Alex Barth and Brian Hines bring their takes on whether the Patriots can pull off a home upset after losing a league-high six games in a row. Can the offense take advantage of a depleted Jets defense like other teams have? Can the defense contain Aaron Rodgers and his various weapons?

00:00All right, everyone, welcome back into another live edition of the Patriots Beat Podcast
00:28here on the CLNS Media Network presented by all of our wonderful friends over at PrizePix,
00:34GameTime, and PXG.
00:36It is Brian Hines from Pat's Pulpit, back as always with Alex Barth from 985thesportshub.com.
00:42To preview the Patriots welcoming the New York Jets this go-around, they obviously played
00:48just a few weeks ago, week three.
00:50They got their butts kicked on Thursday Night Football, 24-3, but kind of feels like two
00:55completely different teams than just, you know, four or five weeks ago.
00:59So we'll get into this one at Gillette Stadium.
01:03And it's been quite the eventful week for the Patriots off the field, really, starting,
01:10you know, in London after the game on Sunday, where Gerard Mayo threw the soft allegations
01:15out there.
01:16I don't want to say he walked it back, but, you know, he started saying that they were
01:21just playing soft, they weren't soft, and then we have everything in the wide receiver
01:24room going on with, you know, KJ Osborne, Keishon Booty, talking about their roles
01:29in the offense and with the team.
01:32And there's a lot of outside noise around the team right now, which, you know, led to
01:37Juwan Bentley-led team meeting today down there in Foxborough, where they kind of went
01:42over all that as a team.
01:43So now it's back to the football field, where they play the Jets.
01:47So kind of vague, but whether it's coaching staff or just the players as a whole, what
01:54do you kind of want to see from this team, you know, sitting at 1-6, six straight losses,
02:01all this stuff going on, like how do you want to see them bounce back kind of here against
02:06the Jets this week?
02:07Yeah, you know, that's a great question.
02:09I actually just asked Phil Perry this, if people want to check out after this, the Sports
02:12Patriots podcast literally opened the same way as like, hey, open-ended question, but,
02:16you know, what do you want to see?
02:17Because there really are so many different ways to look at this game after this week.
02:21It's been such a weird week, right, that there's so much going on, but it's just like.
02:26On one hand, I hate doing the thing where I, like, it's very easy to get caught up in
02:30the moment and say, whatever game it is that week is a big game, right?
02:36And big, I know they're 1-6, what do you mean big game?
02:39Like you can have numerous meanings to that.
02:42But it really feels like to me, like we, we, we knew this team wasn't going to be,
02:49we knew this team wasn't going to contend for a Superbowl.
02:51We knew this team probably wasn't going to make the playoffs.
02:54All off season when we were asked, what is a successful season for the Patriots?
02:58We talked about essentially some sort of growth or progress or something like really, and
03:03it's not always going to be linear, but are you better week 18 than you were week one?
03:10That's basically what it came down to.
03:12And again, I don't want to, I don't want to say, Oh, this is like a big game.
03:19Cause it's easy to get caught up as prisoner of the moment.
03:21And look, this week was weird, but we've had a lot of weird weeks with this team this year,
03:25but it does feel like if they don't show something this week, like this is a turning point.
03:30I guess I'll throw the Titans game next week in there as well.
03:33Cause that's a weaker team.
03:34That's a team that they can beat, but like, do they respond?
03:38How do they respond?
03:41Have said all the right things all week when asked about the soft comments.
03:45Yeah.
03:46He's challenging us.
03:47That was a challenge to us.
03:48And we need to respond in kind and we need to react, which like good.
03:53That's kind of been a theme though, where like, they talk about getting the message
03:56players and coaches alike talk about getting the message.
03:59And then you don't actually see that manifest itself.
04:03So what does it look like to me to have a successful game here?
04:06And I don't even know that it's winning, but do you show some fight, right?
04:10Are they winning at the line of scrimmage, which they haven't done in weeks?
04:15No social media posts after the game.
04:17If things don't go your way, like things like that, like, I don't even know that you need
04:19them to win, to come out of this game, feeling better.
04:22Can you just show some sort of progress in some sort of reaction to, you know, kind of
04:28falling to, to the basement basement of the NFL and, you know, people are calling for
04:32your head coach's job and, um, you know, there's, there, people are saying that blow up the
04:37roster, this, and that, and like, is there a response?
04:41Do they come out and take their frustration out on the jets?
04:43And they can do that and still not win, but do they come out, put it on the field?
04:49Brett, we haven't done like, and this is coming from me.
04:54There's been like no X's and O's talk this week.
04:57Like, again, I just did the show with Phil and we barely did it because
05:00they're at disinflection point.
05:03Like for all the talk about what's being said in the locker room and what's being said in
05:06the media and what's being posted on social media.
05:09Can you go out there 11 on 11 lined up, put your hand in the dirt and make a play.
05:15Like you kind of, I kind of need to see that from them at this point.
05:17And I know you guys, what you got to see the football players play football.
05:21Yeah.
05:21Kinda.
05:22Cause that doesn't seem to be the focus.
05:24I think there was one Kendrick Bourne had a quote today and Kendrick Bourne was awesome.
05:29Um, he, I want to find the quote, but he, he did an awesome job today.
05:34In a, at a time where for this team, it's a lot of people saying a lot of things that
05:38shouldn't be said or saying things that could be misconstrued or taken out of context.
05:42Kendrick Bourne said what needed to be said without riling anybody up or pointing
05:49fingers or anything like that.
05:50He just set the tone and he was asked about, you know, the focus and, and the
05:56message to the young players who he kind of singled out as guys that maybe weren't
06:00as attentive as they should be said, focus in on what's important.
06:03Football is the most important.
06:04Losing is creating all this drama.
06:06If we want to fix anything, we need to win.
06:08Yeah.
06:08Pretty much, pretty much if they're winning games, you can go post on social
06:12media, all you want to ride.
06:13Mayo can say what he wants the podium.
06:14It's not going to matter if they're winning games, show up and do the football
06:17part of your job.
06:18That's what I'm looking for.
06:20Yeah.
06:20And that was the message from a lot of guys, like even to Alex van Pelt kind of
06:24mentioned that we're like, look, we have a lot of issues right now, but if you win
06:28games, it gets a lot easier.
06:30Um, but it like big picture then to your point, like they don't even need to win
06:35this game, you know, the jets are two and five, but they're probably better, but
06:40you, you want to see some fight, right?
06:41Cause there hasn't been that fight in the last few weeks, which has led to those
06:45soft comments and especially in this one, like running the ball and stopping the
06:49run are going to be two huge components of this game because the jets defense you
06:54can run on and you haven't been able to run the football lately.
06:57You want to get back to that.
06:59And then on the other side of things, they have, you know, Braylon Allen and
07:02Brees Hall, two really good running backs.
07:04I think they were like 130 rushing yards against you is one 30 or one 50, but a lot
07:09of rushing yards against you with that week three matchup.
07:11So can you show something here and can you push back and can you respond again?
