00:00Nigeria police force has placed Naira's bounty on wanted British citizen Andrew Nguyen just
00:07as the suspect spoke from United Kingdom in an online interview with Channels Television
00:11on Monday evening, denying the allegation that he plotted to overthrow Nigeria President
00:17Bola Ametenebu.
00:19Nguyen spoke on Monday's edition of Channels Television's Politics Today from his base
00:24in the United Kingdom.
00:26He said he was not aware he had been labelled a fugitive.
00:30But Nguyen declared that he couldn't have been skewing to destabilise the leadership
00:35of a country that accommodated him for 25 years.
00:39Saying, He has been visiting Nigeria since 25 years.
00:43I am not aware that I am a fugitive.
00:46I am not aware that I am running away from the law.
00:50I have been visiting Nigeria for 25 years and have had a bookshop in the NLC office
00:56right in the centre of Abuja for 7 years.
00:59All that time, of course, the security forces have paid no interest in me.
01:05I have always had one nationality.
01:08The name on my passport is Andrew Nguyen and I operate with a nickname.
01:13I think it really started as differentiating in the sense of the broad political education
01:18work that I do with the bookshop.
01:21I am more than happy to talk to the police and have a discussion on WhatsApp or Zoom.
01:26I am more than happy to go to London and meet with officials from the Nigerian High Commission.
01:33If they want to start a conversation, then I think that is more than adequate.
01:38Nguyen's wife, Names Withheld, who also spoke on the programme, distanced her husband
01:44from the alleged terror act, saying the allegation was deliberately concocted to witch-hunt him.
01:51Meanwhile, the Nigerian police force has placed a 10 million Naira's bounty on the British
01:56national, Andrew Nguyen, also known as Andrew Povich or Drew Povich, and Nigerian, lucky
02:03in his opinion, who were declared wanted over a plot to overthrow President Bolotinibu.
02:09The force spokesperson, Olumiwa Adejebi on Monday stated that the force has specifically
02:15launched a comprehensive investigation on how foreign mercenaries and subversive elements
02:20plotted to overthrow the democratically elected in Nigeria.
02:24A special police-gazette bulletin shared with journalists at force headquarters, the force
02:30accused the suspects of terrorism financing, treasonable felony, cybercrime, subversion
02:36and criminal conspiracy.
02:39If seen, arrest and hand over to the nearest police, or to the office of the Deputy Inspector
02:45General of Police, Department of Force Intelligence, Force Headquarters, Abuja, or call 08035179870
02:55or 9133333785 or 9133333786, the bulletin partly reads.
03:05A reward sum of Naira's 10 million Naira's awaits any persons with information leading
03:09to the arrest of each of them, Denny Trust reported.
03:14We reported on Monday that the British citizen, Andrew Nguyen has reacted to the allegation
03:19made against him by the Nigerian police force that he plotted during the N-Bank governance
03:24protest to overthrow President Bolotinibu, saying, protest is not a treasonable act hence
03:30the government should set free all the 10 protesters whom some of them were arraigned
03:34before Federal High Court sitting in Abuja for terrorism and treasonable felony on Monday.
03:41According to the letter as reported by Sahara reporters, the Briton who was accused of inciting
03:46insurrection against President Bolotinibu's government urged the Nigerian government not
03:51to treat protests as treason.
03:54Andrew's bookshop, located at the Abuja headquarters of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, was
04:01previously raided and sealed.
04:03Sahara reporters added that part of the bogus charges against him involved enabling some
04:09N-Bank governance protesters with the intent to destabilize Nigeria.
04:14In a statement on the letterhead of his bookshop, Povey wrote, protest is not treason, release
04:21all the detainees.
04:23The mass protests over N-Bank governance and N-Honda frightened the government, but
04:28rather than addressing the people's demands, the government turned to repression.
04:34Povey further stated, perhaps 40 people were murdered by the police and other security
04:39forces, thousands were arrested and many still remain in captivity.
04:45In Abuja, the authorities have attacked the so-called leaders and organizers of the protests.
04:51Ten people faced ridiculous charges including treason, mutiny and levying war against the
04:57state.
04:58The NLC promised a general strike to protect its president, Joe Ajayo, from arrest and
05:05detention in relation to similar charges.
05:08Despite the flimsy nature of the evidence against the detainees, the first long years
05:13in prison unless the trade union movement is prepared to protect them.
05:18On the 7th of August, the NLC said it, condemns in the strongest terms the human rights violations
05:25perpetrated by security forces against peaceful protesters.
05:30The first person to be arrested in this case was Eliojo Opadua.
05:35He is a former colleague of Joe Ajayo, working for NUEE, the electricians' union, as an organizer
05:42in Abuja.
05:44He is also the vice-chair of the NLC in Kugi State.
05:48He has now been detained for over four weeks with no tangible evidence.
05:54His family was told that he had received a WhatsApp message from one of the other alleged
05:59leaders.
06:00This was after Eliojo had actually been detained.
06:04The ten detainees have been accused of conspiracy to commit a range of serious crimes.
06:09However, the many know each other.
