00:00 Hey, look who just got shipped via Spacebridge, but man, those Energon fees were outrageous.
00:05 Here's your look at the new Super 7 Transformers Ultimates Megatron.
00:10 (intro)
00:16 (unboxing)
00:41 Peace through tyranny booms Megatron's voice as the undisputed villain of the Transformers universe.
00:47 His rule is for good reason. Between his tremendous strength military acumen and terror-inspiring ruthless aggression,
00:54 he has many finer qualities that make him reign supreme over the Decepticons.
00:58 This 8-inch, highly articulated Transformers Ultimates figure of Megatron features Generation 1 accurate paint deco
01:04 and interchangeable heads and hands. With an arsenal of other accessories,
01:08 this figure is every bit as well equipped as you'd expect the leader of the fearsome Decepticons to be.
01:13 Adding this Megatron Ultimates figure to your collection is as inevitable as the fear he instills in his foes.
01:19 Despite the wishes of Starscream, Megatron exists now as a Super 7 Ultimates figure.
01:25 And of course, while we are going ahead and measuring this off, I did actually find this one over on Entertainment Earth.
01:31 I'll provide the link down below if you guys have been collecting any of the Super 7 Transformer Ultimates figures
01:35 and haven't had a chance to get the leader of the Decepticons yet.
01:39 You can click the link down below. The link will also as well save you 10% on anything you see on their site
01:44 that's currently in stock. So you can save a little bit of money in the process.
01:48 If I was to say measure off to the very top, not of Megatron's head, but rather the barrel behind him,
01:53 that's the highest point of the figure after all, the figure is going to stand about 8 inches in height
01:58 or he's going to be about 20 centimeters tall.
02:01 I thought it would be a fun comparison. I would bring in other bad guys that Super 7 have made
02:05 that are all part of the evil bad guys alumni.
02:08 Here's what Megatron looks like with the G.I. Joe's Cobra Commander.
02:11 And here's as well what Megatron looks like with the Thundercats Mumra, the ever living.
02:16 Obviously, Megatron is going to be a lot taller than Cobra Commander,
02:19 but he's actually not that much different in size than Mumra.
02:22 And Mumra was a pretty big figure to start with.
02:25 Megatron does mark, in fact, the first Transformers Ultimates figure I picked up, having already passed on Prime.
02:30 There was something about Prime that just sort of seemed underwhelming to me.
02:33 But having now the leader of the Decepticons, I would feel a bit out of place on my collection shelf
02:38 if I didn't have then the leader of the Autobots.
02:40 So I might try to still track down the Prime.
02:42 And if I do, of course, track down Optimus Prime, I'll do a follow-up review,
02:45 showing, of course, that figure in a standalone review and I'll bring back in Megs.
02:49 Megatron, though, does come in clue with quite a lot of accessories.
02:51 And I will say, though, to the credit of Megatron, unlike Prime,
02:54 that sort of had weird things get packed along with them, like a surfboard and a basketball.
02:59 Fine and good, but I'm glad to see that Megatron kind of gets a little more cooler accessories.
03:03 The starting first with smallest of the accessories, the figure comes in clue with the Pearl of Bahudin.
03:08 The Pearl, I think, is a sphere which contains the power core of the Cybertronian weather controlling machine.
03:13 It's, I think, a one standalone episode reference, but a reference that was, I guess, pertinent enough
03:19 for Super 7 to decide to release a smaller version of this can be displayed along with Megatron.
03:23 I suppose he does have a hand to hold the Pearl of Bahudin.
03:27 It doesn't necessarily clip into his hand. It's sort of more as a case that's just resting on his palm instead.
03:33 I mean, again, it's again for one episode reference alone only.
03:38 I guess it's nice to see that they included that.
03:40 I probably would have maybe used the plastic for something else instead.
03:43 But again, you get the Pearl of Bahudin. We're going to put that to the side.
03:46 The figure as well comes in clue with tiny little Krimzik.
03:49 Since the days, it seems, of Transformers masterpiece figures, Krimzik has always seemed to go in tow with Megatron.
