00:00Gary had seen the concept of the mythological creature being used in books and movies, but
00:20he had never really been the type to pay too close attention to these things.
00:25Thinking back to the few films he had watched with such being, a certain thought came to
00:29his mind.
00:30Am I now an altered?
00:33It sounded a bit strange, because from what Gary knew becoming an altered should be a
00:37long and difficult process.
00:40However, perhaps the thing inside the suitcase might have been a new product from some company
00:45that had discovered a way to speed up the process.
00:48Looking around him, the suitcase itself was long gone, probably left behind at the construction
00:54site.
00:55Maybe it's just called a werewolf, because it has made me into an altered based on a
00:59wolf type beast.
01:01Who knows maybe all altered have such a system, and have just kept it a secret or maybe it's
01:06something new that was in the suitcase.
01:09Either way, if I am an altered, then my body should have changed.
01:13Gary knew for a fact that his vision had suddenly improved, so why not other things.
01:19When a human became an altered one of the big changes he would undergo would be getting
01:23superhuman strength.
01:25To test his theory, he walked up to one of the trees, looked at it for a few seconds
01:30and then started to shake his whole arm.
01:33Gary was confident, all the signs were telling him he had become an altered.
01:37With no doubt in his mind, he threw out his fist and hit the tree with great force.
01:43For a few seconds, there was nothing and then an almighty scream traveled throughout the
01:47forest.
01:48All!
01:50The tree was completely fine, but the same could not be said about Gary's knuckles.
01:55Looking at them he could see they were grazed and slightly bleeding.
01:59The skin was starting to peel off.
02:02It was apparent he hadn't held back at all when throwing the punch.

02:13I'm not sure if I should complain about this being a lot or be happy about it not doing

02:24Well, I suppose hitting it 49 more times at full strength would eventually break my fists
02:30and lead to severe blood loss.
02:32Maybe, it was clear that the system itself was quite complicated, your heart rate has
02:37increased, 50 BPM, it seemed kind of useless to Gary that the system showed off his heart
02:42rate.
02:43He didn't see any need in it as it didn't seem to affect anything else.
02:48After the pain had subsided Gary wanted to run a few more tests.
02:52He planned to check if he was now faster or could transform parts of his body.
02:57Unfortunately, being in the middle of a forest, he lacked any equipment to measure his speed
03:02and just running felt the same as always.
03:05Gary also had no idea how to change parts of his body.
03:10He tried concentrating on his arm, wishing for it to turn into something else, but nothing
03:14happened.
03:16It didn't make any difference when he tried to do the same with his legs, nose, ears,
03:21eyes or any other parts.
03:23Eventually, he sighed and gave up for the time being.
03:27He was interested in the quests, but it was already starting to get late, so he couldn't
03:31go to the gym at this time to see if there would be any improvements.
03:35The food quest was theoretically the easiest to complete, but given his family situation,
03:41it would be a tough one.
03:43It was expensive and eating 2 kilograms a day would be near impossible.
03:47There was half the payment up front, but if he could he would have still liked to help
03:51his mother with that.
03:53Finally, there was the other quest that would arrive in 14 days.
03:58He had an idea of what would happen on this day, but he couldn't believe it.
04:02So far, there have been no signs of his body drastically being altered other than what
04:06the system was telling him.
04:09At least he had 14 days to figure out what to do about it.
04:13It was dark out and if he stayed out any later his mother would probably be worrying about
04:17him, so he decided to exit the woods.
04:21It didn't take long as he could clearly see a pathway with his improved vision and
04:24when he was out of the woods he knew exactly where he would be.
04:28From there he started to jog.
04:31He had become quite the good runner, working as a transporter and being cheap with his
04:35money.
04:36The journey from where he was would take around 20 minutes.
04:40Finally, he had arrived back home and could hear the sound of his sister singing from
04:44outside the door.
04:46When he went to open it he noticed something.
04:49His breath.
04:50I just ran for 20 minutes and I'm not even tired.
04:54Maybe I am an altered after all.
04:57This thought excited Gary more than anything.
05:00Checking his heart rate it had also lowered down to 45 BPM.
05:05Entering inside, he immediately started to take off his clothes.
05:09They had been torn ragged and some of them had signs of blood on them.
05:14He headed into their room and his sister was a little surprised that her brother had just
05:18started to strip in front of her.
05:20She immediately closed her eyes and turned around.

