COLTON, CALIFORNIA — The parents of a 12-year-old boy from California are devastated at the tragic death of their only son, who was attacked by a bully during P.E. class.

KTLA reports that Ulysses Grant Elementary School sixth grader Dominick Gallegos was playing soccer Tuesday afternoon when he slipped and fell on the field.

While he was down, a boy known for being a school bully stomped on his chest twice, after which Gallegos lost consciousness. When the bully noticed Gallegos had stopped moving, he started shaking him, but took off when the bell rang to signal the end of the school day.

Other students saw Gallegos unconscious on the ground and ran for help. A teacher arrived and attempted to resuscitate the boy using CPR. He was rushed to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

The coroner's office will be performing an autopsy on the boy to determine what caused his death.

Despite the Gallegos family's claims, the school district has maintained that no evidence of trauma has been found so far, and that students were being supervised at the time of the incident, according to CBS.