07:16They've all said, they're going to take these soft comments as a challenge.
07:19So can you kind of answer the bell and as you said, make a play or, you know, show
07:24your toughness and you know, they'll, they'll have a chance to kind of do that
07:26in the run game this week.
07:28Yeah.
07:28To me, it's kind of like, can you give me the Seahawks game again?
07:31Yeah.
07:31Right.
07:32If they can get back to that, like that to me was, you know, playing that way, not
07:37going to win a ton of games.
07:38You're going to win some, you're going to be in all of them.
07:40Like they're most, I guess, like if they can get back to that, that's it.
07:46And then they got to be better.
07:47Cause again, it's about progress, but I know the bars on the floor here, but it
07:53kind of is after the last three games kind of is.
07:57I mean, you've lost six straight games in the last three.
08:00Have not that, that Seahawks game.
08:02I think we walked away from that saying like, that's kind of, and you could say
08:07the first two week window, like that's kind of what we expected from that team.
08:10Right?
08:10Like they, they might not win all these games, but they're going to be competitive.
08:14And now you're getting to the point where, you know, they're just getting blown out
08:18and they're playing soft as you know, Gerard Mayo said, and some of that definitely
08:22has to do with the personnel.
08:24Again, they have key losses, but we expected this coaching staff to be able
08:28to make them a little bit more competitive and at least keep these games close.
08:32So I think that is a good point with that Seahawks game.
08:36Like, could you get something along those lines where you're in the game?
08:39Maybe it doesn't go your way at the end, but you're seeing a little bit more
08:41fight, seeing a little bit more competitiveness out there.
08:45Cause that is what we expected.
08:46We did expect a somewhat competitive team, even though we
08:49didn't expect a lot of wins.
08:50I mean, there were like four and a half win total on Vegas entering the year.
08:54So we knew they were going to be bad, but we wanted to see some
08:57fight and some competitiveness.
08:58So getting back to that, uh, would be a good start.
09:01But, um, if you want to touch on some X's and O's, is there anything you'd
09:07like to see from either Van Pelt or Covington we'd heard from both of those
09:11guys today that could help them get back to that competitive nature and maybe
09:18kind of tweak some things here with the, with the scheme and with
09:20the X's and O's going forward.
09:23I, the big one for me is that the quarterback design runs, like you got
09:26to spark something in the run game.
09:27And he talked about today, there's different sorts of runs we can try.
09:31I get, maybe they don't want to expose Drake made it too much contact, but like
09:34you, you gotta be able to run the football.
09:36You have to be able to run the football.
09:37He's been able to do it on scrambles.
09:39Like the design run should help.
09:41Um, and then on top of that, just not necessarily X's and O's in the design,
09:47but like Alexander Pelt, get a feel for the game and understand what's working.
09:52If the jets are stopping the run, throw the ball like we did last week.
09:56I think part of the reason, if you look at it, the Patriots were actually ninth
10:00in the league in yards per carry through the first five weeks, they were four.
10:05I have it here.
10:06Hang on.
10:07Um, they were 4.9 yards per carry through the first five weeks.
10:12Pretty good.
10:13Uh, they're with Drake may scrambles 2.3.
10:16They're at 1.9 yards per carry without a scrambles in the last two weeks,
10:20which is obviously like not good.
10:21It's bad.
10:22Uh, I do wonder, not even wonder, like I look at it and I think some of that is
10:28opposing team, see a rookie quarterback.
10:30And what are you going to do with even a top draft pick?
10:33You see a rookie quarterback as a defensive coordinator, you're going to
10:36make him beat your throw in the football, right?
10:38You're going to make the kid prove he belongs in this league.
10:41Drake may has been doing that.
10:42Not to the point where they've gotten a win, but if he keeps throwing the
10:45ball this way at a certain point, teams are going to have to allocate
10:49more resources towards defending the past.
10:52Now, maybe it's never going to be like a eight man drop thing just
10:56cause they're for now, cause their receivers don't command that kind of
10:58respect, but maybe use the past to set up the run, like put this, put this
11:04thing on Drake may shoulders.
11:05Right.
11:06Um, and I, that could look, that could happen in a number of different ways.
11:13Like there's no one play you call to do that, but I don't think it's
11:17coincidence they haven't been able to run the ball since Drake
11:19may became the quarterback.
11:21I think he's done enough where teams should have to respect the past.
11:24In fact, Patriots are still losing.
11:26And some of this is because of the defense.
11:27Now we're getting a complimentary football.
11:28They're just not doing it.
11:30But if you can put Drake man in a position where he's able to show out
11:35and now it's like, we need two high safeties.
11:37We can only put five in the box.
11:38We need these guys out on the perimeter.
11:40That's going to lighten things up on the run game as well.
11:42And by the way, that's one of his core philosophies has set up to run like
11:45West coming from a West coast system.
11:47Right.
11:48So, um, it's a little different West coast, not run with Bill Walsh rant,
11:52but yeah, I think that that could help out as well.
11:55Yeah.
11:56I mean, Drake's been one of the, like statistically one of the best
11:58downfield passers and the last two weeks since he's taken over.
12:01So maybe you do start to see, uh, some more lighter boxes and
12:06then that can help the run game.
12:07And yeah, I've been saying it to like get Drake involved.
12:10He's off the injury report today.
12:11So that knee is whatever it was is good.
12:14So, uh, maybe now is finally the time where they say like, okay, let's get
12:19some of these read options, go in the design quarterback run game.
12:22We saw him in pistol a handful of times for the first time last week.
12:26So maybe they work off that and get some of that run game going.
12:29Cause they need to run the football, uh, and help him that way.
12:33And he can do that with his legs.
12:34So that, that would be a welcome, uh, welcome site there, but, um, his
12:40receivers, uh, a lot of, um, we can get back to Drake in a second.
12:45What do you want to see from him in this game?
12:47But the receiver has been such a big topic of conversation this week.
12:51Just what are you expecting?
12:53You know, Jalen Polk hasn't practiced with the concussion.
12:55He's likely going to be out most times with those head injuries.
12:59You miss, uh, you miss a week anyway.
13:02How do you think that rotation is going to look this week?
13:05Uh, is Jayvon Baker going to sub back in?
13:08Um, and you know, KJ Osborne and Kendrick Bourne, like, how are you
13:13expecting the wide receiver room to look this week against the jets
13:16who play a lot of man coverage?
13:19They played a lot of man coverage in week three when you played them.
13:21And then they've only dialed it up a little bit more since they
13:24made, uh, the head coaching change.
13:26So you're going to get a lot of man coverage.
13:28So how are you looking at this Patriots wide receiver room this week?
13:32Um, so I, yeah, I, this is where I wonder.
13:35So you're going to have born Douglas booty.
13:38That's your top three, but they've been using a four man.
13:42Rotation pretty much all year.
13:44Uh, and Polk's been that fourth guy and he's obviously, or he's
13:47been the third guy boot.
13:49He's been the fourth guy.
