00:00Brendam Docks is one of the busiest dockyards on all the island of Sodor.
00:13It's where ships and engines and cranes alike are busy day and night, every day of the year.
00:24But poor Cranky the crane never gets a nap.
00:27He never gets to sleep early, he works all the time.
00:31And his only company are the gulls that settle on his arm.
00:36So Cranky is always cranky.
00:47Ahoy there, Cranky! cried Salty.
00:50Where have you been? snapped Cranky.
00:52And a good day to you too, Captain.
00:55Bill and Ben arrived for work, full of mischief.
00:58Hurry up, barked Cranky. I haven't got all day.
01:02You're no fun, grumbled Bill.
01:04You wouldn't be fun if you were stuck up here, snapped Cranky.
01:07So that's why you're cranky, said Bill.
01:10You're lonely, said Ben.
01:12I'm not, Cranky cranked.
01:14So it's company you be needing, said Salty.
01:18Reminds me of a lonely old Grand Banks lighthouse keeper.
01:23Not another one of your stories, cried Cranky.
01:27Oh please, Salty, they chimed. We haven't heard it.
01:31Twas in the middle of a wee naughty storm, Salty began.
01:36The likes of which you see once in a lifetime.
01:39This made Cranky very cranky.
01:42So cranky that he swung his arm around.
01:46And dropped the pipes onto the tracks instead of the trucks.
01:57Whoops, said Cranky meekly.
02:00You've blown the main now, matey, said Salty.
02:04The engines were trapped.
02:06You're going to get into trouble, sang Bill and Ben.
02:11The Fat Controller was in his office being measured for a new waistcoat.
02:15When he heard the news, he left immediately for the docks.
02:19The Fat Controller knew that any delay at the docks could cause confusion.
02:24You have made a terrible mess, Cranky, he said sternly.
02:28I'm sorry, sir, Cranky whispered.
02:31You engines will have to stay here tonight until Harvey clears up this mess.
02:36You engines will have to stay here tonight until Harvey clears up this mess in the morning.
02:43Cranky's heart sank as Salty uttered those fateful words.
02:48That reminds me of a story.
02:51It was a bitter cold winter.
02:53The brave little ship was stuck until the ice melted the next spring.
02:58He barely made it round the cape.
03:00After a hundred scary days at sea without a scratch,
03:04he sailed into port and crashed his bow not fifteen feet from my buffers.
03:10Luckily, no one was hurt.
03:12Except my ears, wailed Cranky.
03:16Salty spent all night telling tales of powerful storms, daring rescues and brave little ships.
03:23And when the sun rose, he was still talking and talking and talking.
03:29I can't take any more, groaned Cranky.
03:34Harvey the crane engine arrived.
03:37The Fat Controller sent me to help clear away this mess, he puffed proudly.
03:41Cranky was so pleased the engines would be going soon, he forgot to be Cranky.
03:47I'll never misbehave again, he promised, as long as I don't have to listen to any more of Salty's stories.
03:55And after Harvey and the workmen had cleared the wreckage, Cranky worked hard all day.
04:01He carefully loaded the trucks, helped speed the engines on their way and he said,
04:06Please and thank you.
04:08This is new, puffed Thomas.
04:10But he had spoken too soon.
04:12Cranky couldn't help himself.
04:18It was nice while it lasted, said Percy.
04:21And all the engines laughed.
04:25But Cranky was still Cranky.
