00:10We are coming from the Vogue offices where we just talked a bit about shooting the cover
00:14with Mark and Steven and now we are on our way to Ginsoon, my favorite nail salon in
00:19New York, to get pedicures and I'm meeting a friend but it's a surprise.
00:27Oh, books. It's either one of two things if I get distracted, books or dogs. Oh, we're here.
00:38My friend that I'm with needs no introduction, the one and only Mark Jacobs.
00:43Hi. This is like old school acrylic. I mean, I love to fuck with gender. I don't think
00:48there are a lot of young men or men running around with nails like this.
00:52The sound of them, we've all been talking about. It's like, I want to go to sleep to
00:57that sound. It's so nice. I can't sit still for two hours in a movie.
01:02But I can sit still for eight hours. Really? The first time we met, I think it was on Mark
01:08Jacobs Beauty. Yeah, I think so. That was the first, right? Because that was before Daisy.
01:12We showed up at the studio, wherever the photo studio was, and Cindy was there with you.
01:18Oh, yeah. My mom wanted to bring me to work. I couldn't even travel alone. I know. I know.
01:23You were quite young and Cindy brought you in. People have always said that, like, they
01:27see my mom and they go, oh, is it about to be stage mom? And she couldn't have been...
01:31Less. She wasn't living vicariously through me. She was like, I've done it. Enjoy it.
01:35I guess there were a lot of people requesting to work with you and do things with you. And
01:40I think, you know, she had her reservations about a young woman doing a beauty campaign.
01:44And she said, like, I just really don't want this to not look young. And I thought that
01:48was, you know, really true to her and very cool. And then I did two shows. And you said
01:53on RuPaul, what... The RuPaul episode that I guest judged was like Neo Gaw and Nymphia
01:59Wynne, who I'm such a fan of, had her face covered and looked so beautiful. And one of
02:04the critiques was, you know, you shouldn't cover your face. And I was like, I don't know
02:08because I walked to Mark Jacobs Runway or two where my face is covered. And it doesn't
02:12matter because it's fashion, darling.
02:14I love that you said it. I wasn't expecting it. And I was watching that episode and I
02:18was like, yep, there.
02:19And it was like this third show I did for you at the Armory where I had this big hat.
02:24And it was one of my favorites. So I was also like, I don't have to think about what my
02:27face looks like right now. But the clothes, I loved the clothes for that show.
02:31There's so many people in that show. Like Hunter was in that show. There are a lot of
02:35people who...
02:36It's true for a lot of your shows. That's what I love. And the thing is like now, you
02:40know when someone does a show, like you have social media and things, so you know when
02:43someone's there. But I love not being recognizable in a show. It's really fun.
02:47Well, I give you that opportunity.
02:49You do. And that's why I love working for you.
02:51So what made you think of Kaya for the coworkers?
02:54Clearly the Kaya story is the best.
02:56Stop. The other, the better models weren't available.
03:00Oh, please. It was the first and it was just, it was just the most incredible day. It was
03:07just like everything I loved and being with Stephen, being with Kaya, being with Pat and
03:11Guido and Grace. It was just like, again, one of those days that's very few and far
03:16between for me. And when I get them, I just realize why I love doing this. Like what I
03:21do, you know.
03:22And then you also have Anna Weyant doing...
03:25Yeah. Oh my God. Have you seen it?
03:27I saw. Oh my gosh.
03:29Did you see it finished?
03:30No.
03:31Okay. I didn't either. I was lucky enough to get a painting from her last show here
03:34in New York and she had posted a pot and I was like, oh my God, that pot is amazing.
03:41Is there any way you can put in a good word with Larry Gagosian? I want that pot. And
03:45she said, well, put in a good word, but that one pot is really a part of three pots. So
03:49I should send you the whole painting before. But then when I saw the three pots, I was
03:53like, what's better than one pot?
03:54Three.
03:55What have you got coming up?
03:56Well, I was just at TIFF for this movie about Saturday Night Live that I am in.
04:03A movie about Saturday Night Live?
04:05Yeah, it's about the first, the making of the first episode. It's like the hour and
04:09a half leading up to when they first went live. And then it was this massive success
04:12that still goes on.
04:14Are we saying bye?

04:30And I was like, it should be both of us. I was like, you've had your boat covers while
04:33I'm like, it's okay. So tonight we're doing a reading with Library Science and the Chelsea
04:40Hotel. When I moved to New York, I read Just Kids, which is I feel like required reading
04:44for any young person, especially if you're moving to New York and you're a creative or
04:48an artist. So I just glorified Hotel Chelsea so much. It's like there's so many incredible
04:54people that have lived here. I have this like huge document on my phone that's like pages
04:58long of people that have lived here. I feel like I could spend days here just like going
05:01to all the different apartments. The stories here are just like the coolest. So when we
05:06started doing these in-person readings, I thought the Chelsea Hotel would be the perfect
05:10place to do one. The only rule that I gave to readers was it has to be a piece written
05:17by someone who was at one moment in their life a resident. I'm reading a piece, I have
05:21friends coming. I have this incredible guitarist who is a resident here playing on a guitar
05:28that's made out of wood from the renovations they just did. And then a lot of residents
05:33are coming down from their homes, which they have so kindly welcomed us into. And I hope
05:38that they don't feel invaded by us. And it's really just a celebration of them and their
05:43life and their art. I'm still kind of in between what I'm going to read. I haven't decided.
05:48It might be a game time decision. I've always been very drawn to correspondences. So letters
05:53between people. And that's why I gravitated towards the letter that Patty wrote Robert.
06:00But there are letters that Leonard Cohen wrote to Marianne, his longtime muse. The ones that
06:06I also might read are also towards the end of her life and his goodbyes to her. But they're
06:11like celebrations of life.
06:19I'm doing a play in L.A., which I'm really excited about. It's my friend Will Arbery's
06:25play. Being able to rehearse as much as you do with a play in a small space that's like
06:29really safe and kind of the safety to fail is something that I haven't felt very much
06:36in my life. I hope I get to act for as long as I'm breathing. It doesn't feel like a job
06:42to me. I feel so lucky that I get to do that and make believe and play pretend for my job.
06:50I don't even call it a job because it's really so fun. That's what I was doing as a kid for
06:55fun. And even if there's absolutely no money involved, I would still be doing it.
