hold up as a wide receiver.
04:44So if he's not a wide receiver for you, which is one of the two positions I'd be OK with
04:47the Patriots taking in the first round, he's still a cornerback.
04:51I don't think you take a cornerback as much as I would love to see him and Christian Gonzalez
04:55blocking down receivers every week.
04:57I just don't think that that's nearly important enough for the Patriots to go after with their
05:01first round pick.
05:02So obviously, you know, Travis Hunter is a fantastic player, but the Patriots have much
05:06bigger priorities.
05:07Get Ted McMillan.
05:08I think if there's a tackle you really like at that point in the top 10, if they're still
05:12there, take that guy.
05:13You can't go taking a cornerback.
05:15So I agree that they probably shouldn't take Travis Hunter with the second pick.
05:20Like I get all of that logic and all that reasoning.
05:23However, I just don't think it's as insane as some people because he is the best player
05:29in college football.
05:30He is one of the better cornerbacks in the nation, and he's one of the better wide receivers
05:35in the nation.
05:36So like you bring him in and you see what you have on him and you see what happens.
05:40And now, realistically, if they do have this, like I just I don't think they should do it,
05:44but I just don't think it's that crazy because it's not like they're reaching for a guy at
05:48the top of the draft.
05:49Right.
05:50He's going to go within those first couple of picks.
05:51Some team is going to take him and try and use them and try and make him a superstar,
05:56no matter what, you know, what phase of the game they do it in.
05:59Right.
06:00And so if the Patriots were to do that, I don't think I would necessarily think it's
06:04an insane move.
06:05But if they do have the second overall pick and they do have have all of it, it's insane.
06:13From the chat, who's going to play offensive line now?
06:17I don't want to just say they'll figure it out because I do think that if they do have
06:19the second pick, they should ultimately trade back.
06:22Go for, like you said, a Tep McMillan from Arizona or take one of the two offensive tackles
06:27in in Kelvin Banks and Will Campbell.
06:29So it wouldn't be the smartest decision, but they are also in need of a wide receiver.
06:34And Travis Hunter has shown that he can play wide receiver at an elite level in college
06:38football.
06:39Now, so did Taekwon Thornton and so have other guys who become busts in the NFL who are on
06:44the smaller side.
06:45Xavier Worthy.
06:46Again, I'm not saying Xavier is a bust just yet, but he's on the smaller side and he's
06:49shown that it's been difficult.
06:50There was a couple of preseason clips that I know you posted.
06:53I think you posted on Twitter.
06:55You got rocked because he was absolutely smoked off the line of scrimmage like it's going
06:59to be a challenge for him to come to the next level.
07:03Now this might be the crazy part that I think of Travis Hunter, and I know we're trying
07:07to do quick hitters here, but I still wonder, like, look, he's playing all every single
07:14snap in division one, big time, college football.
07:20Why can't he do it in the NFL?
07:22Like, and I'm not saying everything you're giving me the look.
07:25Every single play is a, is a force, but he's not going to like, he's playing every single
07:30snap at wide receiver, Colorado, put him in your wide wide receiver rotation and maybe
07:34play him in different sort of packages on defense and let them do both and let them
07:39shine at both and kind of, you don't want to spend a second overall pick though on a
07:43gadget player on both sides of the football.
07:45You want a guy who's going to play every single snap on one side of the ball.
07:48So I do understand it's a tricky situation, but at the end of the day, he's super talented.
07:53He's the best player in the country and he's going to go in the top five.
07:55So why not have the Patriots do it?
07:57Well, first off, he's a one dimensional receiver.
07:59Like as talented as he is, he runs like two or three routes.
08:03So to be a great NFL player, you need a lot of time at one spot.
08:07I think about the practice week, he's going to split time between receiver and cornerback
08:11as a full-time player on both sides of the ball.
08:13That's not going to happen, but he's doing it right now in college that he's doing it
08:16now.
08:17So he's used to it again as a wide receiver though.
08:19He's very underdeveloped.
08:20Like he's a very natural player.
08:23He's got great ball skills.
08:24He's got speed, all of that, but you would need to fully commit to playing one of those.
08:28And I think Belichick mentioned, he kind of likened him to Marcus Jones where he's a very
08:32good defensive back who can also, you know, give you some offensive production gadget
08:35plays that might work, but he's not going to play full time on both sides of the ball.
08:41Yeah, you're probably right.
08:42All right.
08:43Let's move on.
08:44Deion didn't play full time on both sides of the ball.
08:46He like contributed on offense because I think they had injuries or something like that.
08:49So, you know, it's just multi-sport athlete is what Deion was, but yeah, I just, that's
08:53not how the NFL works.
08:54If you take too much punishment, these guys are too good, you know, that's just not feasible.
08:59I think we can both agree that it's going to be exciting to see what happens with Travis
09:03Hunter at the next level.
09:04But I think we both also agree that we probably don't want it to be the Patriots that have
09:08to try and decide what exactly is going to happen because he's a hell of a player, but
09:11it's going to be a tough dilemma and he's going to go at the top of the first round.
09:15And it's not Travis Hunter hate.
09:16I'm reading the, this isn't hate.
09:18I've said it three.
09:19He's going to win the Heisman.
09:20He's the best player in the country.
09:21He's he's incredible and he does both at an elite level.
09:25It's just difficult to see it translating fully on both sides at the next level.
09:29So let's continue on.
09:31Let's talk about another Patriots or not another Patriots wide receiver, but the Patriots wide
09:35receivers currently on the roster and that's Jalen Polk who drawed Mayo talked about it.
09:40I believe it was after Sunday's game or maybe Monday morning at one of his press conferences
09:44post Texans game and said that Jalen Holt, Jalen Polk has a mental hump to get over in
09:49order to eliminate the drop passes that he's had over the last couple of weeks.
09:53Taylor, we had the numbers on yesterday's film show, not off the top of my head.
09:57Don't remember them, but basically weeks one through three, Polk was super consistent catching
10:02a majority of his targets.
10:04And over the last three weeks, he's caught, I believe five out of 19.
10:07So not great from his end, but Jalen Polk actually spoke today to mass lives.
