00:09 requested the foreign ministry to bring
00:10 the truth about the transparency of the Venezuelan electoral
00:13 system to the world.
00:14 Peru's national congress denied the two motions
00:19 demanding the impeachment of President Dino Boluarte.
00:22 And in Palestine, medical staff in Gaza
00:27 denounced that several Palestinian children
00:29 are being admitted with bullet wounds caused
00:31 by Israeli snipers.
00:32 Hello, welcome to From the South.
00:38 I'm Luis Alberto Matos from the Lesus Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:42 We begin with the news.
00:43 The National Electoral Council of Venezuela
00:45 requested the foreign ministry to bring
00:46 the truth about the transparency of the Venezuelan electoral
00:49 system to the world.
00:51 The president of the electoral council, Elvis Amoroso,
00:53 held on Thursday a meeting with the Venezuelan foreign minister
00:56 Ivan Hill to discuss the development
00:58 of the electoral process and the presidential elections
01:01 of next July 28, 2024.
01:03 During the meeting, Amoroso pointed out
01:05 that the doors of the country are
01:06 open for international observers,
01:09 but it would not allow them to interfere
01:11 in the actions of the CNE and the electoral process.
01:14 For his part, foreign minister Ivan Hill
01:16 emphasized that invitations were sent
01:18 to more than 67 electoral organizations,
01:20 as well as to a series of personalities.
01:23 The diplomat also reiterated that the country
01:25 has a reliable electoral system of which the Venezuelan people
01:28 can be proud.
01:29 And it is important for you to be
01:37 the spokesperson of this power in order
01:40 to clarify to any institution or any country that has doubts.
01:43 We have the doors of the National Electoral Council.
01:46 Of the electoral power, open for all
01:57 those who want to come to Venezuela
02:00 and for all those who want information.
02:02 Before issuing any false statement,
02:04 we recommend you to come here.
02:06 And we will show you what each one of the candidates
02:19 representing different political parties did.
02:22 That is the normal procedure.
02:24 That is really being serious.
02:25 And we ask you, foreign minister,
02:27 to be the spokesperson for all this information.
02:32 Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ivan Hill
02:33 highlighted the positive results of the electoral power
02:36 regarding the international accompaniment
02:38 of the electoral process.
02:39 The last accompaniment was precisely
02:45 in the election of governors and mayors in the year 2021.
02:49 And the reports we received were extremely positive.
02:53 We have always had recommendations.
02:55 The CNE has always assumed a proactive role
03:02 to improve itself more and more in a system that
03:05 is almost perfect because it listens first to the people
03:14 and also the international monitoring and supervision.
03:17 The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry has also
03:19 made an effort to inform the world
03:22 through the diplomatic representatives
03:24 accredited in Caracas.
03:27 Likewise, the Venezuelan Foreign Minister
03:29 pointed out that the joint accompaniment
03:31 with the electoral power allows showing
03:32 the world the strength of the Venezuelan electoral system.
03:35 We also feel very excited to be able to begin
03:41 this accompaniment in this interaction
03:43 with the electoral power that, as I repeat,
03:49 allows us to proudly show ourselves to the world
03:53 as a state with a strong electoral power,
03:55 an electoral power that reflects precisely
03:58 the will of the Venezuelan people
04:03 and that on July 28 will deliver to us precisely
04:07 that result, that value, that decision of the people.
04:12 In Venezuela, the government rejected the recent declarations
04:15 of Guyana regarding the law for the defense of Guayana
04:18 Ezequieva enacted by the executive branch.
04:20 In an official statement, the government of Venezuela
04:22 fully and categorically rejects the communique issued
04:25 on April 3, 2024 by the government of Guyana
04:28 on the enactment of the Organic Law for the Defense of Guayana
04:31 Ezequieva.
04:32 It also stressed that the approval of the Affirmation Law
04:34 is a sovereign act, which is the sole responsibility
04:37 of Venezuelans, and its objective
04:39 is to defend and preserve the unquestionable rights
04:42 of Venezuela over the territory of Guayana Ezequieva.
04:45 Likewise, it assured that Venezuela reiterates
04:47 that it does not recognize the judicial mechanism as a means
04:51 of resolving the territorial dispute with Guyana
04:54 as it excludes the nature and purpose of the Geneva Agreement
04:58 and it denounces this dangerous maneuver designed by Exxon Mobil.
05:01 Peru's National Congress denied the two motions
05:10 demanding the impeachment of President Dina Boluarte.
05:12 The Peruvian Parliament, without any opportunity for debate,
05:16 rejected the impeachment motions against Boluarte
05:18 for the so-called "Rolex" case.
05:20 Boluarte is accused of alleged illicit enrichment,
05:22 along with other crimes.
05:24 The first motion, presented accusing the president
05:26 of permanent moral incapacity, was rejected with 49 votes
05:29 against and 33 in favor.
05:31 The second motion, mentioning signs of alleged corruption
05:34 on the part of Boluarte, with jury worth $500,000,
05:38 was denied with 59 votes against and 32 in favor.
05:42 During the second edition of his program on social media,
05:49 Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel provided an update
05:51 on the regulated family food basket
05:53 and the government's efforts to guarantee,
05:56 in spite of the strengthening of the U.S. blockade.
05:58 In the end, the products of the basket,
06:03 the situation with these products, their quantities,
06:05 all these issues have always been the same.
06:08 And until a few months ago, we guaranteed the baskets
06:11 on a regular basis.
06:13 And at the end of the month, we always
06:14 had the complete baskets in the stores, and we distributed.
06:18 What are the reasons why we are having
06:20 this situation of incomplete baskets and delays?
06:23 Because once more, the strengthening of the blockade
06:26 comes up, which is real.
06:28 And at this very moment, the strengthening of the blockade
06:30 is affecting us in two main sectors-- the energy sector,
06:34 which is limiting us greatly because
06:36 of the financial persecution.
06:38 And every time we denounce that energy persecution,
06:41 the politicians of the United States government
06:43 say it is not true and that we are making it up.
06:46 And it is getting increasingly difficult for us
06:49 to guarantee that the fuel we need arrives in the country.
06:53 The Cuban head of state reiterated
06:54 the fuel shortage in the country caused by the U.S. blockade
06:57 against the Caribbean island complicates the distribution
06:59 of the basic food basket.
07:03 Therefore, the fuel issue, what we
07:05 are suffering due to the lack of fuel because of the blockade,
07:08 has been one of the main issues of the current situation
07:11 we are passing through.
07:13 And the other problem is the lack
07:14 of financing, which also has to do with the intensification
07:18 of the blockade.
07:19 And it is a titanic task for us today
07:21 to look for $230 million every month
07:25 to guarantee the basic food basket, the products of the food
07:28 basket that we have to distribute,
07:30 and we have to make that clear.
07:33 The Cuban president also pointed out
07:35 that U.S. policies against the island
07:36 seek to stifle the Cuban economy.
07:38 The distribution of the basic food basket
07:44 is one of the things in which every day, every hour,
07:47 every moment, there are constant checkups.
07:49 There are constant efforts to find ways
07:55 to overcome all these difficulties.
07:57 But it has to do with this aggressive, genocidal policy
08:00 with which we are being condemned for our desire
08:03 to maintain our sovereignty and independence.
08:05 [SPEAKING SPANISH]
08:08 As a country with self-determination,
08:10 which is part of this strategy of economic asphyxiation
08:14 supplemented on other occasions by media intoxication.
08:16 On Thursday, April 4, we remember the assassination
08:22 of Martin Luther King Jr., the prominent United States pastor
08:25 and civil rights activist, who was fatally shot in 1968
08:28 at the age of 39.
08:30 Before being assassinated by James Earl Ray,
08:32 he had been closely watched for decades
08:34 by the FBI, which had labeled him as the most dangerous man
08:38 in the country.
08:39 From a child, Martin Luther King demonstrated
08:41 deep religious faith and great gift for oratory and debate.
08:44 He suffered racial segregation in person at age 13,
08:47 when he had to give up his seat on a bus to a white passenger
08:50 for the sole reason that he was black.
08:53 From then on, he set out to fight for equal rights
08:55 for blacks and whites.
08:56 On October 14 of 1964, he received the Nobel Peace Prize.
09:01 After this recognition, the objective of his fight
09:04 expanded, protesting also against poverty
09:06 and the Vietnam War.

