00:14 I'm the creative director of Marni.

00:17 And today I'm dressing Nicki Minaj.

00:22 So this dress is, I mean it's very exuberant, I would say.

00:28 Initially we have constructed a duchess vase on her body

00:33 and then we have injected all these metal flowers

00:40 made out of tin cans.

00:42 We started working with the materials

00:45 that we had in the studio and somehow tin cans were there.

00:50 And then recutting them into flowers and painting them

00:53 was an interesting experience.

00:57 It delivers a different perception than just like

01:02 a fabric flower or a fake flower or a real flower.

01:06 It makes it a bit more aggressive, I would say.

01:09 And then the dress have been painted heavily.

01:13 So there's a lot of texture coming out.

01:15 I like the idea that we could explore

01:20 something that to me is very recognizable of Nicki's look

01:24 which is her bang and very straight hair.

01:27 But maybe this time into a ponytail.

01:30 Her music, her persona is so exuberant

01:35 and so out there and so expressive.

01:38 Little by little we started bouncing back

01:41 thoughts towards each other.

01:44 I like when it has a pop of me,

01:47 something that feels familiar but also when it feels new

01:51 as well, like something that I haven't done before.

01:54 She loved the idea of yellow

01:56 and then I sent back some trials of paint

02:00 and then she wanted more colors and we added the flowers.

02:04 So it was really a back and forth of feelings,

02:09 emotions and a lot of fun.

02:11 - I typically come to my ideas with looks is

02:17 I like to know what a client is wearing first

02:19 so that I can get a vision.

02:21 And typically once I see that,

02:23 I know what the hair looks like.

02:25 I can visualize, it just comes to me,

02:27 like oh okay, I see it.

02:29 So it's just sometimes it's in my head.

02:31 We have inspo pictures so you wanna go off of that

02:34 but add your little personal zhoosh to it as well.

02:37 So the statement piece that we're doing

02:39 for the makeup today is with Fenty Beauty's liquid kilowatt

02:44 and we want the eyes to be bold but simple,

02:48 just very bronzy and glowy.

02:51 So it's just really the eye is just the statement piece

02:54 for the makeup, everything else would be more simplicity.

02:57 - What makes me like it is that everyone worked together

03:03 to complement the other thing.

03:06 - What's really beautiful about this Met Gala

03:10 is each of these pieces can exist one time

03:15 for the person that we are making it for.

03:18 That's to me the most profound, interesting aspect

03:22 of Sleeping Beauties.

03:24 It's objects that are one of a kind

03:28 and that can exist one time in life

03:31 and this is for me such an exciting journey

03:36 as making fashion is not just about producing

03:41 a big amount of clothes but also interacting

03:45 with incredible people like Nikki

03:48 and allowing our hand to combine with her expression.
