00:00I am joined by Robert Griffin III, James Whitefield, Yates, Mina Kimes, all right, so first play
00:14we're going to look at second into one of the Patriots first offensive plays.
00:21What's going on everyone?
00:22Taylor Kyle's here for CLNS Media coming at you with another episode of Pat's Daily brought
00:27to you by our good friends at PrizePix and GameTime today to preview the Patriots Dolphins
00:32matchup coming up this weekend.
00:34The first time the Patriots have been favored in a game this season, a little bit of positive
00:39news there for Pat's fans, Tyler, I'm sorry.
00:41I am joined by friend of the show, Tyler DeSena, dude, you have been doing a great job putting
00:46into perspective what exactly is going on with the Dolphins, so I'm excited to catch
00:50up, see what's going on with two teams who are not in the best place right now, might
00:54not be a fun game this weekend, but of course, we are going to have to go through it.
00:59So you're going to help us prepare and get an idea of what to expect.
01:02But before we get into all of that, first off, buddy, how are you doing?
01:06And welcome back to the show.
01:08I thank you so much for having me, of course, I when it comes to like how I'm doing, talking
01:15to you about this matchup always was going to be exciting.
01:19But the fact that it is where these two teams are, where we're talking again, if you would
01:24have told me that this was a matchup a month ago that the Patriots would be favored in
01:28or even considered, you know, a real possibility to come into my like to go win without even
01:35like playing their rookie quarterback at this point, I would have told you that, you know,
01:40a lot of bad things would have had to transpire.
01:42And that's where it feels like we are with the Dolphins.
01:45And I know that on the Patriots end as well, there's a lot of things that aren't trending
01:48in the right direction.
01:49These two teams are probably a lot more similar than we thought they would be, you know, August
01:55or September, even.
01:56Yeah, man, the injuries have been brutal for the Patriots.
01:59That's really been the biggest thing.
02:00Now there's a lot going wrong.
02:02You know, when you're one in three, usually it's not one or two things, obviously.
02:05But we're going to start off by catching each other up on where each team is at this point.
02:09So the Patriots actually released their injury report today.
02:12I'm going to pull that up on my end real quick.
02:15So Marcus Jones was added, actually.
02:17He was limited with a groin injury.
02:19Jabril Peppers was upgraded to limited after not being at practice yesterday.
02:23He has a shoulder.
02:24And Jaheim Bell is a full participant.
02:26He's dealing with a neck injury.
02:28But you know, Jaheim's only played one snap this season.
02:30That's not really huge.
02:31And then on the Patriots offensive line front, that's been huge.
02:34They obviously are going to lose David Andrews for the season, according to Ian Rappaport,
02:38due to a shoulder injury, which I'm pretty sure he'd been playing through for a while.
02:42Because when you look at the tape, there was no play.
02:44You know, usually when a guy gets hurt, just reflexively, they'll kind of pay some attention
02:48to what it is.
02:49Never saw that.
02:50Nick Lavrette, who's the center right now, he was rotating in with the starters during
02:54practices.
02:55So I was kind of wondering what was going on there.
02:57David Andrews also, you know, clearly a warrior, but he didn't seem like he was playing at
03:01the same caliber.
03:02So he's done for the season.
03:03So now the offensive line, based on today's practice, looks like it's going to be the
03:07Darion Lowe at left tackle, Michael Jordan back at left guard.
03:11He was dealing with an ankle injury.
03:13And in the middle, once again, Nick Lavrette, right guard.
03:15It's actually, might be either Leighton Robinson or City.
03:18So that's going to be pretty interesting.
03:20I think Leighton Robinson's banged up right now.
03:22He's got an ankle and a wrist, and then a right tackle, stalwart Mike Nwenu.
03:27You'd rather have him at guard, but he's going to be a tackle because they just don't have
03:30great depth there.
03:32So that's kind of the injury update for the Patriots.
03:35Quarterback Jacoby Bursette hasn't been great yesterday or last Sunday, had five turnover
03:40worthy plays as a backup who really isn't giving you many big time throws.
03:43Although he did have his first two Jalen Polk last week.
03:46So Patriots offense really just needs to stop hurting itself.
03:49But the turnovers for Andre Stevenson fumbled four games in a row, lost his second fumble
03:54in a row.
03:55Gerard Mayo said there's a chance he's actually benched for Antonio Gibson.
03:58So it's going to be interesting to see how they handled that.
04:01Then defensively, Kyle Duggar looks like he might miss some time.
04:05And Jabril Peppers, like I mentioned, is banged up.
04:07Last week, we saw Jalen Hawkins and Dale Pettis play a lot.
04:10Both guys looked like they were involved somehow in miscommunications.
04:13Not sure if they were responsible necessarily.
04:15But with the Dolphins deep passing game, Patriots playing more quarters than usual.