13:49He'll not move up.
13:51Um, and that leaves you three options, Osborne Baker and Thornton.
13:56I don't think it's going to be Thornton.
13:57I just, they seem beyond done with him and objectively the right call.
14:01I don't know why they spend so much time with him this summer.
14:04We all kind of knew at the time that that didn't seem right, but none
14:08of you knew about that.
14:09Now that time has been spent.
14:11I I'd give Jayvon Baker some run this week.
14:14I would like to, he didn't look great at the beginning of the
14:17season and he did look a little out of place, but you used a
14:21fourth round pick on the guy.
14:22You can't quit on him after two games and maybe he shows you something.
14:27Uh, I think you're going to go with KJ Osborne just cause he's more
14:31reliable and that's, what's better for Drake.
14:33You heard Alex Van Pelt today called KJ Osborne.
14:37One of the leaders in the wide receiver room, which doesn't sound great when the
14:41guy's essentially demanding a trade, but that tells you that they believe in them.
14:46So I think Osborne is going to get that rollback as the fourth guy, but they got
14:50to get Baker another chance at some point.
14:51Like look at Keisha on booty.
14:53I think he's a great example where he, and he was a six round pick.
14:56He was not a guy that they realistically needed to go back to.
14:59They didn't go back to him last year.
15:01It took until this year and a new coaching staff and all of that.
15:03But I, I think you have to give him another shot again.
15:09It didn't look good in camp.
15:10He struggled more as camp went on, but he's had a few weeks now to kind of sit
15:15behind the scenes and digest it.
15:16And you need a spark, you need a spark, and he definitely is the kind of
15:20player that can give you one, whether or not he does you're one in six.
15:23What do you have to lose by finding out?
15:25Yeah.
15:26Yeah.
15:27Kendrick born mentioned he's still playing, you know, he's mostly on scout team.
15:30So I don't know how much he would be involved, but yeah, I'd like to see him.
15:35So do you think he was supposed to be active last week?
15:38I do.
15:38I, cause I think so too.
15:40So me and Taylor were trying to put this together.
15:43They had, uh, Polk born pop Polk born pop booty.
15:53And then, right.
15:56Is that the four?
15:57That's the top four.
15:58Pop born booty.
16:00And then they had a fifth, which was KJ Osborne, who found out he was going to be
16:05active the night before the game.
16:09And it wasn't because of Douglas.
16:10So I'm, I'm guessing that was supposed to be Baker's spot, but he was sick.
16:15And then they had to go to Osborne.
16:17That's how I kind of put it together.
16:18Is that what your wavelength was thinking there?
16:20Yeah.
16:21Yeah, basically.
16:22Yeah.
16:22So I think like just number wise, it looked like maybe Javon was going to get a shot
16:28and then he pops up with the illness and then they have to switch to go to Osborne
16:33and pivot at the last moment there.
16:34So yeah, maybe he is getting a shot here.
16:38And I, I think it's, it's worthwhile again, as you said, it's one in six.
16:43So who knows, but as long as you know, the last few weeks, cause we asked
16:46van Pelt a few weeks ago and he said like, it was still kind of
16:49the mental side of the game.
16:50So as long as he's got that right, and he's not actively hurting like Drake
16:53may and hurting the offense out there.
16:55Uh, I think it's worth a shot because he, he can't help in the skill
16:59set or like he's a vertical receiver.
17:00That's where Drake may has been very good again.
17:02So, uh, I think getting him out there and then you could play some of the other
17:07guys and more of their natural spots, like Keisha, I'm booty and Kendrick
17:09born, they're always going to have to play like the X on the backside all the time.
17:14So I, I think that would be, uh, it's worth a shot, as you said, it's just
17:18kind of worth a shot to get him out there and see how it looks.
17:21Cause again, he was a fourth round pick.
17:23Um, so it'd be nice to get him and I do think he was going to be active.
17:27So, uh, maybe that's how it plays out this week, but, uh, we'll wait and see
17:31there, but, uh, Polk isn't going to play.
17:33It looks like, do you think that's kind of almost a good thing that he's just,
17:37you know, you obviously don't want them dealing with a concussion, but like,
17:41is it might just be a good thing to be kind of like, Hey, I mean, you were
17:45saying like, send him to the ninth floor.
17:46If he was on the Bruins here, like this is kind of doing that.
17:50Unfortunately, it just comes with an injury, but do you think it might be
17:53good for him to kind of step back, take a game too often and just kind of
17:58mentally reset and then see how it looks after that?
18:02Yeah.
18:03Like we talked about this, I think on, on Monday, right.
18:05The, the proverbial ninth floor.
18:07Yeah.
18:09I think that is probably like, it's mental right now.
18:11It's I, I really believe it's mental with him.
18:13So giving him a chance to just kind of sit back, reset, reevaluate.
18:19I don't know for sure.
18:19That's going to work with these mental things.
18:21You never know, but it's not a bad button to press.
18:23And I, I mean, button to press, I didn't have an option.
18:25He's hurt.
18:25Right.
18:26But even if he wasn't hurt, I would say, you know, maybe not, not having him
18:30inactive, but certainly reducing his role would probably be the right move this
18:34week.
18:35Yep.
18:36All right.
18:37I want to go to Drake in the offensive line, but before we do that prize

19:47All right.
19:48Uh, what Drake got a little breaking news here.
19:52Oh, really?
19:52What do we got?
19:53Like an hour ago?
19:53I missed this.
19:54Uh, you see, they announced the keeper of the light for this week.
19:57Oh yes.
19:58Adam Venteri, the goat, the best kicker of all time.
20:02Has he been in any capacity since he's left that since he, like he signed away,
20:10I think he played some games at Gillette as the member, as a member of the Colts.
20:13If I remember correctly, he did that once or twice.
20:16I don't think so.
20:17Besides that, was he on, when did he retire?
20:22Was he on like the 2014 AFC championship game?
20:25The deflated was, yeah, he, he retired five years ago.
20:28Cause he's first year eligible for the hall.
20:30True.
20:31Yeah.
20:31So he's been back, but never like in this form that's, is there a connection there?
20:37What's October 27th against the jets minutes, the jets.
20:46Uh, I don't know.
20:47Just maybe it was the only week he could make it work.
20:50They wanted to get him back.
20:51He is a guy that they need to get into the Patriots hall of fame.
20:55So maybe so they obviously already had their inductee, although it was
21:00although, I don't know, like they had their inductee for this year,
21:02which was obviously Brady, but was that its own thing?
21:04It was going to be another.
21:06No, I'd be too late for that.
21:08Cause this is usually around when they would do it.
21:10Yeah.
21:11Cause this was right around when they put scar in last year and
21:14Vrabel, uh, Seymour a couple of years ago with Seymour.
21:18They always try to put guys in to like kind of help boost their
21:21pro football hall of fame case.
21:23Right.
21:23They did that with, with Seymour.
21:25They're trying to do with will for again, try to do with will fork.
21:28Uh, I thought they would, I thought they would still do another
21:32one in addition to Brady.