05:25Gary, hurry up and put some clothes on.
05:29Amy shouted.
05:31He quickly stuffed his clothes into a school sports bag and placed that in the bottom corner,
05:35before throwing the rest of his belongings on his bed and finally changing into something
05:39new.
05:40Oh, you're back, Gary.
05:43The food is ready for you whenever you need it, just warm it up in the microwave.
05:48His mother shouted.
05:50Thanks, but I'm not hungry, Gary replied.
05:54Feel free to have seconds if you want.
05:57That's strange, you usually come back starving.

06:02She asked with some motherly worry.
06:04Er, yeah.
06:07Gary shouted back.
06:09It certainly was strange, every time when he came back from his work Gary would be hungry,
06:14and he hadn't eaten before leaving.
06:16The last meal he had was from lunch, but he didn't feel hungry at all.
06:21Going through multiple drawers, Gary was looking for something.
06:25Without noticing it, he eventually searched through Amy's side of the room.

06:32A diary?
06:33He murmured to himself, picking it up.
06:36Hey, stay away from my things.
06:39She snatched the diary and immediately went over to his side of the room.
06:44Just tell me what you're looking for.
06:46Bandages, plasters or something for my Han Dash, when looking at his hand he noticed
06:51that it had completely healed.
06:53When did that happen?
06:55100-100 HP, 99-100 energy, eat more meat to restore your energy.

08:46After a person became unaltered it was impossible to reverse the process.
08:50If he returned to the gang and tried to explain to them what had happened, he would be killed
08:54for sure.
08:56That or they would enslave him and make him work as an altered, although he first would
09:00have to prove to be one, which ironically he was unable to.
09:04Alternatively, the real item might still be in the suitcase, but if so it must have long
09:09since been taken by the other group after his stabbing.
09:12However, it would mean that his current situation would be unrelated, which seemed more than
09:17unlikely.
09:19Either way, at the end of the day he had failed his job, and that meant that his end wouldn't
09:23be a pretty one.
09:25It was the first time this had ever happened to Gary, yet he had seen what had happened
09:29to others in the gang who had failed the underdogs.
09:33Going back there would just be suicide.
09:36It's a good thing I gave them a fake address.

10:32Each had large pieces of flesh torn off and huge scratches across their faces and bodies.

10:41The first thing they did was call the police, who had promptly closed off the site as a

10:47What do you think, boss, a young policeman asked his superior, whose most prominent features
10:52were his brown overcoat and his scruffy beard.
10:56Anton Milstone was this small town's chief of police.
11:00They were used to little cuffs happening here or there, but nothing on this sort of scale.
11:05Kneeling down he started to look at the blood.
11:08Did you take a DNA sample of all the blood you could find?
11:12Anton questioned.
11:13Yup, they're already testing it and should come up with a few things soon.
11:19Hopefully we already have them on file.
11:22If my guess is right, it looks like we have a little gang war going on.
11:27Someone transporting certain goods, a trade gone wrong, and an empty briefcase.
11:32In that case, chances are good we already have their prints in the system.
11:37And yet there was one thing Anton had no answer for yet.
11:41Why had the transporter left behind the briefcase?
11:44You mean, these three corpses were the attackers, boss?
11:49Transporters usually travel alone, since it's easier to blend in that way.
11:54From what we know the gangs mostly use teenagers and young adults, none of whom would dress
11:58as flashy as the victims.
12:01Still, this makes it even more bizarre that a transporter could kill three armed thugs.
12:07Unless of course, the one transporting goods was something they didn't expect.

12:15Turning around, the two of them saw a middle-aged woman and man walk underneath the yellow tape.
12:21Neither one was dressed like police.
12:24They were in uniform, although it looked a little bit fancy for one to be wearing it
12:28out in the open.
12:30The uniforms were gray in color, with gold around the edges where the trim would be.
12:35It was tight-fitting while still allowing for free movement, expandable and most importantly
12:40breathable.
12:41What stood out most though, was the crest on their left chests.
12:46A silver rose with a sword going down the middle, clearly showing who they were and
12:50where they had come from.
12:51Damn it, what are you guys doing here?
12:55It's too early to say for sure that this is an altered case.
12:59Anton stood up to complain.
13:01The handsome middle-aged man with the strange uniform, whose name tag read Frank Hugh, had
13:07short black hair and a serious look to him.
13:10When Anton looked at him, he felt a slight shiver go down his spine because he felt nothing.
13:16There were no emotions emanating from this man.
13:20Despite the gruesome state of the victims he didn't even blink an eye.
13:24At least with his female partner, Sadie Nimper, she displayed an arrogant air of importance.
13:30Unfortunately, she seemed to not be shy about it either.
13:34Look, Mr. Milstone, even a toddler could tell you at first glance that this crime scene
13:39could only have been accomplished by an altered, she berated the local chief of police.
13:45The two of us will take over this investigation from now on.