04:19Those guys are going to be huge.
04:21And then the defensive line pass rush hasn't really been great.
04:24Joshua Uche has been more disciplined as a pass rusher, not so much as a run defender.
04:28But he had one pressure last week, obviously not a great sign.
04:32And Keon White killing it on the inside, but contain was an issue for him early on.
04:36He figured that out.
04:37So yeah, Patriots defense really just needs to do a better job getting pressure
04:41on the quarterback, communication on the back end.
04:44And offensively, I think they need to run the game 30 times in this one.
04:47Because the offensive line, we talked about pass protection.
04:50It's just not easy when you have a different lineup every single week.
04:53So that's where the Patriots are at, Tyler.
04:55I know I threw a lot at you,
04:56kind of catching everybody else up on what's going on in this game as well.
05:00But now it is your turn.
05:01Let us know where the Dolphins stand heading into week five.
05:05Great, this is so exciting to see where this Dolphins team is.
05:10But yeah, it's a lot of a similar story with injuries.
05:13Obviously, Tua out until I believe at least week eight.
05:17The offense is full of injuries right now.
05:20There are a lot of guys that are just limited participants.
05:23But it looks like most of them are going to be able to play Sunday.
05:26So, and it should be the first game for Odell Beckham Jr.
05:29He's been a participant these last two weeks.
05:32They initiated his return window, so it looks like he's gonna play.
05:37But as for the defense, that's kind of where the Dolphins have been at their best.
05:41They've been the best defense in the NFL when it comes to getting teams off the
05:45field on third down, but now they're potentially losing two guys.
05:48Jordan Poyer did not participate in practice either Wednesday or Thursday.
05:53And Jalen Phillips has now been announced that he's out for
05:55the season in a group that has already been really, really depleted.
06:00I mean, you're gonna be looking at Emmanuel Agba potentially working
06:04Deshaun Hand out there, Mo Camara and Chop Robinson probably getting a bulk
06:08of the snaps and those are guys who have been shaky at best when it comes to how
06:12Miami has tried to especially defend the run when it comes to setting that edge.
06:18They've had some issues out there even with the guys they do have.
06:21Having to go to Chop Robinson who really at this point is like a one move
06:26kind of pass rush specialist and him having this potentially for most of the game.
06:32That's where the big weakness is for this team right now.
06:36All right, well, clearly not looking great for
06:39either one of these teams heading into the game, but the game must be played.
06:42So we are going to get into the key matchups.
06:44But before I do, quick word from our friends over at PrizePix, be right back.

07:49You don't even need to win to receive that $50 bonus.
07:51It's guaranteed.
07:52PrizePix, run your game.
07:56All right, Tyler, you're up first.
07:58What is your first key matchup heading into Patriots-Dolphins?
08:02I had a lot that kind of came to mind because the way the Dolphins have played
08:07over the last two weeks, two and a half weeks without Tua,
08:11not exactly how you would expect them to play.
08:15They're running a lot of the same stuff they would run for Tua.
08:18There isn't as much running up the middle,
08:20which Miami's actually been very effective at in comparison to the league.
08:24They've been trying to get a lot going on the edge.
08:26And when your receivers that are trying to block out there are all
08:29under the height of like five, nine, five, ten,
08:32sometimes it's a little difficult out there.
08:34So my first thing would be, I wanna see Miami run up the middle more.
08:40And I think going with these,
08:43like looking at the Patriots interior defensive line.
08:47Guys like Devon Godshaw, Keon White, if you have to have that guy,
08:50have him setting an edge.
08:51I wanna see what Miami up front looks like up against this Patriots front.
08:56Cuz obviously Keon White's had a really good start to the season pass rush wise.
09:00But like you said, there were some edge setting concerns.
09:03And then those second level linebackers,
09:05I know that you've got a familiar face there in Raekwon McMillan.
09:08Trying to get Miami up the middle and get those kind of plays.
09:13I feel like it further get the edge game going because of the fact that
09:17Miami has Tyler Huntley who's starting at quarterback.
09:19So running some of that zone read style stuff.
09:22You're gonna probably try to get it between the tackles and
09:24then have him pull a couple outside.
09:26I would love to see that be the basis for Miami's outside run game.
09:29Rather than trying to get to more of these crack tosses that we've kind of seen
09:33the first four weeks of the season.
09:35Yeah, and actually it's gonna be tough going inside because Devon Godshaw,
09:39I actually just saw this before the show.
09:40Only Cameron Hayward has more run stops.
09:42That dude has been on a tear, especially the last two weeks.
09:45And then Eric Johnson, he's a nose tackle.
09:47They claimed on waivers from the Colts after roster cuts.
09:51He looked way better against the 49ers than he actually did the week before.
09:55Cuz the Colts are all about getting up field.
09:57Basically, you're trying to stop the run on the way to the quarterback.