21:34I thought so too.
21:34So maybe this is like a surprise.
21:36Hey, here's a red jacket, Adam.
21:38Maybe there you go.
21:40Hey, he deserves it.
21:41I know that people got some pushback on that cause he played for the
21:44Colts long and he played with the Patriots.
21:46He was here for 10 years.
21:48He hit the greatest kick in NFL history.
21:51As a member of this team, he hit some of the most significant
21:55kicks in the history of this team.
21:57He is, or he was when he left the all-time leading scorer in the
22:01history of this team, the league's all-time leading score he played
22:04here for a decade, he should have a red jacket.
22:06Yep.
22:07I wonder if there is a one point where they start putting in like two guys per
22:12year or cause right now what it's, I don't think so.
22:15You don't, you think they'll stay true to it?
22:18Cause they're going to keep there.
22:19They need guys for once a year.
22:21And if you start putting into a year, I mean, there's going to be a little
22:24dead spot there where you may not have options.
22:27You know, if you know what I'm saying, so fair, I was just thinking
22:31like that well-primed there's so many dynasty guys that like, but yeah,
22:35maybe they really just want to stretch it as far as possible.
22:38So, but yeah, Venetarian deserves to deserves to get in there.
22:42So, uh, I'm not reporting anything for the record.
22:45I'm just, yeah.
22:46And I don't think that's going to happen.
22:47I think they would have made a bigger deal about it.
22:49And we never heard anything about the Brady statue, right?
22:53They never released a date with that.
22:55There looks like we can see the spot that it's going outside.
22:58Yeah, I think they want him to be here for that.
23:02And there's obviously with him being with Fox, it complicates, it's
23:06going to be tough to find a date.
23:07Right.
23:07Yeah.
23:08It's busy on Sundays.
23:09Yep.
23:11Um, all right, back to, uh, jets, Drake may two encouraging starts.
23:18Looks like, uh, I mean, this is the team he made his NFL debuted
23:22against the jets late in that action, but it looks, uh, they
23:25blitzed a lot in that game.
23:27Probably we'll have a similar game plan.
23:29They have a son Reddick, uh, probably won't be a full go, but
23:33Hassan Reddick back, uh, on that defensive line.
23:36So a lot of man coverage, a lot of blitzing.
23:39What do you want to see from Drake to kind of keep stacking these
23:43encouraging performances together as we move on here?
23:46Um, again, first of all, I love this.
23:48The, the Brady statue is getting moved left a little bit to make
23:51room for the brown statue, but the Koi Kronk statue right next
23:54to brown is awesome, dude.
23:56Like he, if you watch him like during the game, like he's throwing
24:00first down signals and like getting in guys' faces and sticking up for
24:04his quarterback, like he is fun to walk out there, but, um, I, uh, as
24:10for Drake may, I mean, again, keep the turnovers down, limit the sprays.
24:15Um, and again, with hit, like, I want to see them run him more.
24:18That's not like a him thing, but I think that's a big deal, but I mean,
24:22he feels like he's on track, right?
24:23I don't think there's a ton you look at coming into this game and
24:27say, it needs to be different.
24:28It's just keep building on the momentum from last week.
24:31Don't go backwards.
24:32Yeah, definitely.
24:33The sprays have been the most consistent thing.
24:36Uh, we'll see if he can kind of dial those back, but yeah, it's been good.
24:40It will be nice to see him, you know, the jets blitz that much.
24:43He's made some nice plays against the blitz van Peltz has been very
24:46complimentary how he looks against the blitz and in practice, you know,
24:49that was one of the last boxes he had to check to become the starter.
24:52So, um, he's, he's been handling it well, but if you get that much
24:56pressure in a game, you'd like to see how he bounces back and looks like that.
25:00And, um, yeah, hopefully pop, pop Douglas is ready to go because
25:04they're going to play a lot of man.
25:05And that's his go-to guy against man.
25:07That's Patriot's best separator.
25:09So they're going to need a big game from pop.
25:10So, um, hopefully that connection looks good.
25:13You know, we hit the first two crossers to him, which were once he kind of
25:17sprayed his first start last week in London.
25:19So, uh, it looked like their, their chemistry was fine than each other.
25:23So hopefully that picks up where it left off and pops pops.
25:26Good to go.
25:26He hasn't been on the injury report.
25:28He's been healthy now.
25:28So, uh, they'll need big games from those two guys, but, uh, if they
25:33get blitzed, how are you feeling?
25:35Offensive line.
25:36Can they protect them?
25:37I mean, I'm guessing we're still looking at.
25:39Or if Darian Lowe has been limited, so I don't know if he'll be ready to go,
25:43but if not, it's probably back to demonstrate Jacobs, Michael Jordan, Ben
25:47Brown, uh, Leighton Robinson hasn't practiced that ankle injury.
25:51So you're looking at city.
25:52So at right guard who has struggled, I know you have a couple of days to
25:57finalize your trade deadline take on city.
25:59So, so we won't ask yet, but, uh, he might be at right guard and then
26:02Michael went new back at right.
26:03Tackle.
26:04So.
26:06I mean, we know we're not feeling great about the office, right?
26:09At this point, it kind of is who it is.
26:10Like they, they seemingly have settled on a personnel group.
26:13We talked about it at the beginning of the year, right?
26:16You move this guy to this position, sign this guy, cut this guy.
26:18I, it, it kind of is what it is at this point.
26:21I'm expecting more of the same pressure rates.
26:22Probably going to be around 40%.
26:24Drake may has got to be ready to throw hot.
26:26Like he's not going to get help from that group.
26:28I don't think that they're so actively in the way as they were at the start of the
26:32year, but they're not helping anybody either.
26:35Yeah, they, they've almost kind of like, sorry.
26:38They've almost kind of gotten a break in, in the past pro criticism.
26:42Cause they've been so bad.
26:43That's the run that it's like, just, just open a rushing lane and
26:47then we can get to the past pro.
26:49That's what I was going to say.
26:50Like the big thing for them, like, let's get some yards on the ground
26:54and this jets again is vulnerable to it.
26:56But I mean, what was it, was it last week where the last two weeks, it's
27:01like negative two yards before contact.
27:03They've averaged like it.
27:05It's bad.
27:05I know it was 0.33 last week.
27:08Yeah.
27:09And I think it was almost worse the week before.
27:11So like the backs, like, like you'd, you'd like to see a little bit more
27:15from Ramond, I looked a little rusty last week in his first game back, but
27:18like, they're not getting much to work with, so let's open a rushing lane
27:22and now, and then as much as we'd like to see Drake may run the ball.
27:26Like, let's not have Drake.
27:27Maybe our leading rusher on three or four scrambles either.
27:30Like let's, let's get something going on the ground game and that comes
27:33back to the offensive line, open it up some, some lanes, but yeah.
27:38I think Quinn and Williams could wreck this game with Michael
27:41Jordan and city.
27:41So I guard, so we'll, we'll see.
