A troubled teen with a criminal past died Tuesday after a crime spree that ended in a car crash, according to a Washington Post report.

In 2013, Anthony Stokes, 17, received a controversial heart transplant that was initially denied by doctors due to, "a history of non-compliance." Stokes' family said he was being discriminated against due to his criminal history and petitioned for the surgery which was later performed.

According to police, Stokes first stole a car from Perimeter Mall then drove to Roswell approximately 20 minutes away where he shot an elderly woman in a botched robbery attempt.

Stokes lost control of the stolen vehicle, struck a pedestrian and crashed into a pole.