10:00He was so used to that that when they put him against the Jets,
10:03there were times where he just shot up field and completely abandoned his gap.
10:06And the coaches were saying, yeah, it's not really his fault.
10:08He's still getting used to our system because the Patriots
10:11try to be gap sound and disciplined and they're more two gappers.
10:14He did a great job and that freed up Devon Godshaw to play more of a defensive
10:18end role in their odd front.
10:20So that's gonna be tough.
10:21Although Daniel quality has been pretty solid.
10:24But like you mentioned, if Keone White,
10:25especially if he's inside, he may be kind of vulnerable.
10:28And when you look at where the Dolphins actually had success running the ball
10:30last year, compared to where they had success this or
10:33compared to how the Patriots struggled last week when they did.
10:37It was running those really long developing outside played source to buy
10:41attacking Dietrich Weisman more of the downhill stuff.
10:43So I think if they do try to go downhill,
10:45it's probably gonna be trying to combo Dietrich wise.
10:48Then those second level defenders are really gonna have to make sure that they
10:52don't know they do their jobs obviously contain the run.
10:55So actually my key matchup was the Dolphins defensive line or
10:58the Patriots defensive line, I'm sorry, versus the Dolphins offensive line.
11:01We kind of touched on all the run game stuff.
11:03But for me, the big thing is gonna be contained.
11:06Because Tyler Huntley we know is a really athletic quarterback.
11:09I know only scrambled twice last week and both of those were up middle.
11:12But the Patriots edge contained has been pretty shaky.
11:15Now, like I mentioned, they got it together against Brock Purdy.
11:19But every single week this season we have seen that come up as an issue and
11:23they haven't faced anybody who's remotely as athletic as Tyler Huntley.
11:26So I wanna see Keon White, Joshua Uche.
11:29I wanna make and even Dietrich wise at times to be honest,
11:32if they're gonna try to use line games to create some kind of scheme pressure.
11:36Need to make sure that the guy who's supposed to set the edge knows that he's
11:39supposed to do it.
11:40And then does an effective job because I really think this game is all gonna be
11:44about the line of scrimmage because of the quarterback situations on both sides.
11:48And if the Patriots are just letting Tyler Huntley run wild or
11:51they're not stopping the run, it's gonna be extremely difficult for
11:54the Patriots to stay in this one.
11:55Because I don't know how much success they're gonna have on the offensive side
11:58of the ball.
11:59Yeah, no, that makes sense.
12:01I mean, because that's pretty much where I'm like,
12:04I feel like the trenches are kind of the key to this game.
12:07And I think that makes a lot of sense when it comes to the fact that neither
12:10team is probably starting, neither team is starting their long term quarterback
12:14answer, so it's not gonna be nearly as much pushing the ball down the field
12:18probably, which is why my next key matchup was going to be
12:24pretty much the same thing I said before, but this time the Patriots interior
12:29offensive line versus those Dolphins guys because Miami has not been able to.
12:35Miami has not been really stopped when it comes to getting interior pressure.
12:38They've been a really good team stopping the run,
12:40which I feel like has been a little overblown as a weakness of theirs.
12:44When in reality, they've been pretty decent.
12:47And I think that if you're gonna have a team in the Patriots who's
12:50roughly middle of the pack when it comes to inside versus outside runs,
12:54they're a little below average when it comes to attempts in between the tackles.
12:59You still are gonna wanna stop a guy like Ramondre Stevenson if he's the starter,
13:03Antonio Gibson on the outside, I think more so if he's the starter.
13:06But the guys that Miami has up front in Calais Campbell, in Zach Seeler,
13:12in Deshaun Hand, who's had some really good reps,
13:14those are the guys I wanna see kind of wreak havoc on this game,
13:17especially without a David Andrews.
13:19You really have an opportunity to get the New England Patriots in some
13:23obvious passing situations, and then that's where Miami's just been at their best.
13:27They're the number one team getting teams off the field on third down.
13:30And a lot of that's gonna have to come from the interior,
13:33especially if you don't have Jalen Phillips, who now is out for the year.
13:36And you're gonna be running a lot of Chop Robinson, a lot of Mo Camara,
13:40a lot of Emanuel Ogba out on that outside, really up to those guys in the middle
13:44to try to make plays and try to disrupt Jacoby Brissett.
13:48Yeah, we're on the same page once again, you made a bunch of good points.
13:50And more from a Patriots perspective, the thing I'm gonna be looking for
13:54is how Leighton Robinson or City So, and then Michael Jordan,
13:57are able to handle those inside guys for the Dolphins.
13:59Zach Seeler, I feel like we talk about it every time you're on here.
14:02I will tell anybody who listens,
14:04he's one of the most underrated defensive lineman in the NFL.
14:07He's off to a great start as a run defender and as a pass rusher from what I've seen.