27:43Hopefully there's not too much interior pressure there, but yeah,
27:46it, it kind of is what it is there.
27:48So that's what the offensive line is looking like.
27:50Anything else on the offense as a whole van Pelt player-wise that
27:56that's catching your eye.
27:57That's pretty much it.
27:58All right.
27:59So let's go over to the defense, but before we do that, uh, game time,
28:05we all love going to either football games live or it's NBA season.
28:11The Celtics had an awesome banner night.
28:13Uh, they play tonight.
28:14They're in Washington, right?
28:15Yeah.
28:15Cause the Bruins are home tonight and Bruins hockey season and full
28:19force, uh, BC welcomes Louisville to Chestnut hill tomorrow.
28:24So bunch of sports events to go to, and you guys can get all your

28:53app, or you can of course use game time picks and move down to the lower
28:59level for one Oh five right under the lighthouse.
29:02Nice seat there.
29:04And then let's see, what are the Bruins looking like tonight?
29:08Who they got Dallas.
29:09I think if anyone's listening and wants to hop over, anyone listening
29:12in Boston want to hop over game time, picks 108 bucks, couple rows up
29:17from the glass, not a bad seat behind the home goal there, so all

29:53What time is it game time?
29:55All right.
29:56Um, let's do X's and O's.
29:59Cause again, we haven't talked about that.
30:01Right.
30:02Uh, the jets mentioned the run game, two headed monster,
30:05Brees Hall, Braylon Allen.
30:08I know run defense.
30:10It's a lot of just kind of effort, but would you like to see any change?
30:15And now, you know, it's Rogers and it's Devante Adams.
30:18It's Garrett Wilson.
30:19How are you scheming this up to stop this?
30:22What are you focusing on if you're DeMarcus Covington?
30:24Are you making any schematic changes X's and O changes from recent weeks to try
30:29and, and, you know, get some sort of life into this defense, like what are you
30:33doing if you're looking at this Jets offense to try to slow it down?
30:37Yeah, that's a good question.
30:39And I'm glad I don't have to answer it if we're being honest.
30:41Um, because what do you do?
30:44Like you can't stop the run right now.
30:47And the only way you're going to make a change against the run, like, you know,
30:51schematically you, this and that would like outside of effort is just sending
30:55bodies and that can be playing more guys on the line of scrimmage that can be
30:58blitzing, like specifically run blitzing either way, you're just sending more
31:02bodies at the problem.
31:04If you do that, you're leaving things open in the past game.
31:06So do you sell out, stop the pass and, and, you know, just kind of know you're
31:14going to get run on, cause you can't stop the run with four guys right now.
31:16They're not big enough.
31:17You know, outside of Devon, gotcha.
31:19The big guys on the front are all not there.
31:23Um, or do you let them run it knowing they're going to be able to hit it on the
31:28ground anyway, and still have to stop the pass.
31:31I almost feel better.
31:32If Aaron Rogers is throwing the ball.
31:33And I know that sounds insane to say, I was going to say the same thing, but he's
31:39been hit and miss Alan Lazard.
31:42Hasn't practiced.
31:43He missed practice again today.
31:44Right?
31:45I didn't miss that.
31:46Yes, I believe so.
31:47So Alan was, I have it right here.
31:49I should be able to check that out.
31:50Lazard.
31:51Uh, yes.
31:52Didn't it?
31:52So he hasn't practiced this week.
31:55Him and Adams are still sort of getting back on the same page.
31:58Like I hall of fame quarterback, one of the best of his era.
32:04I'm so petrified of what Braylon Allen and Brees all can do to them.
32:07That I almost feel like you put the ball in the quarterback's hands.
32:10He did a defense in his 10 tackles last week.
32:13And you've got two bowling ball backs back there for the jets.
32:17You can't let those guys get in the open field.
32:19You can't do it.
32:20It's not going to end well, at least you have a chance that
32:22maybe Rogers throws you one.
32:24Cause he's kind of done that this year at times.
32:27Like he hasn't been the same guy.
32:29Um, I just don't, you know, if they can't stop the run, none of it's
32:33going to matter because the jets will happily tiki tack run the ball up
32:37and down the field, the whole game.
32:40Yep.
32:41And you saw like, if a team's running, I don't know if it'll be 17, 18 runs in a
32:46row, but you can see the effect of that.
32:48Like the offense, then the Patriots offense doesn't have the ball and it's
32:52just kind of a trickle down effect.
32:54So that was something in the first matchup they played, the Patriots
32:58played a lot of like two deep safeties.
33:00And I think they averaged over six yards of carry on that against those looks.
33:04And that's so I'm kind of with you as crazy as it sounds like maybe devote
33:09an extra guy, put six, seven guys in the box there and sell out to stop
33:15Brees Hall, Braylon Allen, and just take your shot, right?
33:19Like if you have, you put Christian Gonzalez on Garrett Wilson, that's
33:22someone he's had success with against the PA in the past, maybe rotate
33:27coverage then to Devante Adams.
33:29Well, you know, Rogers and him are still trying to get back on the same
33:31page and take your shot there.
33:35And I know again, it's a, it sounds crazy, but like, I just think that's
33:38your best bet because if you don't like, they're just going to run it 17
33:42times and you're not going to touch the football and they're probably going to
33:46score.
33:47So I'm kind of with you on that.
33:49So you need a good game from Christian Gonzalez.
33:52Um, you know, Jonathan Jones, if he draws the Devante Adams matchup with
33:56safety help, like you'll need your secondary to be, uh, on top of their
34:00game there, but I'm, I'm kind of with you.
34:02So, um, any players you're, you're kind of looking at, if you do that too,
34:08you need some more from the past rush.
34:10So it'd be nice if Keon white can get going.
34:11I know he's been kind of bothered, uh, with an ankle ankle.
34:15Is it ankle or knee?
34:15I think it's ankle.
34:17Oh, some like knee.
34:21Yeah.
34:21And so like, and that's part of my thing too.
34:24I like, I'm fine putting the ball in Roger's hand.
34:26You're probably going to need a blitz anyway, the plan to stop the run.
34:29Cause they can't get any sort of pressure up front.
34:31None.
34:32And they just have to be better line of scrimmage in this game, period full stop.
34:36Uh, but, and he's Keon white, Joshua Uche, Daniel equality.
34:42I know he's banged up, like somebody, somebody get a hand on the quarterback
34:46and that's already an improvement over last week if they do that.
34:49Yep.
34:50Zero quarterback hits last week.
34:52Yeah.
34:52Uh, good stuff.
34:53Do you think any, I mean, I don't know what else they could do at this point,
34:58but like personnel changes in the front seven, they're just out of bodies.
35:03Cocky talk.
35:04He is the only, like, if he's healthy in last week, he was
35:08inactive because he wasn't healthy.
35:10Like if he's ready, that's the only, like, that's the last button.
35:13I feel like they could press, like they signed Keyshawn banks to the
35:17practice squad, who's a linebacker.
35:18I don't know if he's doubting he's going to be ready to go.
