00:04toys DC multiverse the McFarland collectors edition the return of
00:08Superman Superman and crypto
00:31sent to earth from the dying planet of Krypton as baby Kal-El was found by
00:36farmers Martha and Jonathan Kenton raised as their son Clark as Clark grew
00:40up the radiation from the earth's yellow Sun gave him extraordinary powers which
00:44he kept hidden now fully grown he uses his powers to protect his adopted world
00:48as Superman the Man of Steel is virtually invulnerable and has the
00:51powers of super strength super speed and flight he also has enhanced senses
00:55including heat vision x-ray vision super hearing and super breath well it
01:00seems while the Man of Steel was healing he still manages not to miss leg day or
01:04arm day or chest day for that matter just before we get a closer look though
01:09at the return of Superman Superman I'm gonna take of course the tape measure
01:12which I already am and we're gonna figure out how tall the figure stands
01:15now even though his he's pretty big and bulky the height of the figure is still
01:19gonna be about the same as regular soups in that the figure is gonna be still
01:22seven inches in height and still roughly about 17 and a half centimeters
01:26tall well I don't think many would buy the idea that a regenerated Superman
01:29would be of a bigger build than this one here the action comics the reason why I
01:33do bring this one in is not only the fact that this is one of my favorite go
01:36to Superman but also though that the head sculpts are very much sharing
01:39similar styles of molds not saying that one is simply just a longer hair version
01:43of the action comics no no I'm not saying that at all but when you'll see
01:46in a second when I get up close and personal you'll see that they have very
01:49similar facial features other figures that we can also bring in all that have
01:54claimed to be Superman during Superman's hiatus here's what the figure looks like
01:57with steel here's what the figure though looks like with Superboy and here's what
02:00the figure though looks like with eradicator I know that's not the right
02:02eradicate we don't really actually have a classic eradicator just yet just yet
02:06and of course I've got a whole lot of empty space here what's that empty space
02:09can be filled in with well we're obviously we're gonna be talking about
02:12the return of Superman we have to also discuss the death of Superman here's
02:15what the figure looks like with the massive doomsday from massive
02:18Kryptonian monsters to slightly smaller scale canines one of the included
02:22accessories with soups is his trusty dog Krypto and just before we look at his
02:26loyal dog let's look at his loyal display stand which I don't know how
02:29loyal the stand really is considering we've seen the stand several times
02:32already anyways it's molded here in black it still has the DC logo on the
02:38front that's painted here in silver and I think most times if not the McFarland
02:41collectors edition figures tend to have the DC logo painted in silver has there
02:44ever been a time that's never been I mean there's been the glow-in-the-dark
02:47versions but most of the time usually for the collectors editions they're
02:50usually painted in silver the back is still hollow it still houses the card
02:53there on the top let me just pull the card out put the standee down for a
02:56second do I have to draw everyone's attention to the fact that there's
02:59definitely a size difference and I'm not just saying I you know obviously
03:02Superman's only this big I mean I'm not looking at from that standpoint but look
03:06at the frame though of Superman I mean look at the size of the of what he is
03:09actually in plastic and look at what he would have been compared against now I
03:13would even maybe make the argument that Superman may look a little malnourished
03:16on the front of the card as he means that maybe bulk up just a little bit
03:20more he has no defeated doomsday as you can see he's falling down the side of
03:23him he's holding him on by his little cables here which I don't think makes
03:27the most sense because by now doomsday would have already had all this kind of
03:31containment super ripped off he does though also have the American flag off
03:34to the side one of the unfortunate missed opportunities to not include that
03:38as an accessory I think maybe that other Superman that now this guy's been
03:41released a couple of times already I think maybe one of the other Superman
03:44may have been released with a cape or with a flag you can let me know down
03:47below in the comment section in the meantime though on the back of the card
03:50his real name is Kal-El and Clark Kent the data file also gives us a
03:54substantial read although the read isn't necessarily specific to the death nor
03:58the return of Superman it's sort of more just a generic read up of the
04:01Kryptonian survivor now you can read this for yourself you can pause this for