10:11Mark Daniels saying, I'm not dealing with the mental problems at all.
10:15And even said that he has the best hands in the NFL, despite all of the drops.
10:19So Taylor, your immediate reaction to Jalen Polk's comments today with Mark Daniels.
10:24I think he needs to stop being so vocal, to be honest, and I'm not Mr.
10:29Like silence players or anything, but this is the second time he's made a comment.
10:32Basically, there was in the Dolphins game when he thought he got both feet down.
10:37He was very adamant that he was in and all that.
10:39And it's like, nah, man, I'm sorry, by the letter of the law, you were not.
10:42Maybe the rookie, back off a little bit, show a little more humility, I think.
10:48And I don't like telling people what to say, but it's just because it's not true.
10:52Like you don't have the best hands in the NFL.
10:53You've been in the NFL for six weeks in terms of the regular season.
10:56Like bro, like kind of ease off that a little bit.
10:58And I have the numbers here.
10:59So it's been targeted 16 times since week four.
11:03It's got five of those passes.
11:04He said he had two drops on three targets against the Texans.
11:07And we broke it down on our show.
11:08Make sure you check out.
11:10We talked about how Drake made his help unlocking the sophomore receivers, but
11:13the rookie receivers obviously aren't really playing well enough for
11:17the coaches liking.
11:18And part of that is because not only was he dropping passes,
11:20he also ran the wrong route one time and another time.
11:24Didn't look at Drake May on the last play of the game for the offense.
11:27For whatever reason, Drake basically had to throw blind and
11:30took a hit because his receiver kind of hung him out to dry.
11:33So I disagree with that.
11:34Now, they're not counted as drops by PFF because against the 49ers,
11:39he had one punched out.
11:40I think it was similar.
11:41He had two drops against the 49ers.
11:43I don't know why they didn't call the second one because he extended it,
11:46bounced off his hands on a dig and almost got intercepted.
11:49I don't know why that didn't count.
11:51But he also had a drop against the Dolphins where Jalen Ramsey was also right
11:56there and he was making contact.
11:58But if you're Jalen Polk, you're not gonna get a lot of separation.
12:00You need to make the catches.
12:02And then the first drop, it's all these hitches.
12:04I feel like almost every single one is a curl or
12:06a hitch where he's trying to sell vertical, come back to the ball.
12:09First time it's kind of contested deeper downfield, he drops it.
12:11But the second drop that he had was bad.
12:13He's open, not very far downfield, just flat out dropped the ball.
12:17Whether he's got a mental hurdle, maybe he doesn't see it that way and
12:20he was maybe offended by the wording.
12:22We don't know the tone that he used.
12:23We just read it, so not totally sure.
12:25But yeah, no, Jalen Polk does have an issue.
12:27He needs to be more consistent.
12:29And whether he agrees or not, we may end up seeing it in the lineup.
12:32Because we've seen these coaches are not hesitant to make you play less.
12:35And we're already seeing Jalen Polk, he played 55 snaps against the Dolphins.
12:39He played 55 snaps against the Dolphins, 40 last week against the Texans.
12:43And you know who's snap count is going up?
12:45Kendrick Bourne.
12:46So it's like they don't need him in the rotation.
12:48Obviously he's talented, we wanna see the guy thrive.
12:51But I mean, he's gotta also own up, he's not playing well enough.
12:54No, I get that.
12:55And I think, realistically, him saying that he has the best hands in the NFL.
12:59And I think that's more of just a, I'm uber confident in myself, right?
13:03And I'm not gonna let anybody else tell me that I can't do this.
13:06And so on one hand, it's like, okay, he believes in himself.
13:11And I think that's a good thing to have.
13:12Instead of, he's not feeling sorry for himself.
13:14He's not sitting there and saying, yeah, I stink and I need, no, I can do this.
13:18I just need to get through it.
13:19I got nothing going on in my head.
13:21But at the same time, you're right, you do have to own up to it.
13:23And be like, look, I messed up and I'm gonna get better from it.
13:25And here's why, because I do have this confidence in myself.
13:28So it is sort of a messaging thing.
13:30But I think you're right, where you kinda gotta back it up before you start saying
13:34you have the best hands in the NFL.
13:35Now, another thing he mentioned is that he's sort of,
13:39A, waiting for an opportunity to get better.
13:40But he's also been limited in what he's able to do on the field.
13:44And Polk was playing a majority of the Z receiver role to start the year.
13:48And that's sort of where he had all the success.
13:50And again, it wasn't-
13:52We saw the flashes.
13:53Yeah, flashes.
13:54Success is maybe a little strong because he obviously hasn't been great this year.
13:58But that's where we saw the flashes and more consistency in targets.
14:00Last couple weeks, Kendrick Bourne comes back.
14:03He sort of rotates and starts playing in more of the X receiver role.
14:06And that's where he seemingly sounds like his role has been limited.
14:10So do you think that needs to change in order for Polk to get better?
14:13Do you think it's a scheme thing?
14:14Do you think it's a fit in this system?
14:16Why do you think Jalen Polk feels like he's limited in what he can do?
14:21Yeah, last week, friend of the show, Matt Harmon,
14:23really hit it on the head of perception, perception that Jalen Polk is a Z.
14:27He's a slot.
14:28We already knew when he came out of the draft that he wasn't an ideal X receiver
14:31because he's not gonna create a ton of separation.
14:33He's not exceptionally big, and he's not exceptionally fast.
14:36But he is a good football player.
14:38Now, I think part of it is the fact that Mayo also touched on blocking.
14:42He raved about Polk's blocking when they drafted him.
14:44But he hasn't really made a lot of impact plays in that regard.
14:48You know who has?
14:49Keyshawn Booty, the guy who now in a lot of those base person,
14:52or in some of those three receiver sets, is the Z receiver.
14:55So he's been making the blocks, and he's close to the line of scrimmage and
14:58close to the play.
14:59So because he's been blocking well, yeah, you want him in that role.
15:02And then Kendrick Bourne, obviously a veteran, he knows what to do, and
15:05he's been a good blocker in the past.
15:06So they've really been the main Zs the past couple weeks, or at least last week.