35:21Like, I don't know what other buttons they can press here, but I don't know.
35:26Is there anything you can think of that they could do there in that front seven?
35:30Especially that linebacker level.
35:31Like that's where they've just been so bad, but like, they've tried everything.
35:34They went to Chris Ellis, they, they took some off of Rayquan
35:38McMillan's plate and it just still didn't work.
35:40So I decided to see on a talkie talkie.
35:42Like, I don't know.
35:43I don't like Curtis Jacobs.
35:45You're going to play him more.
35:46You're going to call somebody up off the practice squad.
35:48Like they just, they don't really have the bodies for it.
35:52I was wondering if like Joe Giles Harris gets a shot because at least, yeah.
35:57Like he was good in coverage in the preseason.
35:59And then maybe if he, you know, get to buy back on the ball, like on the line
36:04of scrimmage, but I don't know if they're not doing that, there must be a reason
36:08in practice they're, they're not trying that because they should be trying
36:11everything at that linebacker position.
36:13So, um, we'll see if they make any adjustments, but yeah, hope you got
36:18to get Keon white going, um, up front on the pass rush, um, and get
36:25those guys get, get after Rogers.
36:26I know he gets the ball out quickly, but, and contain Aaron Rogers too.
36:30Like they've been better at, at the last few weeks, but that
36:33obviously just killed them.
36:34I wonder if that's why they have no pass rush.
36:37You think they've just been much Russian kind of focused on the contain.
36:41I don't want to say much rush, but just more focused on the contain.
36:44So, yeah, maybe we'll see if they let those guys rip a little bit more there,
36:48but, um, yeah, well, the other thing like schematic wise defense, just, you know,
36:56the base personnel, Evan S DeMarcus Covington today, cause they had been
36:59playing a ton of base and they're getting killed in it.
37:03So, you know, Covington just said, you know, you match it with what teams
37:06do in the jets was kind of the first teams to play those heavy groupings
37:10and force the Patriots into the base looks this week and, or earlier this
37:14season, and they just been getting gashed there, so either figure something
37:19out, try something new, or it's just going to be kind of repeat,
37:22repeat errors go in there.
37:24So, um, I don't know if you've been any thoughts on that or just the rest
37:29of the, I just don't know how you, I just don't know how you get out of
37:32base when you can't stop the run.
37:34Like if you can't stop the running base, you're not gonna stop the running nickel.
37:38So they're kind of handcuffed.
37:39That's where they miss.
37:40They miss like a peppers there.
37:42Cause they can play the three safety net nickel and have one
37:44of those guys in the box.
37:46So fun stuff, fun stuff, fun stuff on the defense side of the ball.
37:52But, uh, let's wrap up a special teams besides Adam Benatari coming.
37:59Um, I mean, it was a rough one.
38:02They were, gave up the punt return touchdown, gave up the two point
38:06conversion was kind of because of the special teams errors with
38:09the, with the penalty on, on Tavai there.
38:12So, uh, how do you want to see that unit just bounce back this week?
38:17Uh, first of all, no penalties, like no penalties.
38:20They've had two bad penalties in a row, like two weeks in a row,
38:24two bad penalties, no more penalties in that unit.
38:26And then Bryce Berringer, not, not out kicking his coverage.
38:31Like it's kind of become a thing now.
38:33And this was the first time he got really burned on it, but he had a
38:35couple others earlier in the year.
38:36It was like, might've kicked out a little harder than he should have.
38:39Maybe you should have gone with the three woods instead of the driver.
38:41Right.
38:41So just seeing him reel that in a little bit.
38:46And I would assume that's going to be on his mind this week
38:48after allowing that return.
38:49Um, so we'll see how that goes.
38:52Yeah.
38:52Gibson's, uh, Gibson, Xavier Gibson for the Jets.
38:56He's a dangerous returner.
38:57So, uh, that'll be something, something to monitor there, but, uh,
39:02that is our preview there.
39:04So let's do our prize picks lineup of the week here.
39:09Let's see, let's get our banner up there.
39:13Um, and we'll go to prize picks here.
39:16All right.
39:16How many rushing yards for Braylon Allen?
39:19Braylon Allen.
39:19Let's just get right to the point here.
39:21How many rushing yards for Braylon Allen?
39:25Um, it's all Josh Allen, right?
39:30Let me just go to Jets actually.
39:32Let's make that a little easier.
39:34Rogers, Rogers, Rogers, Lazard, Braylon, Allen touchdown.
39:41They have Brees Hall, 75 and a half rush yards, probably more.
39:47Uh, they don't have Braylon Allen rush yards.
39:50Sadly.
39:51All right.
39:51Well, we'll go Brees Hall more, more than 75 and a half rush yards.
39:56Yeah.
39:57I just don't think they're going to fix it against the run this week.
39:59Yeah.
40:01And then we'll go to Pat's Drake may 23 and a half rush yards.
40:08Yeah.
40:08He's been, what are you at 18 and 23 last two weeks.
40:11Yeah.
40:12So if they get one design run in there for him, that should be enough with the 23.
40:18So we'll go more 23 and a half.
40:20Uh, his pass yards are two 14 and a half.
40:23Do you like that feel strong?
40:25Yeah.
40:25He's been over that number.
40:26Yeah.
40:27Yeah.
40:28So we'll add more there.
40:29Let's look at some of the Patriots skill guys.
40:32Hunter Henry, 32 and a half receiving yards.
40:35They've had good chemistry.
40:37Um, Ramond Ray Stevenson, 45 and a half rushing yards.
40:42If you think they can get the running game going.
40:44Yeah.
40:45I don't, I don't.
40:47Not against this front, not against Conan Williams.
40:49Sadly, they don't have any pop Douglas up yet, but, uh, Joey
40:55sly, one and a half field goals made our guy.
41:00What did we feel?
41:01Go week field goal week.
41:03You want to put that in there?
41:04Sure.
41:05And then do you like Henry 32 and a half receiving yards?
41:09Um, that's probably like right about on the number.
41:15Do you like, if you like it, take it.
41:19We could throw it in there.
41:20They've had a good connection.
41:22He'll he'll need someone other than pop to throw the ball too.
41:29And then I think, do we, are we going to put one on top of it?
41:32Cause we've got, yeah.
41:35All right.
41:35So what's the worst game this week?
41:37Here's what I'm looking at.
41:38Patriots jets is up there, but Cardinals, dolphins, Eagles,
41:43bangles, Titans, lions, saints, chargers, Panthers, Broncos.
41:53That game sucks.
41:54Okay.
41:54Okay.
41:55Oh, Bryce Young's back.
41:56Right.
41:56What do we got for Bryce?
41:58Or we can go to the Cardinals game and hammer Chatter Island.
42:02Oh, you know what?
42:03He's kind of earned that.
42:04Hasn't he?
42:04Yeah.
42:04He has.
42:05Let's see.
42:05Uh, let's see Bryce gone though.
42:08Actually they might, uh, they don't have them up.