03:55 And we get a small little representation of Krimzik here with Megatron.
03:58 It's all been cast here in more of a translucent orange plastic, but you can see detailed on the front is both the eyes.
04:04 And so we're more of a jack-o'-lantern mouth. Really like the look of Krimzik.
04:08 I don't know if I really will be displaying him with Krimzik.
04:10 I suppose if anything, you probably could just have this resting on Megatron's shoulders, as he does have at least flat feet.
04:17 You can either display him there. Of course, he stands perfectly fine, really flat on his own.
04:21 Move him out of the way as well.
04:22 The figure as well comes in clue with a chemical flask.
04:25 The flask itself is translucent and clear plastic. You can see there's a purple liquid down below here.
04:31 For one reason or another, there's a little band across the top of it.
04:34 I'm not really sure whether that's specific to the way it was in an episode.
04:37 I think there was referencing to an episode that they would have included the flask.
04:40 But there's like a little kind of a coarser texturing that they put around it.
04:44 Maybe it may have something to do with the fact it's a little bit easier for Megatron to be able to hold the flask.
04:48 I mean, the hands themselves are pretty soft enough in plastic.
04:51 They can even then just even wedge the flask above to the top.
04:54 And he, I mean, he holds it fine.
04:56 I don't know necessarily why that had to be that little extra coarse bit on it.
05:00 But again, it could have a reference to more of the episode.
05:02 Move that to the side.
05:04 And then the figure also as well comes in clue with things more reference to the 80s movie.
05:08 First of all, he gets himself the blaster.
05:10 But I guess in the proper order, he gets thrown first against the wall and grabs himself this laser sword.
05:15 The laser then projects a beam out in red.
05:17 And then I think Megatron proceeds to slash the side of Optimus Prime's body.
05:22 And then even adding more further insult to injury, he then takes himself the blaster.
05:26 Before, of course, you're doing that.
05:28 The detail on this is nice.
05:30 The hilt, as you can see, does have spikes sticking out the sides.
05:32 Cast here in purple plastic with a lighter version of purple on the inside of the hilt.
05:36 And of course, you got yourself the projected beam here in a soft translucent red.
05:41 Like the look of that one.
05:43 But again, he also comes included as well with the blaster.
05:45 This is while he's holding Hot Rod.
05:47 And he's telling Optimus Prime to fall and continues to shoot.
05:50 Again, further insult to injury.
05:52 I think he continues to shoot the side of Optimus Prime's body until Megatron succeeds.
05:57 And Optimus Prime does in fact fall.
05:59 Cast again in that same purple plastic.
06:01 Same lighter violet purple has also been added here as well.
06:04 A nice little accompanying piece, the Megatron.
06:06 Strange that some of the other things that the figure comes in clue with.
06:10 I guess not so strange is the fact that the figure comes in clue with a mace.
06:13 Like with Optimus Prime, always come in clue with this Energon Axe.
06:16 Now Megatron always seems relegated to his energy ball and chain.
06:20 The chain itself, this version of it at least, is softer plastic but it doesn't have any bend to it.
06:25 I guess if you wanted to, you probably could heat this in hot water.
06:28 And then just bend it to the desired look that you want and then cool it if you wanted to have it more in a curved position.
06:32 If you wanted something though a little looser, then he's also got one that actually has connecting chains.
06:37 Individually linked, you can see that this one does actually have more of a weighted feel to it.
06:41 And if you wanted to have this more displayed with the figure and just sort of draped along the side of his body,
06:46 then this one would fit the bill a little bit better.
06:48 The balls are about the same.
06:50 Careful, careful where your mind is.
06:52 The balls are about the same. You can see the spikes are again about the same.
06:55 And the cast is still the same and like a translucent kind of reddish pink plastic.
07:00 Again, there's two different versions of that.
07:02 Either one of these, by the way, can be swapped out with Megatron's existing hands.
07:05 Just a case though of just removing the hands from the forearms.
07:08 And then take yourself the mace that you want to use, the ball and chain, which is going to attach that in place.