13:53Without waiting for a reply, Sadie was off to talk to the others about the evidence that
13:57had been found so far.

14:03The young policeman whispered to not attract the attention of the scary looking female.
14:08Yes and unfortunately that means they're in charge, Anton replied, clenching his fist
14:13and walking away.
14:15He had never liked their attitude and how they behaved as if they were above the police
14:19force.
14:21Anton wasn't upset because they outranked him.
14:24No, it was because they genuinely behaved as if they were superior beings.

14:33I'm sure you know this already, but both of them are altered.
14:37With the introduction of altered, it was unfortunately a sad reality that certain people would try
14:42to use these special abilities and powers for no good.
14:46As the police's simple guns wouldn't do much when faced with an altered, the government
14:50decided to combat fire with fire.
14:53The Altered Investigation Force was established, more commonly known as White Rose.
14:59The next day, the sound of the alarm woke Gary up.
15:03Instinctively he hit the big snooze button above it, to turn it off.
15:08He felt horrible, and his head was pounding with a strange pain.
15:12Seems like I feel asleep after all, Gary thought.
15:16He had hardly gotten a wink of sleep.
15:19Less because of all that had happened to him ever since yesterday's cursed transporter
15:22job and more because he had been too scared imagining what Daimon would do to him, or
15:27to his family.
15:29I have to make sure, they never find out about this place, Gary reminded himself, when his
15:34thoughts were suddenly interrupted by a strange scent entering his nose.
15:39Like a dog, he started to unconsciously sniff about in the air and followed the origin of
15:43the scent.
15:45That's when he noticed his bully rumbling.
15:48He was extremely hungry after last night.
15:51Suddenly he arrived in front of the fridge.
15:54Opening it, he found a fresh uncooked steak sitting in a small pile of blood.
16:00Before he knew it, his hand had already reached out and grabbed the piece of meat.
16:05He lifted the whole thing up, about to place it in his mouth.
16:09You!
16:10Amy shouted.
16:12What are you doing?
16:13That's still raw.
16:15Hearing the voice of his younger sister, Gary snapped out of it, realizing he had been about
16:20to eat a raw piece of uncooked meat.
16:22Caught in the act, he quickly placed it back in the fridge.
16:26Now we'll have to eat steak tonight with all your germs over it.
16:30Did you even wash our hands before?
16:33Look, they're covered in blood, Amy continued to complain.
16:37Mom was saving that to treat us tonight.
16:40You should know how rare it is that we get to eat something so nice.
16:45To make matters worse, his mother entered the room, drawn in by the commotion.
16:50What are you two arguing about so early in the morning?
16:53She asked with bags under her eyes.
16:56This doofus just tried to eat raw steak.
16:59Amy shouted pointing at him.
17:02Gary's hands were shaking.
17:04Everything was kind of getting to him and now he couldn't even control his body.
17:08I'm sorry, Gary apologized as he ran past the two of them and headed to the bathroom.
17:14I'll buy a new one, I promise.
17:17When he entered the bathroom, he looked at himself in the mirror, half expecting to see
17:21someone else, but from the looks of it, he was still the same.
17:25The only thing wrong with him was his fast beating heart and the system was there to
17:30tell him.
17:31Then he noticed something else, his bloody hands that had touched the steak were in his
17:35mouth.
17:37He pulled them out quickly, but it was already too late.
17:41When he had checked the system he had licked them clean, and he could still taste it.
17:45Even worse, he enjoyed this aftertaste.
17:49After spending some time inside to regain his composure, Gary finally left the bathroom
17:54and went to join the others for breakfast.
17:56The TV was on while they ate.
17:59Amy refused to talk to him and was just giving him the cold shoulder.
18:03Similarly, his mother had also stayed quiet.
18:07Gary was unsure whether it was because she was mad at him or just too sleepy.
18:12In front of him was a sliced ham sandwich.
18:15It didn't take long for him to finish it, and afterward he decided to check the status
18:20of one of his quests.
18:2228 slash 2,000 g of meat consumed, the single slice of ham only weighed 28 grams.