42:09Cause I don't think he's guaranteed to start officially the starter.
42:12Yeah.
42:14What do they have?
42:17I don't even know who they're on wide receivers.
42:19Almost a DJ more, I guess it's a really get right.
42:24Deontay Johnson, right?
42:25Deontay Johnson.
42:26Yeah.
42:29Uh, Panthers.
42:32They got like, no, they have Johnson score a touchdown, which is probably
42:38they don't have anyone up there.
42:39Cause probably the quarterback play.
42:41All right.
42:41Should we take Chad round?
42:43Sure.
42:43Let's do Chad Ryland.
42:46Love it.
42:47More than one and a half field goals made.
42:48Ooh, that's one of the, all the field goal ones are like the wild demon ones.
42:52So that'll get him and sly with the demon.
42:55Yeah.
42:56All right.
42:57What do we got for multiplier here?
43:00We hit our max multiplier.
43:02Every week.
43:03I want that going up every week.
43:05We can't get it higher than this.
43:07We have a 25 time multiple.
43:12All right.
43:13So we got.
43:16Breeze hall more than 75 and a half rush yards.
43:19Yeah.
43:21Excuse me.
43:21Drake may more than 23 and a half rush yards.
43:24Yeah.
43:24Drake may more than 214 and a half pass yards.
43:28Joey slide more than one and a half field goals made.
43:31Hunter Henry more than 32 and a half receiving yards and Chad Ryland more
43:37than one and a half field goals made 25 times multiplier.
43:42Uh, it's also, I think if you do six pits, six picks, it says lineup protection.
43:48So if you get just five, right, you get your money back.
43:52So if you play, if you use code CLNS and you play that $5 hand, you win $125.
44:00If we go six for six, if you hit, if we go five for six, you get your $5 back, but
44:04you would also get $50 instantly.
44:06You don't even have to win.
44:07So if you want to put that in that $50 on this lineup, it's a $1,250 payout.
44:14Not bad right there.
44:15So life's too short to pick less.
44:18Exactly.
44:20We go big here.
44:21We don't like Mike always does like his two player lineups and he wins
44:24and he, and he celebrates now we're going for the six, six person lineup.
44:29We're going for the whammy, the multi, the 25 time multiplier.
44:33Uh, and that of course is code CLNS on price picks, play $5, get $50 instantly.
44:41Uh, and then if you win and you get your 12 grand, you head over to
44:47PXG and you get a new set of irons.
44:50Right?
44:50I think that would be the best place to spend them.
44:53Um, cause everyone is always looking to improve their golf game, either hit
44:57straighter farther, not having to worry about hitting everything.
45:01Perfect to make a good golf shot.
45:03Uh, Barth and I were definitely worried about that out on the course.
45:06So we went over to PXG and upgraded the clubs in our bags.
45:11Uh, we went to the PXG in Framingham.
45:13We each got a set of the new black ops irons.
45:16They are fantastic.
45:18Um, we are certainly hitting the ball straighter farther and not having to
45:21worry about hitting perfect shots every time.
45:24Um, and then if you go to Framingham, you can even get fitted for them.
45:28They, they bring you into all their simulators, uh, in the back and you get
45:31to work through all the trackmen data, your ball speed, your club speed.
45:35Um, you can look at the club angle to see if you're slicing the ball or, you
45:40know, you're pushing the ball and you can fix that and it helps everything.
45:44Uh, there.
45:44And then when you get out on the course, it makes it much more fun.
45:47Cause you actually get to hit the ball out of the fairway and
45:49it goes farther and straighter.
45:50And it makes it a much more enjoyable experience out there.
45:54So upgrade your bag with PXG clubs and take your game to a whole
45:57new level for a limited time.
45:59You can save $10 per club.
46:01So head over to PXG.com and use code CLNS.
46:04That's PXG.com code CLNS to save $10 per club on your order.
46:09Again, PXG.com code CLNS.
46:13So, uh, one last thing before we wrap up, we'll do a little college football.
46:19Any thoughts from either last week, uh, Texas got their big
46:23welcome to the sec moments.
46:26Bama isn't looking so hot or anything.
46:29Look ahead.
46:29I don't know how the slate, I haven't really looked at the slate this weekend,
46:32but any, yeah, it's pretty mad.
46:34The big game is LSU A&M.
46:37I do know Wisconsin, Penn state, big one.
46:41Um, but yeah, LSU A&M would be a good one.
46:44Will Campbell and that one, but any, any college football thoughts or
46:47takes or you're dying to get off your chest here?
46:50I mean, definitely not the best game for Will Campbell, uh, for
46:53Kelvin Banks last week against Georgia.
46:55Now the guy he's going up against Michael Williams is a projected
46:58first round, maybe top 10 pick.
47:00Um, but look, those kinds of guys, you got to face in the NFL, right?
47:04So, you know, we'll see what he does moving forward, but I, you
47:09didn't get the overly dominant season.
47:11I think you were looking for from either of these tackles.
47:13That doesn't mean that they're not worth drafting.
47:15That doesn't mean that they will be good.
47:16Um, but I just, you know, I've been pumping Kelvin Banks tires a lot
47:19and he had a rough game, so I feel like I should just own that and just, so
47:23that, that was my one thought on that.
47:25Um, Alabama might Cailin DeVore might need to be one and done.
47:31Uh, that was a take I had like spicy.
47:36You compare, you know, I was with some people and I was like, wow,
47:41Belichick and Saban both left and both programs are like falling to
47:44shambles and they're like, Alabama's ranked top 15 and, you know,
47:48suddenly their second loss.
47:49No, no, no, no, no, no.
47:50They don't look like Alabama
47:52losing to Vanderbilt in Kentucky.
47:55At Alabama is the equivalent of being one in six.
47:59Like it's just, it, it, those are, you can't, um, to bore looks overwhelmed.
48:06He, and I liked him.
48:07I liked him at Washington.
48:09I did.
48:09Um, and not just like, like them.
48:12Cause like he had good player.
48:13Like I thought he had a good program, not transfer into the sec.
48:16So, well, I, I forget who they play this week.
48:18They play Missouri who's maybe on the most fraud watch of any team in the
48:23country, uh, Alabama 13 and a half point favorite home, but that it'll be
48:28interesting to see what happens with that one.
48:30And then they have LSU.
48:32Uh, it looks like they have a buy and then LSU.
48:35So I mean, ever since they went up 28, nothing on Georgia, it's been all
48:40cause you know, they, that game got way too close and then they lost to Vanderbilt.
48:44They almost lost to South Carolina and then, you know, they
48:47lose to Tennessee last week.
48:48So it hasn't looked great for Alabama then.
48:53Yeah.
48:53Kelvin banks, um, not a great performance.
48:58I'm starting to get worried.
48:59You know, we're talking about will Campbell's arm length.