07:13 And again, there's the looser dropped one that has the individual links.
07:17 Again, rests nicely against the floor of Megatron's feet.
07:20 While Megatron is actually, you know what, I'm going to just only move these aside anyways.
07:25 We'll probably bring those back, I think, for final looks.
07:27 I'm going to put Megatron's hand back in place right now.
07:29 He also as well comes with some swappable hands, but I guess just before we actually do that.
07:34 The figure as well comes included with an energon cube that looks like Megatron has been drinking out of it.
07:40 It's partially filled, an ideal real candidate to be included with, say, a future Soundwave.
07:45 I really like the idea that it actually looks like it's liquid.
07:48 It's not real liquid. I wouldn't be able to tilt it back and forth or anything like that.
07:51 But it's also permanently attached to his hands, so there's really no way to remove that.
07:55 He does also technically come included with a mouth that looks like he has already been drinking, maybe a little too much, of the energon drink.
08:02 You can see, like, they've added these additional little pink marks down the side.
08:06 It actually kind of looks like he's a vampire.
08:08 I like the head sculpt. I don't know how much I really love the idea that they've added the pink to the sides.
08:13 I'm wondering if I can actually take myself a little bit of rubbing alcohol of a more diluted amount,
08:18 and maybe see if I can actually go in there and remove these.
08:21 Now, they don't necessarily look like they're sculpted onto his face,
08:24 but I would really like to remove them because I think I really like this head sculpt with a smile on his face
08:29 instead of more of the neutral expression that he has currently on his neck.
08:33 If you, though, prefer, Megatron also comes included with this head sculpt as well, which has the mind control helmet.
08:38 This mind control helmet is one that really reminds me of a birthday party I went to a long time ago
08:43 where my friend had rented Transformers on VHS. I think even back then, maybe it was beta.
08:49 No, no, he was privileged. He had VHS.
08:51 And it actually was the episode, I think it was a two-part episode, in fact, where Megatron has a mind controlling helmet.
08:56 Nicely sculpted. It's actually not that far different, really, than this one right here.
09:00 I would love if this could have been something that was removable,
09:03 which I would have just done away with the helmet and maybe just had the figure displayed with more of the smiling face.
09:07 But again, it looks to be the same case that they are using maybe the same head.
09:11 This one looks like it's a little bit shorter of a chin.
09:13 Okay, maybe it's not the exact same head sculpt, but there's that option available as well if you wanted to.
09:17 And then, of course, wrapping up the remaining things that come included with Megatron, he comes with some swappable hands.
09:22 More hands for holding, like, for example, the pearl, if you wanted to have him displayed with that.
09:27 He has those hands. You could probably, in a way, use these as well for just regular expression hands
09:32 without having to really commit to any idea of having the figure holding something.
09:36 But if you did want to have him holding things, then the figure also comes included with some gripping hands as well.
09:40 Equally well sculpted and cast here in a more darker gunmetal grey.
09:44 Again, we've already seen how well it is to swap out the hands.
09:47 Again, you just simply just pop the hand and remove them from the form.
09:50 And then you go ahead and just replace the hand that you want to then use.
09:53 Hands, by the way, do have a swivel back and forth as well.
09:56 So there's a little bit of poseability at play here.
09:58 And again, like, if you want to take yourself, for example, the blaster, the blaster then just fits into his hand.
10:03 And he can start blasting away at Optimus Prime.
10:05 The blaster itself, again, fits fairly well.
10:08 You just kind of have to get it around his hand, for example.
10:10 And then, like I said, Megatron can then have the hand displayed with the blaster.
10:14 You may have already noticed the fact that he does also have his cannon.
10:17 That is something that is removable.
10:19 It attaches via the rectangular peg that's provided on the bottom of it.
10:22 If you look to the side of the figure, he actually does have just a shaped peg that matches the same.
10:27 And you just attach the two together.
10:29 The thing obviously already be stated is the fact that it does add a lot of weight to Megatron's arms.
10:33 Let's just go ahead and take this out of his hand for right now.
10:36 It does add some weight to Megatron's arms.
