27 February - National weather forecast presented by Alex Burkill.
Transcript
00:00Hello, very good morning to you. Watch out for some fog and freezing fog patches first thing this morning, particularly across central southern parts of England.
00:08However, across Scotland and Northern Ireland, it's a wet start here because we have a front and this front is gradually going to make its way southeastwards as we go through the day,
00:17bringing some heavy outbreaks of rain across northern parts.
00:20But the front does break up and ease a little bit as it pushes its way southeastwards later on into England and Wales as we head through into the afternoon.
00:28In the southeast ahead of the front, it's actually going to stay largely fine.
00:32Yes, there'll be that fog around first thing, but this should lift and clear.
00:36And so it's going to be a generally dry picture, albeit the rain not arriving until later on here.
00:41Behind the front, we do have a scattering of showers, particularly across parts of Scotland, some sunny breaks in between.
00:47But worth noting, some of those showers could have a bit of a wintry element to them.
00:50So some sleet or snow possible over the highest ground.
00:53Temperatures will be near normal for the time of year, just about scraping into double figures in a few places, but most places staying in single figures.
01:01Like I said, in the southeast, after a dry day, we will see a few spots of rain arriving here later on and some thicker cloud.
01:08But that front really breaking up as it makes its way across the country.
01:11Otherwise, a decent amount of clear skies, at least to start the night.
01:14And under these clear skies, we will see temperatures taking a bit of a dip.
01:18Some prone rural spots will fall close to, if not a little bit below freezing.
01:22And again, we're likely to see some fog or freezing fog patches developing, particularly across central southern parts of England.
01:29Could cause some problems, particularly if you're heading out on the roads early on on Wednesday morning.
01:34Otherwise, and as we go through the day itself, whilst most places have a dry morning,
01:38we are going to see a spell of wet weather pushing its way in initially across parts of Northern Ireland,
01:43then reaching western parts of England, Wales and Scotland too.
01:47Some heavy outbreaks likely across western parts and some strong winds in association with the rain.
01:52But again, in the southeast, similar to today, likely to stay dry at least during daylight hours, but turning a bit cloudier later on.
02:01Temperatures for many will be up a little bit compared to today.
02:04So more places likely to get into double figures.
02:07Many areas, though, staying in single digits yet again.
02:10As we look further ahead and towards the end of the week, there's more unsettled weather to come.
02:14Further wet weather pushing its way through as we go through Wednesday night,
02:17then a showery, blustery day likely on Thursday before more features make their way in in time for Friday,
02:23bringing some heavy rain for quite a few places and perhaps some strong winds at times too.
02:28Worth noting that temperatures are going to drop down again after a milder period during the middle part of the week.
02:33And so there's an increased risk of seeing some hill snow and also some icy patches too.
02:38I'll have more information on that in our week ahead forecast, which is available on our YouTube channel.
02:43Bye bye.