49:02Uh, I mean, I mean, we'll Campbell has played really good, but we'll, you
49:04know, we'll see the kind of how the measurements look and as we get more
49:08into draft season, but then yeah, Kelvin banks, like, I'm not sure if any of
49:11these guys are looking like slam dunk, like top five pick tackles, uh, like a
49:15Joe alt was, I wasn't expecting them to be as home run as Joe alt, but, um,
49:22could be a tough spot when you need an offensive tackle at the top of the
49:24draft and you might not have a surefire answer there, but Ariante or three,
49:29my guy is, is making some steam up the, up the draft boards.
49:32It sounds like, so.
49:34I'll say this.
49:35I like Ted McMillan didn't have a great game against Colorado either.
49:39So it's, it's like that for receiver too.
49:42I was telling me and Taylor were talking about it at practice.
49:45It's like, they're going to get the, you know, number one pick when there's no
49:50surefire home run quarterback that everyone wants to trade up for, or there's
49:54not a, you know, wide receiver.
49:56They can move down a few spots and get, or a tackle, right?
49:59Like last year you could've got Brian Thomas jr.
50:02At 17.
50:03And I don't know if that guy is going to be there this year.
50:06It looks like maybe it's more of like the JSN Zay flowers class.
50:10Then, you know, the Malik neighbors, Marvin Harrison, Brian Thomas class.
50:14And, you know, you need a wide receiver.
50:16You need an offensive tackle.
50:17I don't know if there's a Joe alt or an Oluf Ashanu in this class.
50:20So, um, a lot of time left, a lot of, you know, I'm also saying this, like I'm
50:27just watching these guys live mostly, right?
50:29Like we haven't gone back and studied these guys, so that could change things.
50:33But, uh, just like initial watch, it doesn't seem like, and I think we knew
50:37like coming into the year, it wasn't the strongest offensive class, especially
50:41like it was a real good, like there's a lot of edge guys to be excited about.
50:45And some defensive line guys, which they obviously need, but you know, you'll
50:48look at tackle and receiver are the big needs there and you see some
50:53inconsistencies with those top guys.
50:55Also like this happens, this happens every year.
50:58Like there's, yeah, you get risers, you get your Jane Daniels, but there's
51:02always more followers than rise because you put these guys up on a pedestal
51:07at the start of the year.
51:08And because you're so used to looking at the previous class, you're looking
51:10at it on film and you're looking at highlights and you're looking at
51:12cherry pick plays and you forget what it's like over the course of season.
51:15You know, who was a follower last year was Drake May and he
51:18obviously looks pretty dang good.
51:19So, you know, there's that element of it too.
51:22In the moment, it generally looks worse than you go back and
51:25you look at the entire body of work.
51:26You're like, all right, it wasn't perfect, but you know, full
51:29body work is there.
51:30It was solid.
51:31Yep.
51:33Yeah.
51:33So hopefully it looks better.
51:34And then let's, let's get some good quarterback play.
51:37Let's Shador looks like maybe the number one, but if someone like
51:40Carson Beck or cam ward or someone could really elevate to make a number
51:44two and provide maybe a trade down option, that would be big for the Patriots.
51:47So everyone should be rooting for some good college quarterback play.
51:52Uh, there has Jalen Melro.
51:53Do you think taking himself out of that?
51:55Or I mean, yeah, he's really good in like the playoffs.
52:00Like if they make the playoffs and then he carves up some good
52:02defenses, like maybe he could.
52:04Bump himself back into that group.
52:06But I mean, people that first half against Georgia, like, there you go.
52:11He might be the number one pick and now he's kind of fallen,
52:14fallen back.
52:14It seems like the.
52:18The, I think the QB one right now, it's gotta be cam ward.
52:20Right.
52:20I don't know what the consensus board has, but I think it's Shador.
52:24I think cam ward's been more impressive.
52:26Now he's in a better situation.
52:28Shoulders not a good situation.
52:30Yeah.
52:32And like they're close.
52:34I think it's cam ward.
52:35So right now the consensus board, and this is way, way, way, way, way far out.
52:40They have three quarterback for.
52:43They have five quarterbacks ranked in their top 30 prospects.
52:47Shoulder second cam ward, third Jalen Milrow, 10 Carson Beck, 11th Quinn, yours
52:5113th when it comes to the consensus mock, not the big board, which is different.
52:56They have for quarterbacks.
53:00Hang on a second here.
53:01They have sugar.
53:04They have cam ward going second.
53:06Shoulder going third mill row going eighth.
53:09And for some reason, Garrett Nussmeyer going 19th, who's been like, I've been
53:13impressed with them compared to what I was expecting, but no, no, that's
53:17yeah, although I was saying this the other day, like the Patriots need a JJ
53:20McCarthy to emerge and just win a bunch of games, even though he's not good.
53:24And some team gives up too much for him.
53:27Um, so we'll see.
53:29We'll see.
53:29But yeah, it's in the, I go back and forth.
53:32Is it in the Patriots best interest that there's as many good quarterbacks
53:35as possible or that there's only one.
53:37It definitely doesn't help them if there's zero.
53:40I think it depends.
53:42So if they get the number one pick, yeah, I think it's best.
53:46There's only one.
53:47Cause then you have, okay.
53:48Yeah.
53:48You know, if it's Vegas, Carolina, Cleveland, if all those teams are in
53:54the top 10, New York, then it's an all out war to get up there and get number
54:00one, like say it cam ward is the only guy people are convinced as a top five
54:04pick and you have number one, then it's, everyone's looking at you to go up.
54:09But if there's, you know, multiple guys there, then, you know, someone's
54:14still probably going to go up and get their preference, but maybe the
54:18hall, there's not as many teams competing in the hall just isn't as good.
54:21I think it's basically whatever number.
54:24Pick the Patriots have after that's how many quarterbacks you want.
54:27You won't know you want one less.
54:29Yeah.
54:30Right.
54:30So if you have the second pick first or second pick one quarterback, if you
54:37have the third pick, you can get away with it being a two quarterback class.
54:41Or no, you want the pick you have is as many quarterbacks as you want.
54:47You're right.
54:48You're right.
54:48Cause if there's, if you're pick three, like if you're three again, and then
54:52it goes quarterback quarterback, you want to sell for the last quarterback.
54:56Right.
54:57So yeah, I deal, you're right.
54:58You want it to be exactly.
55:01Exactly.
55:01Or just more than the number, because, well, there's also that element of,
55:06all right, you have the third pick.
55:07It's a four quarterback class, but you get to sell.
55:11You want to be able to sell the choice.
55:13Yeah, that's right.
55:14That's what we talked about last year with the Patriots.
55:15Like they didn't have the choice.
55:16The commander's pick was worth more.
55:18Everybody's talking about what these teams are all determined to trade up.
55:20Why isn't what I was like, well, no, if they really worried, they'd
55:22be talking to Washington because you want to be able to sell the choice.
55:25So we'll see.
55:27We got a long way to go for that.
55:28Yep.
55:30All right.
55:30We'll wrap it up there.
55:32We'll be back Monday, Tuesday, I believe, to break this one down.
55:37Pat's jets looking for some fight and, you know, some life from the Patriots
