It’s a bank holiday for many of us and the weather will be rather mixed over the 3 days. There will be some sunshine but also some heavy showers, especially on Saturday, but it should get drier as the weekend progresses

00:00 For many of us, it's a bank holiday weekend. I'm very confident it'll be warmer than the next bank holiday weekend.
00:06 I'm also very confident it isn't going to be the warmest August bank holiday you've ever experienced.
00:11 It's going to stay on the cool side and yes, there will be some showers to dodge,
00:15 especially so on Saturday when low pressure is the dominant feature.
00:20 Now, out west, there is an area of high pressure that's trying to move in,
00:25 but it gets pushed away by this set of weather fronts edging southwards as we head into Sunday.
00:30 Once they get out of the way, however, this ridge of high pressure does offer something a bit drier
00:36 and a bit brighter for many of us for Monday.
00:39 OK, let's rewind the clock and put on some details because there will be some sunshine every day this weekend,
00:45 but especially on Saturday, you are going to have to dodge some fairly heavy showers.
00:49 Quite a wet start in places, particularly in northern England, parts of North Wales and northwest Scotland.
00:54 Quite blustery here as well. Quite a breezy day generally in the west.
00:59 Some lighter winds elsewhere means the showers could be quite slow moving,
01:02 particularly over parts of Scotland and northeast England.
01:05 Some heavy, even thundery showers likely during Saturday, but it won't rain all day.
01:10 There'll be some brighter spells, particularly on some western coasts later on,
01:14 although, as I said, it will be quite blustery here.
01:16 And even when it's sunny, it isn't going to be particularly warm.
01:19 Temperatures generally a touch below average for the time of year.
01:22 Many of us struggling to get out of the high teens.
01:26 As we head into Sunday, while the low pressure is still nearby, but it is starting to pull away.
01:31 This next set of weather fronts are toppling in.
01:33 But in between, I suspect there'll be some fine weather to be had on Sunday.
01:37 So Sunday generally looking drier than Saturday for sure.
01:41 A weather front out west is likely to bring cloud and rain to parts of northern Ireland,
01:46 increasingly to western Scotland, maybe to Wales and southwest England later on.
01:51 For many central and eastern areas, yes, it'll be a case of bright spells and showers,
01:54 but not as many showers, I suspect, as Saturday.
01:58 Although, again, the possibility of one or two heavy ones for a good chunk of the central slice.
02:03 Most of Sunday will be dry.
02:05 Again, don't be expecting anything in terms of warmth.
02:09 Temperatures are really going to struggle.
02:10 If we see a bit of sunshine, we should creep into the 20s.
02:12 But most of us, again, only in the high teens.
02:15 What about Monday?
02:17 Well, this weather front will continue to edge across the country.
02:20 As we head into Monday, but kind of breaking up as it does so.
02:23 And there's that ridge of high pressure just toppling in behind.
02:26 So there's a decent chance that many western areas will be dry and bright on Monday
02:31 with some decent spells of sunshine.
02:33 Further east, fairly cloudy.
02:34 And I think here through the day, there is the likelihood of some showers,
02:38 but always pretty well scattered.
02:40 More showers coming back into northern Scotland at this stage too.
02:43 But for parts of southern Scotland, Wales, southwest England and northern Ireland,
02:48 with that little ridge of high pressure, the winds will be light.
02:50 And we should see, as I say, some sunny spells.
02:52 And temperatures just starting to creep up a little bit by Monday as well.
02:55 So more widely into the low 20s,
02:58 particularly if you see some sunshine across the southeast of England.
03:01 So as I said, not a particularly warm weekend,
03:03 but there will be some fine weather to be had,
03:05 particularly during the second half of the long weekend.