15:10Because as we know, Kendrick Bourne really just got his feet wet
15:13against the Dolphins.
15:14But yeah, he's not built to play X because at X,
15:16he's basically just running goes, slants, and hitches.
15:19That's the entire route tree because you're near the sideline.
15:22You can't really run a ton of outbreaking routes unless you're closer inside
15:25the numbers, but with their scheme, that X is usually outside the numbers.
15:28So yeah, he is limited schematically because he doesn't have the field to work
15:32with like he would more often as a Z or in the slot.
15:35But at the same time, bro, no block, no rock.
15:37You gotta earn that spot.
15:38Keyshawn Booty's out playing you.
15:39Kendrick Bourne is established on this team.
15:42You need to earn a role.
15:43So yeah, I absolutely agree that it's not the easiest position for him to play X
15:46because it's not a natural fit.
15:48But if you have other guys that are doing their jobs better and the Z role is going
15:52to be the one where you typically see more throws on play action, RPOs and
15:57things like that, you may be more involved than you would at X.
15:59So that's really just what it comes down to.
16:01And I wonder too, Taylor, and this is sort of going to be our last segment
16:05until we break for a second and get into the mailbag.
16:07But I wonder if that turns into Jalen Polk, frankly, being benched right now.
16:12Somebody who they can't trust, who's not catching the football,
16:14he's not running the right routes all the time.
16:16Because Gerard Mayo mentioned today that they will be making some lineup changes
16:21and shakeups because they're just not getting it done.
16:23And there's guys out there that they don't have confidence in,
16:25in doing the right things.
16:27He mentioned-
16:28I will say to that point, I feel like that's more about the defense.
16:31Okay, that's-
16:32Offensive shakeups could be there as well.
16:34But I do think, just because Javon Baker hasn't proved it either,
16:37Taekwon Fortin was a healthy scratch after playing one snap.
16:40So it's like, they're also not really flushed with options at wide receiver.
16:43I think they're still going to stick with Polk.
16:45But I think this may be another week where we see more of Kendrick Bourne.
16:48That's a good point.
16:49I think Kendrick Polk-
16:50Kendrick Polk.
16:51Kendrick Bourne becoming healthier, Jalen Polk sort of dying off a little bit.
16:55Instead of letting him figure it out on the field,
16:58maybe there's a little bit of a discrepancy in the reps.
17:00But that's the offensive side of the football.
17:01I did want to hand it over to you, to the defensive side of the football.
17:04Now, we talked about this a little bit in our standup today down in Foxborough,
17:07which you can check out our sort of full evaluation on the matter
17:10on Patriots Press Pass, and make sure you check out that video as well.
17:13But Mayo mentions lineup shakeup, lineup shakeups,
17:17and the defense letting up 41 points last week,
17:20getting gashed in the run game, clearly unacceptable.
17:23What do you make of Mayo's comments?
17:24What do you expect to see on the defensive side of the ball
17:27that does change moving forward?
17:28Yeah, we're going to touch on some of that stuff tomorrow.
17:31We're going to do a key matchup.
17:32Move away from what we've been doing in the past,
17:34where usually we bring a guest on with the Patriots.
17:37They're one and five right now, so I know people don't really care about that.
17:40We're going to get more in the film regarding the Patriots
17:42and kind of give you more on that perspective.
17:43We'll tease.
17:44But I think the one that stands out the most is Raekwon McMillan.
17:48I also asked Rod Mayo about the linebackers.
17:50He said that they are not playing well enough and that they've got to do better.
17:53And Raekwon McMillan is the name that kind of flashes on the billboard for you
17:57because he's been a huge liability in the run game.
18:00If he doesn't diagnose the play quickly and shoot down and plug the gap,
18:03he's usually going to get washed out or he's going to end up overrunning it,
18:06like outside zone.
18:07Within a couple of weeks, it seemed like he overran the play
18:09and then they cut back against him for huge gains.
18:11They're on gap.
18:12Like, he's just kind of getting manhandled.
18:14So I think he could end up getting benched.
18:16They've been trying to get Jelani Tavae to play more Mike linebacker,
18:19like Jawan Bentley, where I think he actually looks pretty good.
18:22Like, they've had Christian Ellis at weak side linebacker.
18:25They've used Sione Taketaki.
18:26Obviously, he was activated last week.
18:28They've had him in that adjuster role where he plays on the line of scrimmage
18:31and off the line of scrimmage.
18:32So I think that's what they want to do, is they want to have more.
18:35Like, Christian Ellis has earned his snaps.
18:36He's mostly been a dime linebacker, but he's been pretty good there.
18:39So I think they're trying to get him some more opportunities on base downs.
18:42But really, I think the ideal lineup that they're going to have
18:44is probably Jelani Tavae, middle linebacker, Sione Taketaki
18:48as that guy who moves on and off on early downs.
18:51Christian Ellis is your dime.
18:52And then also Keon White.
18:55Now, Keon is kind of like Leighton Robinson for me, where they're raw
18:58and they make a lot of plays.
19:00And it's like, yeah, I see why you like this guy.
19:02Like, Keon White has made plenty of impactful run stops.
19:05But also, if you look at the explosive runs that they've given up,
19:07he's at the point of attack almost all the time.
19:09A lot of these offenses are attacking that pass rushing defensive end
19:12they use in their odd fronts, which is Dietrich Wise or Keon White.
19:16Dietrich, you definitely do expect it.
19:18Like, this has happened for years where he gives you more pass rush.
19:20And he's good against the run.
19:22But if you double him, there's not a whole lot he can do.
19:24And with Keon, sometimes it's single blocks
19:26where he'll get completely washed out or he'll kind of go upfield
19:29rather than hold his ground and shed and go inside.
19:32And that's been a pretty consistent issue for him.
19:34So I think maybe a lesser role for Keon White on early downs.
19:37I really think if you want to unlock him and play him at his best,
19:40he's really an interior pass rusher.
19:42That's the best role that he has right now.
19:44Still solid as a stand up outside linebacker or edge on rundowns,
19:49but still been very inconsistent.
19:50So frankly, I'd like to see on those early downs
19:53more of the beefier three defensive tackle packages where it's like Godshaw,
19:57Jeremiah Farms, Daniel Equality, or however you want to mix it up.