19:25In other Altered-related news, three mutilated corpses have been found at a construction
19:29site in the small town of Slough.
19:32The extent of their wounds suggests that an Altered had been involved, in what the
19:36police currently assumes to be a gang trade gone wrong.
19:40According to the found evidence, all three deceased have successfully been identified
19:44as members of a certain gang.
19:46Although the blood of a fourth person has been found at the crime scene, the police
19:50have been unable to find the corresponding person, currently believed to be the killer
19:55Altered.
19:56The police have offered a reward for any hints leading to.
20:00Gary had stopped listening to all the words after the news.
20:03Great, now the police are after me as well.

20:55He stopped in the middle of the pathway, and gulped.
20:59At least I hope it was the underdogs, it couldn't be, could it?

21:06Shaking the horrible thought from his head, he decided that he'd better hurry to school.
21:11It was about the only thing that was normal at the moment for him.

21:16A loud piercing shriek was heard.
21:19Looking around, Gary discovered the female shriek to have originated from an alleyway
21:23close by.
21:25The poor girl was surrounded by four guys who had brought her there, with one of them
21:29currently pinning her up against the wall.
21:32His neighborhood wasn't exactly the best, but for something like this to happen in broad
21:36light so early in the morning.
21:38Really, is it just that kind of day?
21:42Gary's initial reaction was to just walk away.
21:45He didn't want to get involved, especially since there was nothing he could realistically
21:49do against four adult men.
21:52After all, he was no hero, but merely a teenager.
21:56Besides, if they were about to commit such an atrocity who was to say that they were
22:00unarmed?
22:02Maybe they would do more than just beat him up if he tried to interfere.
22:06The group of males continued to push her down the alleyway, out of sight from the main road,
22:11around the back of one of the apartments.
22:14At this point, when the girl turned the corner, Gary's sharp eyes spotted something on her
22:19uniform.
22:20It was his school's crest.
22:23She went to the same school as him.
22:25Damn it, my own arse is already on the line.
22:29Should I try and bluff, telling them I'm part of the underdogs?
22:33No, that won't work, given my age it's clear that I'm merely a transporter.
22:39And using their gang name might not be the best idea.
22:42Shit, why did it have to be a girl?
22:45In all honesty, if it had been a guy then Gary wouldn't have struggled this much.
22:50People were struggling all over the world, and had bad things done to them.
22:55He knew that since he himself had even joined a gang in hopes of a better future.
22:59However, when he saw a girl being abducted, especially in his own neighborhood, not too
23:05far from where he lived, he couldn't help but imagine the men doing the same thing to
23:09his sister.
23:11Who knew whether she had a brother, who would blame himself for the rest of his life that
23:14he hadn't been there.
23:16Even if she was an only child, what about her parents?
23:20Gary considered creating a ruckus.
23:23Looking around there weren't many others that would help, and if he explained the situation
23:27he knew no one would for fear that the group of men belonged to one of the gangs.
23:32It was easier to just hide their head in the sand, pretending not to have noticed the situation,
23:37telling themselves there's nothing they could do.
23:40Alternatively he could try to call the police, but one of the things he had learned in the
23:44underdogs was that the police reacted slowly to such cases, not only because they were
23:49understaffed, but also because those higher up had been paid off, to make sure the response
23:54time was delayed.
23:56By the time they would actually get here, whatever those guys were planning would have
24:00already happened by now.
24:02Looks like I got to figure this one out myself, Gary thought.
24:07As soon as he had made the decision to act, a notification screen appeared in front of
24:11him.
24:12New quest received, save the girl.
24:15You have assessed that there are no other options and you're the only one she can rely
24:19on, are you really going to turn your back on her now?