10:39 So like if, for example, you wanted to, I just dropped the cannon.
10:42 Let's, I'm going to have to go and retrieve that in a second.
10:44 Can I, can I reach it? Can I reach it? Hold on one second.
10:48 As I was saying, though, if you do take yourself the cannon and attach it onto the top of his forearm,
10:53 it does add a lot of weight to Megatron's arms.
10:56 It may not be the case where you will always be able to hold this in this pose,
11:00 because I've already noticed with a few little hours that I've actually had this figure out of his packaging,
11:05 that his arm is already loose.
11:06 His arm is loose and his legs are loose.
11:08 So again, I don't know the longevity of having him always in this pose,
11:12 unless you found a way to go in there and tighten up the joints,
11:14 maybe a little bit of floor polish, for example.
11:16 But he does have the means again to have his cannon attached onto the end of his arm.
11:20 And again, if you guys wanted to see as well what his head sculpt looked like,
11:23 because we will be changing at the head in a moment.
11:25 Again, you get a more stoic look for Megatron, which fits, fits the part fine for Megatron.
11:30 But honestly, though, I really like this head sculpt, I think, a little bit more,
11:33 with just a more smiling face.
11:35 The top of the head, really from like the nose up, looks to be exactly the same.
11:39 It really, again, is the expression in the mouth that varies the one head sculpt from the other.
11:43 If only, though, I could go in there and add a little bit of something to remove again that paint.
11:47 Because I really, again, would love to have the figure displayed with this head sculpt instead of this one here.
11:52 Changing out the heads is just a case of popping off the head that's already there.
11:55 It might help maybe just easier to remove the head, put the head down here for a second.
11:59 Let's just pop the head right off the ball peg, and then replace it with then the smiling face.
12:04 Maybe you can kind of see what I mean.
12:06 It does add a little more personality, some could certainly say.
12:09 Again, I just, I don't know if I like really the fact it does have...
12:12 I mean, it's fine and good if you wanted to have the figure displayed, say, with the Energon Cube,
12:15 but if you don't decide to have the figure displayed with the Energon Cube,
12:19 I think it just draws more attention to the fact that something seems off with Megatron's face.
12:23 Let's see if I can maybe remove that.
12:25 One also feature I did want to mention as well with Megatron is he does have a hidden feature.
12:29 Not necessarily a case where he's storing a Matrix of Leadership,
12:32 but rather, though, you can actually open this up as well.
12:36 And inside he has the anti-matter chest.
12:40 It's just a case that they've added some sort of translucent or chromium sort of stickers on the inside.
12:45 It kind of gives him sort of windshields on the front of a truck, say, for Optimus Prime.
12:49 The only unfortunate thing by doing this and adding this is this never really stays properly in place.
12:54 It doesn't necessarily tab in place.
12:56 I kind of wish that there were like pegs on the insides of it,
12:58 and maybe, say, matching holes on the tops of it where this could properly snap in place.
13:02 But I always feel like even as I'm moving the figure,
13:05 I always find myself accidentally pulling down the panel on the front of his chest.
13:09 It does have, of course, the Decepticon logo featured very predominantly on the chest.
13:13 He is the leader, after all.
13:14 The other thing I will say, though, about the figure is the stature and size of him.
13:18 He seems a little off-proportioned.
13:19 This is fine. I like the way that they did the top of the torso here.
13:23 But sort of like this section right here, I feel like his abdomen isn't wide enough or isn't long enough.
13:28 It does have at least a smart use, as they've incorporated some additional torso crunch.
13:33 You can actually crunch and move the torso up and down.
13:36 It also does rotate there also as well.
13:38 The sacrifice it has to unfortunately make is that I feel like this part isn't long enough.
13:42 It just would be a little bit longer, I feel, in my eyes at least.
13:45 But the detailing and the color scheme for Megatron matches that, of course,
13:48 of what he would have had in the original cartoon.
13:50 I'm going to spin this around so you can see it on the back.
13:52 There's the cannon piece, of course, that's on the back of the figure's body.