20:00Eric Johnson, Jaqueline Roy in the middle, whatever it is like enough of this.
20:04Like you're not getting pass rush anyway.
20:06Keon White's not giving you a ton of pass rush
20:07when he's on the field on base downs.
20:09Dietrich Wise is giving you some, but it also takes him a while to win.
20:12So if you're really worried about the run and like Tank Bigsby
20:15has been one of the most efficient running backs in the NFL, beef up.
20:18Stop the run.
20:19Like we already know you're probably going to get to the faster anyway.
20:22Maybe some simulated pressures up the middle.
20:23I don't know.
20:24But like I it's been a consistent problem
20:27where they keep running at the same people.
20:29So the rest of the defense, I think they've been doing like Godshaw
20:32leads the NFL in run stops.
20:34He's been playing fantastic.
20:36Daniel Equality has been solid, especially in a bigger role.
20:39Jelani Tobias has not been good in coverage, but he has been good as a run stopper.
20:42Like most of these guys are doing their jobs and they're doing them well.
20:45Or like Marte Mapu, where you're kind of being put in a tough spot
20:48because he really shouldn't be near the line of scrimmage.
20:50But Joe Peppers, you know, is has his situations.
20:53Right. Rayquan McMillan is the name that stands out for me
20:55in terms of guys who might get benched.
20:58And that's really pretty much it.
20:59Marcus Jones was flagged twice last week.
21:01One was B.S. Dietrich Wise, who was talking about penalties
21:04and disappointing all that.
21:05He had an offside penalty that wiped out a third downstop, almost led to score.
21:10But the Texans ended up missing the field goal.
21:14So, you know, those are the names I'm thinking of.
21:16But really, it's McMillan that stands out the most and maybe just a lesser role
21:19for Keon White.
21:20We will see what happens.
21:21Patriots lose five straight.
21:22Something's got to give as they head over to London.
21:25Let's get into the bail bag, Taylor.
21:26But before we do, a quick word from our friends over at Price Picks.

22:39Price Picks run your game.
22:41All right. Here we go, Taylor.
22:43Let's do some questions.
22:44And again, if you guys have questions, Patriots questions, Jags questions,
22:48anything in between, throw them in the chat.
22:50We'll try and get to those here.
22:52So hello, beast mode. How are you?
22:55All right. Here we go.
22:57Offensive line.
22:58We talked about it a little bit on Monday's mailbag.
23:00We've talked about it.
23:01Really, it's it's it's the topic that everybody wants to know about, Taylor.
23:03But where do you put the blame on the state of the offensive line?
23:07Now you've been
23:11one to not blame the front office and sort of put it on the injuries.
23:15But if there is if there is a place to blame, what's wrong with it?
23:18Because there's no denying it's in the numbers.
23:19It's in the product that their offensive line is not great.
23:23And if the question says you think offensive line
23:26will be a priority with a rookie quarterback.
23:27But I think this guy understands that it's not always that simple.
23:30So he might be on your side.
23:32Yeah, I mean, I have the injury bug more than anything.
23:35And I know that's not a fun answer, but coaches are usually the first ones
23:39where when it comes to injury, they're like, yeah, but we need to play better.
23:42Scott Peters has acknowledged that Gerard May was acknowledged several times.
23:46It's tough. They have a different lineup every single week.
23:49Now we've seen Vardarian Lowe and Michael Jordan both far exceed expectation.
23:53Right. Vardarian Lowe looks like a guy who at first we thought was really
23:57just purely a backup this year.
23:58He looks like a legitimate spot starter, maybe even a low end starter.
24:02Honestly, if he had stayed on the field, who knows how much further he'd get?
24:05Michael Jordan hasn't been great, but he's been solid.
24:07And this is a guy who was on teams practice squads for several weeks.
24:11Ben Brown right now played so well after getting to the team.
24:15Not even on Monday.
24:16I think he got there on like Wednesday or Thursday play so well.
24:18They feel comfortable enough to cut Nick Leverett for whatever reason.
24:21We still don't know for sure.
24:22Wish we'd asked him about that earlier today.
24:24But like Ben Brown has been playing pretty well.
24:26Obviously, teams have film on him now.
24:28Maybe they'll try to exploit him with some more explosive rushers.
24:31Who knows?
24:32But you still got a quality performance out of that guy.
24:34No unblocked pressures last week for the Patriots.
24:36That was the first time all season.
24:38A lot of that has to do with Drake May, but also a lot of that's Ben Brown
24:41just clogging up the middle.
24:43Mike and Wenu has definitely not played as well as you would expect.
24:45I don't really know why.
24:47It just feels like last week.
24:48I know there are some of their combo blocks.
24:50I mean, Michael Jordan didn't look quite as good.
24:52Couldn't really get to the second level very often or pick up those guys
24:55when they blitzed, which is tough for a big guy like him.
24:57But still, you expect Mike and Wenu to be far from one of your main problems.
25:01And I think he's been one of the issues.
25:03But like so we always talk about it like this.
25:06Imagine if the offensive line was what it looked like
25:09in the beginning of the summer or like once the Darian Lowe got into the lineup.
25:12We're talking Lowe, City.
25:14So David Andrews, maybe, you know, Mike and Wenu, Chukso Correfour.
25:18That's a solid lineup.
25:19I really think of that group with chemistry.
25:22I think they'd be fine.
25:23Would they be great?
25:24It's a good word for it.
25:25But like, I don't think they'd be bottom ten necessarily.
25:28Chukso Correfour has started games at right tackle.
25:30But Darian Lowe, like we said, has looked good.
25:32City's a little bit more of a wild card.
25:34And Wenu again isn't playing well.
25:36But on paper, you're looking at the lineup and saying this is pretty damn good.
25:39And then when you talk about Demontre Jacobs, Zach Thomas, guys
25:42that they got right after roster cuts who have played pretty significant roles
25:46for them relative to what we probably would have expected earlier.
25:48So I really just think they've been put in a bad spot.
25:51I think you see the flashes of wow, especially on the left side
25:54when Lowe and Jordan are together.