14:11You know, Deshaun Hand, I know he's not the most explosive guy, but
14:15really he's just supposed to be eating space and
14:17trying to make sure guys like David Long are free at the second level.
14:21And like you mentioned it with the edge guys,
14:23I think there's gonna be a vulnerability for the Dolphins.
14:26If the Patriots, they've been better at running outside zone,
14:28especially when they run it to the right.
14:30I think if they can get Mike and Wendell against one of those guys,
14:33that may create some soft edges for them to exploit.
14:35But then also for the interior, Nick Levrett, like how is he gonna,
14:39Kaleas Campbell, I don't know how I forgot to mention him.
14:42I know there was a play like a week or two ago where he deflected a pass and
14:45then Zach Seeler actually picked it off.
14:47Two of the three interceptions for the Dolphins, interestingly,
14:51are actually defensive linemen cuz Will Leavis threw directly to Emmanuel Ogba
14:54last week, which was insane.
14:56But like we said, this is gonna be a game that's about the line of scrimmage.
15:00And I think for the Patriots, like I said,
15:01they gotta run the ball at least 30 times.
15:03Not necessarily just to get to the number,
15:05cuz I know sometimes people conflate that number with,
15:08just because you ran it 30 times you win.
15:10The reason that the win percentage is usually pretty high when teams
15:13are able to run 30 times is cuz it keeps the defense off balance.
15:17Where if you're running that often, one,
15:19you're probably controlling the pace of the game.
15:21You're probably close in the game because you can run that much.
15:23And it puts the defense in a position where they don't really know,
15:26is this a run, are you running play action?
15:28Is it a play action, and then you're gonna dump it off on a screen?
15:31That's been the thing the Patriots have struggled with,
15:33because they're getting blown out.
15:34They've been blown out so early in the past two games.
15:37So they gotta make sure they win the line of scrimmage, get the run game going, and
15:40don't put themselves, like you said, in those positions,
15:42where they have to deal with the Dolphins on third down.
15:45I'm also kind of curious, from your perspective,
15:47why have they been so good stopping the run?
15:49And have there been any vulnerabilities?
15:52I think a lot of it does come down to those interior defensive linemen.
15:56I think have been absolutely phenomenal,
15:58like Miami is just kind of letting them eat, they aren't.
16:02There are times where they are tasked with stopping gaps, and
16:04then you have guys like Jordan Brooks behind him.
16:07Jordan Brooks has been fantastic for his first four games in a Miami Dolphin uniform.
16:12David Long has been inconsistent, I think, when it comes to his ability,
16:17especially against the run, against the pass.
16:19You're not expecting necessarily a plus pass defender in David Long.
16:23But there have been a lot of times where it seems like he's guessing, and
16:26if he gets it right, it's getting blown up.
16:28But if he gets it wrong, you're gonna see a huge gain,
16:31kind of like what happened in that Buffalo game,
16:33where they rolled out an extra offensive lineman,
16:36kind of triple-teamed Miami's defensive lineman.
16:39And then you're forced to get guys like Jordan Poyer, David Long,
16:42those guys kind of guessing at the second level.
16:44And that's where Miami's kind of been able to be exploited.
16:47And you mentioned that jumbo package.
16:49The Patriots have been using that every week.
16:50It used to be Caden Wallace.
16:52He suffered a pretty tough injury, so it looks like it's gonna be Zach Thomas,
16:55another guy they picked up on waivers after roster cuts.
16:58I have a feeling we're gonna see a lot of duo.
17:01Same thing we saw against the Bengals, where they try to press the middle and
17:04then bounce it outside and really challenge the linebackers' discipline.
17:08And then hopefully, like I already said, outside zone,
17:10maybe some toss plays, we're seeing some more of those.
17:12But sounds like running down the middle is not gonna be a great idea for
17:16either team, but obviously, we're gonna have to prove it on the field.
17:19Now, we are gonna wrap this up with our final key matchups each.
17:22But first, quick word from our friends over at GameTime.
17:25Be right back.
17:25Levi's Stadium at San Francisco 49ers, Patriots versus Niners.
17:30Little is 115 bucks right now on the GameTime app.
17:32Not too bad if you're making the trip out there.
17:35If you didn't buy your tickets yet, wait a little bit more.
17:38But use GameTime cuz you might be able to get an even lower price
17:41as kickoff approaches.
17:44GameTime is the best ticketing app out there.

18:46What time is it?
18:47GameTime!
18:50All right, brother, what is your final key matchup?
18:53We'll share those before we get into our predictions.
18:56This one, I think, kind of goes in the flow of the last two.
19:00It's gonna be a lot of those Patriots receivers, running backs, and
19:04whoever is catching those underneath dump off kind of passes that probably will have
19:08to be a bulk of this game plan against Miami's second level defenders,
19:12be it those Jordan Brooks, David Long.