04:06yourself I've already taken the liberty of reading this at the game review so
04:08I've saved you some of the legwork speaking though of legwork we're gonna
04:11talk talk a lot more about Superman's body let's just move that off to the
04:15side one of the other mentioned accessories is the fact he does come
04:18include crypto I guess before looking at the dog the figure does have some
04:21swappable hands a closed fist for punching doomsday's face he also does
04:25have a dynamic or gestured hand either one of these can be removed and funny
04:29though enough if you've already haven't noticed already let me just draw to you
04:33the attention to the fact that the hands are actually mirror flips to one another
04:36so when you get him out of the packaging he has a closed fist over here he has a
04:39dynamic hand on the other side and lo and behold would you get a little of
04:42this the other hand that he has are basically just the opposite hand on the
04:46other side so we'll change those hands out more in a moment like I said though
04:49the figure does come include with crypto you know it's sad though that crypto
04:52doesn't have any articulation but you know to think about this what really
04:56could I have made articulate if I made like his legs articulate then you have a
04:59figure that probably would be really loose over time making this only really
05:03just a statue is probably the best thing they could have done it's molded
05:06decently it's well painted I will say and like the head sculpt for crypto
05:09looks fantastic dog looks pretty loyal though on the safe I can really say the
05:14same though for the podium standee does have of course the little collar piece
05:17it does have a Superman emblem down below here and I'm glad to actually see
05:20that they decided to use a cape one of my only concerns I have with the cape is
05:24that obviously if you're looking at crypto he's white if you're looking at
05:27the cape it's red you probably put the two together well putting the two
05:32together I would imagine over time especially if you in hot conditions the
05:35stain of the red may eventually start to settle on the plastic I've got just a
05:39little bit right now on the spine of crypto if I move my blasted hand out of
05:43the way can you see it right there right there get it out of the way just a
05:48little bit on the top and I'm sure that will progress the longer I have this
05:51figure out I do like that at least they use the cloth cape rather than a plastic
05:55cape it does give it a little bit of a flow to it and for the fact that the
05:58figure doesn't have any posability not even in his head really at all oh wait
06:02oh wait he does this was super tight before and I thought myself you know
06:06what I'm not gonna force it just in case it broke but I did bend it and you can
06:10see like he does actually rotate so let me just correct myself by that he does
06:14have a little bit of head articulation but the rest of the body I mean it's
06:17basically just a section piece putting crypto over here and now getting a
06:21closer look at Superman now the state already the obvious I mean I've already
06:24mentioned this a couple of times already Superman is pretty thick the head sculpt
06:28is good on this guy so good in fact that I'm almost even tempted to try to heat
06:32the head and if I find my way to actually pick up another one of these
06:34which luckily I've just found a whole bunch of these at my local Toys R Us for
06:38a while actually it was just a wasteland of DC multiverse I think we basically
06:42just had Aquaman stuff sitting on the shelf for a while oh and we also had
06:45Black Adam nobody's buying Black Adam toys at all local Toys R Us and lo and
06:49behold I just happen to go to one that's a little out of my way and they had this
06:53Superman and they had a couple other ones I picked up we'll be looking at an
06:55upcoming review so I'm finally able to say I found some somewhat newer figures
06:59on the local stores and local local aisles but the head sculpt on this guy's
07:03really good why I said earlier though that if you were to compare him say with
07:07the action comics Superman not to not to surprise anyone in there there's very
07:11much a very similar style of face now again I'm not saying it all that they
07:15are using the exact same head anybody would know looking at that that's not
07:17just simply using the action comics head and giving him longer hair in the back
07:21he has a party on the back business in the front he's got the Superman curl
07:25there also as well but you know as well to look at the faces they're very much
07:28similar things that you could say that this is like the evolution of
07:32evolutionary next step or regenerative step of what this would the Superman
07:36would have originally look like again looking at the bodies there's really no
07:39way to say that a Superman that's been healing up this whole time would have