25:55You're like, if we had this every week, I don't think like line games
25:59are as much of a problem on the left side.
26:01You can tell they have a decent feel for how each other work.
26:03Like it literally is night and day when you look at the right side
26:06compared to the left when those guys are healthy.
26:08So I don't really think it's about putting blame anywhere.
26:11I think the front office has genuinely done their best.
26:13You can definitely critique some of the things that they did,
26:15you know, not bringing in Jonah Williams was one that we talked about.
26:19I still don't know if he even would have come here.
26:20And the injury thing, I think that's a stupid reason to be like, oh, look,
26:23what if they had signed him?
26:24Because like you don't know if you would have gotten in.
26:26Yeah, right.
26:26Butterfly effect. Yeah.
26:28Right. I think he may have a history with an injury.
26:29I don't really know too much about that.
26:31But butterfly effect. Yeah.
26:33So I just I really think that the injuries have been extremely tough.
26:35So I think the coaches have done
26:37a really good job considering what they've had to deal with.
26:39And the front office is on a solid job
26:42giving them some players during the season that can play, you know,
26:46a functional level of football for them.
26:49I think you're I think you can,
26:52I guess, critique now the signings of Okorafor and Leverett
26:57because they didn't work out.
26:59And so did they know a did they know Nick Leverett would get hurt
27:03or maybe didn't want to be here after what happened last week?
27:06Again, we don't know what's going on with him,
27:07but he's obviously not on the team anymore.
27:09So in theory, not a good signing because he's gone.
27:11Same with Chooks Okorafor, where he doesn't want to play here anymore
27:14and he leaves. So looking at it now, not good signings.
27:17But I think you're right when you say that original starting
27:21offensive line without injuries.
27:22Low. So Andrews on Wenu, Chooks is fine.
27:27And could you have done more than that? Sure.
27:30But it's not like they didn't try at all.
27:31And then so that's my big thing. Critique that.
27:34They just were like, oh, we're fine on the offensive line.
27:37They got more guards when they already had guards.
27:39Right. Critique that.
27:41Critique that first five offensive line. Fine.
27:43But you can't critique really.
27:44You you can critique where they are now, but it's not right,
27:47I don't think, to put this on the front office
27:49because when the injury bug comes through, that's just something
27:52you can't really you can't really predict and you can't really have happened.
27:56Yeah. Go one more thing.
27:58Also, we always forget about this.
27:59People like, oh, you had Nick Leverett as your backup playing at center.
28:02And I understand that that was still a new position to him.
28:04And he acknowledged that to me.
28:05But at the same time, who was the backup center at the beginning of the year?
28:08What they expected on paper was Jake Andrews.
28:10Yeah, right. He's got hurt.
28:12So it's like it's very hard for me to sit here and say, yeah, man,
28:15they really relax the day school last year.
28:18Like, I still kind of defended the front office
28:20because it was another year where I didn't really love the tackles in free agency.
28:23And I feel like a lot of that proved to be right.
28:25Tackles in the draft weren't all that good either, really,
28:27unless you wanted to get one in the first round was Broderick Jones.
28:30He's not even playing well.
28:31So like it really I think the biggest issue for me when we talk about tackle
28:35is that they probably could have addressed this years ago
28:37when Isaiah Wynn was constantly getting hurt
28:39and it was very inconsistent when he was on the field.
28:41You could have addressed it like two or three years ago, but you chose not to.
28:44That's right.
28:44And now it's being compounded because you know what tackles are hard to find
28:48and you had a lot more holes that you had to fill.
28:50So, you know, I think they made the effort.
28:52You can debate the moves.
28:53But yeah, I just I think injuries crushed them.
28:56It's been tough.
28:56So with the injuries and with the trade deadline coming up, Taylor,
29:00should they panic?
29:01And by panic, I mean, call the Cleveland Browns,
29:03who are seemingly in a fire sale right now and call about Jedrick
29:07Wills of Jack Conklin.
29:09This old man mob says Wills is a free agent after this year.
29:11Conklin, 30 years old.
29:13So do you think they should try and fix this problem through the trade market?
29:16Do you think they should sort of just wait and tackle this in the draft next year?
29:21So my buddy, Andre Weingarten, actually did suggest
29:25a couple of interesting options.
29:26He suggested trading for Taylor Moten.
29:29I think that's how you pronounce his name from the Panthers
29:31or Colton Miller from the Raiders.
29:33Now, both those guys are about 30 years old, but they're good players.
29:36Now, Moten, I think, is someone who's more been on the right side.
29:38I think Colton Miller can play right or left
29:41if they want to do something like that.
29:42Maybe resign those guys to the next, like, you know, extend them
29:44maybe to like a two more years on their contract.
29:47So you got some time, you know, build that rapport.
29:49I'd like that.
29:51I don't know about the tackle.
29:52So Jack Conklin's always hurt, bro, unless it's like a conditional sixth round pick.
29:56I'm not biting on that.
29:58And then Jedrick Wills, you know, I don't know if they want to get rid of Jedrick
30:02Wills. I think that's a red flag.
30:03You know what I'm saying?
30:04Yeah, like he's a young player.
30:05If he's if you're willing to trade it before his contract is up
30:09as a team that, you know, you have Dwan Jones, but he's not a left tackle.
30:12I think that if that were to happen, I'd be like,
30:15why do you want to get rid of him so bad?
30:16You know, so I don't I don't want that idea.
30:18And this sort of goes to
30:21to this question here.
30:22And I want to kind of wrap up the the offensive line talk
30:25because it just it gets stale.
30:27And I think we all know that this offensive line isn't that good.
30:30They again, you can argue if they did their best or not in free and say whatever,
30:34but it's not good and it needs to be fixed.
30:36So do you think they should feel offensive line through the draft?
30:39Should they do that through veterans next season?
30:42I know it's only August or October 16, but we did mock draft talk.
30:46The Patriots are one in five.
30:47They're probably not playing for much this year.
30:49So looking ahead to next season, what position should they fill through the draft
30:52and what should they try to fill through veterans next offseason?
30:56I'm going to kind of cop out on this because, one, I don't really know
30:59the draft prospects very well, and two, we don't even know
31:02what veterans are going to hit free agency and, you know, those situations.