13:54 Not removable, so don't try to force this off or anything like that.
13:57 The colors of the red are nicely done.
13:59 I did want to say, though, when it came to the pegs, his arms were really tight.
14:03 His shoulders weren't necessarily the case, but his elbows were something I had to heat with hot water.
14:08 I just submerged a little bit in hot water, just enough to soften up the joints.
14:11 I don't know if there was just a paint buildup at all, a little bit in there,
14:14 but eventually I was able to bend the elbows.
14:16 If there is a little bit of resistance, don't force it for the risk that there's potentially a breakage
14:20 that may happen to that joint.
14:22 But all in all, though, again, like head to toe, again, he's got those big clunky boots on the bottom there as well,
14:26 those big large robo feet.
14:28 On the back, it doesn't seem like it's painted.
14:31 I'd have to go back and look at the cartoon again, and I think that in some of the cartoon episodes,
14:35 of course, paint would always be changing in those original, earlier Generation 1 cartoons.
14:39 I think in most of the episodes, though, he tends to have lighter pink on the back of his boots,
14:42 or the back of his robot feet.
14:44 For the articulation on Megatron here, now, it's going to be a little more limited,
14:48 but it goes sort of with the territory of a figure being a robotic body.
14:51 Head rotates all the way around.
14:53 It does move down, and it does move up.
14:55 Now, one thing I have done with this Megatron that I didn't do with the original Megatron
14:59 was I moved his head a little higher up.
15:02 You'll notice when you have this guy out of the packaging first that the head is sitting really low down.
15:06 If you bring it a little bit higher up, it does give you a little more range than what it would
15:10 if you had it pushed all the way down.
15:13 So you may want to just give a little bit of clearance.
15:15 It does result, though, in Megatron's head being a little on the more looser side,
15:18 but again, you can get a little bit more range that you wouldn't be able to get normally.
15:22 Again, you can move it up and down, and again, if you pushed it all the way down,
15:25 which I'm not going to do right now, it is going to have more of the chin closer to the top of his torso.
15:30 Speaking of his torso, though, the torso does swivel back and forth,
15:33 I mean, full rotation really in the waist, and then he has again that forward crunch
15:37 where you can move it further back-- further forward, I should say.
15:40 It doesn't move any further back, though, so I mean, really, that's the stock.
15:43 That's the default right there. It's only just moving it forward.
15:46 Arms rotate all the way around. You can also, as well, move them out at almost 90 degrees.
15:51 The figure does have a swivel in his hands-- or swivel in his forearms, I should say.
15:54 And also a bend that's not quite 90 degrees, but still pretty close.
15:58 Hands that I'm using right now will allow the hand to rotate all the way around.
16:01 You can also hinge those back and forth, as well.
16:04 And then when it comes to his legs, the legs do split.
16:06 Now, he has skirting on the sides, so you're only going to be able to split that far
16:10 when it comes to Meg's legs. Meg's legs.
16:12 You can bring those legs forward only that far. You can only bring them back only that far.
16:16 He does have only just a single hinge on his knee. No, really, rotation on the lower leg.
16:21 And then when it comes to his boots, for obvious reasons, because he has the side sculpting here,
16:26 you can bring them back and forth this way, but there isn't no real means to rotate this back and forth on the ankles.
16:31 So if you want to get a little more of a dynamic pose for Megatron,
16:34 you really can't turn the ankles as much as really what you would have liked.
16:37 Still, though, it's a nice-looking Megatron. I think I will do some customization if I can.
16:42 Maybe take myself a little bit of diluted rubbing alcohol, for example,
16:46 and see if I can maybe find a way to remove that pink that's on the side of his mouth.
16:50 Ideally, though, it's still suitable for if you want a figure displayed, for example, with the Energon Cube.
16:55 I like the idea of the Energon Cube. I don't know, though, if I like the idea of having that, though,
16:59 on the side of his mouth, so I'm going to see if I can probably take that off.
17:02 And one last look of the bad guys again, because we've been looking at a whole bunch of bad guys,
17:06 whether you like the Thundercats, you like the G.I. Joes, and now, of course, Transformers.