06:13Five of them may have been members of a WhatsApp group set up to organize the protests in Abuja.
06:19But the other five are unknown to these comrades.
06:23There may be a few of the flag-waving protesters from Kano who were added to extend the range
06:28of the organizers to cover the main protests from Sokoto to Maiduguri.
06:33There appears to be a conflict between the government and the police investigating this
06:37case.
06:39The head of the intelligence response team, Ayati, told the detainees' lawyers that he
06:44would have released them, but that he had orders from above not to set them free.
06:50So the police have developed what appears to be a ridiculous case involving the owner
06:54of Ivan Bali Books.
06:56They are claiming that he goes under the name of Andrew Povich, a Russian-sounding name,
07:02and that he has now left Nigeria for Russia.
07:06Neither of these claims are true.
07:08Yomi, who works for Ivan Bali Books, has, like the other detainees, been treated in
07:14a terribly inhuman manner.
07:17He was arrested in front of his wife and three-year-old daughter.
07:22All their phones were confiscated by the police.
07:25This was despite appeals from his wife that they needed a phone to get money for food.
07:31He was then imprisoned illegally and held in chains, beaten and tortured for three days.
07:38His only involvement was to design flyers for the protests on the instructions of his
07:42boss.
07:44The NLC has shown that it has the power to protect its president.
07:49It now needs to extend this action to protect its other officers, its members, and the general
07:55public.
07:57We had reported that the Nigerian government, through the Office of the Inspector General
08:01of Police, IGP, has alleged that one British national, Andrew Nguyen, made attempt to overthrow
08:07President Bola Ametilubu following the investigation of some senior staff of the Nigerian Labor
08:12Congress, NLC.
08:15Nigeria Police Force on Monday declared the British national identified as Andrew Nguyen
08:20a.k.a. Andrew Povich or Drew Povich, wanted for allegedly plotting to overthrow the President
08:26Bola Ametilubu-led government.
08:29The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Mwewa Adejevi, in a statement said,
08:35Following extensive intelligence gathering and collaboration with other security agencies,
08:40nine suspects have been apprehended.
08:43Who received?
08:44Substantial financial backing from foreign sources to destabilize the country.
08:49Preliminary findings suggest the orchestrated and funded violent protests disseminated false
08:55information and engaged in other unlawful activities to create anarchy and justify their
09:01illegal plot to overthrow the democratically elected government.
09:06Investigations have identified a foreign mercenary, Andrew Nguyen, also known as Andrew Povich
09:12or Drew Povich, a British national, who built a network of sleeper cells to topple the government
09:18and plunge the nation into chaos.
09:21He rented a space at Labour House, Abuja, for an Ivor Valley bookshop and established
09:28Stars of Nations schools as a cover for his subversive activities.
09:33Documentary evidence and confessions revealed that Andrew Nguyen issued directives, monitored
09:38progress and provided finance and operational guidance to achieve unconstitutional regime
09:44change in Nigeria.
09:46He mobilized and deployed several millions of Naira to his Nigerian collaborators, urging
09:52them to mobilize the public to violently storm police facilities and military barracks, anticipating
09:58a bloodbath that would instigate international condemnation of the Nigerian government.
10:04The police also said the investigation of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, has revealed
10:10the level of involvement of the foreigner as the NLC did not even know the real identity
10:15of the person also alleged to be as a foreign mercenary occupying their building.
10:21Force Public Relations Officer, SCP Olumuyo Adejobi, while briefing journalists in Abuja
10:28on Monday, said Andrew built a network of sleeper cells to topple the government and
10:34plunge the nation into chaos.
10:36Similarly, the police declared Loki in his Obi-Wan, who is alleged to be a local coordinator
10:43for Andrew, wanted, adding that global hunting for them has commenced in connection with
10:48the investigation.
10:49According to him, documentary evidence and confessions revealed that Andrew Nguyen issued
10:55directives, monitored progress and provided finance and operational guidance to achieve
11:01unconstitutional regime change in Nigeria.
11:05Since the commencement of investigations, Andrew Nguyen has fled the country.
11:11He and one of his local coordinators, one Loki in his Obi-Wan, have accordingly been
11:16declared wanted and global hunting for them has commenced in connection with this investigation.
12:11Andrew Nguyen said in a statement that he will continue to work with the police, and
12:18that he will continue to work with the police to find out what is going on in the country.
12:25He said that he will continue to work with the police to find out what is going on in
12:30the country.
12:31He said that he will continue to work with the police to find out what is going on in
12:37the country.
12:39We've been together for nine years, maybe eight years of friendship, and we got legally
12:45married last year.
12:47My husband is falsely accused.
12:50He's never been a terrorist.
12:54He's being accused because one Mr. Olumide Inok Nguyen is owing him and not ready to
13:01pay him.
13:02And the case is in court even now.
13:04So he's just doing everything he can to intimidate and throw him out of the country.
13:09He's in UK.
13:11Because he came in and at the expiring date of his going back, he had to go back.
13:18If not for all the struggles in, this is September, so by right he's supposed to be back maybe
13:25around 20-something of September.