31:05So I'm kind of going to punt on this, but I will I will say the positions
31:08I want them to fill, period,
31:09because I don't really care if it's an experienced guy or what.
31:12Like you just need talent.
31:13So I would say left tackle and wide receiver.
31:15Those need to obviously be your absolute top priority.
31:18So just get players who you think can be instant contributors.
31:21That's the bottom line.
31:22Like receiver, you need a true X.
31:25Then you need a left tackle.
31:26You know, maybe Caden Wallace, they start repping him at left.
31:29But, you know, whatever happens there, I would rather just have the right tackle.
31:32Like you have another swing at it.
31:33Just get a guy who's been there for his entire career.
31:35So you don't have to worry about the whole switching sides thing.
31:38Then cornerback.
31:39And I think edge are huge, huge areas are going to have to fill.
31:42Cornerback. So Travis Hunter.
31:46Cornerback, I think, is one where you either get a veteran
31:48or you can maybe get like a mid round pick, because I don't think it has to be
31:51like a dude, but I think you need someone with size who can hang
31:54with some of the bigger receivers, because like you got Marco Wilson,
31:57you got Isaiah Bolden, they got size, but like they're kind of just guys right now.
32:01They're not really dudes or anything like that.
32:02Marcus Jones, he's a dude in the slot.
32:04Gonzo, obviously a dude on that one bookend.
32:07But Jon Jones might not even play next season.
32:09So that might be a whole edge we already know.
32:11Like they need to do something.
32:12I don't know if Joshua Uche is going to be here next year.
32:15So I think edge rusher maybe is one of your earlier draft picks, like third round,
32:18unless you can get a veteran on the market that's your scheme.
32:22But yeah, those are really the big ones.
32:23Like I think you got to address those two premium positions on both sides of the ball.
32:28But for the defense, I think you can maybe wait till the middle rounds
32:31or get a free agent.
32:32But when it comes to receiver and tackle, like those need to be guys
32:35who can come in and immediately be very sizable contributors for you.
32:39I think so, too.
32:40Wide receiver tackle one and two.
32:42They sort of hit on wide receiver with the second round pick
32:45this year in in Jalen Polk.
32:48And they obviously go with Baker as well.
32:49But you still need sort of that tier one, a one guy.
32:52And whether that be through vet, through vet, signing a veteran or through
32:58through the draft, well, I guess we'll see what happens.
32:59Like you said, you don't exactly know who's going to come up,
33:02who's going to be available on the trade market.
33:04If T Higgins is going to stay franchise again, if they let him test the market.
33:07So there's a ton of factors.
33:09But I think obviously tackle wide receiver one and two cornerback as well.
33:12And I want to kind of tie Jonathan Jones, as you mentioned that
33:16into this next question, because you don't know if Jon Jones is going to play next year.
33:19He's 31 years old.
33:21He's I believe he was on the injury report again today with an injury.
33:24He's someone who's been sort of banged up.
33:25But he's also somebody, Taylor,
33:27that I think they could dangle on the trade market if they do want to be sellers here.
33:30So do you see the Patriots entering the trade market?
33:33Should they trade older players like Kendrick Bourne, who was,
33:36you know, dangled in the in the Brandon Ayoub trade discussions?
33:40He's somebody they could potentially trade out Jonathan Jones as well.
33:44And the question comes in as some as the guy saying that,
33:48you know, these guys do deserve to play now and compete now and compete
33:51for titles now they're at the back end of their career.
33:52So I will just answer this one first and say that
33:56I do think Jonathan Jones is someone who maybe could be
33:59potentially out there if a team's looking for a cornerback.
34:01I know it stinks.
34:02He's been a guy here forever and someone who been a leader here,
34:07won a Super Bowl, won a couple of Super Bowls, I believe,
34:09and has been a patriot for life.
34:11But if you can get something for him,
34:14similar to my stance on like Matthew Judon, where if he's not in your
34:18plans beyond this season, then trade him.
34:21I think Jonathan Jones could be a potential guy in that mix as someone
34:24who they could try and try and get something for and try and build
34:27towards the future.
34:28I think they need to retain John Jones,
34:30because I think they're losing so many leaders on the defensive side of the ball.
34:34Yeah, like right now, we don't know what's going to happen, obviously,
34:36but like they don't have Peppers.
34:38They lost you on Bentley.
34:40I know that Jonathan Jones is more in that Kyle Dugger mold
34:42where they're more quiet leaders.
34:44But we've heard Mike Pellegrino freaking raves about Jonathan Jones.
34:48Yeah, also, frankly, selfish.
34:49You would like to see him retire as a patriot because, again,
34:51you get to play next season.
34:53I don't know that I trade him,
34:54especially because I don't think the depth behind him is very good.
34:57Like, yes, you want to get pieces for the future,
35:00but also you want to be competitive.
35:02And I think if you trade John Jones, you're throwing Marcus
35:04Marco Wilson out there.
35:05And then maybe I say a bold and who's barely played for whatever reason,
35:08probably because he hasn't earned more of a role.
35:10I think if he was doing it behind the scenes and playing well,
35:12then we would see him get some role maybe over Marco Wilson.
35:15So I wouldn't like Jonathan Jones.
35:17Kendrick Bourne, we know that they were thinking about floating him
35:20in a trade with Brandon Ayuk.
35:22If you were going to trade
35:23Kendrick Bourne, it would have to be for that kind of like
35:26difference making wide receiver, because I do not think one.
35:29I think the energy that he brings really is pretty significant.
35:32Although Drake May's confidence in his swagger obviously helps.
35:35But we've already mentioned it.
35:37It's not, you know, if Jalen Polk isn't going to play.
35:39All right, then, like, who's it going to be?
35:41Yeah, that's a good point.
35:42A lot more thin than I thought we thought it would be
35:45a little bit earlier this season or maybe in the summer.
35:47So are there guys that could trade away?
35:48I'm looking at the roster now.
35:51It's kind of the same problem as last year.
35:52You don't have a lot of players that people would probably want
35:54in the ones that you do have.