07:43been this much bigger and bulkier but still though like very similar style of
07:47heads now we did get ourselves a black suit Superman that had had himself a
07:51beard I'm almost even trying to attempt it to take the head off this one and see
07:56if it will actually fit on that black suit Superman if not the case I would
08:00hope that down the road because when I think of return of Superman I also tend
08:03to think of the black suit as well that if hopefully maybe not necessarily using
08:07this body but I hope that maybe they use this head down the road for a black suit
08:10Superman instead I like the head for what it is it looks really good painted
08:16on the eyebrows as well as the eyes very meticulously handled the paint also
08:19around his lips and but again like it looks very much like if I was to take
08:23the back the party on the back and I just remove that all together just move
08:26my fingers out of the way and I brought back in the action comic Superman would
08:31you not say that they are very much I yes they're not the same but would you
08:34much say that they're very similar style of faces okay that's the last time I'll
08:38say that but yes he does have the mullet there on the back that was a trend that
08:41we not that I'm proud of it I never had a mullet myself but that was a trend
08:45that was a big thing back in the days Kevin Costner also sported a mullet
08:48which ironically enough also he was Jonathan Kent in the Man of Steel from
08:52John Snyder Jack John Snyder Zack Snyder I know I was thinking John Snyder
08:57but long hair though on the back not a look that really lasted very long with
09:00the Man of Steel and luckily he did decide to cut it down the road I mean
09:03cutting his hair I would imagine be quite difficult
09:05Kryptonian hair it's enough to hold what it like a cinder block in was a quest
09:10for peace Superman for anyways got long hair on the back there's no there's no
09:14additional paint it seems to be relying just on only black alone head sculptor
09:17was really good here's though where my biggest problem has with this figure and
09:20probably a lot of people have been thinking about the same thing when they
09:23either pick this figure up for themselves or they've seen images of it
09:25online I just feel though in my honest opinion that the body is way too big I
09:30said it torso is really large I mean obviously has massive sized arms I mean
09:35there's size of tree trunks the emblem looks good it's one of my favorite
09:38things though about this figure is the way they've handled the emblem it's a
09:41little though close in quarters when it comes to yes curl but I think it's an
09:44it's an emblem that works really well for this figure I'm also liking the way
09:47they've sculpted the cape the cape is very similar I'm gonna bring in the cape
09:51here maybe not necessarily for the fact it does have like the little point on
09:55the end here but it's very much similar style of cape to the hush Superman funny
09:59though enough that I'm bringing in the hush Superman because one of the
10:01overlooked things that was on the hush Superman that's now missed here on the
10:05return of Superman is yet there's no little yellow s symbol on the back the
10:09paint overall is generally good I mean there's very little paint that really
10:12has to happen here I mean obviously they would have painted the emblem they would
10:14have molded only really the cape they probably would have painted there the
10:18oval shaped belt buckle and everything else probably would have just relied on
10:21plastic it probably would have painted also as well the boots but what little
10:24we get in the way of paint is painted decently though but I just feel like
10:27honestly it's too big of a Superman now for the figures articulation now even
10:32though he does have a bigger frame to contend with the articulation is gonna
10:35be about this still the same so the heads gonna be on a ball joint I mean
10:38even though he does have the party in the back the longer longer mohawk of the
10:42longer mullets the head does rotate all the way around although you're gonna
10:46struggle a little bit more doing that the head looks down only by that far it
10:49looks up and also moves back and forth even looks good really from the side
10:53there too I mean that's a good-looking Superman if they haven't already
10:57considered doing this and I know we already got this other it was like a
11:00green colored Superman like a Kryptonian Superman it's gonna come to me come to
11:04me I'll talk maybe more about that at the end of the final looks the final
11:08figure so anyways the head sculpt definitely needs to be used for another
11:11figure down the road that's what I was trying to get at saying the arms do come
11:16out 90 degrees you can take the arms and rotate them yes all the way around on
11:18both sides the figure does have a swivel in his bicep no but what he does have
