00:00Men of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested a young man allegedly accused of inciting
00:04violence on TikTok ahead of the planned August 1, 2024 mass protest envisaged by Nigerians
00:08to praise hold their demand over high cost of living in the country.
00:11Nigeria Police Force in a news release signed and made available on Sunday by Platteston
00:15Police Command spokesperson, Alfred Alabo, said the suspect in a viral TikTok video called
00:20for people to attack security operatives and burn down government properties including
00:24police stations.
00:25The statement reads in quote, following the release of a TikTok video that occupied the
00:29social media space, stimulating violence in connection with the planned nationwide protest,
00:33the Platteston Police Command has drawn and arrested the author of the inciting video.
00:37On the 27th of July, 2024, the attention of the command was drawn to the video putatively
00:42emanating from a TikTok account identified as lammalam68.
00:47The suspect in the video was seen assertively inciting the public to attack security operatives
00:51and burn down critical state and private infrastructures in Platteston as part of the activities for
00:55the protest.
00:56Based on the strength of the information, the Platteston Commissioner of Police, C.P.
01:00Emmanuel Oluwimiga Adesilu, said tactical assets of the command on motion to trace and
01:05apprehend the source of the mischievous video.
01:07Consequently, on the 28th of July, 2024, around 11.30am, when Suleyman Yakubu Pneu, aged 34
01:13years, of Josnoth, Platteston who appeared in the viral video was picked at Amadu Belowee
01:18just through an impeccable informant.
01:20While in our custody, the suspect confessed to being the one in the scatterphone video.
01:24Meanwhile, investigation is still ongoing.
01:27In view of the above, the Commissioner of Police wishes to state that the police will
01:30intensely resist any attempt by mischief makers to plunge the state into chaos.
01:34He stressed the need for peace to remain untampered in the state amidst the before, during and
01:38after the protest.
01:40The Platteston Commissioner of Police also urges the good people of Platteston to be
01:43law-abiding and refrain from making inciting comments that will threaten peace and security
01:47in the state.
01:48The C.P. encourages residents of the state to report any suspicious activities to the
01:52following GSM numbers, Police Control Room Emergency Numbers, 07059473022, 08038907662,
02:0108075391844, and 09053872296.
02:06Members of the general public are also advised to report any misconduct of our officers within
02:10the state through the following numbers, Platte State Complaint Response Unit Numbers, 08060545670,

02:28Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force has refuted claims that the IGP is trying to rewrite Nigeria
02:33constitution over the planned nationwide protest.
02:35The force in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Olumuwa Adejebi on Sunday, said,
02:40The Nigeria Police Force hereby addresses the recent accusations made by one activist,
02:45and others via various fora, alleging that the IGP is attempting to rewrite the constitution
02:49by requesting the details of the organizers and leaders of the planned nationwide protests.
02:53It is vital to clarify that the IGP has never denied the constitutional rights of every
02:57citizen to freedom of association and expression, but has rather, at every point, emphasized
03:01that the right is that to peaceful assembly and expression.
03:04Also, the Nigeria Police holds the responsibility to ensure that any activity, including protests,
03:09does not pose a threat to national security.
03:12In this wise, requesting the details of protest organizers and their leaders and the schedules
03:16of their protests which include location, period, routes, etc., is the standard procedure
03:20to facilitate effective communication, ensure the safety of all participants, and prevent
03:26any unlawful activities.
03:27It is also vital for Deji Adeoji to note that in the interest of defense, public safety,
03:32public order, public morality or public health, or for the purpose of protecting the rights
03:37and freedom of other persons as enshrined in Section 45, 1 of the 1999 Constitution
03:41of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, this request by the IGP is not out of place.
03:45It is essential to know who is planning the assembly, protests, in each state, as allowing
03:49faceless groups to operate on checks could jeopardize the peace and stability of the
03:53country and leave us with pains, sorrows and tears as experienced in the 2020 violent
03:57exile protests.
03:59If organized labor and other recognized bodies were involved, it would have provided a more
04:03structured and safer environment for such public protests.
04:06While the police urges Mr. Adeoji and other organizers not to besiege Nigerians, we therefore
04:11call on them to join hands in working together to uphold the security and well-being of our
04:15nation.
04:17A planned protest, scheduled for August 1, 2024, across the country.
04:22We have been monitoring development surrounding protest threats.
04:27While some groups call for violent protests, emulating Kenya's recent events, others advocate
04:34for peaceful demonstrations.
04:36However, some individuals promote peaceful protests with violent undertones, raising
04:44concerns about their sincerity.
04:50We have our own history of violent protests in Nigeria, and I don't believe we have to
04:57look to other countries to note the dangers of unchecked demonstrations.
05:04We commend patriots who have withdrawn from the protests due to the apparent sinister
05:10motives and ignorance of those calling for violence.
05:14We note those who have spoken out against any form of protest at this critical juncture,
05:22fearing enemies of our country may be manipulating the process.
05:27We confirm their fears are genuine, as we have credible intelligence on foreign mercenaries'
05:34involvement in this planned protest.
05:37The Nigerian police urge all Nigerians to exercise caution and think twice before joining
05:43any protest group.
05:45While we alert citizens to the sinister motives of certain groups planning to wreak havoc,
05:51it has become clear that even a peaceful protest at this time may be ill-timed.
05:57We issue a stand warning to clandestine groups plotting to destabilize the country and hoodlums
06:05seeking to exploit protests for their criminal agendas.
06:09We will not tolerate the killing of innocent citizens, destruction of public infrastructure
06:16and private property, or looting of private businesses.
06:20We acknowledge the constitutional right of Nigerian citizens to peaceful assembly and
06:25protest.
06:26However, in the interest of public safety and order, we urge all groups planning to
06:32protest to provide necessary details to the Commissioner of Police in the state where
06:37protest is intended to take place.
06:41To facilitate a successful and incident-free protest, they should please provide the following
06:47information.
06:491. Proposed protest routes and assembly points.
06:542. Expected duration of the protest.
06:583. Names and contact details of protest leaders and organizers.
07:034. Measures to prevent hijacking by criminal elements, including key identifiers for possible
07:10isolation of potential troublemakers.
07:13By providing this information, the police will be enabled to
07:181. Deploy adequate personnel and resources to ensure public safety.
07:232. Designate specific routes and areas for the protest to avoid conflicts with other
07:29events or activities.
07:313. Establish clear communication channels with protest leaders to address any concerns
07:37or issues that may arise.
07:394. Minimize the risk of violence, property damage or other criminal activity.
07:46We encourage all protestors to cooperate with the police, obey the law, and adhere to global
07:53best practices for peaceful assembly to guarantee a safe and successful exercise of their rights.
08:00We are committed to working with all Nigerians to promote peaceful expression and maintain
08:05public order.
08:07Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
08:10May the God of all creations help us to build our nation.