35:56You don't really have the depth just be getting rid of them
35:58because you wouldn't have a competitive enough roster situation at that spot.
36:02So are there any names that stand out to you?
36:04I don't see anybody who I would think any team would be knocking
36:07on their door for that.
36:07They could also afford to lose.
36:09I think mine's Jonathan Jones.
36:10And the only reason I know they, I guess, can't afford to lose them.
36:13But, I mean, maybe it's it's not the mindset that the team's in.
36:17But my mindset on it is, OK, so what?
36:20You have to mend the fence for the rest of the season
36:22with Marco Wilson and Isaiah Bolden, like you're one in five
36:25and you're not playing for anything this season anyway.
36:27So if you can get a decent pick for him, OK, you you.
36:31Gonzo takes on the first guy and you figure it out
36:33with the rest of the Marcus Jones is playing decent football as well.
36:35So figure it out and get to the end of the season
36:38and you get something out of Jonathan Jones.
36:40That's really my thought on it.
36:41But besides that, I don't want Kendrick Bourne to be gone.
36:43They signed him to a three year deal for a reason.
36:45I think they see him as a, you know, in here for not just the short term,
36:50but a little bit more so of the long term, too, as they get through this rebuild.
36:53But I do think Jonathan Jones is one guy.
36:55Besides that, I don't really see many other huge trade ships for them.
36:59Yeah, somewhat.
37:01That's what happens when you're not a very good thing.
37:03Exactly. All right.
37:04Word from game time before we wrap this thing up
37:06with a couple more of your questions.
37:08And if you head over to game time right now,

37:22but haven't bought your tickets yet,
37:24make sure you head over to game time and use code CLNS.

37:29Their terms apply.
37:30They have the game time picks feature and it filters out the fluff

37:38You can also see your seat view right on the app.

38:07What time is it, Taylor?
38:08Game time.
38:09It is game time.
38:10All right.
38:10Couple more.
38:11I am going to go to the chat because there were a couple decent questions in there
38:15and then we can wrap up with some of the preloaded questions.
38:19If you just give me one second.
38:23I had one.
38:24Oh, here we go.
38:26Do you believe Ramondre will play this week, Taylor?
38:28Now, the injury report did just come out.
38:30He was a DNP with that foot injury.
38:33And I would say that I'm led to believe that that injury was a little bit worse than they
38:39let on at first, only because he didn't practice all week last week.
38:43He didn't.
38:43He was ruled out early on Friday when realistically they were the home team.
38:48So they didn't have to rule him out till Sunday.
38:50They could have sort of let him work through it.
38:52They did not have to rule him out because they weren't traveling.
38:55Right.
38:55So it wasn't like he didn't get on the plane.
38:57So he's not playing.
38:58They could have tried to work him through Sunday, but they knew Friday he ain't playing.
39:02After the game, he said it was fine.
39:04I feel like that was also him talking out of adrenaline because he had just got rolled
39:09up upon.
39:09He went out back out there and continued to play.
39:12Obviously, I'm sure the thing swelled up like a balloon after that game the other day, but
39:17still no practice today for Ramondre.
39:18So I wonder if they do end up having to continue with Antonio Gibson as their lead back.
39:24Yeah, I kind of want this in and we can talk about the injury report because it came out
39:27while we were streaming.
39:29Ramondre did not participate today with a foot injury.
39:32I would lean towards no, honestly, because it's got a quick turnaround this week.
39:35They're flying to London tomorrow.
39:37I think that's a lot to ask him, which stinks.
39:40But also, I think the Jaguars have one of the better run defenses in the NFL.
39:44One of the things we're going to talk about the preview tomorrow.
39:46I think this is the week that you do air it out with Drake May and then also did not
39:50participate.
39:50Marcus Jones wasn't there.
39:51We didn't know why.
39:52At first, we now know it was because of a groin injury as well as an illness.
39:55But Darian low ankle did not participate.
39:59He didn't know if Darian Lowe was going to practice, but he did kind of leave the door
40:02open to potentially playing this weekend.
40:05Some other guys that stood out on the injury report.
40:07No additions other than Drake May.
40:12Knee injury, but he was a full participant.
40:14Maybe he'll have like a brace or something on.
40:16Who knows how serious it is.
40:17Like, I don't think he had anything on during practice.
40:19No, he didn't.
40:20Yeah, it's not anything that serious.
40:21Again, he's a full participant.
40:23Did we know that Devon gotcha had an elbow injury?
40:25Was that new?
40:25Yeah, he was on there last week with that.
40:27Okay, yeah.
40:27So yeah, those are the big ones.
40:28Marcus Jones, Romandre Stevenson.
40:30I do not think Romandre is going to play this week.
40:32Sneaky big one for me is just that Kendrick Bourne has been upgraded to a full participant.
40:36Oh, I didn't call.
40:37Yes, he was.
40:38He was limited ever since coming back off of PUP.
40:41He was listed on the report and was questionable.
40:43Had questionable heading into last Sunday.
40:45We knew he was going to play, but he was still sort of working back.
40:48Full participant tells me they're looking to continue increasing his workload, which
40:53means like we were talking about earlier, maybe less snaps for Jalen Polk if they sort
40:57of bring it out that way.
40:59So yeah, I'm with you, though, on on Mandrake.
41:01I don't see him playing on Sunday either.
41:05All right, we'll get a few more in here, Taylor, before we get out of here.
41:11Here we go.
41:11Another trade question to the Patriots.
41:13Try and trade Josh Uche or Dietrich Wise to the Lions with Aiden Hutchinson being out
41:18for the rest of the season.
41:19I don't know what they could get for a return on some of these guys.
41:21I'm not a specialist in this, but.
41:25I don't hate the idea of dangling a couple of those guys for the lot to the Lions, who
41:29are seemingly all of a sudden in need for some pass rush.
41:33Yeah, I'm looking up Uche's numbers right now because I don't think he's been very
41:36productive as a pass rush for the past couple of weeks because he's been more disciplined
41:39and then, you know, you kind of had that right effect there.
41:43Dietrich Wise.
41:44Again, this is what the leadership thing like.
41:46I think they need as many defensive leaders as they can.
