00:00In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. The Lord be with you.
00:22Good day today brothers and sisters as we celebrate the solemnity of Saint Mary of the
00:26Cross MacKillop, our first Australian saint. We as Australians are very happy and very proud
00:33of our sister, of everything that God has accomplished through her, and through her
00:38intercession I invite you today to pray during this Mass for the gift of many more priestly
00:45and religious vocations, especially here in our Darwin diocese. Of course, we do not forget
00:51to offer in this Mass also your own prayers and petitions. Dear brothers and sisters,
00:56let us acknowledge our sins and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.
01:05You were sent to heal the contrite of heart, Lord have mercy.
01:10You came to call sinners, Christ have mercy. You are seated at the right hand of the Father
01:17to intercede for us, Lord have mercy. May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins,
01:25and bring us to everlasting life. Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of
01:32goodwill. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your
01:39great glory. Lord God, Heavenly King, O God Almighty Father, Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son,
01:48Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
01:55You take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer. You are seated at the right hand of the
02:00Father, have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are
02:06the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father, Amen. Let us pray.
02:18O God, source of all goodness, who have shown us in Saint Mary, a woman of faith, living by the
02:24power of the cross. Teach us, we pray by her example, to live the gospel in changing times,
02:31and to respect and defend the human dignity of all in our land. Through our Lord Jesus Christ,
02:39your Son, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God forever and ever, Amen.
02:49A reading from the first book of Kings. And then the word of the Lord came to Elijah,
02:55Up and go to Zarephath, a Sidonian town, and stay there. I have ordered a widow there to give you
03:03food. So he went off to Sidon. And when he reached the city gate, there was a widow gathering sticks.
03:11Addressing her, he said, Please bring a little water in a vessel for me to drink.
03:18She was setting off to bring it, when he called after her, Please, he said,
03:22Bring me a scrap of bread in your hand. As the Lord your God lives, she replied,
03:28I have no baked bread, but only a handful of meal in a jar and a little oil in a jug.
03:35I am just gathering a stick or two to go and prepare this for myself and my son to eat,
03:41and then we shall die. But Elijah said to her, Do not be afraid, go and do as you have said,
03:49but first make a little scone of it for me and bring it to me, and then make some for
03:54yourself and for your son. For thus the Lord speaks, the God of Israel. Jar of meal shall
04:02not be spent, jug of oil shall not be emptied, before the day when the Lord sends rain on the
04:10face of the earth. The woman went and did as Elijah told her, and they ate the food.
04:17She himself and her son. The jar of meal was not spent, nor the jug of oil emptied,
04:24just as the Lord had foretold through Elijah. The word of the Lord.
04:33My soul clings to you, your right hand holds me fast. My soul clings to you, your right hand
04:39holds me fast. O God, you are my God, for you I long, for you my soul is thirsting,
04:45my body pines for you like a dry, weary land without water. My soul clings to you,
04:52your right hand holds me fast. So I gaze on you in the sanctuary to see your strength
04:57and your glory. For your love is better than life, my lips will speak your praise.
05:03My soul clings to you, your right hand holds me fast. So I will bless you all my life,
05:09in your name I will lift up my hands. My soul shall be filled as with a banquet,
05:14my mouth shall praise you with joy. My soul clings to you, your right hand holds me fast.
05:22On my bed I remember you, on you I muse through the night, for you have been my help,
05:27in the shadow of your wings I rejoice. My soul clings to you, your right hand holds me fast.
05:36A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the Colossians.
05:39You are God's chosen race, his saints. He loves you, and you should be clothed in sincere compassion,
05:48in kindness and humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with one another, forgive each other as soon
05:56as a quarrel begins. The Lord has forgiven you, now you must do the same. Over all these clothes
06:05to keep them together and complete them, put on love. And may the peace of Christ reign in your
06:13hearts, because it is for this that you were called together, as parts of one body. Always be thankful.
06:22Let the message of Christ in all its richness find a home with you.
06:27Teach each other and advise each other in all wisdom. With gratitude in your hearts, sing psalms
06:34and hymns and inspired songs to God. And never say or do anything except in the name of the Lord Jesus,
06:42giving thanks to God the Father through him. The word of the Lord.
06:50Alleluia, alleluia. Many women were there by the cross, watching from a distance,
06:56the same women who had followed Jesus and looked after him. Alleluia.
07:04The Lord be with you. A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew.
07:13Jesus said to his disciples, that is why I am telling you not to worry about your life
07:20and what you are to eat. They're about your body and how you are to clothe it.
07:25Surely life means more than food and the body more than clothing.
07:30Look at the birds in the sky. They do not sow or reap or gather into barns, yet your Heavenly Father feeds them.
07:38Are you not worth much more than they are? Can any of you for all his worrying add one single
07:46cubit to his span of life? And why worry about clothing? Think of the flowers growing in the
07:52fields. They never have to work or spin, yet I assure you that not even Solomon in all his regalia
08:01was robed like one of these. Now, if that is how God clothes the grass in the field which is here
08:07today and thrown into the furnace tomorrow, will he not much more look after you, you men of little
08:14faith? So do not worry. Do not say, what are we to eat? What are we to drink? How are we to be clothed?