24:50He knew he didn't have the time to think about what to do next.
24:54If there was one thing he was known for, it was his tendency to just act.
24:59Right now was no different, his legs had started moving and he was already heading down the
25:03alleyway.
25:05When he took the turn, he could see one of the guys with his hands over the girl's mouth.
25:10The group of men turned their heads and they didn't look like the friendliest bunch, that
25:14was for sure.
25:16Most of them were wearing similar clothing.
25:19Baggy trousers with a black top of some kind.
25:22A color gang?
25:24Damn it, I should have noticed sooner.
25:27No wonder they were able to act so brazenly in broad daylight.
25:32Color gangs usually were university students or high school students, some of them worked
25:36under one of the large main gangs, but to Gary's knowledge, there shouldn't be any
25:40color gang in the underdogs that wore the color black, which was a relief.
25:45Kid, we're feeling nice, so why don't you just get out of here, and head back to school.
25:51One of the men at the back waved him off after recognizing him as just a stupid brat.
25:57Gary looked at the school uniform confirming he and the girl did indeed go to the same
26:01school.
26:02He was most likely looking for an excuse to avoid the current situation, but then he saw
26:07the fear in the girl's eyes again.
26:10She even had a similar hairstyle to his sister, only that her hair was black.
26:15Seeing this was just building up the rage inside of him.
26:19Four of them, I'm going to get hit a few times, but it can't hurt more than getting stabbed,
26:24right?
26:25Gary tried to convince himself.
26:28Getting himself to the situation, he went into a boxing stance as Kirk had shown him.
26:33They men started to break out in laughter.
26:36Oh, looks like we have a knight in shining armor.
26:39All right, let's see what you got, boy, maybe we'll give you a little invitation, one of
26:44the men said walking forward.
26:47Gary waited, focusing on the man's toes.
26:50He thought back to when he had landed a punch on the gangster that night, and to everything
26:54Kirk had taught him.
26:57Not yet, he's still not close enough.
26:59Then, when the man was finally in range, Gary threw out a perfect jab that even Kirk would
27:05likely praise him for.
27:07However, the punch ended up hitting nothing but air.
27:11The man had moved to the side and grabbed his fist.
27:15Do you have any idea how obvious that punch was?
27:18Seriously, if we allowed ourselves to be hit by amateurs like you, we wouldn't be doing
27:23what we're doing in the first place.
27:26The man berated him as he pulled Gary forward by the wrist.
27:30He punched him right in the head, flinging his body backward, yet the man didn't let
27:34go, and pulled him forward again, this time kneeing him in the stomach.
27:39The wind was knocked out of Gary, who was finding it hard to breathe.
27:43I was wrong.
27:45This pain feels a lot worse than getting stabbed.
27:49While the men were distracted watching the beating, the girl saw this as her opportunity
27:53to escape.
27:55She pulled down the distracted man's hand that had been covering her mouth, and bit
27:59down as hard as she could.
28:02When he let go of her, she followed it up with a kick towards the crown jewels before
28:06running out of the alleyway from the other end.
28:09Now look at what you have done, one of the men shouted, you let her get away, now it's
28:13going to be ten times harder to catch her again.
28:16Kid, how are you going to pay us back for this?
28:20Gary was on his knees still hurting from the knee to the stomach, when a notification screen
28:25appeared in front of him.
28:27Quest completed, 40 EXP received, she really got away, huh?
28:32But what's the point in EXP, if I'm not going to live to see another day?
28:37The man had recovered from being hit in his sensitive area and was walking towards Gary
28:42heavy footed.
28:43The others went up against the wall not getting in his way, as he suddenly threw out a kick
28:48hitting him right in the head sending him to the floor.
28:51Hey, don't you think you're going too far?
28:54You could kill him, one of his companions from the side cautioned, but another one stopped
28:59him.
29:00Don't try stopping Raf now, or he will just take it out on you instead.
29:05Answer me.
29:07Raf shouted at Gary.
29:08Do people like this really deserve to live?
29:11I'm already beaten.

29:47He shouted, but this time, his leg was stopped, and looking down, he could see Gary holding

29:53The girl was running back as fast as she could and behind her two policemen were following.
29:59As soon as she was set free, she had gone around looking for help, and had eventually
30:03found some that were in the area.
30:06It's down here, we have to her dash, she paused, as she looked down the alleyways and could
30:11see four men on the floor.