11:55 Palestinians from Gaza are abducted for 60 days
12:05 at the Nasser Hospital in Hanounis

12:13 I was with my hands tied 24 hours a day for 60 days
12:16 and with my eyes covered, 60 days where I could not
12:19 see anything, like an Israeli dog.
12:24 Not even to go to the bathroom was I allowed to see.
12:27 Look at me, how I look after 60 days without shaving.
12:30 The food was a small piece of cheese in the mornings
12:33 and in the evenings.
12:33 60 days and nothing changed.

12:43 They brought them back and forth to torture and beat them.
12:47 Palestinian hostages in Gaza denounced
12:48 that during interrogations, the Israeli occupation forces

12:55 They asked for everything you could possibly know.
13:01 Who is your brother?
13:02 Who is your neighbor?
13:03 Do you know so-and-so?
13:05 They had an open computer, and from there, they
13:06 would get information.
13:07 For them, everybody was the same.
13:12 Guilty or not, who gave information and who didn't.
13:16 Everybody was mistreated the same.
13:18 They made up charges and sentences
13:20 that if you belong to a movement, they sentence you.
13:22 That if you knew someone from Hamas, they charged you.
13:29 I was interrogated by the intelligence agency.
13:31 I have reached an age that I don't care
13:33 what they're going to do to me.
13:34 They bombed my son's house.

14:57 the capture of a Russian citizen and two foreigners

15:38 and one count of money laundering.
15:41 Mapisa Kakula maintained her innocence
15:43 and suggested the charges against her
15:45 were politically motivated, with the country
15:47 set to hold national elections later this year.
15:50 The developments followed weeks of controversy
15:51 over allegations that Mapisa Kakula received
15:54 relevant cash payments from a defense contractor
15:57 when she was Minister of Defense between 2016 and 2019.
16:00 She was released on a $2,670 bail,

16:10 Senegal marked on Thursday, April 4,
16:18 the 64th anniversary of its independence from France.
16:21 The newly inaugurated President, Ambassador Diomaye Faya,
16:24 attended the ceremony in Dakar.
16:26 According to the state news agency APS,
16:28 this year's celebrations were reduced to a flag-raising
16:31 ceremony because of the uncertainty which prevailed
16:34 ahead of the March 24 presidential poll.
16:37 Usually, Independence Day is celebrated
16:38 with a civil military parade in the vicinity
16:40 of one of Senegal's most emblematic squares,
16:43 Dakar's Nation Square.
16:44 This year's edition is under the theme "Armed Forces
16:47 at the Heart of National Cohesion."
16:49 The celebration took place one day
16:51 after Faya's first address to the nation.

17:15 with the presence of French President Emmanuel Macron.
17:18 The centre's pool, which holds more than 5,500 cubic metres
17:21 of water, was initially filled in mid-December 2023.

18:19 Sakura season traditionally accompanies
18:21 the beginning of the new fiscal year in Japan,
18:23 representing fresh starts but also
18:25 the fleeting impermanence of life.
18:28 The Japanese Meteorological Agency
18:30 declared on Thursday that the country's most common