08:22It is the pagans who set their hearts on all these things. Your Heavenly Father knows you need them
08:29all. Set your hearts on his kingdom first and on his righteousness and all these other things will
08:37be given you as well. So do not worry about tomorrow. Tomorrow will take care of itself.
08:45Each day has enough trouble of its own. The Gospel of the Lord.
08:56Because today is a solemnity, dear friends, the Church invites us to renew and to profess
09:01the faith which we have received from our baptism. I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
09:07Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the
09:12Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died,
09:18and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again from the dead.
09:24He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty.
09:30From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit,
09:35the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
09:40the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.
10:40Amen.
10:52Pray, brothers and sisters, that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God, the Almighty Father.
11:04As you gather us, O God, at your holy altar on this feast of Saint Mary of the Cross,
11:09grant, we pray, through her intercession, that what we offer with praise and petition
11:14may strengthen us all in charity and faith, through Christ our Lord.
11:21The Lord be with you and with your spirit. Lift up your hearts, lift them up to the Lord. Let us
11:26give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right and just. It is truly right and just, our duty and
11:32our salvation, always and everywhere, to give you thanks, Lord, Holy Father, Almighty and Eternal
11:38God. For in the saints who consecrated themselves to Christ for the sake of the kingdom of heaven,
11:45it is right to celebrate the wonders of your providence, by which you call human nature back
11:50to its original holiness, and bring into experience on this earth the gifts you promise in the new
11:57world to come. And so, with all the angels and saints, we praise you, as without end we acclaim,
12:04Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of hosts, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the
12:12highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.
12:22You are indeed holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness. Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we
12:27pray, by sending down your Spirit upon them like the dew foam, so that they may become for us the
12:33body and blood of our Lord and Jesus Christ. At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly
12:40into his passion, he took bread, and giving thanks, broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying,
12:47Take this, all of you, and eat of it, for this is my body, which will be given up for you.
13:17In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice, and once more giving thanks, he gave it
13:28to his disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and drink from it, for this is the chalice of my blood,
13:36the blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be poured out for you and for many
13:42for the forgiveness of sins. Do this in memory of me.
14:12The mystery of faith. When we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim your death, O Lord,
14:32until you come again. Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection,
14:38we offer you, Lord, the bread of life and the chalice of salvation, giving thanks that you have
14:43held us ready to be in your presence and minister to you. Humbly we pray that, partaking of the body
14:50and blood of Christ, we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit. Remember, Lord, your church,
14:57spread throughout the world, and bring her to the fullness of charity, together with Francis our
15:02Pope and Charles our Bishop and all the clergy. Remember also our brothers and sisters who have
15:08fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection, and all who have died in your mercy. Welcome them
15:14into the light of your face. Have mercy on us all, we pray, that with the Blessed Virgin Mary,
15:20Mother of God, and blessed Joseph, her spouse, with the blessed apostles and all the saints
15:26that have pleased you throughout the ages, we may marry to be coheirs to eternal life and
15:31may praise and glorify you through your Son, Jesus Christ.
15:39Through him, and with him, and in him, O God Almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
15:45all glory and honor is yours forever and ever. Amen.
15:54At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say,
16:00Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done,
16:06on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses,
16:14as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from
16:21evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil. Graciously grant peace in our days,
16:27that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress,
16:32as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
16:41Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your apostles, Peace I leave you, my peace I give you,
16:45look not on our sins, but on the faith of your church, and graciously grant her peace and unity
16:51in accordance with your will, who live and reign forever and ever. The peace of the Lord be with
16:58you always. Let us offer each other the sign of peace. Peace be with you.
17:14Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
17:18Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
17:23Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, grant us peace.
17:48Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
17:55Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world.
18:00Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb. Lord, I am not worthy that you should
18:06enter under my roof, but only say the word, and my soul shall be healed.
18:11My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most blessed sacrament. I love you above
18:17all things, and I desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally,
18:24come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace you as if you were already there,
18:30and unite myself wholly to you. Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.
18:36Let us pray. May the sacrament we receive, Lord God, on this feast of St. Mary,
18:47strengthen us to walk the way of the cross and bring us to the glory of the resurrection
18:52through Christ our Lord. Dear friends, thank you for your company today during the celebration of
18:59Mass for the Solemnity of St. Mary MacKillop. We now ask for her intercession and for God's
19:04blessings upon you for the rest of the day. The Lord be with you. Bow down for the blessing.
19:12Through the example of St. Mary of the cross, may you learn to recognize God's will for you
19:17and trust in his providence. Amen. May her life of service awaken in you a deep respect
19:24for the poor and a strong will for justice. Amen. May you share in her courage, see with
19:32the eyes of Christian love, and learn from her holy deeds. Amen. And may the blessing of Almighty
19:39God, the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit come down on you and remain with you forever. Amen.
19:46Go and announce the gospel of the Lord.
