00:00Flatbeds of fear.
00:11It was a misty day on the island of Sodor.
00:16At Brendam Docks, Cranky was unloading a big shipment of building supplies.
00:23What's that noise?
00:28Arr! That'll be the flatbeds of fear, Thomas.
00:35The flatbeds of fear? What are they?
00:38Well now, me hearty.
00:41Long, long ago, an old engine was puffing along the tracks pulling three flatbeds
00:50when suddenly his coupling snapped.
00:54Arr! And the flatbeds rolled away.
01:00Now the flatbeds roll the rails a-whistling and a-wailing
01:06and looking for an engine to couple up to.
01:10Arr!
01:12So, me hearty, beware the flatbeds of fear.
01:17They might come rolling after you.
01:21Enough of your tall tales, Salty.
01:25Thomas has work to do. Off you go, Thomas.
01:33So Thomas was coupled up to the flatbeds
01:37and with a toot of his whistle was on his way.
01:43Arr! Watch out for the flatbeds of fear, Thomas.
01:48You'll never know when they'll come rolling by.
01:56Thomas clattered through the mist with the pipes on his flatbeds
02:01when suddenly he heard the noise again.
02:05What's that?
02:08Thomas looked around but he couldn't see anything that could have made the mysterious sound.
02:16Emily and Henry were at the shunting yard when Thomas arrived.
02:21Hello, Thomas.
02:23I've just heard the flatbeds of fear.
02:26The flat who of what?
02:28The flatbeds of fear. Salty told me about them.
02:32They roam the rails in search of an engine and they whistle and wail.
02:37That sounds spooky.
02:39It was.
02:41Don't be such a pair of scaredy engines.
02:44There must be a perfectly sensible explanation.
02:47I hope so. I really do.
02:50WHISTLE
02:56The next morning, Henry was sent to pick up the pipes from the shunting yard
03:02and take them to Vicarstown.
03:04I don't want to hear the flatbeds of fear.
03:07I don't want to hear the flatbeds of fear.
03:13Oh no! It's the flatbeds of fear!
03:20But it was just a cow in the field.
03:24I don't want to hear the flatbeds of fear.
03:28I don't want to hear the flatbeds of fear.
03:32Oh! It's the flatbeds of fear!
03:36But it was just the station master blowing his whistle.
03:44Henry finally made it to the shunting yard and picked up the pipes.
03:50I don't want to hear the flatbeds of fear.
03:54I don't want to hear the flatbeds of fear.
03:59Then Henry heard some whistling and some wailing.
04:04Oh no! That's not a cow in a field and it's not the guard's whistle.
04:11It must be the flatbeds of fear!
04:18Henry was much too scared to keep on puffing.
04:22He slowed right down, so his driver took him onto a siding.
04:27Thinking there was something wrong.
04:31Henry stopped and he wouldn't budge.
04:36Emily had to be called to take the flatbeds to Vicar's Town.
04:40You are being very silly, Henry.
04:43There really are no such things as the flatbeds of fear.
04:48But there are! I heard them!
04:51Nonsense! What did you actually hear?
04:54I heard a whistling and a wailing sound, just like Thomas said.
04:59Oh, well, I still think there must be a sensible explanation.
05:10Then Emily heard something too.
05:13What's that noise?
05:16Thomas, are you playing a trick on me?
05:19But Emily couldn't see Thomas anywhere.
05:25Henry! Is that you?
05:28There was no sign of Henry.
05:31Emily puffed away as fast as she could.
05:35But the whistling and wailing was right behind her.
05:39Oh no! Maybe there isn't a sensible explanation.
05:44Maybe it really is the flatbeds of fear!
05:49Emily puffed faster and faster as she tried to get away from the flatbeds of fear.
05:56Then there was trouble. Emily took a turn too fast.
06:01The pipes came loose and rolled off the flatbeds.
06:06Bubbling boilers!
06:09At least I can't hear the flatbeds of fear anymore.
06:13They must have gone away after another engine.
06:19Rocky had to be called to help load the spilled pipes onto the flatbeds again.
06:29Meanwhile, Thomas was at the docks.
06:32Have you got some more pipes ready for me, Cranky?
06:35Keep your fun along, Thomas! Nearly done!
06:39Ha-ha! There's a bit of a breeze whipping up me hearties!
06:45Oh no! It's the flatbeds of fear!
06:49There are no flatbeds of fear. That's just the wind whistling through the pipes.
06:56Really?
06:58You engines!
07:00Salty! You said the whistling and wailing was the flatbeds of fear.
07:06That I did. But it might just have been the wind.
07:12You were tasing us all along.
07:15Oh, that's the way it is with us dockside diesels.
07:24That night, Emily was late getting back to the sheds.
07:28Oh, Thomas, you were right. The flatbeds of fear are real.
07:34What do you mean? You're the one who was right. There was a sensible explanation.
07:40Really? But I heard the sound and it kept following me. And what explanation?
07:48It was one of Salty's tall tales. That noise was just the wind blowing through the pipes.
07:56Wind blowing through the pipes? Oh, I see. I knew it had to be something. I wasn't really scared.
08:07But everyone knew that Emily really had been frightened.
08:12And after that, nobody ever spoke about the flatbeds of fear again.
08:19Except maybe Salty.
08:22And to this day, the flatbeds of fear roll the sodor rails looking for an engine to couple up to.
08:34Oh, Salty. Honestly.
