00:00 On Wednesday, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. visited the US to attend the first Trilateral Summit of the Philippines, US and Japan.
00:12 What are the benefits and benefits of this trip? Let's find out in the words of Alan Francisco.
00:23 The development of economy and technology, climate change and clean energy, security and peace in the Indo-Pacific region.
00:33 These are just some of the things that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., US President Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida are hoping to discuss
00:43 in Washington, D.C. on April 11. This is the first Trilateral Summit between the Philippines, US and Japan.
00:50 According to DFA Acting Deputy Undersecretary Hans Mohaimin Siriban, the three leaders will discuss the aspirations for the region,
00:59 including the opportunities that will arise in the relations of the three countries.
01:03 This Trilateral Summit is significant to help further promote dialogue and peace in the region. These are countries that share the Philippines' goal of promoting an international rules-based order and to promote peace and stability in the region.
01:32 The Joint Vision Statement will also be issued at the summit, which will be a guide to their agenda.
01:37 The media is asking if there will be a more coherent statement from the three countries following the tensions in the West Philippine Sea. The DFA official answered,
01:46 "Yes, I think we can expect a discussion on the recent incidents. Of course, the Joint Vision Statement is still under discussion, but we can expect an alignment of views among the three countries on the recent incidents in the West Philippine Sea.
02:10 We will note the recent incidents and our three leaders are expected to include this in their discussions and in the Vision Statement."
02:28 Siriban clarified that the trilateral cooperation is not directly to any country.
02:33 I think for us, the important thing is we are open to our lines of communication, our lines of dialogue and consultations have always been open.
02:48 So this applies to all the countries in the region. So in fact, we have continuing dialogues with our neighbors and this trilateral summit is one of those dialogues and consultations that we have.
03:11 The peaceful solution to territorial disputes will also be discussed at the summit.
03:15 I think it says that we stand for the preservation of the international rules order, rules-based order.
03:29 For us, the Philippines, our position has always been based on UNCLOS and the arbitral tribunal ruling.
03:44 We appreciate the support that Japan and the United States and many other countries have shown for our position.
03:56 President Marcos is also expected to review the first separate arrests of Biden and Kishida.
04:02 A number of the activities that we are looking at for the trilateral cooperation have their beginnings in bilateral cooperation.
04:14 So we are looking at avenues where we can expand existing bilateral cooperation to find synergies in a trilateral context.
04:29 On Wednesday, April 10, President Marcos will fly to America for the trilateral summit.
