07 August - National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin
Transcript
00:00Some warmer weather is on the way, but Tuesday will still be pretty cool for most areas.
00:05A bit of a north-south split with the weather, really, for Tuesday, with a lot of cloud in the south,
00:09something brighter further north.
00:11Before we get there, still a few showers across parts of Scotland during Monday evening.
00:15A few heavy ones across the far north, only slowly easing.
00:19And down to the south-west, cloud and rain and drizzle are trickling in.
00:23That will keep the temperatures up here.
00:25But across northern Britain, with clearer skies, it will turn quite cool.
00:28Temperatures in some sheltered glens of Scotland could be as low as 4 or 5 Celsius to start Tuesday.
00:34We should start with a bit of brightness, though, for northern Ireland, central, southern Scotland, northern England.
00:39Generally, a fine day here, actually, with sunny spells.
00:42There'll be some sunshine across northern Scotland, too, but there will be showers.
00:45A dull, dank, drizzly, murky start across the coasts of south Wales and south-west England.
00:50And that rain and drizzle will trickle towards the Midlands quite quickly.
00:54And then we'll see light rain and drizzle on and off across east Anglia and the south-east come the afternoon,
00:59as things cloud over.
01:00But for, say, much of northern England, north Wales will hang on to some brightness.
01:04Some cloud bubbling up for northern Ireland and Scotland, but mostly set fair here.
01:09Still quite breezy across the far north-east.
01:11If anything, the wind's strengthening a touch across the northern isles.
01:14So a cool feel, in fact, everywhere.
01:16A fairly cool feel. Temperatures mostly below average for the time of year,
01:20despite some spells of sunshine across parts of the north.
01:23And feeling cooler with the thicker cloud and the rain and drizzle.
01:26We may see some heavier bursts of rain over the Midlands, east Anglia and the south-east for a time
01:30during Tuesday evening before that tends to scoot away.
01:33And then signs of something a bit warmer arriving.
01:37Initially, with this cloud coming into the west, that will turn things quite murky again around some coasts.
01:43And we could see some rain and drizzle certainly across northern Ireland during Wednesday.
01:47But for many, I think we'll see some lengthy spells of sunshine on Wednesday.
01:51And we will start to see the temperatures rising, even where it clouds over in the west.
01:55We're likely to have a warmer feel to the day with highs into the 20s.
01:59And with some sunnier spells in the east, 23, 24 Celsius is possible.
02:04And temperatures rising further for Thursday.
02:08Well, we could see temperatures maybe as high as 27, perhaps even 28 degrees Celsius.
02:12We haven't seen that for quite some time.
02:15And that is because high pressure is moving in.
02:18And the weather systems are being steered away up towards Iceland.
02:22So we're getting warmer air wafted up from the south along with that area of high pressure.
02:27Not promising blue skies everywhere.
02:29And I'm certainly not promising it will last all that long.
02:32Because there is a cold front waiting to sweep away all that warmer air by the time we get to Friday and the weekend.
02:38But certainly through Wednesday and Thursday, temperatures will be rising.
02:42More details on that in our full detailed week ahead forecast on our YouTube channels.
02:47And, of course, there's always more right across social media.