19:15Now, no Jordan Poyer, very likely, as he's missed the last two practices.
19:19I think those are my kind of big time, those are the players, I think,
19:23from Miami, you might not see David Long.
19:26He's been limited.
19:27You might see him on a limited basis.
19:28So that might mean more Anthony Walker.
19:31Jordan Brooks is somebody who's made a lot of big time tackles.
19:34But at the same time, if they're throwing these little screens,
19:37little dump offs to a Romandre Stephens and to an Antonio Gibson,
19:40to a Demario Douglas, who is somebody who is probably the most
19:44explosive weapon in that short yardage on the Patriots.
19:48I think that it's gonna come down to Miami making a lot of those rally tackles to
19:52the football.
19:53And when you take into account that some of the angles,
19:55specifically on the back end at safety, have not been the best to start the year,
19:59when teams have gotten to that second level.
20:01That's where I think Miami can be exploited and has to clean things up.
20:06We saw each of the last couple weeks, I mean,
20:08the play that Jalen Phillips got injured on.
20:11Jordan Poyer dives to go make the tackle.
20:14And the reason it's a broken tackle is cuz the angle's not great.
20:17And he's been somebody who has honestly very much struggled through these first
20:21four weeks of the season.
20:22And if he's not playing, maybe it's Marcus May.
20:25Maybe it's a little bit of Elijah Campbell.
20:27But I think having those second level defenders rally to the football and
20:31not give up missed tackles is going to be huge,
20:34especially if New England is playing with any sort of negative game script.
20:38And is having to throw the ball down the field.
20:41Dude, we're reading each other's minds.
20:44This is kind of crazy.
20:44So this is the first time that it's not literally the same key matchup.
20:47But I'm basically saying the same thing for the other side of the ball.
20:50I've got Jelani Tabai versus Devon Achan.
20:53Because teams have been picking on Jelani Tabai a little bit.
20:56So in previous seasons, like last year especially,
20:59I think he was one of PFF's highest graded coverage linebackers.
21:02A big reason for that is one,
21:03when he just has to come downhill and tackle guys in space.
21:06He generally does a pretty good job.
21:08And if you try to throw over his head as an underneath defender,
21:10he does a great job elevating and getting his hand on it.
21:13But what teams are doing this season is they're attacking him more horizontally.
21:17So we saw against the Jets, Tyler Conklin had a shake route and
21:20completely got wide open over the middle of the field.
21:23Then last week, you saw the 49ers, a really well executed play.
21:26They made it look like they were trying to pick Jelani Tabai to the flat.
21:30But then Jordan Mason broke back inside, Tabai looked like he was stuck in mud.
21:34And then it turned into what should have been a touchdown, if not for a penalty.
21:38I think if Devon Achan,
21:40I think isn't he the second most targeted receiver for the Dolphins right now?
21:43It's definitely up there.
21:44I mean, I could check individually, but I think that would be accurate.
21:48He's definitely one of the most targeted players for Miami.
21:51They put him literally everywhere.
21:53There are plays where he's lined up out wide, in the slot, in the backfield.
21:58Doing some of that little Shanahan motion,
22:01where they've got him stepping outside in the McCaffrey style plays.
22:05Getting him those little pitch outs with blockers in space, he is everywhere.
22:11Yeah, and that's terrifying.
22:12Because like you said, if you have Jelani Tabai versus Devon Achan in space.
22:16If he catches it, and Tabai can't make the tackle, or
22:18just because of the difference in explosiveness, he just can't bring the guy
22:22down, that's a guy who can house it.
22:24That scares the crap out of me, if I'm being totally honest.
22:27So I know people talk about the cornerbacks.
22:29And honestly, we can get into that for the predictions.
22:31Cuz I feel like people are still gonna be kind of curious how that matchup could go.
22:35But I really think that Jelani Tabai, if he gets one-on-one with Devon Achan,
22:38that's a matchup win for the Dolphins.
22:41Just gotta make sure, he's gonna get his catches, he's gonna get his targets.
22:44But you gotta make sure you at least minimize the damage.
22:47And don't let him loose like we saw last week on, again,
22:50what was almost a touchdown for Jordan Mason.
22:52Yeah, and one note on Achan, if Raheem Mostert is playing,
22:56which he's been trending towards.
22:57Because I believe he's practiced in each of the last two weeks.
23:01Or each of the last two days of practice leading into this week.
23:05That would mean more Devon Achan in that F-style role,
23:08where he's kind of all over the place.
23:09And more is like a pass catching option.
23:12Because a lot of what Miami has had to do with Achan, with no Mostert these last
23:16three weeks, is kind of bring him between the tackles or
23:20make him that starting running back.
23:22They haven't really leaned on Jeff Wilson.
23:24Jalen Wright is somebody you can tell they don't have full confidence in.