30:30When Gary slid the door open to enter his classroom, he was surprised to see that not
30:35everyone was there yet.
30:37His eyes peeked in the direction of the school clock and could still see there was a good
30:41fifteen minutes before class started.
30:43What, how?
30:46I was walking so slow, and got caught up in that, incident.
30:50Gary thought to himself.
30:53His hands were still slightly shaking, he still didn't understand what he had done or
30:57what had happened just moments ago, right after he dealt with the little, problem, he
31:01had.
31:03His body had started to sprint towards the school, getting away from it all.
31:08Which made him make up for any time that was lost on the way.

31:16Going to his seat, he placed his bag down, and his usual friend Tom was there to greet

31:37In truth, Gary just wished things could go back to normal.

31:46However, now with his whole body going through these weird changes, it was hard to keep everything

32:03Tom had a little smirk on his face when this question was asked.

32:32It was strange that Gary had a sudden interest in these things, but at the same time, Gary
32:37would always be obsessed with the next thing he was watching or reading.
32:42At one point he was reading a comic about tennis players and tried to become a professional
32:46tennis player.
32:48The next time he saw him playing chess after watching a TV series, and before summer he
32:53had been fanboying stories about gangs.
32:56As such, Tom didn't think much of it, besides it just being Gary's latest obsession, so
33:01he decided to humor him.
33:03Well, it's hard to say.
33:06With these types of things there are so many different types of lore out there depending
33:09where you get your information from or what you're reading.

33:46Gary contemplated whether or not he should tell Tom.
33:49He was still unsure if he was an altered.
33:53It was easy to explain his symptoms by just telling him he was one, the problem was, then
33:57Gary would have to tell Tom everything.
34:00How he had come across the strange suitcase, informing him that he had joined a gang, one
34:05that was hunting him currently.
34:07He couldn't do that to Tom.

34:12There was also the high chance that telling him anything, would involve him in all of

34:18This was his problem and he was going to solve it.
34:21The door slid open once again, and seen that it was the teacher.
34:25The kids got into their seats and stopped their chatter.
34:29Their teacher was a skinny male who wore classes called Mr. Gray.
34:34Despite having a reputation for being very strict, everyone still respected him greatly.
34:40He just knew the right way to deal with kids.
34:43When he entered the room, a student that none of them had seen before followed behind him.
34:48Her long gray ash hair flowed walking behind the teacher, the color stood out nearly as
34:53much as Gary's.
34:55When she stood straight her fringe went just down to her eyebrows.
34:59It made her big eyes and small symmetrical face stand out.
35:03The moment Gary saw this girl.
35:06Something strange started to happen, his heart started to beat, but not just a little.
35:11It was to the point where he could feel it pounding in his chest as if it wanted to escape.
35:16He could hear it clearly through his ears bonning and banging, overpowering the sound
35:20of everything else around him.
35:23BPM is rising, BPM 140, BPM 145, while staring at the girl he had heard a slight creak coming
35:30from below.
35:32Looking down he could see that his tight grip around the desk had caused it to break a little,
35:37what was worse, his thumbnail had grown and had pierced the top layer of the wood.

35:45That strange feeling from before, but this didn't happen.
35:49Gary started to panic, and it was only raising his heartbeat even higher.

37:21No matter who she is, I accept that everyone will treat her just like every other student

37:26Exian was given a seat by the window, away from everyone else, and it was quite noticeable
37:32that she had gained a lot of attention not just because of her relation to the mayor,
37:36but because she was considered a beauty by the boys as well.
37:40Throughout class, for some reason, Gary couldn't help but stare in the direction of Exian,
37:45and every time he would do so, his heartbeat would raise and he would have to look away.
37:50The one thing it was helping him with, was controlling his heartbeat.
37:55It helped him find the best method to get in a meditative state to calm it down.

38:11He had been watching his actions for a while now and noticed he kept staring at a certain

38:24I know, as a punishment, once school ends, why don't you take Miss Clove and show her
38:29around before heading to your club?

38:36When the class had ended, it was the end of school lessons for the day, but there was
38:40still 30 minutes until they had to go to their compulsory club lessons after school.

39:30He was the person, who was a fellow student, and also the person who had introduced him
39:35to the underdog gang in the first place.
39:38Seeing his friend storm out of the room, Tom couldn't help but think Gary was acting weird.
39:44When turning to look at his desk, that's when he noticed something.
39:48From both ends of the desk, the wood had been destroyed.
39:52It looked like it was done with someone's bare hand using their grip alone.
39:56But that wasn't possible, for a human at least.

