00:00Percy is a little green engine who can shunt and pull.
00:07He pulls both passengers and freight.
00:15At the docks.
00:20And at the quarry.
00:26Percy's favourite job is carrying the mail.
00:31But sometimes Percy has so much to do, he ends up running late.
00:43That evening, Percy arrived late at Brendam Docks.
00:48You're late again, Percy, said the dock manager.
00:52I will have to speak to the Fat Controller.
00:54Percy was upset.
00:58Percy returned to Tidmouth Sheds.
01:02The other engines were already asleep.
01:05Then, Percy heard voices on the other side of the sheds.
01:09It was the Fat Controller, and he was talking to Percy's driver.
01:16Percy tried not to listen, but he couldn't help himself.
01:20Percy has been late too often this week, said the Fat Controller.
01:25He must go to the scrapyards tomorrow.
01:28The Fat Controller wants to scrap me, gasped Percy.
01:32Percy worried all night long.
01:38The next morning, the sun shone and the birds sang.
01:42But Percy was too upset to notice.
01:45The Fat Controller wants to scrap me, he cried.
01:49And all because I was late.
01:51The Fat Controller wouldn't scrap a really useful engine, said Thomas.
01:56And you, Percy, are a really useful engine.
02:00Percy felt better until he noticed the time.
02:04I'm going to be late, he cried.
02:07Percy wheeshed away.
02:10If he was on time, maybe the Fat Controller wouldn't send him to the scrapyards.
02:17Percy's first job was collecting pipes from Brendam Docks.
02:22But when he arrived, Cranky was still unloading.
02:26Hurry up, slow coach, wheeshed Percy.
02:29I must be on time.
02:31I'll take as long as I like, said Cranky, and he went slower than ever.
02:40The moment Cranky had finished, Percy took off.
02:45He hadn't waited for the pipes to be tied down.
02:53Percy rounded the bend.
02:55The pipes slipped and fell all over the track.
02:59But Percy puffed on.
03:08Percy thought he'd delivered the pipes, so he chuffed away to his next job.
03:16Percy was to take some tar wagons to the workmen mending the roads.
03:23Be careful, said his driver, tar is sticky stuff.
03:28But Percy wasn't being careful.
03:31He was going too fast.
03:34Percy charged down Gordon's Hill.
03:38He didn't see Gordon and the express until it was too late.
03:42The brake van passed Gordon.
03:46But the tar wagons didn't.
03:58Luckily, no one was hurt.
04:00But Gordon was very cross.
04:03Now look what you've done, he wheeshed.
04:06What will the fat controller say?
04:09Percy thought he knew.
04:11Oh no, he cried.
04:13I'm sure to be scrapped now.
04:16And so Percy decided to run away.
04:24Harvey was clearing away the tar wagons,
04:27when the fat controller arrived aboard Thomas.
04:31Where is Percy? he said.
04:33He has caused confusion and delay.
04:36Gordon didn't know.
04:38He just left very quickly, sir.
04:41He heard you at the shed, sir, said Thomas.
04:45He thought you were sending him to be scrapped.
04:48I think I need a word with Percy, said the fat controller.
04:53You must all help me find him.
04:56And so everyone looked for Percy.
04:59They searched high and they searched low.
05:03They looked to and fro, but they couldn't see Percy anywhere.
05:09What's to become of me? Percy whispered.
05:13But there was no one around to hear.
05:16Percy looked very small and felt very lonely.
05:22Thomas and the fat controller were looking for Percy on Thomas's branch line.
05:27Thomas suddenly had an idea.
05:30I think I know where Percy is, sir.
05:33And he puffed back to Tidmouth's sheds as fast as he could.
05:42The sheds were very quiet as Thomas rolled into the engine berth.
05:49Percy, called the fat controller, are you there?
05:53Please don't scrap me, sir, he said.
05:56I didn't mean to be late or cause trouble.
05:59Scrap you? Boomed the fat controller. Why, the very thought of it!
06:04And the fat controller told Percy what he had really said.
06:09I told your driver that you had been working too hard and that was why you were late.
06:15I had decided after taking some scrap to the smelters that you were to carry the mail all week.
06:23Percy was as happy as he had ever been.
06:26Do you really mean it, sir? Puffed Percy proudly.
06:29The mail? For a whole week? Thank you, sir.
06:32Percy couldn't stop himself tooting for joy.
06:36Thomas tooted too. It was good to have his friend back.
06:41So Percy carried the mail all week.
06:44He wasn't late and he didn't make a mistake.
06:47Not one.
06:48And Percy decided never to listen to silly stories ever again.
06:53Especially not ones made up by himself.