23:27But Mostert, especially in week one, was the guy that they kind of brought in to be
23:31either between the tackles or at least a bulk of the carries for the running backs.
23:36And then Achan was somebody who they tried to mix in on some explosives.
23:40Get him on a lot of those quick screens and get him out on those edges.
23:45So I wouldn't be shocked if you see Achan with less touches than maybe he's had in
23:49these last couple of weeks.
23:51But those touches are a lot more designed and less him getting 10 to 15 carries.
23:57And we kind of touched on it before we get to the predictions.
23:58I do want to talk about the Dolphins wide receiver.
24:01So sounds like we could see some pony personnel where you have the Mostert and
24:04Achan on the field.
24:06But when it comes to when the Dolphins have their three receivers out there,
24:08what should we expect the groupings to look like?
24:10And where are guys going to be lining up?
24:13I think you can see a lot of guys lining up in different spots.
24:16Miami clearly made Odell Beckham a priority.
24:19And if he's playing, that is something that we haven't seen all year.
24:24I know that we're probably going to see a lighter version of the playbook.
24:27Because again, Tyler Huntley is only going to have been here for
24:30about three weeks.
24:31But Miami really based a lot of their offensive decision making this offseason
24:35on that 11 personnel and wanting to maximize those obvious passing situations.
24:41Because that's really where they were not great last year.
24:44They couldn't really play from behind.
24:46They weren't coming from behind to win any games.
24:48And really they were getting stopped when they couldn't run as much motion.
24:52They couldn't catch you off guard with play action.
24:54So they really wanted to bring in a guy who could go win over the middle and
24:57Odell Beckham Jr.
24:58I'm expecting him to be mostly the slot guy.
25:01But it is interesting to see how much are they going to be willing to
25:05attack those outsides like they've been doing and having a guy like him block.
25:09Because lately it's been a lot of Braxton Berrios blocking.
25:12And at Braxton Berrios' height of maybe 5'9", you can imagine-
25:16Yeah, old friend Braxton Berrios.
25:18Yeah, you can imagine how that's been working out with him trying to block
25:22on the edge.
25:22No disrespect to him, he's working his tail off.
25:25But not exactly somebody who's going to have the size,
25:28especially when a lot of the NFL is moving towards these big nickel looks with all
25:32these safeties on the field.
25:34He's just not somebody who has impacted the passing game as much as you'd like or
25:38somebody who can really block out on the edge.
25:39So OBJ is a huge addition for this team.
25:42And I wouldn't be shocked to see him line up a lot in the slot in Miami,
25:46try to keep Waddle, especially being that main perimeter guy.
25:50Maybe they move Tyreek around here and there.
25:52Okay, and then you touched on motion as well.
25:54Do you think we're going to see as much motion as we usually do from the Dolphins
25:57because Tyler Huntley's in?
25:58Because I know a lot of coaches sometimes want to keep it simple with those
26:02quarterbacks.
26:02And because motion takes so much timing and coordination, it can be tough with a guy
26:07who doesn't have a ton of experience in the system to be able to operate with all
26:10of that.
26:11Yeah, one of the really shocking things that I think I could count as like a
26:14negative for the Dolphins these last couple of weeks without Tua is that the
26:18motion has not gone away at all.
26:21They have been running a ton of it.
26:23They've been trying to get set, running a lot of shifts.
26:25They had like three or four legal shifts in the second half on last Monday night.
26:30They've been really undisciplined, and a lot of it comes down to the fact that
26:34Tyler Huntley is not exactly keyed in on the timing of some of these plays.
26:38Because like I said, he's only been here for two weeks as of the last game.
26:42So I wouldn't be shocked to see Miami try to limit it a little bit more.
26:47But every time I say Miami's going to move in one direction with something,
26:51they seem to stick.
26:52And I'm not gonna lie,
26:53the coaching has looked a little stubborn through these first four weeks of the
26:56season.
26:57So I wouldn't be shocked if they just keep trying to go with running a same
27:02league high amount of motion.
27:04And what would you like to see?
27:05I know you touched on how the coaching staff hasn't adapted to Tyler Huntley when
27:09you have situations like in Green Bay where Malik Will has played really well
27:12because the coaching staff changed the way they usually do things and catered to him.
27:16What would you like to see them do more with Huntley so
27:18he can actually be successful?
27:20I think a lot of it comes down to getting back to some of the like,
27:23I think it was Robert Mays on the athletic football show put it best when he was
27:27talking about the Saints.
27:29He was like, what they were doing through that first two weeks of the season was
27:33playing the hits of like 2017 and 18 Kyle Shanahan offenses.
27:37Where it is so much under center using your explosive receivers on play action
27:41concepts and getting back to like either running the ball between the tackles or
27:46I feel like heavy set outside zone football.
