00:00All the engines in the island of Sodor love their work, but sometimes there is too much
00:11work. That's when the Fat Controller brings new engines to the island.
00:18Salty the Dockyard Diesel is one of these engines. He loves to tell tales of the sea.
00:25The sea heaved until the old freighter finally caught a tide. Ah, it's going to be useful.
00:33Salty is excited about coming to the island of Sodor. Islands are surrounded by the sea.
00:39Salty loves the sea. Soon Salty arrived at his new job.
00:45Ahoy mateys, Salty Pryder the Seventh Seas. I'm a new diesel and I'm here to give you
00:52some help. Bill and Ben didn't think they needed any help, especially from a diesel.
01:01Welcome to Centre Island Quarry, Mavis said proudly.
01:06Salty looked all around. Everywhere he looked he saw nothing but rocks.
01:11A quarry? he cried. There must be some mistake. I'm a dockyard diesel.
01:17You're a quarry diesel now, said Mavis, and she explained that they had to complete an
01:22important job for the Fat Controller. Salty was sad that he wouldn't be working by the
01:27sea, but he knew what it meant to be a really useful engine, and he set to work at once.
01:34Ah well, at least there'll be trucks. You better mind them, Mavis said. They can be a bother.
01:42He won't last five minutes, said Bill. Those trucks will trip him up soon enough, said Ben.
01:50But to Bill and Ben's surprise, the trucks seemed to give Salty no trouble at all.
01:57Yo ho ho in a bucket of prawns, a tiller spins, sang Salty. And the captain yawns, sang the trucks.
02:09Thanks to Salty, the Fat Controller's important job was almost done.
02:15Bill and Ben were surprised and a little jealous.
02:21Here comes Mr Showoff, groused Ben. You have to admit he's got a knack with those trucks,
02:28said Mavis. Driver says he'll bore the bolt-office with his stories, huffed Bill.
02:35But Salty didn't say a word. He didn't come near the shed.
02:46Mavis was worried. She rolled alongside and asked him what he was doing on his own.
02:52Oh, I thought I might catch a bit of sea breeze.
02:56You really do miss the sea, don't you? asked Mavis.
02:59I, said Salty, I do.
03:03But Salty knew the quarry work was important.
03:06The next day he tried to show Bill and Ben his secret with the trucks.
03:10I like working to a musical rhythm, he said.
03:14And so do the trucks. Why don't you give it a try, me hearties?
03:19Here we go, here we go, here we go. No we don't, no we don't, no we don't, don't, don't.
03:28But try as they might, Bill and Ben could not move the trucks the way Salty could.
03:34Later that day, the Fat Controller came to the quarry.
03:38He was surprised to see the job had been completed.
03:43Well done, said the Fat Controller. It was Salty, said Mavis.
03:49We couldn't have done it without him.
03:51Then I've got a bigger job for you, Salty.
03:54Aye, aye, sir. What kind of a quarry is it?
03:58Quarry, said the Fat Controller. I'm sending you to Brendam Docks.
04:02That dock, Salty exclaimed. The docks are hard by the sea.
04:06Oh, thank you, sir, he said. This reminds me of a time in Bimini,
04:10and Salty was telling stories again.
04:15Salty loves Brendam Docks. He gets more work done than any three engines and feels really useful.
04:22And only the trucks know his secret.
