25 August - National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin
Transcript
00:00Hello, a mix of sun and heavy showers today, and indeed tomorrow, and the weather remains
00:06fairly mixed through the long weekend as well, a back holiday for many.
00:10We do have high pressure nearby, but it's sitting out here in the Atlantic.
00:14It tries to get a little closer, but certainly for the time being, we've got low pressure
00:18sitting right over us and spiraling bands of showers across the UK.
00:23It's not going to rain everywhere all day.
00:25There'll be some decent spells of sunshine and East Anglia and the southeast mostly staying
00:29dry, but across eastern Scotland in particular, slow-moving showers could cause some problems
00:34with the rain really building up through the day.
00:37The showers across western Scotland will tend to be pretty frequent, but move through on
00:41a fairly brisk wind, so plenty of heavy showers for Wales and southwest England this afternoon
00:46as well.
00:47Elsewhere, the showers are a bit more scattered, and as I said, we will see some sunshine coming
00:50through, but it's not really going to do much for the temperatures generally below average,
00:55mostly only in the high teens.
00:56A little warmer across the east, but even here, that's quite a bit cooler than it has
01:00been for most of the week, a much fresher feel.
01:03We've lost that humidity.
01:04Now, through the evening and overnights, we'll lose most of the showers across England and
01:08Wales, still quite a few around through the evening.
01:11One area where the showers may keep going is southeastern parts of Scotland, so we do
01:15have that warning in place into Saturday morning.
01:18Showers also likely to keep going across northern Scotland, quite a wet night here, also parts
01:23of northwest England seeing the showers feeding in on a fairly brisk wind.
01:27With lighter winds and clearer skies over the Midlands and southern England, could be
01:30some mist and fog patches forming too as temperatures generally dip away into single figures in
01:36rural spots, towns and cities 10 to 12.
01:39So into Saturday, again, it'll be a case of sunshine and showers, mainly central and eastern
01:44parts starting with the sunshine, but quite wet across northern Scotland with a brisk
01:50wind.
01:51Showers will get going, well, pretty much right across the board, nowhere immune from
01:55the downpours during Saturday.
01:56Again, there'll be some sunny spells, so if you dodge the heaviest showers, there will
02:01be some fine weather to be had.
02:03But where the showers do crop up, again, they could be quite slow moving and they could
02:07turn into thunderstorms, dropping a lot of rain in a short space of time.
02:11With a lot of cloud, plenty of showers, it is, again, going to be a fairly cool day.
02:16Temperatures mostly, again, struggling to get out of the teens, perhaps eastern England
02:2021, 22, just about possible when the sun comes out.
02:24There will still be that mixture of sunshine and showers across the country during Saturday
02:28evening.
02:29If you've got any plans staying fairly damp across the far north of Scotland, we'll start
02:33to see a bit of a change as we head into Sunday.
02:37This line of cloud behind me is a weather front which tries to push in.
02:42There's that ridge of high pressure which also tries to move in.
02:45So it's a bit of a scrap going on.
02:46Generally, that weather front wins on Sunday, but this ridge of high pressure does promise
02:51something a bit drier and brighter for many of us as we head into Monday.
02:56For more details on that, make sure you stay up to date throughout the weekend.
02:59The best way to do that is, of course, to follow us across social media.