27:49And I think that Miami could very much get back to that style of offense, but
27:54they've been so siloed and like going out under the gun or in pistol.
27:58They're rarely ever under center.
28:00And I feel like if they could establish some sort of just inside ground game not
28:05focused as much about getting teams like there's so
28:08much trying to manipulate linebackers horizontally going on with like
28:12The crack tosses and the motion that I feel like they haven't focused as much on
28:17getting those linebackers to creep up and in a game like this where you're probably
28:21going to have to run the ball successfully in order to win.
28:24I want to see more of trying to displace them and
28:27then winning with play action over the middle of the field,
28:29which we really haven't seen.
28:30That's going to be interesting.
28:31I'll be on the lookout for that myself.
28:33But but we're entering the end of the show.
28:36Let's get to some predictions.
28:37You can give a score you don't have to.
28:39I generally stay away from scores because I feel like they just make me a little extra
28:44wrong but if you give one hour turn the favor so no pressure buddy score no score.
28:49What do you think is going to happen in this game and who's going to win this entire
28:52episode I've been going back and forth in my head about how I feel like this is going to go.
28:57But it really does feel like we are as Dolphins fans my like as myself.
29:04The Dolphins have their back up against the wall in a way that they haven't in Mike
29:08McDaniel's whole tenure.
29:09They've been an early season success team.
29:12We I mean that's been very much memed and joked about online that they can't win in
29:16the cold.
29:17They can't win in December.
29:18They can't win against playoff teams whatever it is.
29:20But this is the earliest in the year that they've kind of been figured out so to speak.
29:24So it feels like either a big adjustment has to be made or we're going to be looking at
29:30a situation where Mike McDaniel might give up play calling at some point or we're going
29:34to be calling for some sort of change in that locker room.
29:38So my guess is Miami is going to bring out a little more of trying to establish a
29:43Shanahan style identity.
29:44I'm really I maybe this is just a wishful thinking but I feel like some of the stuff
29:48that I've said I feel like it kind of all came to a head last Monday night that things
29:53have to change.
29:54So I'm going to pick Miami.
29:55I'm going to think I still think it's going to be a close one probably still low scoring
30:00somewhere in like that 16 13 maybe 20 to 17 range.
30:04But yeah I think Miami could win that by like about a field goal.
30:08But again could be very wishful thinking on my part.
30:11Yeah.
30:12Just looking at Miami and where they're kind of headed and it feels very dysfunctional
30:16and the Patriots are teetering on that territory as well.
30:19That's why I do think they're going to win this game.
30:21I think that they understand this is a prime opportunity.
30:24Devon gotcha even said out loud that he feels like it's very winnable.
30:28The upcoming slate of games that they have.
30:30I think they need to get something going especially before they face the Texans.
30:33That's kind of a speed bump there in terms of yeah you got some pretty ideal matchups
30:37and then oh my God like almost guaranteed playoff team.
30:41But yeah I just I'm not super confident I'll be honest about that because I do know that
30:46Dolphins have done such a good job stopping the run and I feel like that's the only way
30:49the Patriots are going to be able to move the ball with any kind of consistency.
30:53So I do predict the Patriots to win this one.
30:55Like you said ugly game it's not going to be very high scoring but I am also curious
30:59before I get you out of here.
31:00What have you seen from Anthony Weaver's defense.
31:03Does it look a lot like what we've seen in Baltimore in that whole coaching tree or does
31:07he is he doing something a little different maybe you didn't expect.
31:10I think it's been a lot of the Baltimore stuff.
31:12I think that the big thing that everyone was kind of looking for that kind of became the
31:16buzzword was like big nickel and Kyle Hamilton.
31:19But then again not having Kyle Hamilton like you know the other 31 teams in the league.
31:24You're not going to see nearly as much of that.
31:27But I've liked a lot of the blitz stuff a lot of simulated pressure stuff.
31:30Miami loves sending those linebackers be it Jordan Brooks or David Long because those
31:34are two guys who regardless of what you think about them as any other part of their game
31:39are amazing at getting downhill in that pass rush game.
31:42So I think that that's been a kind of a lot of it up front.
31:46They've been willing to disguise on the back end.
31:48Honestly Anthony Weaver has been my favorite part of watching Dolphins film through four
31:53weeks which I guess is probably a low bar considering how we like how the team's performed.
31:58But at the same time I think that's a guy who if you get to you know December and Miami
32:05is even looking like they could be a playoff team I would not be shocked to see him getting
32:09head coaching interviews the way that the defense has looked bought in even when the
32:13offense has not been able to produce on top of the fact that the defense is producing
32:18really good numbers.
32:19I think that's somebody that honestly should probably get head coaching looks come this
32:23offseason.
32:24Very interesting.
32:25I know Jalen Ramsey wasn't happy about how he was being used last year.