17:10 This might be also one of those cases, too.
17:12 Like, there's collectors that may not collect an entire line of something,
17:16 but they like, for example, all the '80s villains.
17:19 So, like, you might just be picking up Megatron, for example, to be displayed on the shelf
17:22 with, say, Cobra Commander from G.I. Joe or Cobra, and, say, Mumra, the Ever-Living from Thundercats.
17:27 Still, though, Megatron turned out to be pretty good.
17:29 Still enough compelling argument, I would say, for me to go back then and try to track down Optimus Prime.
17:34 At least then I could have the two displayed on the shelf.
17:37 Outside the leader of the Decepticons, I'm not sure how dedicated the person behind the camera is going to be
17:42 to collecting anything that's Transformers Ultimate related.
17:45 Now, I've been quite loyal to all the other things that Super 7's been doing,
17:48 with the Silverhawks, the Simpsons, G.I. Joe, Ren and Stimpy, and even Thundercats.
17:53 I mean, you can only go so far when it comes to a collection shelf.
17:56 With Transformers, they're a little bit different, because, of course, it cuts deep differently to collectors.
18:01 There's, of course, the fans out there that are loving the Generation 1 cartoon designs, like myself, for example.
18:05 So, like, I'll be more interested, say, for example, to get Megatron and Grimlock.
18:09 A Grimlock figure, by the way, was part of this wave.
18:11 I haven't yet picked up Grimlock, but I'm hoping to get him soon.
18:13 And for that reason, I probably would then still go back and pick up the original Optimus Prime.
18:17 But they have also referenced in there the original toys.
18:19 They've also referenced in there, also as well, media that's outside the realm of the original North American cartoon from the 80s.
18:25 Those aren't figures, necessarily, I could see myself really picking up,
18:28 because, again, you only have so much shelf space to work with.
18:31 Optimus Prime was one I was sort of on the fence about,
18:34 because while I did like, kind of like, the look of the character,
18:36 I wasn't really sure I liked the idea that the figure came in clue with, like, what, a surfboard? A basketball?
18:42 Could I ever see myself really displaying the leader of the Autobots with either one of those? Not likely.
18:46 Megatron, on the other hand, there was a lot of worthy candidates for things that the figure could be displayed with in his hands.
18:52 I've got right now, for final looks, the Energon Cube in his one hand.
18:55 Krimzeek is sitting, resting nicely on his shoulder.
18:58 And obviously, if I had the figure displayed with the Energon Cube partially drank,
19:02 then I'd have, also as well, the drank-look face that's going to have the trickling Energon down the corners of his mouth.
19:07 It's one thing I don't really like about the head sculpt.
19:09 I think it's a better of the three heads, at least, we get.
19:12 And even though I have no plans to ever really, no desired interest really, to display Megatron with the mind-controlling helmet,
19:18 I at least give the virtual heads up, hats off, to Super 7 for including accessories like that.
19:24 For me, at least, I'm going to see if I can take a little bit of diluted rubbing alcohol,
19:28 maybe not of a stronger strength, and see if I can find a way to take the little lines off the sides of his mouth.
19:33 Because I really actually like the more smiling look to Megatron than the more stoic look that he came originally packaged with.
19:39 Have you had the chance to get Megatron for yourself?
19:42 Let me know down below in the comment section.
19:43 And if you have, how do you have the figure displayed?
19:46 Let me know.
19:47 Also, as well, if you guys haven't had any luck to find Megatron in the wild,
19:51 I did actually grab this one over on Entertainment Earth.
19:53 He's there as well as the rest of the wave.
19:55 I don't know if the earliest wave, the wave that just preceded this one, actually still there as well.
20:00 But again, if you guys are interested in anything that's in stock,
20:02 using the link that's provided down below in the video description,
20:05 not only will take you directly to Meg's,
20:07 but also as well, that link will give you 10% on anything that you're adding that's in stock currently into your shopping cart.
20:13 So in other words, you want to buy Megatron for yourself,
20:15 or you want to buy something else using that link,
