00:00Welcome to your weather for the week ahead, which will have a distinctly autumnal feel.
00:05Nothing unusual about that. It is autumn after all.
00:08But some strong winds, a chilly feel and then later in the week, some wet and windy conditions.
00:13Initially, we're dealing with winds coming down from the north.
00:16Hence why we have such a chilly feel compared to recent weeks.
00:20But this is Monday's chart with low pressure up to the northeast.
00:24If we fast forward to Friday, then the low pressure is coming in from the northwest
00:28and these weather fronts are swinging in Atlantic air.
00:31The winds have changed direction more from the west or the southwest.
00:35And these weather fronts will also be bringing plenty of rain with them.
00:38But let's deal with that in a moment.
00:40Let's rewind the clock and go through the week day by day.
00:43Because, as I say, we start with low pressure up to the northeast
00:47and that northerly flow bringing a real chill and also bringing a mixture of sunshine and showers.
00:53On Tuesday, I think we'll see lots of showers feeding in through the Irish Sea into northwest England.
00:57Could be quite a wet day here. A weather front just grazing the far southwest.
01:01So quite a wet afternoon for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
01:04There'll be plenty of showers coming in on that northerly breeze,
01:07close to the low pressure across northern Scotland.
01:09Elsewhere, showers scattered about, but some decent smiles of sunshine.
01:13But the winds coming in from the north, it ain't going to be warm, 12, 13 degrees.
01:18Below average for most of us by a few degrees and feeling colder with the winds.
01:22Although the winds for most, a little lighter than on Monday.
01:26The wet weather in the southwest will eventually slope away from this little weather system.
01:32But we're still being dominated by low pressure up to the northeast.
01:35It is just gradually heading out into the North Sea.
01:38And that means a subtle shift in wind direction.
01:41Means that different areas will see the showers on Wednesday.
01:44Should, for example, be a much drier day in Greater Manchester and in Liverpool.
01:49Whereas we'll still have a few showers just grazing the west coast of Wales.
01:53But the wettest weather on Wednesday looks like being close to that low,
01:57drifting into eastern parts of England.
01:59Some uncertainty about the details, but it could be quite a wet day for parts of eastern England.
02:04That rain could be on the heavy side, particularly through the afternoon.
02:07And again, a gusty wind bringing in a real chill.
02:1012 or 13, add on that wind, significant wind chill.
02:14Much of western Scotland, Northern Ireland, looking dry and bright on Wednesday
02:18with some decent smiles of sunshine.
02:20But highest temperatures probably on the south coast.
02:22A bit of sunshine here, 17 degrees.
02:24But still, for most, we are below average.
02:27That chilly feel will certainly be felt on Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
02:32That low is still around, but the ice bar is just spacing out.
02:35So the winds will fall lighter, which will allow temperatures to fall further.
02:39So a cold start to Thursday.
02:42But with the low tending to ease away, there won't be as many showers.
02:45Certainly still one or two scattered about.
02:48But I suspect large chunks of the country, particularly in the west, will be dry and bright on Wednesday
02:53with most of the showers still focused across eastern parts of England.
02:57And again, still a bit of a breeze off the North Sea, bringing a chilly feel.
03:01But temperatures just for most places lifting up a little bit by the time we get to Thursday,
03:06closer to average for the time of year.
03:09And then we'll see more of a dramatic shift as we head through Thursday night and into Friday.
03:13Again, the ice bar is opening up initially.
03:15So light winds will allow a chilly start, maybe some mist and fog.
03:18And then here comes that weather system we saw at the start.
03:21Some uncertainty at this stage.
03:23You should expect four or five days ahead for the details of when the wet and windy weather will hit
03:28and just how lively it will be as well.
03:30But it looks as if we'll see a band of rain swinging across the country.
03:34Parts of eastern England may well stay dry until after dusk.
03:37And I say timings of this rain band still open to some doubt.
03:41So if you do have plans for Friday, do keep up to date with the forecast.
03:44But it could turn quite blustery as winds coming in from the west or southwest
03:49will eventually bring slightly warmer air.
03:51But it's still going to feel pretty grim, I suspect, if that rain comes in with strong winds.
03:55Temperatures still only 13 or 14 Celsius for most.
03:59But eventually turning a little milder as we head perhaps into the weekend
04:02when that weather system should swing away.
04:05And then we're left with a northwesterly breeze, but not as cold as the winds to start the week.
04:11And again, looks like a mixture of sunshine and showers as we head into Saturday.
04:15Quite a bit of uncertainty beyond that, however.
04:17So as I said, make sure you stay up to date with the forecast as we head towards the weekend.
04:21Best way to do that, follow us on social media.