32:29Does he seem happier with what it is now.
32:30It looked like he's really kind of sticking to the boundary but obviously those numbers
32:34can kind of be distorted based on the game situation and stuff like that.
32:37Yeah.
32:38I think when it comes to Ramsey specifically I think one thing that he's happier about
32:43is that he has done a lot of traveling with receivers this this year thus far I know in
32:48week one it was Brian Thomas and week two was Keon Coleman like they were and I know
32:53that those aren't necessarily like the biggest names both being rookies but a lot of what
32:57Jalen Ramsey has done has been traveling with whoever that traditional X style receiver
33:03is and I think that that was a lot of the issue under Fangio is that you were getting
33:07a lot of cater co who matched up with Stefan Diggs and not exactly being willing to adjust
33:13when teams are moving their number one receiver to the slot or moving him across the field
33:17they were kind of just playing Ramsey as like the right side corner rather than letting
33:22him move around the field and I think that's where he's been a lot better this year and
33:26a lot like a lot happier probably in his usage.
33:30I was I was hoping the Patriots might be able to keep Jalen poke away from him because just
33:35based on how their receiver situations worked out like last week we went downfield six times
33:40five of those were to poke I know it might sound crazy but he is their number one threat
33:45really especially because tomorrow Douglas hasn't really been getting a lot of targets
33:4920% hinted that really just flat out said that he had to get used to throwing to a shorter
33:53receiver this summer and we all kind of laughed at it but now pop is like not getting a lot
33:58of targets except for one game where it was very clearly we're trying to feed him a lot
34:02so that's why also Kendrick Bourne returned to practice from the pub list obviously
34:07Torres ACL last year in Miami him coming back this week would be massive because
34:13I'm sorry yeah no that's a huge one because like I feel like also his ability to like
34:18even block from the slot if you want to like try to get Miami
34:21in those situations with Miami's edge players and trying to get runs to the outside like
34:26I feel like that's been a lot of their dirty work when they come out and even some later
34:30personnel so I honestly did not know he was practicing this week and I think that that
34:34could be like a big pendulum shift when it comes to how that affects New England's identity especially
34:41100% and then like Kendall Fuller I know he was practicing today he had a concussion
34:44looks like he's gonna play so Storm Duck last week phenomenal name by the way absolutely
34:49incredible oh but if Kendrick Bourne like Fuller's a good cornerback but those are two pros like I
34:54feel like they could at least battle it out obviously hope we see more pop but also just
34:58for the guys that could return this week just so you know and everyone at home just as a reminder
35:02Sione Takitaki is also eligible he's kind of like a Jelani Tavai clone in a way where he's that
35:08adjuster type where he'll play some weak side linebacker but also bump down in the line of
35:12scrimmage really like to buy not really much of a pass rusher more of a run defender although he
35:16can do a little something as a blitzer off the ball and then also Marte Mapu which is huge because
35:21like I said Kyle Duggar's probably not going to play in this game Jabril Peppers is dealing with
35:25a shoulder injury he felt really hard after getting an interception last week so we have no
35:30idea what his status is going to be like and then behind them there's Jalen Hawkins who had a couple
35:34down plays Del Pettis an undrafted rookie who has played well but still don't want him on the field
35:40necessarily when you have guys like Jalen Waddle and Tyree Kill who could take the top off with the
35:45Patriots playing a lot more quarters techniques so Mapu can come back improve on some of the
35:50discipline issues he had last year again actually in Miami there was that Tyree Kill touchdown where
35:55he was partially responsible for biting on a play action and giving it up on a bracket coverage so
36:00those are the guys that are eligible Marte Mapu probably going to be more of like a tight end
36:03eraser big nickel type if he does play not all those guys are going to play but Gerard Mayo said
36:09it's possible that we will end up seeing them but Tyler don't want to take up any more of your
36:13time buddy this was so much fun a pleasure as always seeing and talking to you and before I
36:17let you go please let the people know where they can find you what great stuff you got coming down
36:21the pipeline that we should be looking out for well I really appreciate you having me obviously
36:25this is so much fun I mean like talking this kind of just talking X's and O's stuff it really
36:31brings like an excitement especially for a Dolphins team that doesn't have much to be
36:35excited about as of right now but yeah as of where to find me I mean the main spot is at
36:41DeSena as you see my last name DeSena sports on Twitter similarly on like TikTok print Instagram
36:48a lot of those places I'm just kind of posting like short form stuff but a lot of it goes on
36:52Twitter anyway that's kind of the main spot and as for Dolphins specific content if you want to
36:58check in on one of your AFC East rivals Finn's Focus MIA on Twitter would also be a big spot for
37:04that you're really doing fantastic work buddy keep it up thank you so much for coming back on
37:09and thank you all as always for watching now take care of yourselves take care of each other
37:14we will see you next time peace y'all
