00:00It was a busy time at the docks. All the engines were working hard, pushing and pulling trucks about.
00:07One morning, Percy was late. Cranky the crane was quick to criticise.
00:12These ships can't be kept waiting, they have important cargo. If they miss the tides, they will be delayed in the docks.
00:19You should look up to ships and show more respect. You are, after all, only little.
00:25We've got too much work, huffed Percy. Then perhaps a lorry should do your job.
00:30Percy was shocked.
00:36He told the other engines what Cranky had said.
00:39Stuff and nonsense, snorted James. We engines run this island, said Henry.
00:45What if a lorry does arrive? I'm afraid it did, along with two more.
00:53Cranky was delighted.
00:56Hey, you down there, your job's done now. These lorries are taking over. One of them wants to talk to you.
01:02The lorry was very rude.
01:05What's that steaming lump of scrap iron doing here? Be off with you.
01:09Scrap iron? Steaming scrap iron? Pah!
01:15A little later, Percy met up with Thomas and James. Another lorry was being rude to them.
01:21Then he saw Percy.
01:23Oh, look, it's a little green goblin on wheels. You'll be scrapped. Just you wait and see.
01:33Well, boss, my boiler, what a horrid lorry, exclaimed Thomas.
01:38Despicable, agreed James.
01:43The next engine to meet a lorry was Toby.
01:47Well, well, well. No wonder this railway's in a mess. You belong in a museum, not working in a quarry.
01:55I might look old, but I'm very useful.
01:58Useful? Pah, replied the lorry. Just you toodle off.
02:03Toodle, spluttered Toby.
02:05Come along, Toby, interrupted his driver. Don't bother to argue with him. We'll go to the flour mill instead.
02:13But when they arrived at the flour mill, Toby was shocked to see yet another lorry.
02:19What are you doing here?
02:21We three are doing your work now. You're too slow.
02:25The foreman spoke to Toby's driver. I'm sorry, times are a-changing, I'm afraid.
02:30Toby might be old, replied his driver, but he's reliable.
02:35Come on, Toby, we'll go to the farms. They'll still use us.
02:39Toby trundled sadly away.
02:42His railway ran through a narrow gorge, but vehicles had to tackle a steep and dangerous road.
02:51When Toby arrived, he saw the lorry from the quarry again. It was loaded with rock.
02:59That lorry's in trouble, thought Toby. And he was.
03:10The driver was thrown clear. Rotten roads, he muttered.
03:16The wrecked lorry was taken to the docks.
03:21Percy looked at the lorry. What's this lump of steaming scrap iron, he teased.
03:27I'll be back, replied the lorry, so you can wipe that silly smile off your smokebox.
03:33Pa, said Percy, and wheezed him loudly.
03:36Then Butch, the breakdown vehicle, arrived. He was towing the lorry from the flour mill.
03:41What happened? asked Toby's driver.
03:43He was overloaded with flour, came to reply, and he broke down.
03:47Not very useful now, are you? said Toby.
03:51Grrr, replied the lorries.
03:53Then James whistled excitedly. They're bringing in the third lorry on a barge.
03:58What happened to that one? James asked.
04:01Stupid lorry was reversing and fell straight into the sea, said the tow truck man.
04:07Later, Thomas arrived. He looked at the three lorries and laughed.
04:13Well, well, well, the Brothers Grimm smashed, broken, and sunk.
04:20The lorries didn't return, and the engines now work even harder to make sure they never will.
