00:00Thomas, Percy and James were looking at the early morning sky.
00:05Everyone's so much happier when springtime comes, said Thomas happily.
00:10Everyone except the Fat Controller, grumbled James.
00:13He seems to be working us harder than ever. I'm tired of these coastal runs.
00:17He just wants everything to be ready for the holidays, replied Percy.
00:22Anyway, salty air makes me all cheerful in my smokebox.
00:25Snorted James.
00:26It's the countryside that really gets me fired up. It's the only place to be.
00:31And he puffed away to collect his fuel trucks from the docks.
00:36Thomas and Percy had to take some empty trucks to the scrapyard.
00:42As they were shunting their trucks into a siding, they saw an old coach.
00:47She looked very sad.
00:49What are you doing here?
00:51They called me old slow coach and told me I wasn't useful anymore.
00:55Now only the mice ride in me.
00:57Well, you may be dusty, but you look in perfect shape.
01:01The yard manager appeared.
01:03Come along, I have trucks for you to take away.
01:05Excuse me, said Percy's driver. Can you tell us about this coach?
01:09Old slow coach. She's been here for years.
01:11She'll be broken up when we find the time, he replied.
01:15The engines were most dismayed.
01:18We'll try and help you, said Thomas.
01:20But he didn't know how.
01:25Meanwhile, James was enjoying himself.
01:28This is the life, he chortled.
01:30But he was heading for trouble.
01:32One of the fuel trucks was leaking.
01:36And suddenly it caught fire.
01:40Help, cried James.
01:45They reached the siding and his driver gave the alarm.
01:48It's fuel and it's dangerous.
01:54As Thomas and Percy approached the junction,
01:57they saw the smoke and a guard waving a red flag.
02:00Sparks from James' funnel have set the fuel trucks ablaze, he called.
02:04The firemen have got things under control, but it's quite a mess.
02:09You said the countryside run got you all fired up, James, said Percy.
02:12But I didn't think he meant it in this way.
02:14Ha, snorted James.
02:16It was the stupid truck's fault, not mine.
02:19It's safe to proceed now, called the firemen.
02:22Thomas and Percy puffed slowly by.
02:25But now they felt sorry for James.
02:30It wasn't long before they reached the station.
02:40Later, as they were having a long drink at the water towers,
02:44they suddenly heard a commotion.
02:46What's the matter? Thomas asked.
02:48It's another fire at the workman's hut, replied Thomas' driver.
02:52We'd better see what we can do.
03:06The fire engines arrived, but they had a big problem.
03:09We are completely out of water, cried a fireman.
03:12We can't use seawater, because it clogs our works.
03:15We'll just have to let that building burn.
03:18Then Thomas had an idea.
03:20Why don't you use the water in our tanks? We've just refilled them.
03:26The firemen wasted no time.
03:29Your very clever engines, chuckled their drivers.
03:34Soon the fire was out, but the hut where the workmen lived was destroyed.
03:39We'll need to find something to house the men.
03:42They can't sleep on the beach, said the foreman.
03:44What about old Slowcoach? She would be perfect for the workmen.
03:49Comfy too, added Thomas.
03:51What a good idea, Percy, said his driver.
03:55They phoned the Fat Controller, who agreed.
03:58She'll be spick and span by the time you collect her.
04:02And she was. And very happy too.
04:07I can't thank you enough, she said. I feel splendid.
04:11The engines buffered up to her, and she set off happily for her new home.
04:21Everyone agreed there was nothing old or slow about Coach,
04:26and she will always be really useful indeed.
