23 November - National weather forecast presented by Annie Shuttleworth
Transcript
00:00Hello again. Most of us will notice a real change in the weather over the next 24 hours
00:05or so as that cold air is being introduced from the Arctic. If you've been following
00:10the weather story so far this week, you will have been tracking this cold front that's
00:14now finally making its progress southwards, introducing that colder air to much of the
00:19UK. It's being brought in by quite a strong breeze and that means we've got a wind warning
00:24in force across the Shetland Isles throughout tonight. We could see gusts in excess of 70
00:29mph here and some pretty icy stretches by tomorrow morning. Elsewhere though, any wintry
00:34hazards will be fairly limited. There will be some snow showers starting to fall across
00:38the hills of Scotland, but no snow is expected to low levels. Because of the strong breeze,
00:44we will be frost free for many areas overnight tonight, but it will feel that much chillier.
00:50Tomorrow morning, there'll be some sunshine at first across northern and eastern areas.
00:55In the west though, it'll be that much cloudier and still a chance of some rain, at least
00:59through the morning. But it's into the afternoon that we start to see some lovely autumnal
01:03sunshine starting to come out. So it'll be quite a nice feeling day, particularly away
01:07from the breeze in western areas by Friday afternoon. In the east though, you will notice
01:13the wind arrows are moving quite fast here, so we've got quite a strong breeze that will
01:17be feeling that much chillier. So these are the actual temperatures, but let's take a
01:21closer look at the feels like temperatures for tomorrow afternoon. So along the east
01:26coast, it's feeling closer to zero, if not sub zero in that breeze. You'll certainly
01:30want a couple of extra layers and the weather will be feeling much different to compared
01:35to recent days by tomorrow afternoon. Then through Friday evening, the clouds and breeze
01:40continues to lap the east coast. But across western areas, we see long lived clear spells
01:47developing. So we're going to see quite a harsh frost by Saturday morning, temperatures
01:50falling as low as minus seven, perhaps minus eight. Even some western areas, southwest
01:55areas even where we've not seen a frost yet so far this season could see their first frost
02:00by tomorrow, by Saturday morning. So certainly be a crisp start to the weekend. But then
02:07throughout Saturday, once again, we'll see quite a lot more sunshine coming through.
02:12Temperatures will take a little while to climb and they will. They're unlikely to reach double
02:16digits anywhere. So still a chilly feel, but the winds are lighter so that they won't
02:21be feeling quite as cold by the afternoon. Into the west, though, you'll notice we've
02:27got this front arriving that's going to start to bring some milkier skies to Northern Ireland
02:32through Saturday afternoon. And then by Sunday afternoon, most of us will see a change to
02:37slightly more unsettled weather. But by Sunday morning still, we're still in that colder
02:42weather. So you like to see another frost on Sunday morning before we change into the
02:47more unsettled weather to start the new week. You can find more details on our latest forecast