11:23those a swivel in his elbow that does all the work for it has a single hinge
11:27only in his elbow the hands do rotate all the way around Superman does have an
11:31upper torso bulge right the figure does also have an abdomen bulge right so it
11:35allows a full rotation there as well the trunks are still softer plastic but
11:39the quote figure diaper doesn't look as bad here in soup may have also something
11:43to do with the fact his body is just so big the legs do split out about that far
11:46you can take the legs and move forward you can move them back there's a swivel
11:50at the top of the thigh a double hinge on the knee unlike the elbow there's no
11:53articulation here for the boots and then there's articulation in the ankle back
11:57and forth and a toe articulation as well it's a good-looking Superman it's a good
12:02Superman also that it's gonna look good on the shelf along with crypto whether
12:05you decide to display the Superman I probably would say ill-advised maybe
12:08display the Superman with other Superman because those other Superman like the
12:11action comics Superman may feel a little inferior very similar style of heads but
12:17again I really would love to see this head sculpt be used again not
12:20necessarily with the proportions that they opted to go with when it came to
12:22the return of Superman but I'm sure the head sculpt doesn't have to be
12:26necessarily dedicated to this particular body why not use that body again use that
12:31head again give it for example with like the black suit Superman which again
12:34like you have sort of a standby in the meantime like I haven't I should have
12:38really brought that figure with me and tried I'm sure it probably would have
12:41used a different bulge on I'm sure I'm convinced that they probably would have
12:46used the very similar style of bulge right where you could swap the heads out
12:49if you wanted to that will of course take a little bit of persuasion take a
12:52little bit of heat to heat the the neck but I might just see if I can do that
12:55the only other alternative is just to wait it out and hopefully hope that down
12:59the road McFarlane toys will release this guy again not necessarily in the
13:03repaint that we've already gone which again I think was like a green skin
13:06version of this Superman but in fact a regenerative black suit Superman
13:10something that I I don't know if I can speak for all collectors but myself at
13:13least one that it would certainly be waited to get in as part of my
13:16collection while we are talking about returning Superman this mold in fact
13:20returned again and a platinum edition 2-pack that brought back Superman and
13:23crypto though all in glowing green skin not a set I was all that interested in
13:28and it still didn't have the American flag I don't know why I kept thinking
13:30that one of these molds got released with an American flag it still though
13:33had the podium stand and it still had the trading card but with the glowing
13:37green skin for Superman and a glowing green crypto I really wasn't all that
13:41interested in getting it this speaking though of also returns not Superman
13:45returns but actually Dark Knight returns this mold of Superman in fact was used
13:49for Superman from the Dark Knight returns line a similar build and
13:53similar body although that version of Superman had slightly darker blues so
13:58it's not really the first time we've gotten this mold and I'm sure it's not
14:00the last time either the mold is big but to be fair though it works with this
14:04particular head sculpt for Superman I don't know if I would want every single
14:08soups from this day on being released in this body it has to be one of those
14:12bodies to get used very sparingly use it for only certain examples it works maybe
14:17for Superman returns here but I don't know if I would want to ever see it
14:20again with another Superman release the body is built big to be fair but the
14:24head sculpt is really good on this one I think that's one of the things that
14:27maybe changes my perception of this because generally though looking at this
14:30I think it's just too big of a frame for Superman and yet it works really well
14:34with the mullet head sculpt speaking though of working well with that head
14:38sculpt man I would love to see that head get used again with either a black suit
14:41regenerative suit Superman or again I'm even tempted to try to yank that head
14:46off the neck and maybe put it on another Superman body we did get though a black
14:50suit Superman although it's not a regenerative suit Superman we did get a
14:53black one that was released with a beard I might just decide I don't know if I
14:57really want to start destroying figures but maybe taking the head off this one
15:00putting it on the black suit for at least right now so we have a regenerative
15:03suit until McFarlane toys picks up the paces what do you guys think of this