41:49I also don't think I feel like Dietrich Wise is one of those players who's much more valuable
41:53to the Patriots than he is anybody else.
41:55Like, Aiden Hutchinson is one of the most explosive humans in the NFL.
41:59Dietrich Wise is a bigger guy.
42:00It's just not his skill set.
42:01He's slower, but really his game is more about power and technique.
42:05So I don't really think that they'd be interested in him.
42:08Joshua Uche now pass rushing.
42:10Yeah, so he in two of the last three weeks, he's had a pressure rate under 10%.
42:16He had 5.6 against the Niners, 13.3 against the Dolphins, but that was only two pressures.
42:22And those pressures were real quick.
42:25Those pressures were the first one was really more effort.
42:29That was his sack where he ended up going all the way around and chased down Huntley.
42:32And the other one was actually against a running back.
42:36He went inside the tackle, took a blitzer, and he ended up on a running back.
42:40So I don't think any team is going to be looking at Joshua Uche
42:43in terms of his numbers or the tape that he's put up and think,
42:46wow, we got to bring this guy in.
42:47Here's the more telling thing.
42:50He's had one pressure in week four, two in week five, and then one last week.
42:54So for a designated pass rusher, that's not very good.
42:57Obviously, he's been a little bit better against the run,
42:59not as much of a liability when he's on the field.
43:02But yeah, I don't know who's going to really see those guys.
43:06Yeah, I'm with you.
43:07And I also think listening to Dan Campbell over the last couple of days,
43:10they seem fully committed to filling.
43:14Now, granted, it's impossible to replace a guy like Gaten Hutchinson, right?
43:18He's one of the best pass rushers, one of the best defensive linemen
43:20in the entire sport.
43:21But they seem pretty gung-ho on patching it up with what they have.
43:25And the Lions are deep.
43:26As much as Gaten Hutchinson is important to that defense,
43:29their offense is filthy.
43:30The rest of their defense is still really good.
43:32And I think they're going to be just fine.
43:34And they'll try and make it work without him.
43:35And they seem committed to doing so.
43:37I don't see.
43:38There was a report that they maybe kicked the tires on trading for Hasan Redik,
43:42who, I mean, you bring that guy and you don't know if he's going to even play for you.
43:45It's happening to the Jets right now.
43:46But I think they're going to be fine moving forward without Aiden Hutchinson for now.
43:51All right.
43:51I want to wrap it up on this one, Taylor.
43:53Continuing on with the Patriots defensive line.
43:56Do you expect to see more of Jaqueline Roy play more snaps?
44:00He was pretty good last week.
44:02He was good the week before, too.
44:04Somebody who is all of us.
44:05And you mentioned, too, using some more three defensive linemen sets for the Patriots.
44:10Do you think they could rotate Roy in there and kind of let him wreak havoc up front?
44:15Yeah.
44:15So unfortunately, the one play from the last game that sticks out to me
44:20is when he tried to tackle Damian Pierce with his shoulder.
44:25Yeah, that was tough.
44:26That was a pretty significant blemish.
44:27Like, really, Jaqueline Roy has played both the last two weeks.
44:30Hasn't been perfect, but he has had impact plays.
44:33Back-to-back sets.
44:34Both examples of great, great effort on his part.
44:36He's been pretty sturdy in the middle of the defense at that nose tackle spot.
44:40Has allowed Devon Gottschall to play more odd defense at end,
44:43where he's one-on-one against guards and tackles.
44:45And they cannot block that dude one-on-one.
44:47Again, huge credit to him.
44:49He has 18 run stops a season, most in the NFL for any player.
44:53But yeah, I think definitely.
44:54I thought it was surprising that Eric Johnson hasn't played the past two weeks,
44:57considering he played much better against the 49ers than he did the week before.
45:01Against, that was the Jets?
45:05Was that against the Jets?
45:06I think so.
45:07Yeah, that sounds right.
45:08This is the point in the season where we start to blend together a little bit.
45:10And I don't know what happened when, where, why.
45:13Yeah, you almost had this thing titled the Texans Week Mailbag earlier on,
45:16if I didn't catch it.
45:18Yeah, thank you for that.
45:18But yeah, no, I do think we'll see more of Jaqueline Roy.
45:20The coaching staff seems to like him.
45:22And he's putting some good stuff on tape.
45:24So it's been really cool to see him fill that role.
45:26And another tip of the cap to Elliott Wolfe, man.
45:29Some of these in-season acquisitions have been pretty good for them.
45:32I know they're depth pieces,
45:33so no one really wants to shine a light on them or give them credit.
45:36But I can't really think of too many personnel moves that they've made
45:38where I'm just like, oh, what is this?
45:41What are we doing here?
45:42I'll say it if I feel it.
45:43But I won't say anything, actually, rather.
45:45If I think they made a mistake, I'd tend to just be like, you know what?
45:48I didn't agree with it.
45:48And if I'm not talking about it, that's how you know I didn't like it.
45:51But I've really liked a lot of the moves that they have made.
45:53Yeah, I mean, Ben Brown is the big one before we get out of here.
45:56I mean, the fact that he's come in essentially allowed them to cut Nick LaVret
46:00and move forward with him for the time being
46:03as they figure out that center position.
46:05He was really solid last week,
46:06so kudos to them for finding that guy sort of a diamond in the rough there.
46:10So that's going to do it for us here, Taylor.
46:13On this mailbag Wednesday on Patriots Day,
46:15we'll be back tomorrow for some more podcasting.
46:19We're going to preview Patriots versus Jaguars with some film.
46:23So make sure you keep it here for that
46:26as the Patriots head over to London tomorrow afternoon.
46:28Yeah, Taylor, what do you got?
46:29I just wanted to say for the film rooms,
46:31so we're really trying to lean more towards those.
46:34It's probably not going to be as much, on my end at least,
46:36going to be maybe less written content.
46:38I'm going to put more of my time into these film breakdowns.
46:40So if you guys have anything you want to see,
46:42any recommendations, anything like that,
46:44please put them in the comments.

46:57We're working hard on those.
46:59So yeah, throw any and all critiques,
47:02comments in the comment section.
47:04Feel free to tweet at us as well,
