00:00Hello and welcome to the Met Office forecast for the week ahead. The weather you experience
00:05this week will all come down to the position of this weather front, whether you're to the
00:10south or the north of it. To the south it's cloudy but it's mild. To the north it's colder
00:16but it's brighter. And actually that colder and brighter weather will win out by the end
00:20of the week as the front eventually clears south. But it takes its time. It's there across
00:25Northern Ireland, Southern Scotland, Northern England first thing Tuesday, cloudy and damp
00:29in this zone and it lingers through much of the day. Eventually the rest of Northern
00:34Ireland and much of Scotland is in the colder but brighter air that follows the front. Some
00:40sunshine for eastern Scotland but blustery showers particularly for the north and west
00:43of Scotland. Gales in the far north-west and feeling cold with that with the snow level
00:49coming down to about 300 or 400 metres. To the south though, mild. 12, 13, 14 Celsius
00:56particularly if we get some sunshine coming through for the Midlands, East Anglia and
01:00southern counties of England. And we keep the mild air in place on Tuesday night. You
01:05can see the front lingers for some time before eventually starting to push south and as a
01:12result more of the country in that colder air later Wednesday. Turns actually a bit
01:18colder for Scotland first thing Wednesday and that means the snow level coming down,
01:22accumulating snow during the day above 200 metres, perhaps some falling sleet, snow,
01:27hail down to lower levels in these blustery showers and strong wind there making it feel
01:31particularly cold. Meanwhile, by the afternoon after a cloudy but mild start across England
01:37and Wales, the front does clear into the far south and much of Wales, the Midlands, Northern
01:43England brightening up to the north of it but turning a bit colder but it stays mild.
01:4812, 13 Celsius towards the southeast with one or two spots of rain. Most of the damp
01:53weather really during the morning. It does dry up by the afternoon. Into Wednesday and
01:59especially Wednesday night we're going to see this area of low pressure push towards
02:04the far north of Scotland. Some uncertainty about its track but there is the threat of
02:09gales or even severe gales for the far north of Scotland, particularly Orkney and Shetland
02:14associated with this weather front. That will bring some fairly lively showers south with
02:19it across the north of Scotland whilst another weather front, that cold front that is dominating
02:23proceedings through the week, pushes another spell of rain north across the southern half
02:28of the UK by the start of Thursday. But many places see that clear during the day. It just
02:35lingers in the far southeast during the afternoon and as a result the colder but brighter weather
02:40pushes south with temperatures around average in the south colder further north. And further
02:46wintry showers to come across Scotland, Northern Ireland, Northern England particularly over
02:51hills. However, during Thursday night and into Friday high pressure starts to build
02:56in. Now that will help to clear the skies in many places and seeing as that front has
03:01cleared through, a widespread frost on Friday morning. These are the towns and cities but
03:06in rural parts those temperatures will drop several degrees below freezing first thing.
03:11So a chilly start, a widespread frost but a bright start. Plenty of sunshine first thing.
03:16There will be a thickening of the cloud for northern and western Scotland after some showers
03:20first thing. More persistent damp weather arrives into the west of Scotland by the afternoon
03:25but otherwise for many Fridays looking like the pick of the week. Plenty of sunshine particularly
03:31in the south and the east. Temperatures around average 6 to 8 Celsius. And that high pressure
03:37close to the southwest will help to kick the weekend off with plenty of fine weather. Another
03:42widespread frost in the south certainly on Saturday morning with that high pressure nearby.
03:47Meanwhile the winds pick up during Saturday in the far northwest and some very wet weather
03:52arrives into northern and western Scotland and eventually that pushes into Northern Ireland,
03:57rest of Scotland, Northern England on Saturday night and by Sunday it's pushing south across
04:03the UK. So the weather stays very changeable. Temperatures up and down through the next
04:07few days. We'll keep you updated on social media. Bye bye.