40:11or at least an altered-like being, the underdogs should be desperately looking for him by now.

40:21him by the school entrance, he could only assume Kai hadn't informed them yet, for
40:26whatever reason.
40:28It was the end of the day, so Gary knew where Kai would be.
40:32Everyone at their school was required to attend some extracurricular activity clubs.
40:37Since it was impossible to circumvent this mandatory requirement, Kai had somehow talked
40:42the teachers into letting him create an astrology club.
40:46Unsurprisingly, he was the club's only member, but since he actually stayed at school for
40:51that period of time, the teachers left him be.
40:55Opening the doors that led to the roof, Gary could see Kai standing up against the surrounding
40:59outer fence, looking down at the school field.
41:03His bleach blonde hair blew in the wind along with the dangly earring on his left ear.
41:08It was as if Kai was posing for a K-pop photo shoot.
41:12It didn't hurt that he totally had the looks to go with it as well.
41:16Gary didn't swing that way, but he could easily imagine how a girl would swoon over Kai after
41:21seeing the picturesque scene in front of him.
41:24Kai, Gary called out as he carefully strolled over to him, making sure to pay attention
41:29to his surroundings.
41:31He got ready to sprint away in case this turned out to be some sort of elaborate trap.

41:38Watching Gary act so paranoid, Kai tried to stifle his laughter, but eventually burst
41:44out to Gary's surprise.

41:49The older student informed him as he wiped away a tear from all that laughter.

41:58Looks like they already did try and contact him.

42:28His face didn't change, making it hard for Gary to judge whether this was a trick question

42:37Gary protested vehemently.
42:40He would have loved to explain what had really happened, alas it was impossible.
42:45The situation was just too crazy to be regarded as anything but some bad excuse from a teenager.
42:51What's worse, if someone were to actually believe him, Gary had the feeling that the
42:56consequence for him might be far worse.

43:24He had noticed that more and more letters had come through the door, and he was beginning
43:28to suspect that his mom was hiding a great pain behind the smile she would give him every
43:32day.
43:34Desperate to help out, Gary needed to find a way to make money, but being only 16 years
43:38old prevented him from doing any official work.
43:42The only thing he could do was a paper route, although that paid peanuts, and you were competing
43:47with around a hundred 12-year-old boys that wanted to do the same thing.
43:51While thinking hard about the best thing to do, he walked past a particular student in
43:55the hallway.
43:57Kai Hamper.
43:59As he swung his arms, Gary saw his designer black and gold watch shining brightly.
44:05His limited edition trainers cost more than the wardrobe of Gary's entire family put together.
44:10Finally, sitting there at eye level, he wore a unique thick gold chain that he was sure
44:15was made out of 24-karat gold.
44:18Kai was a student that just screamed wealth.
44:22It was strange, as being in a tier-3 city meant there weren't many wealthy people.
44:27Still, it wasn't completely impossible.
44:31There were a couple of reasons for wealthy people to live in a lower-tier city.
44:35The most common one would be having a company based in that city or they had decided that
44:39trading some guaranteed safety for the chance to live like a king instead of a commoner
44:43would be worth it.
44:45After all, houses and apartments prices rose to ridiculous levels as you went up the city's
44:51tiers.
44:52A mansion in a tier-3 city could only get you a small apartment in tier-1.
44:57Whatever the case, ultimately a kid who was barely older than Gary had access to a lot
45:02of money.
45:04Plucking up the courage and concerned about his family's situation, Gary went to pay him
45:08a visit one day.
45:10It was lunch break, and Gary was met with surprise as he saw Kai sitting at the very
45:15back on his own staring out the window, even though he had all that money.
45:19He wasn't eating anything, nor was anyone paying him any attention or bother.
45:24Pulling a chair up from one of the empty seats, Gary sat next to him at his table.
45:29Do you mind?
45:31Gary asked.
45:33What Gary didn't realize at the time was that Kai was a person that was avoided in the school.
45:39He never really paid any attention to those things, but Kai often got into fights, and
45:44there were rumors about where he had gotten his money from.
45:47But even if Gary had known about these rumors, it still wouldn't have stopped him.
